But for me it’s always good to revisit the old games again. I bought the same games as you did also. I bought Zelda 1 and Alttp. Imagine Super Paper Mario being remastered for the Switch

2:25 You ask regarding remakes and ports to the Switch, "Where does it end?" I say keep it coming and never let it end. Bring everything over, I skipped the WiiU and love the ports they've done there.

I can understand that honestly if you played it already. Plus it's probably coming next year in 4K on Switch 2.

You're entitled to your own opinion. But a lot of your reasoning confuses me.
When it comes to Nintendo re-releasing their old games over and over, I agree it can be annoying. However, with this game specifically, it's a very beloved game, it's a game that's hard to play officially because this game would for a while cost $130-150 and on average by at least $100. It's never ever been re-released, it was originally released on a failed system, and this isn't a simple port, or a basic remaster, it's a full on from the ground up remake of the original.
Second, you do realize we're nearing the end of the Switch's life, right? Nintendo confirmed the existence of their next system. You shouldn't expect many new games besides a couple smaller titles because the system is on its way out. At the end of a console's life cycle, it's normal to see remakes, remasters, and smaller scale games instead of big new games.
I understand you want new games. I do as well, but I support these remasters and remakes because it gives me the chance to check out games I never played before.

This is one of my favorite games of all time, so I knew I was going to. All the new music (some of the chapters are more than 50% new music) and expressive characters have me raving about it. This isn’t Mario 3D All Stars again and there was a lot of effort put in to the game.
That said it should be $40, and it’s definitely not going to make you a fan if you aren’t already. If you’ve never played Super Paper Mario for the Wii, it’s a platformer RPG combo that might be your style.

I think with your point on the rereleases it’s been a lot more common this year or so mainly because all the development has moved over to the next console coming next year so these remasters etc are just to fill the release windows between now and then and tbh I’m fine when it’s older games like 15 20 years ago as at that point it’s a whole new generation of fans. I started with wii and missed GameCube so this was my first time playing and loving this game so far, I could have got original through back compat but never did and the now hd remaster remake I’m happy I waited as it looks a lot nicer. Straight up 1 for 1 ports no improvements is when I’m not happy with a rerelease

I understand how you feel but I have the og GameCube version and I wanted to play the remake because I know it’s a better version of it but I still keep mines for souvenir, also I’m not a rpg guy too but I love Earthbound, Super Mario RPG, and Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door and those were great games too.

I do like to play remakes if they offer more than just a new coat of paint but I agree that we need more new games. It is getting old getting more remasters and remakes nowadays.

I have bought so many games especially compilation of arcade or home console games that it isn’t funny. I just want to play on the current console even though between me and my wife we have a lot of consoles in our collection.
One of my favorite game series is Castlevania which I have bought across the Wii U and 3DS (don’t get me started on that buying it on each colsole!) so I don’t mind that at all. I totally understand your point of view and I’m not much of an RPG person, but RPG elements in say a first person shooter (like Borderlands) is a bit different for me along with Kingdom Hearts which is an action RPG. I really could not get into Final Fantasy at all. I’ve played this Paper Mario game and beat it. The only reason I want to get this for the Switch is because I can play it on the go. I do love the Paper Mario series so that’s just from my perspective.

I respect your opinion because even though i’m a fan of rpg games there’s a lot i am not a fan of & i hate it when i tell people i don’t like something and they give me “how do you know you don’t like it if you haven’t tried it?” When I hear that i want to scream and punch something. I just wish people would respect my decision and leave it at that. I never played the original version of thousands year door & I don’t think I will play it since I don’t know what the game is about because i’ve regretted getting games in the past and I don’t want to do that again

Hey man, I don’t blame you. I was looking forward to Paper Mario TTYD. Right up until I heard that the game was censored. That’s the reason why I’m not buying this remake. And besides, Nintendo really needs to not only make new games for their IP’s, they also need to make new ip’s as well.

The one game I bought over and over, the original Sonic the Hedgehog. I have it for GameCube, GBA, DS, Wii, Switch, PC, my iPhone. At least the PC version is forever since Steam actually included the ROM before they removed it in favor of Sonic Origins. I bought it for my iPhone, just so I can have it on the go without relying on bringing a handheld with me.

I mean noone should be shocked with all the remasters. Companies have been doing this since the PS4 and Xbox One came out and this is Nintendo's final year for Switch. It was inevitable that they were gonna release a bunch of remasters for its final year. They got all the power out of that system they could.

  • @Geekaloompa

I understand why you have this opinion and you're honestly not wrong about it. Some people buy remake after remake because the original consoles & their game cartridges don't last forever. I had stopped playing Pokemon when Violet/Scarlet was revealed to be the worst clunky glitchy game in the history of Game Freak and also because Pokemon its too repetitive and is more directed towards younger children. I love it when Nintendo gives us a remake once in a blue moon because it gives us all a chance to keep playing old classic games on new modern hardware.

I think re-releasing a game maybe spiff up the graphics, update the art but up the price or only rerelease it and only updated controls and keep everything the same and up the price is crummy marketing, just play the original but people want spiffier new graphics, tighter spot on controlling. More...more...more, i want, i want, want.

I totally get your point here - I love RPGs but paying Nintendo for rereleases with minimal effort is a bummer. I’ll just play on my modded GameCube. I am all for remakes though a la Links Awakening. Also we can all be Nintendo fans and like different styles of games : )

No hate here brother. I can see where you're coming from. I picked this game up day one, mainly because I never had the opportunity to play on the GameCube, and tbh... not wanting to pay nearly 200 bucks on ebay😂. But so far its been pretty enjoyable.

I don't blame you and I respect your opinion. If you have the Gamecube version already, you're not really missing much. This game is really good if you never owned a Gamecube or the game itself, and since those are pretty expensive to come by (the gamecube game, more so), it's good for those who can finally enjoy it on a modern platform.

I love the original game, but I skipped this one too. For me it was when I found out that the game ran at 30 FPS. Whenever I express that online, Nintendo brown nosers tend to fight me on this point, but *ITS A REMAKE OF A 20 YEAR OLD GAME THAT DOESN'T RUN AS WELL AS IT DID 20 YEARS AGO,* and they're charging 60 dollars for it! That's absurd! The most common defense I hear is that they updated all the environments, so I shouldn't expect the aged hardware of the Switch to handle 60 FPS. To that I say *THAT'S ABSURD TOO!* It's absurd that they released a console that's as underpowered as it is, that it can't even handle to visually update a 20 year old game while retaining performance. Heck, if I have too many flowers in my Animal Crossing village, my game drops to 15 FPS. Why are people defending this?
The Switch released with a Tegra X1 chip when the Tegra X1 was already about 2-3 years out of date. It's all these Nintendo fanboys that make excuses for everything that Nintendo does, all while tossing them money, that makes Nintendo complacent. It's exactly why they never fixed the Joycon issue, exactly why they had the balls to sell people cardboard, exactly why they feel like it's okay to constantly release underpowered hardware, exactly why their online sucks, and exactly why they feel like they can release a compromised remaster like Paper Mario TTYD. No one ever votes with their wallets, Nintendo keeps taking advantage. In 2022 Pokemon Scarlet and Violet was the biggest mess of a Pokemon game to ever release, yet it was the best selling in history. If that doesn't tell you about the state of affairs, I don't know what does.
