- 5 Mistakes Beginner Skateboarders Make
Switching it up a little with this one. Of course these don't apply to everyone but they are definitely things I've seen beginner skaters deal with. Keep in mind, the things I talk about in this video don't just apply to ollies and kickflips. The same concepts can be used for learning any new tricks.
I hope that if you've dealt with any of these problems that this video can help you getcho mind right and focus!
Thank you for watching!
Thank you to Patreon supporter Jeff Bowring for helping me continue doing what I'm doing and getting me closer to my goal of making these videos better and uploads more consistent.

My coach always said, "Amateurs practice till they get it right and professionals practice till they can't get it wrong."
merf 97 Lol mine said exactly that and gave us 10 more laps before shooting and if the shooting wasnt good 10 more faster laps
merf 97 man you just made my life 10 times more positive
merf 97 thanks dude. Been burnt out for 3 months. I want to get back on learning tricks. This has made me learn to take it slow and remember why I started.
That’s what my percussion teacher in band says
merf 97 this is bullshit I haven't skated in 9 years and can get on a board and still hit every trick
Dude all I want is to skate down my driveway without breaking every single bone in my body.
Exactly😂😂💔💔
Get bigger wheels and hop off your board if u lose balance
Petes Hole not a Good Idea, you’ll fall forward and faceplant
If this kid cant skate down his driveway how tf is he gunna power slide or even use his heel or tail like fr think about the situation. Just thinking about how i learned
And if he has a normal driveway he aint getting enough speed to make hopping off dangerous
This is not just great skateboarding advice it's great life advice.
Seriously though!!!
Skateboarding is life
But, skate boarding IS life
Yea, a lot of people don’t skateboard cause they’re scared to fail and risk getting hurt/embarrassment. That’s definitely life
opposable thumbnail well skateboarding IS life tho
No. 1 sounds like what Bruce Lee once said:
"I fear not the man who practices 10,000 kicks at once, but I fear the man who has practiced one kick 10,000 times".

They can't do it though.. they just haven't tried
+max Ff can**
max Ff Yeah but not everyone likes to skate lol
dog rat until the do it they can't. Based in your reasoning I can run faster than Usain Bolt but I just haven't tried.
+Eugene Hunter you could not be more wrong hahah such an IDIOT! you have ran before, right? Then you know how fast you are and know you can't run as fast as usain bolt... these people have never tried to Ollie or even been on a skateboard so whose to say they can't ollie
Skateboarding is the dark souls of real life and each trick is it’s boss
So true, being a souls veteran teaches you the staple of skill in anything you do in life, you'll rarely be good at anything first go, but don't think too hard and keep up the repetition and you'll be a pro by your thousandth attempt, something like that anyway haha
Plin Plin plon
Haha that certainly changes my perspective on it
You a game journalist or sumn?
Who wants to co-op and help me beat this ollie
I'm just turned 36 today and haven't skated since probable early 2000's I jumped on one the other day and landed an Ollie, a kick flip, and a heal flip. If my old ass can do it. You can too!
Billo1281 you're never too old to skate!
36 is not old. Embrace your youth.
Age is a state of mind. Old man here as well. Been skating since the mid/late 80s. My problem is I skated half pipes and pools for the longest time, so when I eventually went to earn street tricks, I was like damn this is hard. Still can't do more than a few basic flips but still work on them when when I get the urge.
Marshall Dillon how old are u? 45 maybe?
46, and somedays I feel like it.
I don't even own a skateboard why am I here
Emo Flamboyant get one?
Emo Flamboyant buy a skate board
fostersikes because you will get one.
Did u buy it now already. It's been 7 months!
10 now. How’s your skateboard...?
I landed my first ollie today. Tomorrow I think i will ollie a 10 set.
Good job!
dont get bodied bro
Good job i bet your doing kick flips by now!
Only 10
Nice job try to practice Ollies for one day and the next day if you still get it first try, your muscle memory is v strong and you can move to advanced tricks but so far gj bro
this isn’t just fantastic skateboarding advice, it’s also great life advice. Point proven: skate is life.

Muscle Memory 👌
Confidence *Uhmm.....*
Yes, confidence so you are not scared to do your stuff

Not even kidding, try wearing a helmet, inee and shoulder pads. With those on you feel invincible or over protected, and you will go out of your comfort zone and can improve confidence

i've been skating and for like 5 years and i think every beginner should see this video. completely 100% agree with everything dude said. great ideo
about to get my first skateboard in a few hours ahhhhh
Haii how was it?
You still skate?
U alive or did u die skating?
U still skating or nah?
How did it go
better than you = shows pic of professional x games skater. worse than you = shows a pic of a scooter kid... lol
The last one is what I'm working on cause there's times when I compare myself to other skaters that are skilled and that just demotivates me
I know, right? I watch Aaron Kyro, and it just looks so effortless. But he's been skating for over 20 years, while I've only spent about 30 days actually on my board, he should be better than me! I record all my stuff, and honestly, when I'm editing my videos for upload, that help motivate me because I see little things to work on, and I just want to get out there and try again!
You and Aaron both inspired me to start skateing, I’ve started skating for almost a month now and I’ve found somthing that I can learn well and be progressing at, I love it ❤️
Great to hear bud keep at it and have fun 👊🤟🔥
43 just getting back into skating after 25yrs and some bad injuries. Appreciated your vid and sage advice. Ive been skating in my house (freakin slippery)and practicing on a board with no trucks in my room to gain muscle memory atm Trying to get my kids off computer games, only way is to lead by example.
All the best bro.im 35 and just started
brownpunk
How much progress have you made so far (I’ve Ben skating for 1 1/2 months)
@@charleswhitemarketing9288 hi man..just getting comfortable controlling thr board around empty carparks late at night..im very far to learning tricks to be honest but thats ok..im happy to take it slow..how about u?
brownpunk
Pretty much the same I’ve just been cruising around trying to Ollie here and there
I'm (almost) 28, doing the same thing, damn it feels good to skate again.
This applies to so much more than skateboarding
“Everyone’s goal is to learn a kick flip blah blah blah” my goal is to learn how to ride my board 🤣
Same
I got an ollie a few times after practicing 1000 times when I first got my skateboard a few months ago. I skipped one day, tried again and lost it. I gave up and haven't skated in a few months loll I'm so unmotivated but want to skate super bad at the same time
I would suggest skating with friends, or make friends at the skatepark!
I've been skating and got an ollie plus a few other skills (not tricks) whoo B^) >> I'm hesitant to go to the skate park, I might be in the way of experienced skaters..
just skate. fuck everyone else lol, just be mindful
Yuu guys are awesome thanks :-)
Jose Lino coconutna_mu
I learned how to Ollie today so I’m glad this came in my recommended
Nah I straight up just wanna Ollie up curbs lmao
Same, I learnt rolling off curbs so now Ollies
I'm probably never going to advance above an Ollie, it's just not what I want to do. I just like moving fast
i lost all my motivation
havent skated in a month now and im just a begginer have my olllies down and im halfway trough fs 180
edit: thank u for the motivation im going to go skate right now
Hey, keep going!
I'm a beginner too and just getting consistent with my ollies. I keep rotating backwards and i've fallen off the board so many times at this point. But the automn has come and there's less and less time to skate for me because of constant raining and temperature going down every week. But I go out and skate whenever I get a chance.
Just keep going, baby stepping even! And have fun while doing it! Because that's what matters!
just keep going im a beginner too and its taken me 5 months soo far to land a kick flip and i havn't given up.
Hey I've been at it for a year and I'm 40. up until now I pretty much only practiced my basic tricks stand still. Started hitting the pavement recently (pretty much in the literal sense) and falling all the time.
I do it for the fun though, and the key to that is to be alright if it doesn't work out. It's alright not to skate when you don't feel like it. As long as you want it you'll get it. Don't make it a competition. In skateboarding you don't have to.
Yellow Gamer Hey man I was the same. I've been skating for around 4 years but I was really casual about it and progressed really slow. The last couple months I got completely bummed out by skating and thought of quiting. But you can't. You can't give up. Like VL said, take a break when you need it, but don't give up. Even if you only skate once or twice a month, as long as you enjoy that time, then you're enjoying skateboarding.
Yeah Jed I agree. There are few things I enjoy doing in life (besides skating) I like playing music and painting, but as soon as the things you love become a responsibility or you're being pressured into doing it, no matter how much you love it you will hate it in the end after a surprisingly short amount of time.
It's the same for skating. If you force yourself and make it feel like a job you will hate it. This is all my own personal experience/opinion though, but I found if I skate only when I feel like it then I do much better than when I said I HAVE TO PRACTICE. And those callings come much more often if you let them happen organically too.
Bottom line is: Skate for yourself and no one else. Also, the skateboarding community is the most understanding and respectful community of that philosophy than any other field.
props to you guys that shred it, never made me feel bad about being old and a beginner, never.
that vid was really inspiring
Thanks for this video man! I started last year at 49 years old. I'm 50 and still at it. This was great because it's not that I am getting discouraged but I need to push myself a little harder and commit to learning to ollie. I can ollie a little holding onto a railing(gotta start somewhere)but need to start going for it! Your vids on that subject are great too. Thanks again and keep 'em coming!
Just read this in 2022 and it would be really interesting if youre still skating, i started out like 2 days ago and i fell and it felt like i broke my ass and my whole soul but i kept going a little and then i was a little discouraged to go out earlier this evening but i took my board and did it anyways, found a little spot too which was really nice!
2:16 Literally me yesterday
Hey bro I’m new to skating and your videos are just perfect to help get me started man thanks
I really needed this, have been trying to holly a small curb and felt like it was taking forever and still can't but i will try it tomorrow a million more times
Rodrigo Januário took me a bit to do it but once you do it once you can do it 1000 times after.
Ollie*
This video helped me during the times I was learning Ollie’s, thanks for this motivation video VLS skate!
I have to say, your overall positivity and attitude is so refreshing in a world full of ‘don’t be a poser at a skatepark’ videos. A great inspiration.
Sometimes I am just afraid of fall and I can't do some tricks, I just esitate, I don't know what to do
Yeah but in fact this summer I fell and I broke my feet, so I couldn't skate for a while and now when I have to try some trick I just can't move because I'm scared, but yeah, I will continue trying. I will learn how to fall, maybe it will help me. Thanks
idk asshole pad the fuck up and say fuck it
idk asshole how the fuck did you break YOUR GOD DAMN FEET? 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Devilsdabs 666 oh you know, maybe landed on their feet sideways, kicked the ground badly when they fell, idk doesn’t seem that hard to break your feet.
I WAS WATCHING THIS AND RIGHT WHEN YOU SAID JONNY GIGER HE UPLOADED WHAT?!?!?

i wouldnt consider myself a beginner but i still like watching all your videos! u explain everything straight up and simple. which is exactly what a beginner needs
This is not good skateboard advice..
.
This is great life advice..
Skateboarding is life

Outstanding video. It really hits close to home as a former skater who is getting back into it. I really appreciate your work.

This is my fav video!
BAPE
i actually learned every single trick from you and i just want to tell you that thanks man i really enjoy you bro
More people should hear about you. You are so motivational
Where can I find the beat and what’s the name of it ?
All the mistakes are all me. Holy crap
I couldn't agree more. Best advice ever! I've been doing all these mistakes for a year: landing a few ollies, then tried thousands of kickflips never landing a single one. I've done this for hours and hours, going crazy, losing my motivation. In the end it was more like "work" rather than "pleasure". I would just add one thing: don't stay in the same skating spot, especially when you can't land something, otherwise you'll start hating this spot.
Love the mindset concept, and the inspiration from seeing other people skate is what brought me here, 2 years old but imma take what I can get from it
I don't really practice, I just skate.
AndrewLiong thats great too. thats pretty much what stacy peralta and all those guys did. just skate.
Better then you:some guy with a trophy
Worst then you: a scooter kid
No hate pls
no luis mora is better :(
Great advice. I havent skated in about 5 years and it is so engrained into me that i can still do most of the tricks i learned over years and years of practice
This is the first video that he ever made and was super helpful thx u

Zetrah what trucks do have
Zetrah eBay board?
Zetrah that means, approximatelly, shit. Considering the huge amounts of variations there are in board, trucks and wheels size and materials that comes down to preference your board can't be that heavy that you're unable to learn.

I almost gave up. What made me come back and keeps me going is the fascination for skateboarding.

2. Pushing Mongo

4. Wearing cuffed jogger
