I've had a Fiskars for 6 years and if it's too hard to push then you are cutting too low. When at the correct height, it's no harder then walking (at least on flat ground, hills can require some effort because it is quite heavy). Set it higher and make an extra pass. The Fiskars is a beast to turn.
I run my Scotts with the blade barely, just BARELY, off of the bed knife, which makes a hug e difference in effort required, noise level and has a beatiful cut. I've been curious about the Fiskars. Some of their stuff is matchless (their post hole diggers for example) and some of their stuff, not so much. Thanks for posting!
Do you like the Fiskars grass catcher? I'm seeing the stand alone price of $87. Coupled with the Amazon price of $267 for the mower, we're talking about $350+!
I'm checking craigslist daily for an 18" Fiskers hehe. I want to add an electric motor like I saw on James Correia channel. I just wished Fiskars had a wider mower. Also curious about how close the blade gets to the bed knife and how it can be adjusted. thanks for sharing, good vid
Not sure what they have in plans, it seems like the same model and no changes year after year, but hey, if it's working great for them then I understand. As far as the blade to bed knife distance, this is one of the few reels that the blades don't come in contact with the reel. It's close but doesn't touch at all, or shouldn't. That's another plus to this reel as it stays sharp a little longer.
I have been trading back n forth btwn these two reel mowers also. Nice comparo. Your Scott's reel-blades is/are too close to bed knife. When that hard to push, and noisy, should back off a little. Had same issue w/ my Fiskars (one + reel blade(s) slightly proud of others). Adjusted Fiskars reel by progressively filing/sanding proud blade to the point a second blade slightly made contact (used a sharpie as I would sharpening any edge for indexing). Little more work sharpening the second reel blade and now they are nicely even. Scott's classic lighter = nicer. Fiskars Momentum weight & gear/chain a different kind of pleasure to use. Fiskars seems to better job along edges the way the wheels are inset/even with reel width, where-as Scott's wheels are outside the width of reel requiring wheels to run wide of cut path. Fiskars has cut me twice, to zero times with Scott's. I am keeping both at this point as I only have catcher for Scott's ATM. If I get catcher for Fiskars, may off one after trying the Fiskars w/ catcher. Have you tried modding the orange grass deflector (certain Fiskars like ones with rubber front wheels have adjustable grass deflector) for dropping grass cuttings out backside (possibly mount a rear catcher - for longer grass & also not having front overhanging catcher)?
ThePlanBPill - Thank you. I would say you cannot go wrong either way, but I prefer the fiskars. If you enjoy yard maintenance and a good workout you will not look back!
I owned a Scotts and I believe that it is designed for the reel to rub the bed knife. I could not cut well at all without the clattering reel touching. I tried and tried. I have the Fiskars now and it cuts very well and the reel does not touch the bed knife. It cuts with a whisper compared to the Scotts.
I waited the whole damn video to see the Scott's vs the wiskars and nothing...!!! You didn't do the most important comparison...you didn't cut grass...this sucked...!!!
tempmode37 - while I agree with the plastic gears vs metal chain I have heard the plastic gears are pretty robust. I'm not denying that the plastic will wear down faster in theory though. Good point!
Excellent review. Thank you for your in depth comments for each mower.
This is THE video I was looking for - Fiskar’s it is!
I, love,
the honesty!!
Thanks for your perspective! I was thinking about getting one to go green. Since I hate mowing the lawn, I guess I'll keep my Honda gas mower.
“This Fiskars is QUIET” **CLACK CLACK CLACK
Only a $50 difference on Amazon. One nice thing about the Fiscars is it goes up to a 4 inch cut height.

“Fiskars is a beast to turn” you say….
As in hard to make turns with or easy to make turns with?

Why can I not get a price for a new fiska push lawnmowers?
Which one needs blade sharpening more frequently?

Some people like to you use these manual reel mowers on newly planted grass to so so they can just pick it up from they have to turn.
What ?!?!
How much is a new fiska push lawnmowe
The Fiskars works better for edges. The reel goes past the wheels, with the Scott's, the reel is between the wheels.
Do a review of the Sun Joe product

Good review. Lots of info I didn't know. Looking at the new model Fiskars on amazon.
ThePlanBPill - Thank you. I would say you cannot go wrong either way, but I prefer the fiskars. If you enjoy yard maintenance and a good workout you will not look back!
i just bought a fiskar reel mower for 200 dollars bag not included from lowes
Sounds like the scotts bed knife is too tight. It might need a cutting clearance angle put back on the blade

22 mins later he never cuts anything
Hey man, I was driving a gas motor go cart when I was ten.

uuugh! A little too much info!
scott got plastic gears and will wear down the fiskers got metal chain

Have an older American reel and the plastic cog is 100% fine at 16 years old. So that is not an issue.
Carpman that's good to hear! Those gears seem robust enough to hold up!
Yes plastic gears hold up! I've got a 20 inch classic that's between 20-25 yrs old!
i got a fiskars and i thought it was broke cause it was so quiet. but nope. cuts fine.
