One thing that's insane about this plane and the larger C-5 is that they have so much power that even fully loaded they can go almost vertical, and can take off in such a short amount of time for being a large plane

I worked for the telephone company at McDonnell Douglas in Long Beach where the C-17 was developed. I remember going into the hanger where they did testing on the wings and they snapped them. They had hydraulics attached at many points on the wing and pulled them upwards to simulate the weight that would be on them. They had to completely redesign them to fix that issue. We had a microwave shot at the top of that hangar building and you don't realize how high that tail is until you are above it over 50ft on the stair case just to the side of the aircraft. On one of the earliest test flight they did a 380K lbs. takeoff in 1200 feet. That's less than a quarter mile folks. It's a great aircraft but, I think it must have been budget overrun that ultimately killed it.

Nice. I've seen 3121 many times. It's been a longtime resident at ED attached to the 418th FLTS. I believe it's fully outfitted with sensors along the surfaces. In fact, numerous years ago I watched them do test landings on the lake-bed with it, which basically creates a cloud you can see for miles. The wind out there is pretty much standard. That's to say... It really sucks. The entire valley gets that.

I've gotten to fly in one of these with my ROTC unit at March Air Reserve Base and the sounds used for this model are pretty good. The cockpit is pretty good too. I could be wrong, but I think each engine on the C-17 produces 44,000 pounds of thrust. It also has the capability to takeoff and land on a, and I could be wrong about this too since it's been a little while since I was last with a C-17, a 3,000 foot runway. My dad used to be a Loadmaster for the C-17 before he retired from 22 years in the Air Force, and he once told me that the Globemaster can carry one M1 Abrams tank and a little weapons trailer. They used to show off the C-17 's abilities during airshows until one crashed, but it was so awesome watching them do demos during airshows. If I ever join the military, I would want to be a pilot for the C-17 Globemaster
