PCUSA to Force LGBT Affirmation?

The Presbyterian Church USA, with 1.1+ million adherents in the United States, will hold a major denominational assembly in July 2024. This mainline denomination will consider proposals to change its book of order. If approved, “gender identity” and “sexual orientation” would be added to the list of “protected characteristics” which are required to be embraced by all elders and deacons.
Succinctly put, if this measure is passed, the convictions of those who disagree with same-sex sin practices that the denomination has voted to accept, will now be trampled. It will be impossible to serve as a deacon or elder while following the Bible teaching about sexual purity and sin. This is the premeditated removal of the conscience clause. Sadly, “conformity to worldly customs, converts the church to the world; it never converts the world to Christ. Familiarity with sin will inevitably cause it to appear less repulsive.”

I have been a Presbyterian for 70 yrs. I stood by and turned my head in 2011 and 2018, but in 2024, I've had enough. There are God fearing Presbyterian churches other than PCUSA, which I am in. You explained this well, and helped me see to make some changes.

The assembly amended the original motion in order to protect the freedom of conscience. This will allow a healthy balance to respect all spectrums of beliefs. PTL!

According to the literature what is Christ like is what's rejected by religious people for not following their religious laws. I find no fault with the LGBT whatsoever. What have they done? what say you?

@@ddrse There are many parts of the bible and to list them all here would be absurd but I'd like to leave you with Leviticus 18:22 -- "You shall not lie with a male as with a woman; it is an abomination." and Leviticus 20:13 -- "If a man lies with a male as with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination; they shall surely be put to death; their blood is upon them." I as a Christian will never argue with the bible as it is God's word. It is what we believe to be true... When you start interpreting the bible (or any other religious literature for that matter) for anything other than what it is saying... well you might as well just go do your own thing. To be Presbyterian means we hold the bible to be true but PCUSA is condoning something that is strictly prohibited in the bible all to be politically, correct? If this change is made then they are no longer a Presbyterian organization at the core and should reform to something else. Just my belief~ May God guide us through these times~ I will pray for their organization
