  • In today’s video, I’ll show you how you can make a garden tool storage system for you garage/shed wall using French cleats! This is the perfect project to help get your garage/shed organized and get back some floor space by utilizing the wall. One of the best parts is that the French cleat system is adjustable - you can easily move hooks around and reconfigure the wall at any time without having to drill any holes or take anything apart.
    This is a really easy beginner project and will make a huge difference in clearing up space and getting your tools organized. Be sure to subscribe for some more great garage/workshop organization projects coming up soon - you definitely don’t want to miss it!
    Check out my website for a step-by-step guide of how I built it: augustpineworkshop.com/posts/...

    I like your French cleat system. Very versatile. I think I’ll make this instead of what I was planning!

    This is a really good video.
    Only modification if you want to save six bucks or so...
    Just use 90° wall shelf brackets. They sell them at home Depot and Lowe's. They're in the hardware section, not in the storage/racks organization section.
    They cost between 2 and $3 for 10x12, and they might have 12x14 brackets. Again they're meant for wall shelves. But if you flip them upside down, they can be used just like this. Very thin metal too, so you can bend the ends of them if you want to make a stopper so nothing slides off.
    Again, is a really good video. Thank you.

      Thank you so much, I really appreciate it! And thanks for sharing, that’s a great tip! I’m actually about to work on some more french cleats for other tools so I will definitely plan to look for these when I’m putting it together.

    Nice job! Just thinking out loud here - I’m wondering if a French cleat system is more appropriate for smaller items like hand tools and power tools? It seems like the longer items (shovels, rakes, string trimmers, etc) hang vertically such that they cover up the longer, horizontal cleat boards that are installed on the wall directly below ?
    Why not do one cleat board attached to the wall so a shovel handle or string trimmer shaft doesn’t block the clear boards below them? Nice video, thank you.

      Thanks for the suggestion, I definitely do plan to do another wall for smaller tools as well but haven’t gotten around to it quite yet.
      And I think your idea about 1 board makes a lot of sense. There is definitely a good bit of wasted space with this setup because of the long handles and using fewer boards would probably still allow you to store the same number of items. If you went that route, you could also use a 1x4 or 1x6 instead of having to buy a whole sheet of plywood. Great idea!

    Thanks, nice video and system which I’m considering for my garage. Question.. when you lift a garden tool (such as a shovel) off of the hanger, does the hanger tend to slip out of the wall cleat ? If it does, I was thinking some Velcro might hold it in place.

    • @augustpineworkshop
      @augustpineworkshop  Před rokem +1

      Thanks a lot Bill! In my experience that hasn’t been an issue at all so far, the cleats seem to sit pretty securely in place. But if it does ever become an issue, I will definitely try out the velcro!

    I really like this project. But, I don’t have a table saw & I cannot justify buying one at my age or enough projects around my home to complete per that type of investment. Single 68 yo female, disabled/handicapped & 4’11”. I still try despite my limitations. But, great tool storage project.

    • @augustpineworkshop
      @augustpineworkshop  Před 9 dny

      Thank you, I’m glad you like the project! I completely understand - it is a big investment. I’m not sure if you have access to a circular saw, but if you do that may be a suitable alternative. You would just need to adjust the angle of the blade to 45 degrees and use a straight edge to cut the french cleat strips!
