Everybody talks about the beaches along the Mediterranean, but these beaches were absolutely incredible to watch. I can't imagine how much more beautiful they are in person... Stuart, thanks for sharing!
The water is too rough to swim, that's why the Med is second to none. You could swim even when the weather is not that great...
@@AdamSahr-cj4kf I love swimming in swell, i would much prefer a rough beach to the med.... I prefer wild beaches compared to beaches with resteraunts and bars etc... so i guess it depends what you prefer
which beach is the one they are sufer at?
Yes Asturias is very beautiful..PUXA ASTURIES!!..Saludos💝
i lived on mediterranean for 31 years and it's not what you think, its a stupid dessert with no live in anymore because of tourism and water privatization, beaches are full of hotel people shit and hot is raising as hell, no more water on the mountains, thats not the same since everyone started to theft us, thanks god for let me live on asturias now, i know how we lost our natural life here and i will help to do not repeat the same mistake of my native land here
Lovely vídeo Asturias is the origin of Spain ,very good to show that Spain is much more than Andalusia and the mediterranean costas
Spain existed since 218 b.c. Before all of Spain was called Iberia.
Gorgeous and beautiful place for lovers of rainy weather. 💕
My grandfather was born in the tiny village of Navia in Asturias. I'd love to visit too.
I live in Asturias, it is great but now I am in my house by cov19.

God willing, moving there this February. I'm a Gutierrez, 3rd generation separated from Spain to Costa Rica. Now finally going back to my true roots. And I came to find out my Family name originates from Austurias. Thank you Spain Speaks for these wonderful videos.

I lived and worked in Gijon 1998 and still say to myself when I see the costas ah Northern Spain for me.
I used to take the bus from Gijon to Madrid for the views
And the train ride through Asturias was nice also

Hi,
Where are you moving from ?
Best wishes to you.
I love the north of Spain, especially Asturias and Galicia. Galica reminds me of Minho, in Portugal.
@@jblondon1327 Of course I am! When I'm in a good mood I can be gentle and respectful. In my comments I 've always said that I loved Galicia, I feel home there, and many Galicians love Portugal as well. And surprise, surprise, I like most Spaniards, exception made for the those who are always criticising Portugal and the Portuguese for no apparent reason. I bet you are missing my toxic comments! LOL. Saludos desde Setúbal!
@@jblondon1327 It´s funny, isn't it? After being so "nice" to each other, now we are friends?! Take care and take good care of your family. How things have changed, I´m confined to home, working online.
@@jblondon1327 True, we should be friendlier to each other, we have the same origins. Hopefully this crisis will teach us a lesson: to be more tolerant, helpful and kind to the others, yet our wicked side is always stronger. Are you still working outside? You must be very careful as the worst is still going to happen. Saludos!
@@jblondon1327 Are you the same JB whose comments I hated not long ago? I'm so surprised, my mouth wide open, looking like a moron! Jajajajaja (Portuguese translation: Ahahahahaha). I´ve always looked at Galician people as brothers/sisters. I have already visited several places in Galicia and I loved them all. Sometimes I watch TV Galicia, and have the chance to see how similar we are. I hope to visit the region once again. Yes, I've travelled to several countries: besides Spain, I've been to Britain, Italy, Luxembourg, France, Romania, the USA., Belgium ... And I agree with you - southern Europeans are way friendlier and respectful than those from northern countries. In Germany, you seem to be invisible, especially if you don't speak German (which I don't), I liked France a lot, people were nice, perhaps because I speak French fluently. I could go on and on...
Time to go to bed. Saudos, amigo gallego! (correct me if I'm wrong!)
@@jblondon1327 Portugal used to be part of Spain (Hispania) way back. The same with Gibraltar and Andorra.
Soy de Puerto Rico, pero mi bisabuela era de ahí, love it
Cheers Stuart. It's very nice to see this part of Spain and to see you enjoying it. That style of coastline pretty much stretches along the entire north from Galicia to the east of the Basque Country where it borders France. If you had said you were in Cantabria nobody would have guessed the difference. I completely agree with your assessment of the region. My wife's aunt lives in Asturias and has come face to face with a bear near her home. Nice property on the coast will be very expensive but we must not forget the wonderful mountainous interior where property prices are far cheaper but where facilities are sparse and remote. One of the reasons why I love the Asturian coastline is that it reminds me very much of my homeland of Wales. We have fantastic beaches which are untouched by commercial development because they are owned by the National Trust and cannot be built on. Harlech beach in the north with Snowden and Harlech castle (Unesco) in the background has to be seen to be believed. Rhossili Bay in the south was voted the best beach in the world a couple of years ago. I encourage people to Google image them. I mention them because a lot of the Spanish coast is ruined by a lot of revolting development which has wrecked the balance of nature and is horrendously ugly. Therefore it's great to see these gems in the north. I love the north of Spain and it brings home the enormous regional variety of Spain because it bares no relation to other parts of the country which are equally wonderful in different ways.
Agree 100%.. I love northern Spain and also visited many times some of the places you mention in Wales. In fact I'll be there in a few weeks but across the way in Pwllheli.
Wow! So Besutiful place!.
I'm one of those ex-pats who's been living in Avilés, a smallish town about 30 km north of the regional capital, Oviedo, for nigh on 35 years. I made a living first teaching Engliish and then translating (even on a couple of ooccasions from he lotcal Bable dialect). 1've no wish to return to England. They tell me there's another English person living in the town but I don't know any other Brits.

Preciosa Asturias, en especial Gijón y Cudillero, de dónde surge parte de mi familia vikinga...
Vikingaaaa???
@@viveydejavivir770 me explico. Saludos.

If you visit the traditional coal mining villages of the Nalon/Caudel valleys you'll be even more surprised at the similarities to Wales The miners have their choirs, slate-roofed cottages and the people from Mieres even go so far as to speak the local dialect with a Welsh accent.

What time of year did you visit? We will be visiting in September.
Since Asturias is in the North would the weather be a bit more similar to say Ireland or even Southern parts of the British Isles?
The northern coastline of Spain is very much like the coast of Wales and so is the weather. Unpredictable and wet for much of the time.
@@jblondon1327 I was fortunate my parents took me to Europe several times as a child throughout the 80's. We mostly flew to London and drove to the countryside. I've only been to Spain once back in 1991. We went to Madrid and drove south to Gibraltar. We never went to the North which is where I really want to go.
@@jblondon1327 Close to the sea is just as you say but inland in Asturias and close to the mountains it can get quite cold and snowy in winter
North of Spain is more like Brighton. Rainy weather troughout the year but with some sunny days in summer. Temperatures in coastal areas are higher than in UK of course, but colder in mountains, very close to the coast in Asturias.
I'm from Galicia and is very similar.
Asturias weather is similar but not the same as, say, Ireland. I spent two summers there as a child, and a school year as a teenager. Weather here in Asturias is about 5º-7º warmer all year around, and rain is a little less common, also the weather is more predictable. In the coast at least. In the 1.400 m high mountains things are completely different of course. I would say the coastal area of Galicia has a more similar weather to Ireland or SW England

Have you noticed the beaches in Asturias clean? Because I am living in Baleric islands at the moment and unfortunately is they are not.

Asturias beaches are quite clean. Partly because of the lack of massive tourism. From an Asturian, you are very welcome, but please keep it secret to the masses 🤫 You know, it´s always raining here, water temperature is freezing even in august, there are wolves and bears wandering all around...

Also to anyone planning to visit, come during the summer if you want to swim because the rest of the year the weather is quite cold!
Sorry if I made any mistakes, English is clearly not my first language lol
If you want any tips or advice on what to visit here just leave me a comment!
Your English is great! I just returned from a village near Llanes (Porrúa) and Gijón. I’m ready to go back!
Is it normally warm enough, really, to be on the beaches now, in the middle of March?
Also, cheaper than Madrid means...? I’m looking for apartment dwelling on a retiree’s income.
Ruth Slone I haven’t been there since ‘04 and it was in the summer, but based on how mild it was there then, I can’t imagine it being too warm in March, probably not too cold though. Central and especially southern Spain I found to be much warmer.
Ruth don't expect to go to the beach daily not even in summer, you can not relay on the weather forecast either, you may have days here and there from Abril to October to go to the beach but water will be freezing. We use to go to the beach from May to September, and many days it is imposible because is cloudy, or windy or rains. On the bright side we don't have extrem weather, not for cold, hot or rain.
You can expect the daytime maximum around 14-15°C in the coldest month and 23-24°C in the warmest month. In winter it's a lot warmer than the south coast of the UK. You will never shovel snow in the winter or will need air conditioning in the summer.
@@jgoitializarralde6935 Just politely mentioning that this applies to the coastline, while the inner / montanious lands are much colder and snowfall is not unusual.
Where are you walking? I was wondering if that was allowed.. interesting....the single lane motorway
