    Thanks for posting this. I got some 2x4 from a pallet that was carrying something very tall, lugged it home in the pickup, and kept the 2x4 for a rainy day. After 20 something years of putting my garden tools in a corner or wherever I could fit them I finally looked up organizational ideas and decided this was the one for me. It works *perfectly* and I am ecstatic.
    Finally decided to organize my shed-like garage (it's barely big enough for a MINI) and installed some pegboard as well. Thanks for posting this. This was a 1 out of 10 in terms of difficulty - the hardest part was finding my countersink bit - and a 10 out of 10 in terms of functionality and form!
    And just to clarify 2x4 work fine. I would suggest people use whatever spare material they have. A zero cost project like this is just fantastic.

      I also recycled some old double hooks I had in my closets that I renovated....screwed them in between the pairs of tool hangers. This is a great addition since you're able to hang smaller, shorter things that won't take up drawer space like a short level, a pry bar, an umbrella, etc.
      Here is a picture of what I did. I also added a second 2x4 below it so that I could hang my pipe clamps.

    Very nice work sir. I finally found the design I intend to use my my garage because of you.
    Whats the deepest you'd recommend those arms reach?
    From my mounting wall, I have roughly 10" before it interferes with my garage door railing. I like your stacking method but dont want to add too much weight. I'd obviously would store heavier tooling against the backer board and lighter ones on the opened side.
    What final length did you end up with on yours?

    • @splintercelloo7
      @splintercelloo7 Před 5 lety

      I shouldve read comment before asking.. I see you said 6.5 and would go deeper. Im pretty sure its safe to goto 10" considering it mounting to studs through drywall.

    • @Foleywoodworking
      @Foleywoodworking  Před 5 lety +1

      As long as you connect the arms with long enough screws it should be fine to go longer. Realistically garden tools don't weigh very much so there is not a lot of stress on the arms. I keep the heavier items like sledge hammers on the ground anyway.

    • @Foleywoodworking
      @Foleywoodworking  Před 5 lety +5

  • @VinceEspositoJr
    @VinceEspositoJr Před 5 lety +2

    Was the 5 deg angle on the back of the brackets to tilt the brackets upward? It looks like the cut was not the full height of the bracket - like only about half. See 55-105. Why?

    • @Foleywoodworking
      @Foleywoodworking  Před 5 lety +3

      Vincent Esposito yes the 5 degree angle was just to tilt the bracket upward. The cut was the full height. The lower part of the cut was just barely shaving the cut. Blade kerf is 1/8”.

  • @mattg3049
    @mattg3049 Před 4 lety +1

    Why do you do the slight back and forth when you start your cut with the miter saw? Does it prevent tearout?

    • @Foleywoodworking
      @Foleywoodworking  Před 4 lety +1

      Yes it does a little. If I am doing more fine/detail work I will even go as far at putting painters tape on the area I am going to cut to prevent or minimize tear out.

    How long are the arm piece and what is the angle cut at the bottom?

    • @Foleywoodworking
      @Foleywoodworking  Před 4 lety +1

      the arm pieces are 7" long but you can cut them as long as you'd like. The angle of the arm where it attaches to the mounting plate it 5 degrees. The Angle at the bottom of each arm is 45 degrees.

    The author does like to from scratch, czcams.com/users/postUgkxbnOKZBE4evMO5V2vroHeCjq6d_MV6wJO shaping and trimming wood from large blocks into fine finished products. As another reviewer mentioned, most projects require a lot of high-dollar equipment that most of us don’t have the room or budget for. But, knowing how to do these things, even if we won’t be able to practise the full stack project, is still great.

    • @Foleywoodworking
      @Foleywoodworking  Před 3 lety +2

      The blade was just dull and I didn’t want to make a trip to Home Depot just for a new blade. I didn’t want to stress the motor too much so I just took smaller passes.
