  • Tesla Lay-Offs Spark Outrage, "Insensitive" Termination Emails Go Viral | Vantage with Palki Sharma
Automaker Tesla has been laying off 10% of its global workforce since mid-April. The company is witnessing its worst performance in years. The layoffs were expected, but how they are being conducted is unusual. Now, Tesla's "insensitive" termination emails have gone viral. Tesla is sparking outrage over impersonal layoff notices. Former employees are taking to social media and talking about "brutal" termination. But this is not just about Tesla. Mass layoffs have become the new normal. In 2024 so far, more than 600,000 employees have been fired globally. Many workers are being laid off online via emails, phone calls and zoom calls. Companies claim online methods are efficient during layoffs. But firing people over emails can be unnecessary and cruel. So how can companies fire people in a more humane way. And should they? Palki Sharma tells you.

This is why employees shouldn't fall for BS and work extra hours for their companies or feel guilty for taking sick leaves and so on. It's a company. You are an employee. You owe them nothing but the required hours, not a single second additional. And you don't owe them time away from your family, from your marriage, from your children, not even from your hobbies. Do your work, and get the hell out. Because when they don't need you, they won't even bother to look at your face to tell you you are being fired. Employees need to stop assigning nobility to slogging for a company whose CEO does not even know you, and you need to see it for what it actually is: A company and a job. That's all it is. It is not your life's purpose and they are not worth sacrificing your happiness over.

When individuals continue to run their campaign of "always, it is the organization's fault " it is false and misguided.
I do believe this could have been handled differently, but each entrepreneur is different, and it does not mean all organization's are always at fault.
Furthermore, and exactly validating my point, is your comment "maybe I am not working in corporate"-- this is inability to think critically.

This is very common in the US for almost all the companies. Tesla is not an exception. Every single company acts like this during mass layoffs. I am surprised that this is a sensation. The employees in the US are hired based on "Employment at will". This means the company can terminate an employee`s work contract in an instant without prior announcement. However, it works both ways. The employees can also quit the company without prior notice or approval of any sort. There is no mandatory work/notice period for the employee when they decide to quit. They are free to leave the very same day, very same minute. Please understand how the law and nature of employment works in the US before making videos about it. I hold this channel at a very high standard and thus being critical about it. But if the intention of this video is to mock Elon Musk with an agenda (Could even be due to politics or to set a narrative), I totally understand and the video is spot on.

The truth of the matter is , big companies all do it this way, they have to. If you telegraph your punches, so to speak, you give the person your punching enough time to react. They don't want potential employee sabotage or retaliation preemptively if they know they are getting axed right before they get the notice, so employers make it as much of a surprise as they can. It is true you are just a number to them, but if we really think about it, they are just a number to the employee too, the number on their paycheck, stock RSUs , and healthcare premiums, it's really that simple, it's just business. Can't be emotional about it and the guy at the top absolutely can't be emotional about it, he's got to keep his/her eye on the big picture. So, in short, suck it up and adapt, save while your making the money, and always always keep looking and networking for the next gig, and really we are all gig workers now days.
