  • These are classic oatmeal-butterscotch cookies that always bring smiles to the neighbors. We also spent a few extra minutes with a closer look at the cottage kitchen since a number of viewers asked to see more.

    Oh Wow Kevin....listening to Jonny Rae singing "just walking in the rain" in the background of your video....zapped me back to my elementary school days when I had that on a 78 rpm heavy old record...played it until the groove wore off and the needle just slid across to the centre of the disc....often while our house was filled with the scent of the oatmeal cookies my mother was baking. A happy trip down memory lane :) Thanks

      Hi Heather - glad we could bring back some good memories. I think that is something that both food and music can do for people...transport us back to special times with special people. Thanks so much!

      cavalcadeoffood It sure did. She would make a lot of them during the holiday season to gave to friends. We had a large Amana chest freezer on the front porch and shelves to hold extra pots and pans and top of the freezer and the shelves would be used as cooling racks.

    Hi Kevin and Ralph! Thank you for the tour of the cottage kitchen....what a lovely, charming place. Looks so warm, and homey with all the vintage knick knacks. I was thinking as you were showing them that since I remember a lot of those things from my childhood, that I am vintage too!!! Take care guys!

    Hi Kevin. Those cookies looked so good I could almost smell them! Like you, I swear by parchment paper for baking cookies, they brown better on the bottom and clean up is a breeze.
    I loved the tour of the cottage kitchen as well, it reminded me of the kitchen that I grew up in, I just wish you had included the whole cottage in your tour. I now live in a home that's 20 years old, and while it is nice, there is nothing like an old home that has been well cared for.

    • @cavalcadeoffood
      @cavalcadeoffood  Před 9 lety

      Thanks, Howard! We will have to include some of the rest of the place one of these days - of course I'll have to make sure everything is neat and tidy, which isn't often because the cottage is "lived in" and usually Grand Central Station on any given day! Thanks, as always!

      cavalcadeoffood If you guys are anything like us, try inviting over someone you don't know that well, but whose opinion you value. Before you know it, your sense of pride kicks in and the house is spotless and stays that way for days after the guests have left. This has worked really well for us for years. LOL

    Mmmmmmmm…… Those look delicious! I will try that recipe soon. I may add some golden raisins and chopped walnuts to some of the batter. I really liked Ralph’s idea of sandwiching peanut butter in between two of the cookies. YUMMO!

    The cookies look great, but your kitchen is fabulous! I've been waiting for this tour. I have a 1964 kitchen with new appliances which look fine because they are white, however I would love a vintage gas stove to replace my boring newish one. I collect and use Pyrex and Jadeite bowls and dishes and have found mustard-yellow canisters and a breadbox. I love the red in your kitchen! I would have walked into that kitchen and bought the place too. Thanks for the tour!

      Laura - you're welcome and I love the sound of your kitchen! There are lots of vintage gas ranges out there, so I'm sure you'll find one you really like. The vintage Pyrex and Jadeite are wonderful collections and I'll bet they are fun to use! Thanks so much for watching!

    FitAnge S Thanks for watching and your note! During the hot summer months (no air conditioning at the cottage!) I do keep the cookie dough in the fridge until it firms up a little and in between batches. I find the cookies don't "spread" as much while baking. During the cooler months, they seem to do fine without refrigeration. Thanks again!!

    Hi, guys love you.Love all the cooking lessons & tips you give . I wrote to you about Hudson's,, thank you for writing back how kind of you..my question is would you stuff your turkey or stuffing in a dish. I used to stuff the bird then take stuffing out. it's been a while since I make a turkey.. I grew old too soon & watching you brought the Polish delicious food,, I made the cheese soup OMG it was heaven.. I'm working on the butterscotch cookies. I also made the best borst(spelling bad). Thank you for listening 🤗

      @cavalcadeoffood  Před 2 lety

      Hi Rose! So glad you enjoy the videos! I always make my dressing in a dish rather than stuff the bird. This is how my mom did it and so I do it the same way, plus I often make my turkey in advance of Thanksgiving so stuffing it wouldn't be practical. Glad you like the cheese soup! I'll bet your borscht was delicious! Thanks!

    Boy those cookies look absolutly delicious. I love this recipe. I agree to take them out slightly earlier as they do brown upon standing. What's your opinion about placing the cookie dough in the fridge for about 30 minutes before baking them? I've heard that they keep their shape better.

    I always feel right at home in your cottage kitchen. So many things are like the ones I grew up with, The Tupperware salt shaker, the Pyrex bowl sets, and many of your decor pieces could be right out of my mom’s kitchen.

    I was surprised to see another video from the cottage! I know you guys are sad to close it up for the year. These cookies look yummy! I love butterscotch anything so I must try these. I have a recipe for butterscotch blondies that are very nice that I make occasionally. Thanks for the kitchen tour! I love love love it! Such personality and welcoming/inviting. So, the Crosley oven. I'm trying to figure out the heating element - is it covered in some sort of frame? It almost makes it look like a gas oven. I'm anxious to see what next year's stove model will be :) Cheers!

    • @cavalcadeoffood
      @cavalcadeoffood  Před 9 lety

      Thanks, Adam! I think there will be one more episode from the cottage and then that will be it for the year - we getting the Detroit kitchen ready! The heating element in the oven is an open coil type, which is why it has the guard/reflector around it - unlike a solid element used on later stoves. Although the technology is old, it still bakes great. Not sure what we will put in next season, but I've got a couple of good candidates ;-) Have a great Thanksgiving!!
