    The University of South Africa has been told by their supreme court this month that Afrikaans must be offered as a language for studies still! Yeaaassss! At the end of the day, it is a cultural Human right!
    Besides, English is all right but has been overated.for years; I lived in the USA for 12 years and the UK for 20 years now and love the American and English languages for their specialities like some commerce, PBS channels, some democratic principles, business meetings, self improvement etc...
    BUT English does not solve problems or brings a balanced society each time: look at the division in America and strong racism still having been created, as an example, by some extreme Trumpism (and many folks follow that still);
    Plus big American companies like Amazon to Apple and Facebook even Microsoft not sharing back enough their wealth with Humanity and ecology...As.for the UK with Brexit (althought I understand why) and huge problems, nationwise in bad management in many firms and overworking so many people shows that.
    Je parle français, English and American, español de Mexico y Costa Rica tambien...and am attempting the cool Hebrew language as another main language now BUT gotta say tough., Afrikaans is FASCINATING sounds and grammar wise as it is indeed quite user friendly to start with...compared tothe Chinese or Arabic even Hungarian languages to start with...
    Anyway also as a fact then: isn't it right that English has been a colonial tool from the 1700's to the mid 1900's? NO ONE can deny that. Anyway, we are in 2021, use the languages to heal, communicate and to create balance in your country. The choice is yours.
    Afrikaans (and other well used African languages) is needed to for different manners of thinking/cultural wisdom (for the good points of course) that English cannot replace to start with. Interesting that right now, and not just white people by the way, Afrikaans is still spoken as a first and second language by 17 million people! (as of 2020)

      People seem to forget that afrikaans is spoken by more black and coloured people than by whites.

      American isn’t a language they are mutually intelligible to one another and I don’t think anyone would believe that a language alone can create a wonderful society. What you said though about Afrikaans though is completely true it is a human right no one should have their language suppressed

      @@xi7837 Merci for your reply: very cool...as for American sure with English it is quite intelligible but different enough still as there are many phrases/words/colloquial expressions that are not used at all in British English...I should know as I lived 12 years in the USa and 20 in the UK...

      Afrikaans isnt a need but only a way to decrease many childrens marks its worthless as it has no use for many....learners should be given more than just Afrikaans as an option but infact local and international languages which actually come in good use .and thats facts Afrikaans is just a mere problem which is in the way of many childrens exceeding marks.
