- Most Common Beginner Skater Problems
Today, we're going over some of the problems that I get commented, dm'd, and emailed the most. It seems that there are some very common things that a lot of newer skaters have issues with and so I try to cover the most asked ones in this video.
For most of these problems I have full videos that go a little deeper into the issues so I would recommend watching my how to's for ollies, kickflips, heelflips, and 180s.
Issues covered in this video.
Why can't I ollie straight?
Why do my kickflips/heelflips fly away?
Why can't I level out my ollies?
Why can't I get a full 180?
Why do I push in one stance but do tricks in the other?'
As always, thank you for watching and I will see you next time! :)

i accidentally filmed some clips at a low frame rate so the slow mo looks choppy :(
You are finnaly back, thank you
No problem dude! Your channel is still top quality!
Yo glad you’re back
Im so happy you're back. Your chanel has inspired me so much ❤️ What happend for like 5 months?
Finally back bro yey
As a beginner, It’s so refreshing to see experienced skaters fall when doing an Ollie.
i've been skating for years, and recently i rolled one of my ankles trying to ollie on flatground. then two days later i rolled the other ankle trying to do a nollie
Lmfao that's true
How??
@@SparksX18 lol broke my ankle while messing around with ollie, been there XD
This sounds so mean but it’s so true
missed you bro, thought you were never coming back
No 9-5 same
Yeah me either :/
Me too he is so underrated
Same

I literally can’t Ollie to save my life
Cat keep at it bro i had so much trouble at first it took me all summer to get mine down clean dont give up🙌🏽
i grinded my ass of for a week and had sore legs. my problem was my backfoot not springing from the ground after popping
That’s my problem too
1. Bend knees, pop the board
2. Slide front foot upwards to raise the nose
3. Lift your back foot ( very important this is how the board gets leveled out)
4. Land bolts
If you get good at this you can easily Ollie as high as you can pop your nose
It's just gonna take time, and it's not gonna be fun. Keep at it. Use a rail to lean on. It'll help
Last time you uploaded a video, I couldnt ollie properly. I landed my first kickflip yesterday and now youre uploading again
That actually takes a lot of work good job
gypsy chicken I like your username
I kinda lost motivation and haven’t skated since his last video. Any ways to start skating again
How long was he gone?
Well done!

The roads in my place are rough
One thing for beginners learing the ollie something that really helped me get them straight was when u set up your feet and pop, when u slide up drive your heel up as well
Dont only focus on your toes
Make sure your heel pushes as well
Maybe that helps
Blitz942 you solved my problem! Thanks a lot
@@Neurosoma576 awesome man
So glad it helped

I’m definitely trying this

@@noob-lo6mx thanks!
At some point, all skaters didn’t know what it was. Tony Hawk at one point didn’t know what an ollie was. Learn the vocabulary as best as you can, but don’t be ashamed to immediately not know what tricks are,
As a beginner I relate to that.
ollie is jumping with your skateboard
Skating is the best thing I have ever decided to do 🤞🤞😭😭

Always will be when I'm so young

@@kaksoispistedee3102 shut up and get a life 😒
I started skating around 4 years ago and haven't thought much about what it was like when I first began learning ollies and 180s. This video gave me a sense of nostalgia because I remember experiencing all of these problems. It took me so long to figure out how to keep my ollies straight. It took me weeks to get my 180s to rotate fully. SO many hours spent in carparks practising ollies and fs180s. I look back on that time fondly because I really thought that I wasn't good enough to learn those tricks, but now I have dozens of tricks and I look forward to the future when I learn dozens more.
i’ve had my skateboard for 1 day and you’re already my favourite youtube channel and honestly help so much!
Finally VLSkate is back I thought you were dead ore something haha
Maybe he became iron ore and someome dug him out.
IamMortui nah he’s diamond
Dead ores doesnt exist smh
It’s allowed to make mistakes haha
"It'll flick into outer space" Because of how serious your voice is, it makes it even more funny when you say stuff like that
Very helpful video thank you.
I restarted skating after 20 years and now I see in my case the mental is most important.
Now I really force myself to not visualize a bad landing like I used to do.
When you visualize/expect a bad landing, you get scared and you just don't want to try and land at all, so you send your board flying or land with one foot of or something.
Thank you so much for coming back. You were my favorite CZcams channel and still is. Keep up the videos! 👍
Wow your back! I started skating 3 months ago and your channel really helped me! Happy to see your still uploading! :)
Edit: wow this video was really helpful, I can't relate to a few things here and this can hopefully help me with them!
Just got my skateboard for christmas it's my first one thanks for helping me
i seriously like the way you speak! the pauses are very weirdly toned and for some reason i like!
You re back! hyped so nice to watch your videos I tried so many tricks because of your channel.
Great vid as always. The slow mo part at 6:05 is super useful.
Thank you for posting a video again this is my favorite skate CZcams channel
This is the best channel for beginners. This channel is the reason I'm getting into skating and is pushing me to go out and practice without fear of embarrassment
The tip of jumping before the board actually hits the ground is the best Ollie tip
I’ve ever gotten thank you.
We missed you man🖤
Damn I’ve progressed so far since the last time I watched you. Just watching cause I love you your content man
I've been skating about 17 years now and for some reason I still enjoy watching these videos.
So glad you're back! Your ollie video was the most helpful!
bro I fr missed u so much

Thank you for all the videos by far I thought you had the best instructionals I'm in my forties and after numerous injuries and muscle imbalances I'm migrating over to BMX so I'm able to walk in the coming years still following just wanted to say thank you for everything

Glad you’re back man I love your videos
Yo dont leave us hanging..we love and miss ur vids!
Also pls more beginer stuff
.not everyone here is Tony Hawk😅
You haven’t uploaded since LAST DECADE!!!
I love how chill your videos are
How about a "10 unusual tricks for advanced skaters" video? There are so many vids for beginners! Glad to see a new video😁
4:35 This is one of the most important tips for ollies imo
thank you so much i'm going to try this untill my legs die
Lets go!!!!!!!
Thank you for coming back
When everybody gets hyped when you upload it makes me happy
I’m a simple man, I see VLskate post, I click
New video: just started staking (rolling my whole leg in to a curb)
yo that advice for how to get a pop is so good and i've watched a LOT of videos where none explain it!
Thank you for all the input and tips. I love your vids, and your dog as well! ;)
Whenever I ollie I land on my board's nose. How am I able to fix that or stop myself from doing that?
Same problem here, although it's been getting better. I think I was overcompensating due to fear of falling backwards when landing. Try to keep your body straight above the board.
Just keep practicing you'll eventually find out why your having that problem I kept watching ollie tutorials but they didn't really help so I just kept trying to ollie and found out myself each time you mess up you get closer to knowing your mistake
@@thewirah1 sorry I didnt see this earlier, thanks for the advice!
@@justinward253 sorry for the late response! I couldnt find anything in videos either though. But yep you're right, I'm getting a little better now, I'm just trying to get over the fear of going to ollie on and off of objects
@@dmdn1512 same I cant ollie on or off anything, though I'll admit I haven't been skating these past 3 months I'll be back on the grind on march it's just been to cold for me lol
So I've watched your vid on the rolling ollie. My issue is I land on the nose
that's pretty normal just don't push down so hard with your front foot
That’s why the nose is bigger, to catch your foot
This was every one of my questions back to back. 👍
Hey! Am 42, and just started learning skateboarding. Quarantine hobbies ftw. Anyhoo, am subscribing to this channel, trying to pick up tips, and hoping I don't kill myself. Am currently working on the Caveman, 180 No Comply, and the Manual. Kinda got the Caveman, but definitely far, far, far from the other two. Wish me luck!
7:58 "good attitude"? What bout rob dyrdek? 😂 screamin when he cant land a trick
Taban and saying wtf Troy when he gets snaked
I can Tre flip I'm still watching this though 😀
Thanks VL. These were incredibly helpful.
your videos are awesome and watching them has helped me learn how to do better tricks.
Why can’t I put both my feet on the board when I push
I can’t get my Ollie’s straight so I just stick to front 180s 😂😂😂
And I cannot 180 in any way but can Ollie over 3 boards😂
I can’t ollie but I could form lazer flips , have most of the basics and rn I’m learning frontside heels :-)
@@bryanalmanza9296 makes NO sense😂

Thanks for coming back
I didn’t even know I needed this video until I watched it. Crooked ollies are my weakness. I’ll start working on those.
Omg thank you for coming back!! I'm a beginner girl skater and your videos help me with problems, keep me motivated, and overall entertain me!! Ur vids are quick and to the point, whereas other YT skaters take sooo long!! Love ur vids 😊
Bro, your videos make me wanna get into skating. Can't wait until quarantine is over so I get check out a skate shop and get a board
Skating is great! Just make sure what size you want and stuff like that. Can’t wait till you get your board!
I know all the corrections but i watch this to know how to explain to other beginners.
KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!!
I'm glad you still post
I turned frontside on ollies because of significant muscle imbalances PLUS the reasons you said . It took me a while to fix it.
Just got my board today so excited to start learning to ride
Yo what’s good man glad to see you’re back
Great video as always man! Keep up the great work
You’re back awesome love your videos
Welcome back and I feel that I gained experience but I can't exit the 50-50 grind consistently and can't land a kickflip. I can say that it is normal to turn the shoulders while doing an ollie and try to look at the direction of where you are going while trying.
I’m a beginner, I’ve purchased my first ever skateboard which should be here by the end of the week and I’m almost 22 your videos have really helped me :))
For the longest time i've been cursing my damn shoulders for my crooked Ollies. 4 months of trying later, still crooked. I was about to throw my skateboard in the trash. One video later and it turns out my stupid back foot was in the wrong position. Straight as an arrow ever since. Thanks VL!
I recently got into skateboarding and theses beginning videos help thank you
Hows skating so far?
Way more detail oriented video than Braille’s. Thank God someone finally gave a more in-depth explanation.
Nobody will probably care, and the comment will most likely be lost, but thank you VLSkate. Your a realy good skater, and you also seem to be a really good teacher too. Also... Thanks for coming back. Keep doing what your doing.
Good to see you back man!
i look up to this dude. He is just so chill.
4:25 this is the first time anyone on youtube iv seen anyway actually tell u when your in the motion of doing an ollie. that u don't have to press your tail all the way to the floor to do an ollie because that isn't going to make u jump. istg no one has ever mentioned when to jump and the whole ''practice before ollie'' like snapping down your tail and brushing your foot up the board wasn't the only components to doing an ollie so thank you very much for specifying i shall subscribe now
I’m not even a beginner but finally you post !!
Good video dude get the knowledge out there 👌 you got my support
Ive been watching you for about a week now so i subbed 🙂
Welcome back dude!!!!
I missed you, I hope you are doing well. Thank you for the awesome video. It definitely helped me and got me inspired again
Thank you for another helpful video. I really like your shoes!
