Too late but wondered if you could have put the Econ body on your old 4wd Merc and flogged it to a farmer/contractor as a fertiliser spreader.
Salt and metal are not a good combination. That is why we do not have a gritting service during the winter months. But I don't think it will be that bad with this chassis. Another German quality truck.

Where do you live?
I live in the Netherlands. There is also a gritting service there. But I meant that the company I drive for does not have a gritting service. I drive a tipper that can be converted into a spreader. But a conscious choice by the owner is not to spread salt because of the rust.

Those gritter lorrys must suffer badly with rust from all that salt they spread! Thats why the councils dont hold on to them very long. Mileage is very low as they sit in council yards most of the year doing nothing.
