0:00 Intro
0:05 Customer said he was driving around like this for a while, the technician could tell as well since the rear tires were wearing unevenly. As mentioned it was replaced under a recall on this customer's Ford Windstar and should have been replaced a while ago when the customer got the recall notice.
0:21 Dog toy wrapped around CV axle. No dogs were harmed, just a toy.
0:37 Needed new rear brake rotors, pads, and calipers. As mentioned the customer declined the repairs. The customer declined to get a tow truck so the shop paid a tow truck to tow it away as it's unsafe to drive. Also looks to have some front-end damage from possibly hitting stuff as the vehicle barely came to a stop.
0:56 A lot of curb rash and damage done to the wheels. No mention from the customer of how this happened.
1:12 The technician said: "insurance company is involved. Ended up replacing from and rear differentials as the fluid boiled since there was no fluid in the diff whatsoever."
1:40 Cat was safe and brought back to the customer's neighbor.
1:51 No extra info.
2:05 Damaged CV axle, wheel bearing (the customer said they somehow damaged it as well) and brake caliper were on the wrong side (bleeder screw should be at the top) and the brake line going to the caliper was loose.
2:21 The grease did not fix the issue. The customer got new brakes, rotors, and calipers installed.
2:28 No extra info.
2:41 "BMW 530i came in for a brake job he brought his own parts and said they were in the passenger side."
2:47 No extra info. The 22-inch wheels however probably don't help the vehicle's ride quality.
2:58 " I was driving eastbound on Broadway just past 7th street in South Phoenix. A red pickup passes me on the left, and the muffler/cat converter drops from the truck. I almost hit it, and couldn’t swerve right since there was a truck in the right lane."
3:05 This was in a customer's car. The mechanic was scared when this started to make noise when he was in the driver's seat.
3:14 Outro. Thanks for watching! - Auta a dopravní prostředky

"Customer declined all repairs" is such a scary phrase.

You as well my friend!
About 45 years ago, I turned up at my friends place to find him working on his CB250, one of those with front drum brakes. He was pumping oil into the little drain hole at the bottom. I screamed at him to stop. It was squeaking he said. Eventually, I convinced him to strip the brake and clean it. The shoes were contaminated, but I couldn't convince him he needed new shoes. We set off on the ride, and at the first roundabout he just went over the top. We then proceeded (carefully) to the dealer for new brake shoes and a can of degreaser, and new underwear for him.
I paid for the whole tube, I'm using the whole tube!
'My brakes were sticking, so I cut the line' is going to be the next one, isn't it?

How do you not notice the brakes being on for 20 miles in a car you're flat towing?! He MUST have noticed the extra resistance.
I think there is a little exaggeration going on. If those brakes were all fully locked up for 20 miles it would have worn all 4 wheels down to the hubs.
@@tinknal6449 true, if they weren't aware it could have been a shorter distance and maybe uphill?
So I’m a dedicated viewer of this channel and about a week ago I was told a friend of the family recently had their jeep catch fire that they tow behind their large motorhome. Someone flagged them down letting them know it was on fire. I guess they could not see it easily around the motorhome was the story I heard. I couldn’t help but wonder if this was their jeep. I believe they were in Florida when this happened. I also had a lot of questions when told this.
I’ve seen people drive miles with their emergency break on and not notice.
@@tinknal6449 If they were locked up there wouldn't be any signs of heat or wear on the rotors. Break away auto brake systems don't apply enough force to lock the breaks up, just to stop the vehicle fairly quickly.
Used to work at a Ford dealer as a Service writer. Checking in a truck with black leather interior and tinted windows. Didn't notice the black lab till I felt something lick my ear from behind!
When doing my first brake job, I remember being so worried about getting it right, overanalyzing all the tutorial videos to make sure I didn't screw up.
Guess not everybody's like me.
ya just got to remember ya basics and balincing the bloody wheels if thoes are changed too *proably a good idea to balince em regardless on the free for the sakes of covering ya butt.
You're the type of person it takes to be a great mechanic.
Right, just take your time about it. I didnt have the advantage of videos when I first started. Dial up internet and all. For anyone looking to try it out you can do things to make it go better. With brakes you can always go look at the other side if you are unsure. I also recommend taking before pictures prior to doing anything or once you have a cover off so you can refer back later if in question. Dont leave it all to memory, especially early on. After a brake job just assume they wont work right and test drive it carefully giving yourself plenty of space.
Critical Thinking is a very underpicked class skill. It can be applied to almost anything, although it can also handicap you in a few small situations.
@@andrewt.5567 To add to this:
A handwritten or even typed logging of what you are doing helps too if you are a bit wary of recording the whole process. It is fantastic when you know you will be interrupted multiple times for unknown amounts of time.
Also if you happen to be the first one, check over your finished product with a professional and dont be afraid to reach out and help others with your findings.

I'm suitably impressed with that broken axle fabri-cobble to get it to the service department.
At least they tried to do something to get it there. At the height of that recall, I had customers coming in with the rear of their vans swaying from where the axle broke. Had one even show up literally dragging the axle down the road. Of course, none of them actually came in because of the recall notice they received. They all showed up either wanting a safety inspection or maintenance....or they were complaining about a noise, ride quality or handling issue.
Me too. Crazy enough to try it, but good enough to make it work
The shop that paid for the tow truck charged the customer.... Right? If not, I need to know what shop that is, they're customer service is boss level 😂
It was an extra precaution against a lawsuit.
They likely billed the customer with follow-up threats of collections.
@@writerconsidered Wouldn't surprise me if the shop told the owner don't come back. That's the kind of repeat business nobody needs.
Customer declined a tow truck, so the shop paid for it. I agree, that's some customer service.
The shop didn't want any liability if the customer lost control and killed someone after driving away from the shop. Paying for the tow was insurance against a potential million-dollar judgment.
I literally sat at my desk for 5 minutes with my head in my hands trying to comprehend the levels of idiocy required to apply grease to brakes. It's been 20 minutes and I'm finally able to formulate sentences again. I feel dumber for having witnessed said acts of idiocy.
😆😆
Me too but then I thought, "might save the caliper until I get it to the shop".
I saw that and said to myself "No. I didn't see that. I didn't hear that. It's a good thing I didn't; I might be emotionally scarred."
@@tinknal6449 With grease on the brakes, I'm surprised they got it to a shop. instead of crashing into someone or thing.
yes- that sorta temporarily drained me for all hope of humanity when I saw the grease pack. Hello people- friction is the goal here--- it's the centerpiece reason why we stop.
The driver who decide to drive away with no rear brakes should be charged with a crime. This is clear negligence.

2:48 - Even after those wheels get balanced, it's still going to ride rough. A lot of people seem to not realize that tires are an important part of ride comfort. Less tire means less shock absorption, and consequently more risk to damaging the wheels.

Tell the precious customer to bring your recalled car back after they cleaned it
Third story, I'd be really tempted to say flat out to that customer: "Why do you feel the need to endanger yourself and others on the road? Does that make you feel good about yourself?"
That shop did some good talking to convince the non-customer to accept a tow. Even in self-interest the shop worked hard to avoid a calamity.

There is a recurring theme that rears its head in all these great clips that are sent in on this channel , and that is since 225 BC the metal chain has been put to good use , and Merry Christmas ..

I have a friend who complains about yearly inspections here in my state.
One watch of these videos makes me thankful for them cause without them, more cars like these would be on the roads
He's probably exactly who the inspections catch.
But is that true? Do the inspections actually prevent death traps from being on the road or are they useless? You can't just assume that something will work just because it makes sense on paper. Especially when the government is involved.
When I first moved to a state with mandatory inspections I was sure it was just going to be a cash grab. But in the 24 years I've lived here I've never had a shop try to upsell me on stuff I didn't need. A few have suggested replacing minor things like wiper blades but I was always free to decline, and still passed inspection.

I heard a lot of vehicles drive into and out of states, is it dependent upon the owners address or where the vehicle is registered?
@@paulknight5018 The vehicle is registered at the owner's address. If the owner has more than one address, like if they have a summer home, they might keep a vehicle at the summer home and register it there. University students use their home address, which of course can be far away.
Because there is money involved, it can get complicated.
I know someone who lied that he lived with his brother so he could register his car in the state of his brother where road taxes were much cheaper and no inspection. If caught, he would be in trouble, but someone would have to spend a lot of effort to prove his lie. Probably nobody cares that much.
On the other hand, if a traffic officer wants to write an easy ticket (citation), they might choose a vehicle with plates from another state. To argue the ticket, you must appear in the local court, and someone who lives away is unlikely to make the trip. Even more screwy, you can be affected by regional feelings. I lived in Massachusetts when that state had a dispute with New Hampshire about tax laws. When I drove to work in New Hampshire, I was more likely to be stopped by police just because of my plates.

the bloop for the cat popping out was a nice touch
0:56 Looks like someone drove off with a Tire Boot
01:51 Precisely why mandatory safety inspections are absolutely necessary and needed. The owner of that potential any-moment death trap vehicle drove next to people on the freeway for quite a while precisely because there was no safety inspections or specific legislation to prevent him from doing so.
Just make them liable when something happens. Mandatory safety inspections are a tax on the poor. "Oh you have a hole in your exhaust before the cat? Not road worthy." Fuck that shit.
We have no safety inspections where I live and I've never seen anything CLOSE to what I've seen on this channel. You need to keep in mind that the US has 350 MILLION PEOPLE, and this youtube channel presumably takes videos from the rest of the world as well. A couple super dangerous cars per video is proof of NOTHING. With OR without mandatory inspections WORLDWIDE it would be the exact same thing. A certain tiny percentage will fall through the cracks, that's life.
Meanwhile, for every car that should be taken off the road because of safety concerns, THOUSANDS of people have to pay hundreds of dollars for the inspection for NOTHING, THOUSANDS more have to pay hundreds for the inspection and then have to pay hundreds or thousands in repairs because of emissions and other NON-safety issues, etc.
YOU are proof that people don't fucking think.
1:15 it would seem like that would have caused a hell of a noticeable drag on the tow vehicle if all 4 brakes were applied on the vehicle that was in tow. Just floor it and keep going ?
Noise? Turn the radio up lol
@@JustRolledIn Right , LOL
I think there was some exaggeration on distance or the brakes were not fully locked up (except for the one).
Greased the brakes lol Sharp as a marble !! 😃👍👍👍👍
the snowman in the rear seat is like the auto pilot from Airplane! lmao
I....I never got over Macho Grande. - Ted Stryker
As somebody with a sane mind, I think it would be very interesting to live somewhere, where safety inspections are not mandated. Because I'd certainly watch myself to keep the car safe to drive, but otherwise being able to do whatever the hell you want is awesome.
Because for context: I'm German, and here every car needs to have a full safety inspection every 2 years. And even if you keep going without going through the inspection, doesn't matter where in the country, you can always run into cops who not let you keep going anywhere.
Arizona - no inspections
Don't expect every know it all car owners to have trained and qualified auto techs properly service and repair their vehicles anytime soon.
And Happy Holidays to you JRL, your subscribers and to all of your respective families.
Thanks, John! Happy holidays to you and your family. 😊
Blowup snowman in the backseat!!!! I'm gonna do that next year!!! I love it!!!
LOL the snowman in the back what a great idea!!!!
1:55 now that is why state safety inspections should be done in every state! Instead some simply have a smog test.
Where i am in NC cars over 30 years old don't have to have any inspection. :)
No thanks, just another way for auto shops to rob you.
That's my problem. Why do inspections end up just destroying good cars for emissions while letting death traps run free?
@@markbunn8576 all I can think of is "!?????". That's who should have them and every 6 months.
After every episode I'm just happy to live in a developed country... 😱
I'd rather live in a free one!
@@tinknal6449 Driving a car with no brakes is not exactly what I would consider freedom. 🤔
@@timorieseler276 Getting permission to drive certainly isn't. Driving with faulty equipment is already against the law.
That last one would scare the crap out of me too. Lmao 😂
Another outstanding video. Thank you for sharing.
Merry Christmas, Dave!
Ratchet straps don't rust!
😆
Friend of mine has one holding his fuel tank up....
It should be illegal to allow vehicles on the road that are so badly damaged.
The snow man in the back set really cracked me up!!
That poor jeep! I feel for the owner and I am so glad that it didn't do more damage.
I'm sorry but I 100% support state vehicle inspection every year... these people are dangerous to themselves as well as others...
May you have a safe and happy holiday, because we couldn't do without our "Just rolled in." LOL
Chain fix-it is impressive. Gotta remember that noise reducing grease tip.
These people should have their FICO scores reduced 200 points. 😆 Great video 👍 👍 👍 Merry Christmas to you and yours. 🎅 🎄
Merry Christmas to you and yours as well!
