    The “your turn,my turn” plays of tatum and brown needs to change if they want to be successful in playoffs. Just look at the two teams playing in the finals right now especially denver, the dynamic between their stars is incredible. If one of them don’t want to take a backseat we might see an addition by subtraction kind of move next season.

    The problem with them is that Tatum and Brown don't play off each other. They are a good duo, but it is more like they operate separately but in the same team. They don't compliment each other like Jamal and Jokic, look how little they assist each other. Either they trade Brown for a point guard or find a connector for them as Golden State has with Draymond, who connects Steph and Klay. Finding that middleman is crucial, as both of them are average to below playmakers.

      Coaching is the main difference, not all - but most of the issues are in this.
      Just look at Spo and Malone - they are _years_ into their system(s). The players can help _each other_ get up to speed.
      Mozula is talented but in way over his head at times, and through no fault of his own. D loses consistency and iso goes up in a fundamentally less-reliable and less-flexible system.

    I think the offensive strategy is the main problem. The iso dependence makes their half court offense stagnant in the second half, especially. Brown puts the blinders on and can't even see a basic dump down pass when driving. The team's talent isn't maximized by how they play. They need an offensive-minded, experienced assistant coach

      @TomCruz54321 Před 11 měsíci +6

      Celtics have terrible offense. You can’t win consistently by taking tough shots. The Warriors used their amazing motion offense to get easy dunks, layups, lobs, tip ins. The copycats think it’s all about jacking up contested threes.

      @slightexag Před 11 měsíci

      @@TomCruz54321 i don't think their offense is terrible; it's just not flexible enough to win consistently in the playoffs. The talent to score is mostly there, but the sets they run just don't make sense for a team trying to compete for a championship. A 4th quarter Tatum isolation or a contested 3 from him inspires no confidence at all. Brown needs to become a better off ball player if they do decide to keep him. The two of them remind me of the CP3-Harden Rockets where they didn't really perform that well together; I think this team's potential might be capped by having the two of them together rather than a 2nd start that can initiate an offense with actual good passing. I've heard so much about Tatum becoming a better distributor, but that is literally just homer bullshit. Tatum is not a good passer or playmaker- he just has the ball so much he can't help but get assists

    I feel like the Celtics biggest issue is overconfidence. They approach every game like it's just another game and they can win at anytime. Atlanta should have been a gentleman's sweep. Philly shouldn't have went 7 but you can't account for two buzzer beaters by James Harden. The Heat always plays them close but there was no excuse to be down 3 - 0 especially when you look at how they went down 3 - 0. I guess you could say they saved face by coming back and tying it and Celtics fans can hide behind the Tatum was injured excuse but they never should have went 7 with Miami.

      the issue here is Bostons core went to the ECF their first year together and we're 1 win away from the finals. This team has looked ready to break through the glass ceiling for years and just haven't. You could make a lot of reasons for it but really, they just come up small at the worst times. Tatum has been regarded as a top 10 player for 2 years but when it's time to show it he simply doesn't. Their stars don't perform when they need to perform and I don't see that changing.

Team doesn't have any mental fortitude when it comes to getting themselves over the hump. We've been saying that they can do it if they just get a little more time. But the problem is once Tatum and Brown have to be paid Max contracts. They effectively will not have any depth whatsoever. Once that happens, there's a very real chance of the window is closed because these two have been together for more than six seasons now, and they've yet to be able to make themselves work together as a duo.

    Tbh the Lillard- Brown trade is very good for both teams, Lillard is a better player right now but Brown has better upside over time. Lillard solves the need of a floor general for Celtics and only Luka, Embiid, Steph and Jokic were better/equal offensive players compared to him. Tatum and Brown don't have very good synergy and neither to Anfernee and Lillard. Everyone acts like this extremely talented team with loads of all defensive and all NBA players somehow needs an all star point guard to be successful which should be embarrassing for the Celtics. This team is overflowing with talent.
    All they need is to spend this off season turning Brown into more of an off ball threat and a coach who implements more motion and ball movement into their sets and for the team to actually buy in and get out of their heads.

    I noticed for years now, whenever Boston is in a cold streak, nobody rallies them back up (and apparently, Horford can't provide that since I just saw him sulking at the bench when they were against Miami).
    I think the missing piece is someone who will take the lead / lead by example, when the going gets tough; they needed that veteran leadership who will instill the right mentality in the game, especially in crunch time. We rely too much on 3 point shooting, sometimes our games are dictated by how well we shoot the 3 that game which is not good at all. Plus Tatum is still too inconsistent to make the jump to MVP, Brown is still our most consistent player night in and night out but he needs to tighten his ball handling so he can stop committing unforced turnovers.
    It seems also we play better when our backs are against the wall like being on the verge of elimination. We get complacent way too quick during most games which is why we blow leads. Joe needs to improve on his rotations, calling timeouts during the right moments and incorporating more drive sets to balance out the 3 point shooting.

    2. They need to coach that make adjustments during the game
    3. The players need to improve their basketball IQs
    4. They need better bigs that are not afraid to shoot in the paint. (ie. Al Horford passing the bal, in the paint, while being defended by smaller defenders is frustrating)

    The Celtics' Weakness is at the 4 and 5. Al Horford has had a Great Career, but he's past his peak. Robbie Williams is their best player for Defense and Rebounding (Smart is the best at Defending the 1-2), but he is Weak on Offense, especially in the Playoffs. Playing Tatum at the 4 is not a good option agains the bigger teams like Milwaukee and Denver. Good Luck to the Celtics at Drafting/Developing/Trading for a Player like DeAndre Ayton, Xavier Tillman or a young Udonis Haslem.

    Next biggest issue for the "almost but not quite" has been injuries. Their healthiest run got them to the finals. Heck one of those conference finals they had 4-5 key players injured and got 1 game away from the finals. Boston needs a really good PG, not Marcus Smart. Unless he’s coming off the bench for that position, you’re never going to win with him starting. I know he is a great player, but in the biggest moments of the Celtics playoff games in the past half decade or more, he always seems to do something wrong. Especially when he decides to jack up a three. I call him Marcus Not So Smart because he’s just not that guy in the clutch. If he was a bench player though, he’d be perfect. I don’t think they could get someone like Dame unless you trade Brown, which might actually not be a bad idea, but you would want to pair Dame up with Tatum and Brown instead of just one of them. Although he’s not much of a facilitator and lacks the defense of Smart and Brogdon. Lol I’m glad I’m not the GM for this team, there is a lot of stuff they need to fix.

    I'm a huge Celtics fan, always have been, and I've been a staunch defender of Jaylen Brown. Last season during the trade rumors, I actually said I'd prefer they traded Tatum instead. But after this past playoff run, I've definitely soured on Brown, and the team as a whole. I love all our guys, but they just don't click as a team. They are all great individual talents, but they dont compliment each other the way that they should. When they get hot, yeah it's like NBA Jam (see also: Game 7 vs the Sixers) But more often than not, Theres no ball movement, there is no chemistry. The past decade they've assembled the greatest collection of individual talents in league history perhaps, and on paper they should have been a Dynasty. Unfortunately things just didnt click. I'm not sure what the solution is, but they seem to need more floor guidance, more playmaking on the court and from the bench, as most of the time they give off pickup game vibes. I'd bring in another big man and most importantly, a playmaker like Chris Paul or Bradley Beal before committing their future to Jaylen Brown and co.

Maybe pair him with Smart and whatever picks they can trade for a really good ball handler if one's available.

Bringing a guard that can dish well can really set both of them up, instead of relying on iso so much. Then there's the center position. They gotta make strides with Timelord. Either Tatum or Mazulla need to work on being more of an alpha in the locker room and on the bench when the team mentality is off during a game. There needs to be more accountability. From a game perspective, we need to be a little less reliant on 3s and lean more on ball movement to create better high percentage shot opportunities. We also need to work on our rebounding because I'm sick of seeing teams get 10+ offensive rebounds against us. Other than that Jalen Brown needs to work on his ball handling during the off-season. Other than that I think we're good. I don't think we need any roster changes this time, our defense is there, and our team chemistry seems to be there.

      You're not wrong but ball handling always gets exposed on teams that don't pass the ball. When there are 5 guys out there moving and cutting why would you ever need to dribble from A-B in the half court to get to your spot, just pass it up, move to your open spot and you'll get the ball back. It's not just them or Brown it happens all the time in games when a guy gets tunnel vision and just dribbles forward into someone's chest.

Mazzulla is trying to model this team to warriors which has a different skillset in curry and Thompson and obviously didn't work this season.
