Tyrion is far kinder than so many other Lords.
For lannister standards, he's a saint
@@CougheePlsgosh, that hits so hard for how true it is
He did have a singer turned into stew once
next to his father the smartest
If it were Joffrey or Tywin, Sansa was raped.
Do we really need to bleep out the word ‘naked,’ then go on to describe his ‘manhood’ in vivid detail? Unnecessary censorship.
I was going to say the exact same thing lol
all censorship is vile, only CZcams's is vile and dumb at the same time
Yeah, an algorithm that notoriously filters for specific words will do that to content creatirs
@@Huorfern We live in a golden age of the euphemism
Can't blame him. CZcams has been going crazy with censorship lately.
Ok but Tyrion in the TV show is actually a gorgeous man
Yeah. They couldn't make him tio ugly in the TV show because the viewers wouldnt have liked it. At least most of them wouldn't have liked it. I'm sure there are many, including myself, who would have found it made Tyrion's character more impactful and compelling.
@@leahsanders798right. i cringe so hard everytime the book slips a description of tyrion's face. I try to forget it 😭
Tbf it would be quite mean/harmful to hire someone specifically for being immensely ugly. Than bc he is supposed to be someone with dwarfism the character would becomes even more just a spectacle and the actor would likely be made to suffer due to the huge attention the role got.
The number of actors who are ok with being cast specially for not looking good is also quite small I think.
Some ppl would also say that the attention is also a reason why the actor for that role becomes kind of a representation for all real ppl with dwarfism - especially since there hasn't been such a big role explicitly for someone so small in the longest time.
(Harry Potter goblins are smaller roles and don't count with all the prosthetics in their faces and the Willow reboot came later)
So if you cast someone hideous in that role the point for which he is called a monster in the books - being a dwarf AND ugly - may become in some viewers and other ppls minds get lost and instead it might seem that he is ugly BECAUSE he is a dwarf, like that is what all of them look like.
Or you run the risk of the viewers either agreeing that he must be a monster or just pitying him for his looks. Both would have been fun to see refuted by the way the character is actually written but I can also see how that might have limited the role in the series.
The whole thing was highly discussed beforehand and during casting and honestly I don't think there is one easy answer.
It was the only 'but" I had with the casting of Peter Dinklage. He was too handsome to be Tyrion.
And in the characterization they could have at least given him the heterochromia and the too blond almost white hair that made his father suspect he was not a lion, but a dragon.
The books are so full of details that plenty get lost on the tv show.
@@Huorfern- When you’re an actor, you know the roles you can play in the rules you can’t. Actors would rather be working in an “ugly” role than unemployed.
The one she wanted, the pretty one, was abusive. The ones called ugly were the ones who were kind to her and saved her...
He tried to rape her, had alread climbed all over and out his hands on her. He only stopped because he hated his own appearance, not because of any concern for her.
She wasn't even a teenager and we know Tyrion wasn't concerned with that either.
Show Tyrion was nice, book Tyrion not nearly so much.
Sansa was 12 with a disfigured little man forcing her to undress and forcing himself on too of her. Yet somehow people are angry at her for trying to find some minor solace in the ways of acting like a lady she was taught.
Oh you need to read the books. Tyrion is not a good person in the books. He is spiteful and lustful and doesn't care about consent when it comes to wh0r3s. He is attracted to Sansa and she is a child but a high born child so he'll wait for consent I guess. Anyway his character is different in the show. He is not good in the books
@@andrewmasson4829 if I remember correctly he was disgusted at himself for being attracted to a child, said as much in his own inner monologue. Maybe reading comprehension isn't your strong suit
@@XoxoDarling616 it's a good effort to have Tyrion's inner monologue since it's a Sansa chapter
@@andrewmasson4829 Tyrion has a chapter that tells what happened from his POV. Or maybe he said it out loud, it's been a couple years since I read the books.
[a long rant has been written by a die-hard Sansa defender in light of comments on this video either saying she is vain for rejecting Tyrion or that Tyrion is an angel in this scene and such a great guy. Don’t read if you are easily butthurt]
Maybe everyone here only saw the show. The show made Tyrion A LOT nicer and this section of the book is not the full scene. Tyrion climbs off of Sansa after already ordering her to undress, climbing on top of her, groping her, and being moments away from consummating their marriage. For everyone saying how kind and sympathetic Tyrion is to Sansa’s situation let me spell out what his POV narration in the full scene is saying: He sees how frightened she is and does not feel pity for her, he feels disgusted with himself. And not disgusted with himself that he almost r*ped a child, but disgusted with himself that he is ugly.
That’s why he backs off. Sansa is also twelve in this scene, not 14 like in the show (which is seriously no better). He is not so disgusted with having a child bride in the books, even though she is disgusted by him. And why wouldn’t she be? His family killed her family, Tyrion himself led his family’s soldiers that they had in King’s Landing against Stannis /for/ his family, he is missing his nose and half of his face is peeled off or covered in a gnarly scar (it is much worse in the books than in the show) - he looks terrifying and as far as Sansa knows he IS terrifying. He is a Lannister and has fought for the Lannisters. Just because he doesn’t enjoy beating her in full court does not mean he might not still be awful.
She has every right to despise members of that family and be afraid and terrified of her situation. Let alone she’s a twelve year old girl under the full impression she’s about to be r*ped. Yes, being in your mid to late 20s and then bedding your child bride is r*pe. Yes, what Tyrion did to Sansa, even though he backed off at the end and didn’t go through with it, was in fact still SA. It’s not just about what he did or didn’t do, it’s about the fear inflicted upon Sansa by what he might’ve done. Almost being r*ped is still a trauma.
The hate that Sansa gets for rejecting Tyrion while she is a twelve year old girl rejecting this 20-something year old man who wants to sleep with her (and we know that by his vividly detailed erection) or the comments talking about “I hope they end up together in the end because it would show she’s grown and not as vain anymore” HER REJECTING TYRION IS NOT ABOUT VANITY. “But what about her trying to find his beauty?” Trying to find the beauty in the beast who is currently on top of her trying to force this child to do s*xual acts is her attempting to COPE it is a SURVIVAL INSTINCT she is trying to do what a lot of r*pe victims do and alter the meaning of the moment in her mind because the reality is so painful that if she doesn’t change something about the situation or focus on something else it will break her young mind. This is a real human survival instinct that particularly children do in reaction to SA and is the cause of them developing Dissociative Identity Disorder or multiple personality disorder later in life - oh hello Alayne, the made up alter ego she takes on in the next book 👀 that’s not intentional by the author at all. Sansa is literally constantly disassociating after the trauma of King’s Landing and trying to make a new persona to protect herself after she gets out.
And in case I haven’t made it clear enough regarding any of the hate she’s been receiving, SHE’S A DAMN TWELVE YEAR OLD. BEING SA’D IN THIS SCENE. TWWWWEEEEEEELLLLLLVE. TWELVE.
Preach
Love this. You explained it so much better than I could why I felt this scene was not a win for Tyrion at all. Oh great he didn’t fully grape her, what a guy! Gross.
This so much! I cannot understand why in the TV show they opted to make scenes like Dany and Drogo's wedding night way LESS consensual and still have them fall in love the same way, and then with Sansa's story they took this trauma with Tyrion out but then went WAY harder with the horrible abusive marriage to Ramsey Bolton. Its like they went from "Nah we can't show a kid get SAed on screen" to "Okay shes just old enough that we can go SUPER dark with it to prove this guy is properly evil" even though raping Dany repeatedly doesn't make Drogo evil apparently? That show was so all over the place sometimes, even when it was good.
Preach my sister.

YES ❤ say all I want to say ❤❤❤
Sansa always wants beautiful men, but always involve with the Hound and Tyrion. What an irony
And these men are only ones who show her kindness, unlike her golden-haired handsome prince.
“The world is built by killers, better get used to looking at them”
@RandomPerson-xn2rf "your father was a killer your brother is a killer the lannisters are killers the world is built by killers you better get used to looking at them"
It seems all the characters who have the traditional storybook "love" idea do not work out. And we even find that the couple who have the great love, Ned and Catelyn, were forced into marriage and grew to love each other later.
Sansa wants beautiful men but shes a 12 yr old girl surrounded by 25-30 yr old men?? both the hound and tyrion are way too old for her, she's a victim
His heart. His compassion. That was where his beauty lay.
Also his brilliance. He may be small and ugly, but he is kind and smart (ofc he isnt ugly in the show cause Dinklage is playing him but lets forget that for the sake of the argument)
I can only speak from the show but Tyrion was funny, smart , sad, compassionate man who was vertically challenged
He just forced her to take her clothes off and attempted to rape her. With the full text it is clear he stopped because he hates himself because of his appearance not because he felt bad for Sansa.
book tyrion wasn't that kind
@@emilegriffith1473book Tyrion was a rapist
Yes thank you Sansa keeps the hounds cloak and hugs it from time to time
He was one of the few who felt horrible for a girl who blindly fell in love with a character from a book only for it to end up in her families death and a literal pawn in her inheritance as she was just a piece to be used by any lord who had her near. Especially with the evil character she first fell in love and then became a prisoner to be tortured.
Turion did want her but he really felt bad. Most of the lords knew it was fucked up but we're to scared to try and do anything. Only the hound and turion did attempt something.
@@LoopyAnhBloody hell... learn English.
Well read. Sansa was a lady. A well trained little bird. She armoured herself with her courtesies, it made her feel strong.
I like to think she found and brought out the beauty in the hound
His beauty was his mind and his spirit and knowledge
Not to mention his courage
The world hated Tyrion. Only Jaime and Tysha ever loved him. That gave Tyrion a great deal of empathy for people stuck in bad situations they couldn’t get of, because that was his lot in life.
Tysha? Forgive me I haven't read the books but she was just paid to marry Tyrion wasn't she? Did she actually love him then?
@@natalielock5489 no, Tywin told Jaime to say he’d hired her. In actual fact Tysha had fallen in love with Tyrion but then had his men rape her Tysha actually did love Tyrion and Tywin couldn’t stand the thought of anyone loving Tyrion.
@@danielriley7380it isn’t Tywin couldn’t stand the fact anyone to love Tyrion he didn’t care about this part(maybe he did a bit can’t remember much)
But what he cared was his family name, and his son being married to a low born was something he’d never agree for and that’s why he made Tyrion and his men do all the terrible things to her and told Jamie to tell Tyrion that she was a pro*titute
@@danielriley7380And succeeded in forge his own doom and creating a path for Tyrion to become more like Tywin and Tywin most hated son was his most perfect heir how ironic.
@@danielriley7380 you got that last part wrong. Tywin was furious that a Lannister married a common girl, which would've brought shame to the house whose reputation he had fought to recover
This speech from Tyrion would’ve won my heart and loyalty forever. ❤
Ahh yes, the "im not going to rape you" wins every girl heart at an instant. Specially when the girl is 13, coming from a 30something.
Let's act like he wasn't about to do it.
Let's be real, it wasn't kindness, it was the bare minimum. The real kindness would have been to tell her "you don't need to sleep with me" before making her lay naked in the bed.
Real kindness would have been giving her support when her family died, let her go for a few weeks to another lords castle (perhaps higgarden) to escape the capital for a little while and from his toxic family.
If only having a good heart and honest intentions was enough for today's world.
@@rc59191well, I mean, that isnt all he had. He also had power, nobility and lots of money. If those things weren't in play, he would have never even met Sansa, let alone married her. Things definitely weren't better in a feudal system than they are today. All that being said, I relate to your overall sentiment.
@@rc59191 I wish
@@leahsanders798 the books represent a fantasy world more than they represent history. We both know it's based on history but a lot of aspects are more fantasy than reality.
For example infectious disease was a bigger deal, higher infant mortality, no dragons, etc in the real feudal times. It would be interesting living in a world where half the population is pregnant most of their reproductive years. As far as child bearing is concerned Game of Thrones seems less harsh than the real feudal times.
Wow, you can't even say naked

I mean from what I read he has done some terrible things. But then we also have to add that a person can change as they get older. By medieval standards of which this character and everything else should be judged, he is redeemed from much of it. He is one of very few that can be somewhat considered good in the period that the show and books are set. He shows respect, he respects those in mourning and isn't unnecessarily cruel, he doesn't kill without reason and if push comes to shove he steps up to the cause. He has also learned how to love.
Poor Tyrion. The 13 year old prisoner didnt want him... How tragic.
Be fair here, she was more down to bang Geoffrey
the tragic part was that he didn't receive an ounce of sympathy or friendship despite trying his best
@@zaumniy_fantast well, it wasn't Sansa's problem that he was treated badly frankly. Regardless of circumstance, a full fledged adult waiting for a medal from a child is just lame
@@artorhen sure but you do see sansa show sympathy to a lot of characters throughout her chapters but to tyrion who was kind to her before the marriage as well also it's not that tyrion is expecting a reward he's the only one who can sire a heir from his main branch of the family and also wants approval from his father who's the one that arranged the marriage
@@trollfacemafiagaming6036 she never treats anyone badly, but doesn't go out of her way to help them, including Tyrion, because they all took part in killing her family in her eyes. Sansa's story isn't one where she is going to make friends or be in a space where she can be nice to people, so I don't understand your point.
Later in the show she has power over both of her husbands and we see she does no harm to Tyrion, because he has not harmed her either, when he had power over her.
The way Tyrion is after ASOS takes a turn for the worse, in that he says and does certain atrocities, and even though these are in no way justifiable or to be forgotten, it's a real testament to how good his writing is; despite being treated horribly his entire life, Tyrion manages to still be a somewhat compassionate character who commits neccesary evils in the first three books. We see him slip a few times because deep down he is a intensely angry person who is disgusted by the people around him and how they treat him. It's only after finding out about Tysha, killing Shae and Tywin that he finally snaps. His actions aren't excusable, but you can understand why his life leads him to the point he gets to.
Thicket of coarse yellow hair. Nice. Tyrion was a 1970s man.

Show Tyrion was fine as hell tho.
It's so deep that Sansa thought: "anyway, subscribe for more". So relatable
Holy crap! The books were a lot more emotionally mature than I realized. Tyrian is the GOAT
Why is naked censored? Who is offended, seriously?
CZcams is (demonetisation)
i don’t think it’s about offensiveness, more likely youtube demonetization or something
The puritan Christian companies that run all the ads on CZcams.
Half the times people's comments get hidden or deleted even when nothing offensive was said. It's insane.
Some idiot would have complained
Wowww, i gotta read the books bruh.
I did know....
Erm, What's with the weird lannister bondage fan art?
Ain't no damn way, I'm not playing with Tyrion's mess today. Sansa has always been a character that I've just tried to like. I can't stand her, she hits a nerve but I don't want her to be hurt. Season 8 has my heart bitter but that's not the canon. I'm happy as hell that this wasn't in the show. This change was a moment that I saw Tyrion as a better man. He didn't take advantage of Ned's child, her being Cat's daughter. I took the scene as him being able to respect his wife. Tyrion won me with that.
That book knowledge will mess up your POV almost every time. I'm so happy this wasn't how I first received that moment. Ooooowweweeee. I'm learning that Tyrion is a different character in the books. Sansa scored a win that day.
What was brutal about it?
Maybe the fact that Tywin ordered him to impregnate a child?
Tyrion has more class than 99% of the characters
Tyrion had a beautiful inner character. Dinklage is handsome and talented, but HORRID outside his looks.
Tyrion is a good man...at the end of the day. Made a villain because of his fucked up family
Tyrion and the hound are both ugly yet they’re some of the nicest characters in GOT. Looks aren’t everything.
(SPOILER WARNING)
She never finds his beauty
Tyrion IS beautiful.
Tv show Tyrion is, not books Tyrion
@@Wordlifemattespecially as he is in A Dance with Dragons.
Whatever kindness existed within him in the first book is long since gone with the revelation his brother lied to him about his wife.
@@mellowyello1478 Then why did he save Aegon, Jorah or Penny?
True, but he is twice her age and often drunk. Not the kind of man I would like to sleep with either.
@quaderex3420 fAegon because he knows it's a good way to disrupt or destroy Westeros further. Jorah, because he might be of use either to Dany, fAegon, or to Westeros in general as a sort of pawn or leverage tool.
Penny, I'm not sure. Maybe kindness. Maybe sociopathy, keeping her as a sort of pet.
At the end of the book, Trion gets his older personality back, but hes still a creature of rage and spite, wanting to ruin Westeros at large. He has become the foil of his father, as Tywin put himself first, his family second, and Westeros at large a very close third.
As bad as Tywin was when it came to petty issues, he largely did what he could to keep Westeros at large cohesive and in peace until he had to drop the hammer.
Tyrion has now decided to use his father's political strategy to just bring as much pain and ruin to Westeros as he possibly can.
That bondage thumbnail...I love it.
This makes no sense, if was going to say that then why the hell did he get naked. There was no reason for the nakedness. And people wonder why I never watched the show or read the books.
I do know, in fiction and reality, that people see what they want to see and women will be attracted to what they like and not much else.
They also don't owe anyone to be attracted to them. Especially children to adults
Tyrion had just forced her to get naked, forced himself on her and intended to have his way with her. He stopped because of his own self loathing based on his appearance. He didn't care about Sansa's feelings, nor that she was 12.
Sansa is not in the wrong here.
@@andrewmasson4829 I know that Sansa is not unjust, but I do know that females have a hypergamous and fickle nature when it comes to "what they want"!
I here ppl saying Book Tyrion isn't nice. My understanding is that GOT is based off a midevil world, but with magic.
I know how brutal the mid evil(im prolly spelling it wrong.😂) times were.
Based off that knowledge, i think he was nice.
If he was nice by our standards, he would have been killed long ago.
He lost the nose defending King's Landing, and indirectly protecting her.
And she saw that as gross.

She was trying to overlook it but Tyrions appearance is atrocious in the books
@@LilMelvinD239 yeah, like what more do people want from her? She's a child, even in Westeros, it's not normal for a child to be forced into sexual encounters like she was. And the story most definitely criticizes men who are constantly self deprecating about their looks, ironically most of them being old and cringing after little girls. It's not meant to be an injustice to the men, but to show their ugly perspective where they project their insecurities on a child that doesn't want to sleep with them.
I would jump for joy if in the book Sansa marries him for real in the end. That would tell Sansa has truly changed.
Tyrion is becoming a worse person by the chapter, if she would come to love the current Tyrion’s personality she would have some pretty messed up views on love.
You would jump for joy at a 13 year old and a 30 year old getting married?
Sansa didnt need to charge and her marrying Tyrion would be horrible. She was *twelve* in the books during this! He already SA’d her in this scene before his speech. Just because he didnt go through with grape doesnt mean hes not still vile. Shes not vain she didnt want to be graped by a man who helped kill her family.
I don’t mind all men retreats because women have them, but they don’t even have a program, counseling or events. Plus the marketing is very…spartan and not the movie Sparta, I mean the real history Spartans
I still ship them. despite the age gap. Its not their faults they were forced. I like to think when she older they found each-other again and something started with them with her as queen of the north
same! He really was her only partner who respected her and treated her with kindness. In my head, years later, they held a secret relationship. After all, as the Hand of the King, Tyrion would have reason to travel to the North often.
