I assume you are always looking at this stuff on free time, you could have a newsletter and charge like $5 a person and just update those. Even like If I have sapphire preferred then I could set up alerts for that card specifically?

    I am not into the travel cards as we usually travel once a year (if that) and it is on a budget, so many of the perks that travel cards offer make no sense to us and I am no into paying for CC in the first place. We would have never purchased expensive air tickets or hotels in the first place so those redemption options are pretty much useless. I carry at this point 2 cards - Apple Card for %2 cash back for pretty much covers 99% of purchases with the exception to some sporadic Amazon purchases and 2nd card is Costco Citi Visa that gives us few other categories like, restaurants, gas/ev and travel which if you combine with Executive membership and use Costco portal you essentially get 5% cash back on travel, rental etc related purchases. Both cards offer no foreign fees too. Could you score better rewards, sure, but I dont want to hassle all year for what might turn into an additional $25-50 of cashback.

    Question for you: BF and I are splitting a lot of costs and we wan to have a credit card under my name that we pay off together as it will be a lot easier for budgeting. Main categories would be groceries, restaurants, gas, streaming, Amazon, household goods / furniture etc., your normal household expenses that people share.
    1. Which card would you recommend: credit score is 750+, I currently have the Discover It and Sapphire preferred. Thinking of getting AMEX Blue cash preferred.
    2. What is your experience with AMEX? I am concerned there may be lots of businesses like restaurants, stores and gas stations (that don't accept it due to high fees). Want to know what your experience with this is using your AMEX.

    • @ThePerfectElement555
      @ThePerfectElement555 Před 4 měsíci

      With that many nights, I would think about elite status as well as which chain has hotels in the places you'd want to go for leisure travel trips. The goal would likely be to earn status and tons of points for places you'd want to travel.
      With 60 nights in Hyatts in a year, you'd get Hyatt's top tier Globalist status which most consider the most valuable hotel status in the game. Plus they just added extra benefits for every 10 nights, so with that many nights you could get the Milestone perks at 70, 80, 90, etc. nights as well. The perk for 150 nights has the new uncapped free night certificate, plus you'd get a number of other free night certificates along the way. You could supplement that with the World of Hyatt card for 1 Cat 1-4 free night certificate per year plus another one if you put $15k in spend on it in a year, plus it could earn you even more elite nights (Though there are no milestone benefits beyond 150 nights).
      If Hilton sounds better, you could do the Surpass or Aspire to earn a lot of points and an uncapped free night certificate or so (with $15k spend on the Surpass, or included with Aspire). You would just earn the Gold or Diamond status through the credit card alone so all the nights you'd be staying there wouldn't be as valuable aside from the points you'd earn. Though I supposed you could earn Diamond status through your stays while only paying the $150 Surpass card if you didn't want a premium card
      If Marriott works well for you, you could make the case of getting the Amex Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant for the 85k free night and Platinum status, or the Chase Bonvoy Boundless for 35k free night for only $95, and using all these elite nights from work to help you get closer to lifetime status levels. The Bonvoy Boundless has that 5 50k free night certs sign up bonus going on now which is really good.

    Hi Daniel, i just downloaded your points transfer budget sheet (thank you so much for that!) i had a quick question about inputting values and was wondering which was more accurate. I'm looking at flights from sfo to hnl and on google flights it's $357. On chase portal it's $414 for the same flight. In your sheet in the cash section, which number would be correct to in put. 357 or 414?

    • @Daniel_Braun
      @Daniel_Braun  Před 3 měsíci +2

      Always the cheaper option because that’s the “true” market price to make the decision to redeem points or not. Sometimes the portals have inflated prices, so good job for spotting that.
      Thanks for downloading that sheet as well!

    • @moistyy933
      @moistyy933 Před 3 měsíci +1

      @@Daniel_Braun that makes sense. Thanks Daniel. I have the Sapphire Reserve and using the calculations, 1.5cpp is still the number to beat right? Even if standard is 1cpp and I find a flight that is worth 1.41cpp, since I get 1.5cpp conversion, it usually makes sense for me to redeem through portal?

    • @Daniel_Braun
      @Daniel_Braun  Před 3 měsíci +1

      Correct! 1.5 cpp is the number to beat with the CSR (assuming that the price in the portal is competitive with prices for the same travel elsewhere).

      Yeah its a bit tricky as they look for credit history to see if your eligible but since you have none they will be reluctant to issue you a card. I would start out on a "Discover It" card as it kinda half way from a debit card and credit card. You pay money into it as an advance and they they allow you to spend your own money and in return they give you credit. Once you get started and have a credit history the offers will start coming in form everywhere.
