It's been years since I made a caramel cake! I bet that was so so good! Thanks for doing it
I love caramel cakes. thanks for sharing.
Came across you by accident but I was immediatly hooked. I'm in Michigan and this is by far my most favorite cake. I have my mom's Dormeyer mixer with 2 bowls and a juicer, it still works like a charm. Still has that wonderful smell from the motor. You guys are absolutely GREAT!!!!!! God Bless and take care always. I will be subscribing. Much love from Michigan.
You guys have taken me on so many trips down Memory Lane and this video is a great one. My mother had that very same Hamilton Beach "mixmaster". I still have the bowl and use it all the time. She even used to slide the head off the stand and use it as a portable hand held mixer. It must have weighed 20 lbs.! When I was a little kid, almost 60 years ago, I used to love to look into the vents on the end of the mixer and watch the little blue sparks the motor would make while running. I guess I was an easy kid to entertain! Please keep making videos. You guys make your audience feel welcomed and comfortable. You're the best!
+Don Williams Hi Don! Sorry to be so late in responding, but I just saw the notice of your comment! Thank you so much for the note and I'm glad that seeing that mixer brought back good memories. Some of those old mixers, like the Hamilton Beach, were very well made. We will keep the videos coming - thanks again for your comment and for watching!
Don Williams koo
My mom has which I inherited now a vintage doreymer mixer I would do the same thing watch the sparks in the motor and sniff the smell from the vents
Mixer about 60 years old and I still use it

Oh Kevin and Ralph!! Love you ! Been searching for this to make for Thanksgiving! My Momine (grandmother...how southern am I LOL) made this all the time. This is different from hers but I think the taste will be the same. I married a guy from Ohio and he nor his children have any idea what caramel cake is all about. I have been searching for this recipe for years! Thanks so much. This is going to remind me of my family that has been gone for so very very long!
+Starla Kelsey Hi Starla!! Thanks so much for your note! It seems whenever I had caramel cake it was in the south! Hope the cake turned out well!! Thanks for watching!!
Nice recipe..I'm gonna try it! One tip tho...if u wanted the frosting smoother..set ur offset spatula in warm water then go back over the frosting and it'll smooth it out nicely! Thanks again!
First of all....WOW! So I stumbled across your video while searching for Caramel Cake recipes to make for Thanksgiving. Instantly, I fell in love. From your vintage cookware and appliances to the music playing in the background, I was transported back to my childhood. The music reminded me of days when I was home sick from school, wrapped in a blanket watching old black and white movies. Nostalgic. I'm going to try this recipe. I've subscribed, now I must binge watch. Thank you for sharing 😊
Hi Lu_72481!! So glad that you found us!! Glad our recipe brought back good memories - hope you give the caramel cake a try and we appreciate you watching the recipes!
It’s was such a joy to watch this technique of making cake!! I’ve never seen it before, but I cannot wait to try this recipe!! It looks so delicious!! Thanks for sharing!💕
You're welcome, Kim! Hope you give it a try!
I truly enjoy your recipes, I've tried a couple and they rocked. Awesome.....
Ronnette Mckinnis Hi Ronnette - thanks so much for the note and for watching! Glad you like the recipes!
My absolute favorite cake of all cakes! I've never had a caramel cake where the actual cake layers were caramel. Usually yellow or butter cake layers. I will definitely be trying this very soon! Also, love your Hamilton Beach. I have a vintage Kitchen Aid and Sunbeam Mixmaster (which has juicer and meat grinder attachments). Love using them both. Cheers!
Adam - the most difficult part about making this batter is NOT eating the caramel sauce before putting it in the mix! And you know how much better this cake will taste when you make it using your vintage Mixmaster!! Hope you give it a try!!
Love your stove!
I'll to make this one for my grandson that loves caramel cake. I usually don't use the powered sugar style. But Carmel in cake and icing, he'll flip out. Love the tutorial 💗
Thanks, Beverly! I hope your grandson likes the cake!
OMG!! I am so happy I surfed across this video, your cake looks delicious and I cannot wait to try and make this. I also love everything vintage, and I love that you shared the info on your vintage mixer, I will be looking for one of them, as well as your vintage or retro looking dishes. I love your vintage stove, wonder why they do not make that style today it looks like you have so much more room. Love the music, and your front door to your house. I too have a lot of vintage items, my stove is a vintage Frigidaire that has the work space on the right side, it also has a speed burner, and panels on all four side of the oven so your actual oven never gets dirty, you just slide the panels out and clean them. I think there is just the utmost quality in vintage items that are not found in items made today. Thank you Kevin & Ralph for a great video.
markay vintageformeforever Thanks so much for watching and your nice note! Glad to meet another vintage fan!! Yes, the older stoves are very well built and a joy to cook on. Your Frigidaire range sounds great! Thanks again!
Your very welcome, and thank you for responding so quickly. My favorite vintage item to collect right now is vintage sewing machines, I have 16 total right now 3 of them are treadles, and yes I know it is a bit much, :) but I just think the vintage machines are so cool. On the plus side, I love to sew. Have a great weekend. Markay
Awesome! 😀
Had a great time watching it can't wait to try it!😀
+coffee makes me happy Thanks so much for watching and I hope you give the cake a try!!
I made this for Christmas and it turned out perfect. I'll use the remainder of the sauce as an ice cream topping:).
Johnetta - thanks so much for letting us know!! Glad it came out well and great idea to use the leftover sauce on ice cream!! Happy New Year!
I just ordered a new stand mixer, this will be the first cake I make. This is a wonderful video.
Thanks so much, Pamela and I hope you enjoy your new mixer and this recipe!!
OMG fell over this video and OH WHAT A TRIP IT WAS - you made an incredibly delicious looking cake! I was enjoying the music in the background & didn't realize it was The Jackie Gleason Orchestra. I thought we were the only ones of our generation that owned this music. Very relaxing - have a holiday tape of theirs too! Thanks for the relaxing, inspiring and informative baking lesson. Gonna check out some more of your videos🚫🙄🐝😃
Hi Mary! So glad you found us and liked the recipe - and the Jackie Gleason music! I think I have almost all of his albums (on LP). Such warm and relaxing music. Thanks so much for watching!
Hi Kevin and Ralph! I've been binge watching your coking videos, and they are all marvelous! How often do you cook, Kevin? Every day? I'm always so tickled when you say, "I found this jar of [fill in odd item, like jar of dried beef] in the cupboard and decided to make [interesting dish]". There's something so early 1960s about everything you prepare, and it's soooooo homey and comforting!! I just want to sit down at the table with you guys and have coffee and cake or supper! And Margie is a doll, too!
Keep 'em coming, fellas!!
Robin in NYC
Phaedra Ovid Thanks Robin! We really appreciate hearing from you! We cook most days (sometimes I'm just too tired at the end of the day). Usually it is something simple but we try to take some of those opportunities and share the cooking experience with friends like you! Thanks so much for watching!!

Hi Cooking With Mrs J! People get those two mixed up often, but yes they are different. Someone once told me to use "canned milk" and I wasn't sure which one they meant! Thanks so much for watching!
Guys I am so glad you made a caramel cake from scratch. I really want to make one and I think I have asked in the past if you can make one kevin. This is fantastic I love it. Will definitely make it
FitAnge S Thanks, FitAnge!! Hope you give this cake a try!!
"We'll leave the shell out this time." You guys are quick on the humor. Have you ever done a video for making homemade caramel icing? It's always been a personal favorite on devil's food cake.
Hi cunard61 - thanks so much! We haven't done homemade caramel icing - sounds wonderful on devil's food!! Great idea! Thanks for watching!
Hi can you please list the ingredients and amounts used for both cake and frosting. I would love to bake this for my family.

nice video. your so great at what you do. good job. I'm kind of jealous I don't know how to make a cake from scratch.
Thanks for the note! If you find a cake recipe you like, just follow it carefully and you will be able to make a cake from scratch! Thanks for watching!
Looks great. A tip for smooth sides... Dip a spreading knife in warm water and it will flatten any lumps
Hi Mark! Great tip - thanks!!
Excellent finish guys!
Thanks so much, Wendy!
Looks great.
Thanks for watching!
Mashallah looks nice!
Thank you!
This seven-year-old video showed up on my feed today. Can't think how I missed it.
Hi James - better late than never! :-)
i tried both. putting bread in the brown sugar, and i just lay a slice of bread on top of my cookies and it keeps them nice and soft. oh ya u got to cover them too. about every two days if they r not gone i get rid of the old bread and lay a new one on
Hi Brenda - great tip! Thanks for sharing and for watching!
Where did you get.the measuring cup that you had the shortning in?
Pampered chef was the first place i saw these. I would imagine any kitchen store would have something like this.
What kinda stove top I love it 🎂where might I find one?
Hi connie - that is a Westinghouse Terrace Top range from 1963. They haven't made these in 50 years, so I'm not sure where you might find one but they do come up for sale used from time to time. A great design idea. Thanks for watching!
That salt shaker looks like the ones my friend had from Tuppeware back in the 70s
Yes!! It is a Tupperware salt shaker, although I think my mom got this in the 60's! Thanks for watching!
Ever thing looks like what I used to cook with in the 60ts how did you keep every thing so nice love it haven't seen a mixer or cake plate like that in years not.only did you make a great cake but u took me down memory lane
Looks good. Just wondering if that was your son tapping? Couldn't help but laugh when he said, "I think that's a good sign"@19:36.
Looks good my friend...tfs
Thank you!! Appreciate you watching!
OMG this looks so good, (well expect for the nuts, but I don't like nuts) Thanks Ralph for asking about the evaporated/ condensed milk you were reading my mind. I can't wait to try this recipe with no nuts of course :-)
Thanks - this will still be a great cake without the nuts! Hope you give it a try and thanks for watching!
I made this cake for a client last Christmas! It got rave reviews! I am about to make it again for another client who heard about the one I made last year. Thank you guys!
Oh oh, by the way I made it without nuts. Lol!
I'm 66 years old and I still have an GE electric mixer that was my mother's first electric hand mixer and it still works. I still use it. But I'm going to retire it. I getting a stand mixer. 💗
Hi Beverly! It shows that the GE mixer of your mom's was well built! You can keep the hand mixer for small jobs and enjoy your new stand mixer!! Thanks for watching!
What brand mixer was that that u used .. looks older than mine wow
Hi Bob - that's a vintage Hamilton Beach mixer in this video. Thanks!
That must just taste AWESOME!!
Hi Heather - I have to say, it was pretty darn good ;-) Thanks for watching!
I would have made a nicer frosting than the one you used, you could have used the same recipe as you did for the sauce you made for the cake and added 1egg, Tsp vanilla and beat it in the mixer until it almost starts to set up you would have had an old fashion dark caramel frosting that would have set up like candy instead the powdered sugar frosting, I was disappointed when I heard you say you where going to use powder sugar icing I’m sure it was ok and faster for you but a real caramel icing would have been awesome on that gorgeous old fashion caramel cake, Great job on the cake.
Thanks for watching and your suggestion for the frosting, Tammy!
I can't find the recipe here.
Thank you for your beautiful delicious recipe yum 😋 do you have your recipe please thank you 😊👍🌹
What about Carnation Milk? It works beautifully.
Great idea, Norma! Thanks for watching!
I bet it was good.
+IAMANGELHEART38 It really was!! Thanks for watching!
Evaporated milk is different from condensed milk. Condensed milk has sugar….like Eagle Brand Sweetened Condensed Milk…..very thick and very sweet. Evaporated milk is canned milk that has had some of the liquid “evaporated” out……two different kinds of milk.
Kevin…..you must not be a diabetic! You lucky guy! I love caramel cake and I have not had any in so long…..big sigh.
Do you have the recipe printed somwhere ?
Sorry - we are working on a website to post the written recipes...Thanks for watching!
Ok thanks,I'll watch again and make sure I have the correct measurements.I want to make this cake! Looks yummy!
Cavalcade of Food put it in the description area...
Can I freeze it?
Hi Marguina! You can freeze the cake - the frosting may not do well in the freezer, though...I'm thinking it may crack. You could freeze the cake and then when you want to use it, just whip up the frosting and frost the cake. Thanks for watching!
Perfect!! Thanks!!
I dip my spreader in hot hot to help smooth
Excellent tip - thanks, Beverly!
Sugar gravy mmm 😋
LOL! I love "sugar gravy"!!!
making it in the terrace top
Hi Jason - one of my favorite ranges! Thanks!
Does any of the wide element frigidaires turn or glow
orange
Tried and proven a half of slice of bread will suffice keeping your sugar moist.
Thanks, Bertha! I've heard that and I'm going to give it a try!
This looks fantastic but it seems a little too labor-intensive for me to ever think about making this.
Hi Howard - yes there are quite a few steps in this one, but the end result was worth it. Thanks for watching!
Lazy ass
Where is the recipe??
Moo
I'm so dizzy after watching that...u need a new camera man..
jane hopson it's a home video... not a damn Paramount video... get real... you do better!
I kinda wish the camera guy would stop talking.
I like that he talk, he think of questions that Ralph forget to mention
