Toby Creation John Cardiel: “Am I a joke to you?”
I remember watching Tony Hawk land that 900 on TV. It was a very big deal, and i feel like we were all rooting for him. Watching him succeed was very inspirational even if you weren't a skater. The determination bridged so many gaps!
For ages it was known as a "hawk 900"
My dude has the most prestige name for the sport he does professionally - Tony Hawk. A literal Hawk with a board in Air.
Probably the most iconic thing ever done in skateboarding?
The best thing about skateboarding competitions is they usually be cheering for each other.
@@raggaeldestro8609 that’s funny you mentioned that, cause I just finished watching Hawks autobiography on HBO and his old man Frank(who was the father of NSA ramp competition) say the exact same thing back in the 80’s! The man was wise beyond his years.
22:56 dude this is incredibly INSANE i tried a 1260 without a board and i got so dizzy, i cant imagine how difficult it may be with a board in the air! This guy is a legend, it inspired me so much

And yet, according to his twitter, no one knows him by his face haha
I saw him on an Airplane once as I was boarding half asleep at 6am. He was looking down and I only saw the corner of his face. I’m glad I recognized him so quickly. I was able to take a blurry selfie with him because I was so nervous. He was really nice.
Blame Playstation for this.
How wouldn't we? that name was pushed through popular culture so hard during the 2000's

@@rotgutthebloated4730Yep, I know there is late but if you can response. How is going your skating experience? I was kinda interesed because I skate since a few months ago and is difficult. its true. I find frontside 180s just as simplistic, after years and years of practice, as an ollie. I can actually perform fs180s better than ollies. I'm 31 now. Well out of practice. In my prime, I definitely had some pretty fuckable fs180s.
Haha good joke i cant even do an ollie

I never get tired of watching this video over and over again, it's really amazing the way Tony Hawk explains every detail based on his huge experience at skateboarding

It's crazy how humble he is in explaining all these tricks considering how legendary he is
The fact that Tony hawk is still THIS GOOD at his age is insane. He's gonna keep going until he physically can't anymore I can tell
A German bodybuilder and international B-actor (Ralf Moeller) who is in his 60s was once asked how he is able to keep training.
His answer was: "Training is part of my life. Its like brushing my teeth. I wouldn't suddenly stop brushing my teeth on my 60th birthday either would I?"
LG age is just a number dude
age is mind over matter - if you don't mind, it doesn't matter.
Rodney Mullen is even better for his age
If it's part of the daily routine you'll be good until you physically can't do it anymore, yeah you might degrade over the years and most likely not win competitions against younger guy's but what's the point in quitting your life-long passion and legacy anyway right?
"I'm Tony Hawk, pro skater"
That's a repetitive sentence.
I'm Tony Skater, Pro Hawk

I like how they also show Tony failing when he tries his tricks, this shows that it's not as easy as it seems like in the clip where he succeeds. So people will see that even the greatest skater fails and they will not get demotivated when they fail themselves
Right! I have to admit, I was surprised to see him making so many mistakes. We get it in our heads that professionals are almost infallible but that's not true.

Skating is cardiovascular so that's probably why. Imagine doing cardio at lesst 4 times a week for over 30 years, it's pretty much what he did, he also did it without performance enhancers. He is probably crazy healthy on that side of things and it probably explains why he looks oddly young in some ways.

Also, as people get older, they are just less willing to risk injury since it could cause WAY more PERMANENT damage to their bodies!!! Now, every time it rains, I literally hurt EVERYWHERE I was EVER injured ALL AT ONCE! (Sad but true!) Dunning-Kruger effect
I feel when tony says "in my opinion" hes making new rules. His word is gospel
and to preemptively appease the trolls
Similarly, he's first to shut down anyone who thinks that anyone achieving tricks beyond his on 'Megaramps' and things are somewhat cheating. He sees skateboarding as one big thing, and takes no issue to saying that there are regions of it that just aren't in his field of expertise. He wasn't going to scoff at Tom Schaar having to use a big quarterpipe for his 1080. He respected it.

I love heelflips. Much harder to flip but much easier to catch. Hardest trick I've ever landed on flat was a varial but I've hit heels off stairs and frontside flips off on banks. @@shishi1079 I agree - these days!!! I skated el toro h.s. back in the mid to late 80’s early 90’s and can tell you stories about the el toro stairs back during skateboard jams etc. just cause people were there to witness back then doesn’t mean the stories stick or make it as “x person did this first etc” unless you’re x person or the pro name makes it in a mag or video and marks you as the first to do it.
I like that he’s honest about his attempts.
*THE GOAT OF SKATEBOARDING* 🐐 🔥
The difference between the master and the student is that the master has failed more times than the student has even tried
All skaters know it takes many attempts to do tricks to get that one perfect shot. You wont be perfect 100% of the time, that's the art. As hitanshu said. Failing to become as close to perfect. He can still do 90%+ of tricks out today, even if he messes up some he will take less time and mistakes to do 90% of tricks than normal skater even if they knew 90%+ tricks.
@@MrHeroicDemon He is also 90%more likely to get injured pusing the limits at his age. He is the greatest ramp skater of his time but he knows that a new generation will overcome him, thats why he prerecorded the 1260.
Lol i guarantee you he did it wrong intentionally for an example and is just writing it off as his mistakes for the humbleness
One of the few ppl alive who deserve the title *"Legend"*
I typed a comment that must have been left on another video, but that little wonder about half the way through is jaw jroppingly amazing.
I do audio production, love hockey and think our world's all overlap with the "outsider" vibe. Love to all these awrsome skaters and much love to eveyone watching this great video!
“And just remember, this is my personal interpretation of this challenge”
Said humbly by the Legend himself...
lol tony hawk is everything (including a legend) but humble
@@asdasd3383 What makes you say that? He always comes of as a down to earth decent guy
@@asdasd3383 He wouldn't have gotten to his level of skill w/o being humble. Period. Most people these days would blame the ramp, or their wheel bearings, or something stupid.
Like Jesus saying “this is just my personal interpretation on turning water into wine” or (earlier) tiger woods saying “this is just my personal interpret on playing golf” or Wayne Greysky “this is just my personal interpretation of playing hockey”
@@danielbell4007 I'd honestly stick to specifically the sports guys, rather than jesus, but yeah. All of them worked hard their whole life to obtain their greatness. All through humility and humbleness.
The way he explains everything is an art in itself. Sounds like he's been talking and teaching skateboarding for decades lol.
He is literally talking and teaching skateboarding for decades
He is literally. Tony Hawk is Legend in skateboarding.
I know, it’s so amazing, he’s never skated before
nice username
This.
I don't even skateboard and thought this vid was amazing.
Well explained. Great videos!
Can we just step back and appreciate that Tony still has a Phat Fs Pop Shove-it well into his 50's. Crazy! the man is one of the GOATs
"If that sounds difficult, it is." - Tony Hawk Truest statement ever about many things.

Really good editing of the video. Especially the counting of the spins - seeing "okay, this is 180 and now it's 360" was very useful.
I think it was the Varial 720 where the skater does a 720 but the board does a 900.
I had to count the board spin myself because that just seems beyond ridiculous for that level of complexity.
If only I were 30 years younger I’d try to learn this stuff.
@@dr.floridamanphd I did the exact same thing lol, first part of the vid I paused and went frame by frame

I played THPS2 as a kid and had a real skateboard back then but never learned how to ollie. (My friends did tho, I was just too scared to learn the hard way like them). It was such a memorable part of my life. So that’s how you do it; done by the legend himself my skateboard idol Tony Hawk.
What a legend of a person. Love this guy
since I was a kid.
“you’re using the force” so that’s how he does it

Of course he's Tony Wan-Kenobi
