Just like the 1999 Spurs, the 2023 Nuggets might end up kickstarting a small-market dynastic run centered around a skilled, humble, quiet, and aloof big man.
The difference being there was no lockout in 2023 so the ESPNs of the world can't spend years gaslighting the entire basketball world that the Nuggets' first title doesn't count and has an "asterisk" on it. (Jim Rome, I'm looking directly at you.)
Jokic makes Duncan look like a scrub. Don't ever compare one of the greatest players ever to the most overrated player of all time.
Robinson = Jokic
Duncan = Braun
@@stats2002TheSportsEncyclopediaLmao, statistically the greatest defensive big man of all time, 5 time champion, 3 time finals MVP, 2 time MVP, something like almost 30 combined all-nba offensive and defensive teams, and the 2003 finals run being one of the greatest individual runs of all time. And the spurs won 50 games every year for 20 years outside of the 2 lockout seasons.🤡
I love Jokić, but this is a total clown post. You can make an argument that Duncan is the 2nd greatest player of all time.
@@stats2002TheSportsEncyclopedia , If anything Tim Duncan is underrated
It's pretty ironic about the incredible "Cinderella" run by the 1999 Knicks and the 2023 Heat is that both they had to face each other in the Playoffs but of course the major difference is that this year's Heat did it in an 82-game season while the Knicks did it in a lockout-shortened season.
The biggest irony about the Knicks' cinderella run is that while Jim Rome and his colleagues gleefully put an asterisk on the Spurs' title, NONE of them did the same with the Knicks's conference title.
Knicks were also very injured
That's not ironic. it's just a coincidence that those 2 teams faced each other in both playoffs
@@GetBenched2010 😊😊
@@GetBenched2010 totally, if it wasn't for the short season 99 Knicks would not had been a 8th seed team.
If Latrell Sprewell played in todays NBA he would’ve only gotten a 40 game suspension instead of missing an entire season
And that would be overboard for choking that Carlesimo who was egg him on.
he mightve gotten 0 games look at what draymond did in practice and he wasn't suspended lmao
@@GunnShotVisuals they did suspend Sprewell and he missed a whole year lol
@@tj5180 o yea I know I’m saying if that happened today lol
If Ja only gets suspended for 25 games after flashing a "toy" gun (which is far more image-shattering for the NBA) then I don't think Sprewell will get one for an internal team interaction. Lol
The 1999 Knicks and 2023 Heat have something in common. They had great role players. A solid scorer in Latrell Spreewell, A defensive minded big man in Camby, and a good supporting cast.
And of course Butler and Adebayo on the Heat.
The silly thing is that the Ewing theory applies with the Knicks currently except this time Thibs was too stubborn to realize that. Switch out Julius Randle with Obi Toppin and the Knicks had way more ball movement.
Comparing Julius Randle to Patrick Ewing...I'm wondering how many of you actually watched Pat Ewing play basketball
All facts
It can be the sane with Ja. How the grizzlies offensive were more balanced and had a great record without him for a bit. Or with even other sports like 49ers losing Jimmy and Brock has a great record and team vibed with him more
@@donaltc lol totally missing the point. JR was the top scorer of the team for the regular season ever since he got to NY. We are comparing the team dynamics as a whole here.
@@willn8664 nah now you're dodging the analogy you made. You said Randle's situation mirrors the "Ewing effect" and in no way is that true. Randle clearly has a negative net value on his team's playoff performance when he's given starter level minutes and the ball . Ewing was the reason they were there
FINALLY there is a video comparing the two best 8 seeds in NBA history.
In my honest opinion the 2022-23 Heat are the better 8 seed because they accomplished what they did with a full schedule and extra play-in games along the way.
Lol nah the knicks are the better team because they aren’t a true 8th seed
@@t-god2439Heat were literally the 1 seed the year before so they weren’t a true 8 seed either
They will be the 7th seed hadn't they lost to the Hawks, so yeah they aren't a true 8th seed
I'm agreeing with you because the 99 Heat choked. I still can't believe that they lost to the Knicks. IMO, that and the Sonics losing to the Nuggets are the 2 biggest choke jobs in my 30 years of watching NBA ball.
@@JahNuhThunDeeTheOneAndOnly regardless of the seed if you look at the players on the team. The 99 knicks are better and would probably beat this heat team in a series
The 1999 and 2023 have a lot in common as both the spurs and nuggets are former ABA teams winning their first championship against an 8th seeded team that associates Pat Riley as a former Knicks coach and currently works for the Miami Heat.
Wasn’t pat with Miami in 1999
It's such a shame that the New York Knicks are still out of the NBA Finals in the 2020s.
Patrick Ewing's retirement was the beginning of a dark age for the Knicks.
It’s a shame New York will never be the same the Ewing curse lives on
Ewing didn't retire from the Knicks though.
No, the dark age started before that, when Dolan bought the franchise. Ewing didn't retire in NY
@@Bronn92I thought Dolan inherited the team because his dad died in 99.
Nah pat Riley leaving is what hurt the Knicks. The Knicks lost their identity once he left & Miami found there's when he came.
As a pacers fan i hesitated to watch this video, that loss hurt! Sure we didn't have an all nba player but we did push Jordan to 7 games (and even up 15 in game 7) the year before. This was a deep pacers team
yeah i don't know why he is talking down the pacers as good competition for the knicks that year, i remember watching that series... it was a very tough match up
Yeah yall did. Reggie Miller was 3x All NBA.
Pacers where similar to the Knicks. But even if the Pacers reach the finals, Rik Smits was no matchup for Duncan/Robinson
Pacers were a legitimately good team, previous year took the Bulls to 7 and made the finals the next.
Could Indiana have been more competitive vs San Antonio if they got there?
you forgot to mention the most vital factor of both series
NYK played on 2-3-2,
Miami played on 2-2-1-1-1 format
How relevant is that here?
@@fortynights1513 2-3-2 format maybe helped Heat pushed to 6 game series.
2023 Heat is much more difficult. They have to play play in games, face top 2 of the conference and in the top 1 in the west in the finals. Kudos for them.
Because their culture are good and strong plus having 2 HOFers inside the organization namely Pat and Erik.
I was 9 when the Knicks did it. I’m glad I was able to witness both 8th seeds reach the finals. Who knows if it will happen again
They both lost in five games to superior teams though and no one remembers the losers.
Not to mention the Knicks never got back again
At least the 99 Knicks aren’t alone now
Yeah in 24 years from now who knows?
Yeah uh no disrespect but this is a highly inaccurate take about Patrick Ewing. Patrick Ewing made the team undeniably*better* in those playoffs. You got a fuzzy memory; I was there and saw the whole thing. His slow pace was *why* they beat the Heat (pace always slows down in the playoffs because teams are leaning on their defense more). Not only that, he's the reason the Hawks were swept, as he absolutely stepped on their neck in the closeout game. He played two games in the ECF against the Pacers and in the game they won he played 40 minutes, pulled down boards and was perfect from the free throw line. THAT next to Marcus Camby? would have been the recipe to possibly beat the Spurs. Not saying they would have, but they would have been much more competitive in that series if they had him available. Really looking forward to the revisionist history about Pat going away.
I still can't believe that the 99 Heat team lost to the Knicks. That was a choke job that still has me shaking my head.
Knicks were always better than the heat , 97 was pure robbery
It all started 1997 when the nba robbed the Knicks with all the suspensions in the Heat series. So the Knicks had a little more extra against the Heat the next years 1998, 1999 and 2000
Yeah cause pat Riley was on the other side.
@@ImadogGarcia Heat sucked in 2002 to
actually i dont think your a real heat fan!! The Knicks whooped the Heats ass 3 out 4 playoff series back then from 97 to 2000 and it should have been a sweep of all 4 years if david Stern didnt fuck the Knicks team over in 1997 and hand out the suspensions the way he did!!
I was a huuuuge Knicks fan (tbs, a diehard Sprewell fan who converted when he was traded) at the time and at no point did I ever expect them to win it all. I was shocked and awed when they took down Indiana.
Knicks fan from Greece here. Nice video. I was at my graduation year in highschool back then and I remember this run like yesterday. I agree with most of your points, but i have to say that while the team was able to reach the finals without Ewing, we really missed him at the finals. Ewing was able to challenge Robinson and help our guards, especially with an injured Johnson. Nevermind, it was a great run, which gave me chills. I wanted the Heat to win it all this year, but they fell short. This year's series between Knicks and Heat were competitive, but they couldn't reach the passion and physicality of the old series. Still they were fun to watch
Andy secretly plotting to send the Heat into a never-ending spiral of mediocrity just like his post-1999 Knicks
The thing is Knicks were good again in the 2010 but injuries happen they had a good year this year tho
I do admit 2015 to 2019 sucked and kp injury in 2018 didn’t help
Let’s not forget the giant elephant in the room in ‘99 that the GOAT had retired and the Bulls literally blew up a 3-peat team that ended up going from champs to winning the draft lottery(immortalized by Jabba The Jerry’s reaction 😂).
Yep the East sure was wide open vs all the talk that it was inevitable that one of the Top 3 teams this year(Bucks, Celtics and Sixers) were going to represent in The Finals.
Hey Andy, I don’t want to sound like a homer about my Nuggets and maybe there isn’t REALLY a lot of comparisons, but can you compare the Spurs to the Nuggets from those same runs? I think that would be pretty interesting too
One big difference (partly due to era):
Duncan and Robinson on the Spurs were the two best players, both considered “bigs”.
Whereas Jokic obviously is such a player, but I don’t believe Jamal Murray is considered one.
Nowadays I’m not aware of too many teams with two bigs as the two best players on their team.
I was hoping a video like this would come up. Those Cinderella runs were insane
The 1999 Knicks did it against a league that wasn’t truly ready leading to players being generally out of shape but the heat did this while every team played 82 games and against much harder competition.
The lockout screwed up seed rankings for sure
Not to mention the playoffs format being less games also
I hate that they both bring this up in the narrative because they are not even close
Miami has better playoff run than them lol
Its not even close
Shut up...Knicks way more impressive
@@jimmyjay689 found the old head New Yorker
@@jimmyjay689 explain then? It's not fair to tell people to shut up without backing it up dude.
Harder competition 😅😅 ? Then defense was tougher.
The good old days at 4:13 when the score used to be in the mid 70s with a minute left. Nowadays teams scoring in the mid 70s by halftime is just another normal game😂
That Knicks team was stacked. They just had a mediocre coach in Jeff Van Gundy. Phil Jackson or Pat Riley would have taken that team to a title
Ironically Phil Jackson was planned to be the next coach for the Knicks after the 99 season but after that playoff run the discussion was over which lead to Jackson ending up in LA
Well Jeff van is way better than Thibbs, JVG done a lot of adjustment every team they played in the series while Thibbs had only game plan regardless whos the opposing team
They almost got Phil
@@ogolosric2956the funny thing is Thibodeau was Van Gundy's assistant during the Knicks' 1999 playoff run.
I knew a video like this was going to come out
Thx for the fond memories. Even though it broke my heart when Oakley was traded to Toronto for Camby, it turned out to be the right move for the Knicks.
That Allan Houston jumpshot was ow so sweet.
So many great Allan Houston clips in the video. My favorite player!
great pick on this video bro, big propz
Oh yeah legendary runs!!! Let’s gooo!!
I love how you break this shit down bro I can smoke a blunt and watch your videos and enjoy my day. Thank you.
Allen Houston was a killer low ki
Miami ran that gauntlet and just had nothing left is all.
NHL and NBA had similar scripts this season, both finals featured teams from 1st and 8th seed, both 8th were from Florida who took down Boston teams, and on west both teams winning thier first championships and being outside California and Texas (i know i hockey thats not so impressive)
The 1999 Knicks run was far more impresiive because they went through teams with better combined record than what the Heat just went through last season.
I was like so surreal on both these teams had a Cinderella story also
And yeah I don’t remember too much for the 99 knicks but yeah they definitely made big time history at the time , truly lots of similarities with them
Hey @andyhoops make a video on what you think Zions future is gonna be after all of this drama. Maybe you could compare the first couple years of his career to other players who struggled with injury. I don’t know. Always appreciate your content!
Pretty interesting video! It didn't click with me before now how similar these runs were. Shame on me. 😆
correction, miami was actually a 7th seed when the season ended, the fact they failed down to 8th after the final game of the season is part of their playoff journey
7th seed.... getting pretty tired of this misnomer
6 to 10 don't have a proper seeding until after play-in. Welcome to the new NBA. It's only fair for the Heat to be called an 8th seed since they faced the 1st seed in the first round.
@@s_ame1135 Thank you
There are a 8 seed bro
@@s_ame1135 no... they had the 7th best record and tie breakers... that's their REAL seed... you don't get extra credit for a bigger come up FOR FAILING MORE... this is backwards reward logic

Dope vid
The big difference is the 1999 Knicks were The Ewing Effect at its very best. The 2023 Heat were carried by one guy and a bunch of undrafted workmen.
Adebayo?
Besides Adebayo, Herro, and a couple aging players like Kyle Lowry, Kevin Love, Cody Zeller and of course Udonis Haslem.
That wasn’t close to a carry job. Butler wasn’t even that good in the 2nd round or last 3 games in ecf. Bam and Lowry, gab and Martin all stepped up
2022-23 are the better 8 seed no doubt 🔥🔥🔥
Both didn’t win the end and both were dispatched in five games so it’s debatable
Still waiting for the pre-LeBron Cavs, the new CBA and what's next for the teams that got eliminated from the 2023 Playoffs videos.
The 1999 knicks are the real 8th seed
andy hoops 🔥
“He would take like 20 secs to do a post move” 😂
Knickerbockers💯🧡💙
Damn how i loved this team..
Sprewell was truly a special talent
IMO, I Just Can't Compare A Team That Played A 50 Game Season To A Team That Played 82 Game In A Season. But That's Just My Opinion, But If I Had To Choose 1 I'd Say The Miami Heat & That's Because They Played 82 (Toxic Injured) Regular Season Game's & Who They Beat In The Playoffs To Get To The NBA Finals Cements It For The HEAT 🔥
I called this series pretty much the Knicks and spurs in 99 nuggets we’re gonna stomp them like the spurs did
Sorry Knicks were a lot worse than the heat in 2023. A lot of people mention the lockout that’s why NYK were an 8 seed. They finished as the 7 seed the year before and beat the heat too!
The prior season in 1998 Ewing was out for the majority of the regular season due to broken right wrist cause by hard foul by Andrew Lang.
Hi Andy Hoops You Should Do A How Good Was Evan Turner of you still haven't made a video about him.
Marcus Camby had his best playoff run in 99..
History repeats itself, does it?
Andyhoops forgot that the Pacers' only scoring big was the Dunking Dutchman. The Pacers were also the epitome of a jump shooting team of that era.
That 99 knicks wasnt the typical 8th seed team to be honest...they were just starting to catch fire when playoffs started...not to mention it was a 50-game lockout season
And far more tougher playoffs because there's no play in back then. With the play in tournament in place since 2021, you don't see the actual 7th and 8th seed get the last two seeds but more often than not either the 9th or 10th place gets it instead.
Aw as a kid in NYC in the 1990s, slow-ass Ewing was still my favorite. My dad couldn't stand him though.
Actually the only time as a Chicago Bulls fan i cheered for the Knicks 💯😂
Probably already mentioned, but sharing this anyway.
Both 8-seed teams (1999 Knicks and 2023 Heat) were beaten in five (5) games in the NBA Finals.
Both 8-seed teams were beaten by former 1976 ABA transferees.
Both 8-seed teams are connected to Pat Riley, then (NY) and current (MIA).
Both 8-seed teams were intense rivals, faced each other in four (4) consecutive Playoff faceoffs (1997-2000) that all went to the distance.
In 1999, the first ABA transferee to reach the NBA Finals are the San Antonio Spurs, clinching its first NBA Title.
In 2023, the fourth and last ABA transferee to reach the NBA Finals are the Denver Nuggets, clinching its first.
Both ex-ABA teams spoiled respective opponents’ Cinderella run.
I think the heat could have used Victor to guard Jamal and a healthy Herro in the lineup against Denver. Who had no players on injury reserved
I thought I heard Chris Dudley weeps when Andy said the Knicks didn’t have size… 🤷🏻
Andy hoops buddy .
Nba CZcams goat status buddy
The next video, do "10 teams that never won an NBA championship".
The Knicks anyday
1999 knicks not really an 8th seed, if not lockout season they might be too 4 seed ceiling
The 2023 Heat are definitely the better 8th seed. Really shouldn't be a question, the Eastern Conference in 1999 was the weaker conference at the time (and would be for the next 20 years) facing good but not special Heat + Pacers teams, while the Heat in 2023 faced off against both a Bucks and Celtics team breaking NBA/franchise records.
What Giannis-Jrue-Lopez and Tatum-Brown are doing now is soooo much better than what Mourning-Hardaway and Reggie-Rose-Smits were doing.
Sorry to ruin the oldheads' day for saying that but it's the blunt truth
In paper the Knicks had better offensive options then the heat had. They had Allan Houston, Johnson and Ewing, Childs, starks and sprewell. Heat did beat better comp to get to the finals
Hardaway was horrible vs the Knicks. Dude averaged 9 points per game on 28% shooting and the dude was their best player
Not to mention, the Knicks had an all-time superstar in Ewing. The Heat had Jimmy who's not even an all-star this year and still made it to the Finals.
Knicks run actually impressive
Heat had made more difficult run in the playoffs compared to the 1999 Knicks, beating all the top teams with players that has personal achievement like the Bucks and the Celtics but the Heat just outmatched them. The Heat also went more difficut situation in the Finals whereas Jimmy can't play like he was becz of ankle injury same with Bam who had ailing shoulder injury the rest of the series. Caleb also just recovered from sickness and Gabe whos also playing with his injury but despite all these the Heat went out to play that shown more competetive than the Lakers.
If you're going to bring up injuries for Butler you need to bring that up for everyone else they faced. Giannis getting hurt made a difference, as did Randle. Same thing goes for 99 the whole season had guys getting hurt and not playing up to par which greatly influenced seeding.
@@CrazyxEnigma True but nobody knows about the Heat players being hurt besides jimmy like even I did not know bam was playing with an injury
caleb martin did get better to be fair and played better
Yup also the 1999 season saw one of the slowest pace in NBA history due to defenses ruled the game. In fact this was the last season where hand checking is allowed anywhere in the court until rules change prior to 2000 season that disallowed hand checking in back court.
Miami was 2 playable bigs away from winning why did Pat choose Cody Zeller out of all people😂
Cause he slept through the trade deadline.
TBH Cody played decent in the playoffs series to give Bam a rester, it's just Jokic is a beast and only Bam has faster legs to catch up even it's not enough at least not worst
If AD can't do anything to Jokic, I don't think any other bigman can. Zeller and Love was perfect for the Heat, just not enough against absolutely the worst matchup they can face out of the West. Lol
Jimmy after the first series cooled down. If jimmy played like he did in the first round it would’ve been interesting
Jimmy got injured in game 1 of 2nd round. Before that, he was still playing aggressively vs the Knicks. He probably would be playing better if not for what happened. Even vs the Celtics, he was obviously slower. I can only imagine the what ifs on the Heat right now.
@@s_ame1135tbh I believe that honestly Jimmy was a baller against bucks especially superior defense. I do think his injuries affect his play for sure.
I really really really hope the Blazers go into a rebuild around Scoot/Sharpe and trade the pieces Miami needs to win next year. It's crazy how close Jimmy came with so little superstar caliber pieces.
Facts Jimmy is him , dame is overrated asab and had way more help
Lmao who will Miami give? Blazers can get potentially get zion or Brandon Ingram
@@ry_an. Zion is not worth Lillard. He's a cross between Greg Oden and Ben Simmons. He's a huge risk to whatever team the Pelicans unload him on and I don't have confidence well ever see him reach his potential.
There's a lot of great trade packages the Blazers could get and all of them look way better for the rebuild than contention.
@@andresdelportillo9917 I do agree Jimmy is the man but I don't think Lillard is overrated. Jimmy is my favorite player and he deserves a beret team. Lillard could easily be Miami's #2 and would get them much closer.
If we're talking purely salary cap, Lillard & Nurkic are nearly the same contract price as Adebayo and Lowry. I don't think that trade should be made, but I could see Lillard & Nurkic for Lowry, Herro, and a few draft picks. But I'm not a GM so maybe Miami can find better elsewhere 🤷♂️

People forget that the Knicks had to win 6 out of their last 8 games to even make the playoffs.
Yup they're at 21-21 before that situation.

99 NYK are the definition of grit! And also a big LJ fan thats why im so hyped then
2022-23 Lit Sisters mobsonics got trounced in the State Finals by a bigger and much better Texas foundation of hope, and had the big guys at the TXFH got more talent then the Lit Sisters could muster on, but in the end none of em on a small Lit Sisters team couldn't stop Glyndon Jermichael Warren real_notoriousakagdubb in the Finals?
1999 Knicks >> 2022 Heat
I honestly believe the heat could've won the chip. They lost because of their offense and jimmy playing horrible.
Did you know Jimmy didn't have a single 30 point for over a month/9 straight games?! his last 30-point game was the first in the East finals.
Jimmy got injured in the 2nd round. After that, he's playing conservatively. I guess, his sprained ankle never fully healed.
@@s_ame1135 He also hurt it again in the C series also ankle injuries don't recover in days in the regular season thats a 3 weeks to a month break
nah nuggets were just better

Heat might want to stay away from the 8th seed next year you don’t know who you will meet in the play in next year and they need height not another point guard
Heat had a harder run… once we trade Herro, Strus & Gabe Vincent for Lillard and then sign Dwight Howard the Miami Heat are your 2024 nba champions
It doesn’t compare!!! One was in a full season and the other wasn’t!! One was severely injured and still managed to get there with undrafted players!!! And Miami almost swept a 2 seed!!
alright i love miami and they had an incredible run but youre stretching a bit... ewing suffered a big injury and was arguably the teams best player who was also most experienced, and while miami almost swept boston, they almost got reverse swept as well

I'm taking the 2023 Heat simply because the teams they had to take down just to reach the Finals were pretty tough even though the Bucks didn't had Giannis for half the series but they were expected to win that series with or without him just like how they got past the Hawks in the 2021 Eastern Conference Finals without Giannis for the last 2 games of that series.
The Heat, just like Andy's mentioned, the Knicks had more easier run becz of the lockdown which has lesser game and most of the players are out of shape. The Knicks only had really tough opponent which is the Heat but the rest none of these team had any player that's in the best 1st and 2nd team that year unlike the 2023 Heat, the Bucks and Celtics had most players that's in defensive, 1st and 2nd team.
Tha real number 8 seed which was 99 knicks
1999 Knicks.
The video failed to mention that this was the last season where hand checking anywhere in the court is allowed. Defenses ruled the league during that time as well. The pace of the game was also one the slowest ever in NBA history. The scoring champion averaged on 26.8 ppg, the lowest ever in modern NBA history. The Knicks are basically not in themselves throughout the lockout shortened season too if you ignore injury issues.
If the knicks would of had
Ewing we would of won
So Lakers about to 3peat now lol
Noone thought the Knicks would win. Stop being delusional. All those 90's Knicks teams sucked even pat teams, and I was huge grandmama fan (UNLV days). Media told you those teams rocked, simply not true.
Dude,,nobody thought the knicks were going win in 99,,the spurs had Duncan and Robinson
All we had to go against that was a super skinny and foul prone marcus camby and the to short to match up Kurt Thomas,,,best case scenario was that we could get to 6 games
The Knicks achieved the best they could with a five game series
You forgot to mention Chris Dudley.
THIS IS AN OBSERVATION.
There is no 8th seeded team went to the NBA finals yet.
Why?
The 1999 Knicks as real playoffs contenders based on their previous seasons, can still climb up in the regular season standings if they played full 82 games.
While the 2023 Heat had the regular season record as the 7th seed. We're talking about the regular season standings, so the Hawks were the 8th seeded team but because play-in happened, and Miami lost, Heat battled against Bucks as the 8th seed.
when you put it in a PURE regular season basis, Knicks could've been a higher seed if there was no lockout and the Heat is actually a 7th seeded team.
But of course, it is what it is. My comment cannot change what happened. Still, these 8th-seeded teams are both 1-4 against a powerhouse team and both lost 😂
Play in tournament totally messed it up the real playoff seedings to be honest with you.
@@jordansoviet23 i kinda agree with you on that
This 8th seed Miami Heat would not survive against that 1999 Spurs. The Heat would have been way overmatched than the Knicks did
Don't act like the 99 Knivks will survive the 23 Nuggets too lol. It's not a question if they're going to wins the Finals or not. It's about who had the better run to the Finals between the two and the Heat did.
10:23 and lakers with shaq and kobe and two other all stars van exel and eddie jones . plus robert horry and derek fisher . team was stacked but kobe was still 20 so .

The Lakers traded Eddie Jones to the Hornets for Glen Rice and also they let go of Van Exel during the lockout. Van Exel signed with the Nuggets before the start of 1999 season.
nobody thought the knicks were winning the title.
