Thank you so much to visit Oviedo. I am from Turkey but lived one year in Oviedo as a Erasmus student. Oviedo became my second hometown. As the video said; Oviedo is the most cleanest city in the World. you can see people that washing Street at night even it is raining. Another point is that Asturian people are always proud of being Asturian. That's very nice. Because of this Asturian people take care their cities like their child. If i had a chance to born again, i would choose to born in Oviedo. I love you my city OVIEDO.

Fond memories of Oviedo as it was my first plane flight abroad in 1987. I spent 15 days there without knowing any Spanish, and as a black man from London it was a whole new experience. I loved it, I had an exceptional time. I travelled to Los Picos, Covadonga, Gijon, and a whole lot of smaller coastal villages. I went back a further 2 or 3 times doing some cycling from Belmonte to Oviedo. I've lived in Málaga, Andalucía for 16 years but the further north you go the cleaner and less noisy it is. ❤️🙏🏿👏🏿

I've been to Oviedo and I must say that I fell in love with the city. The old town and the cathedral area were my fave parts of the city. Gascona Street is were all the cider pubs and restaurants are in. Very atmospheric especially when there are bag pipes playing by the street. The pre-romanesque churches up the hills were awesome and the downhill hike from there to the city with the snow-capped mountains just slightly beyond is exhilarating. Oh yes the food is delish!

Notice the closed off porches and fronts on the apartments downtown. Probably to keep the rain and cold out. It’s amazing the differences between the different towns/cities and regions of Spain. Not a huge country but more cultural diversity within 50 miles than you’d find at least around here in upstate NY.

Also, make sure (this is the first video I've seen by you so maybe you have already) to visit Covadonga. It's about an hour and a half drive from Oviedo, and it's where King Pelayo took Spain back from the Moors in the early 700's (714 I think?). There's a 1,300 year old Basilica, a grotto, and shrine

Great video stuart, I do like northern Spain and Oviedo looks lovely, I didn't think Madrid was that untidy but I suppose you live there and have compared both cities. The local councils clean up teams all over spain seem to be first rate. Food up north is a big feature of life, so much so that in most towns all over spain you can find restaurants devoted to asturian, galician, Basque food. It's always a fascination with me how they live in apartments, perhaps if the same was to be encouraged in the UK, ie, using up all the space above shops, it may halt the high street decline,
Look forward to your next video

    Hi, Stewart!
This video was really excellent and different from others we are used to seeing about small cities. And as it is your habit you gave us a balanced view of what you are presenting to us. To sum it up: Beautiful architecture; small-to-medium size city; conspicuously clean; nice weather (not suffocating or to the extremes as in other parts of Spain); good cultural & cuisine life; attractive parks and monuments; surrounded by hills and mountains & close to the sea; and nice people --not full of the arrogance of big-city dwellers. Congrats to you for your Spanish: clear pronunciation and perfect sintax. Don't listen to people who always see "un pelo en la sopa" --as an old Spanish saying goes. You always try to be objective and rational. You do this for fun not for tourist purposes. Thoroughly agree with you: Oviedo is the perfect place to live in Spain given all the good pros you stated. Nothing is perfect. I particularly enjoyed very much this new great vid! Just keep going like that!

I don’t know if it would be too much of a change from your usual style but it would be great in my opinion if you were to do a food segment wherever you go. As far as I know, Allen complimented the city of Oviedo when he was granted a 'Principe de Asturias' Award. A year after that the statue was set as a sign of gratitude. Hola! I will be visiting Spain in July and your video of Oviedo has convinced me to visit this city and Asturias. As for the definition of clean and how Oviedo got its recognition for that, it really is about how the city is managed and run. And not forgetting the efforts of the locals, of course. A few cigarette butts doesn't put into doubt about the 'cleanliness' of a place. Behind the scenes, there are systems that have been put into place to make a place competitive-ly clean which are not in public view. Meanwhile, good job for this video!

One of your best videos. Congratulations. We learn a lot about the city. I especially liked the way you recorded the conversation about asking for directions and put the actual dialog on the video. The good part about eating in the north of Spain is that you get good, dark bread. So much of the bread in the center and south is white, tasteless and nutritionless. Oviedo is in fact a nice city and very livable. Heading east you have the Picos de Europa and Santander, while heading west you have the coastal ports of Asturias and the equally beautiful coastline of northern Galicia.

Indeed. Cash converters originated in Perth , Australia.
But those Canary island palms, which by the way are by far the most popular palm trees around the world were not brought back from South America.
Canary island palms as the name suggests are from said Spanish islands.
    Hence the name.
Been to Oviedo and thought it was a reasonably nice city. Nothing out of this world to be honest.
Asturias is about the country side like the spectacular picos de Europa and incredible historic little towns such as Canvas de Onís and Covadonga.
The Cantabria coast nearby is absolutely stunning as well.

The beaches are great especially in Cabo de Gata national park and the green houses certainly aren't in the centre of town and are so different to where I'm from they are actually an interesting aspect of the area and a huge contributor to the food production of Spain. As for your drug reference if you're looking for that sort of thing it can be found anywhere, it's not my thing so perhaps a little blind to that and it's never been an issue I've had to deal with or encountered. I think if you want to find the negative in any place you live or travel you certainly can. As for this region the food is amazing the locals are warm welcoming and friendly the area and city is full of history and a strong sense of culture and Almeria is not on the hit list of the mass tourist trade making it little more genuine and real. As I travel more of Spain I'm certain that there will be other places I will love but Almería is certainly worth a look and is off the well beaten tourist route.

People see with their minds and not with their eyes. Most folks that host travel channels on CZcams are wise to this and they paint the picture that you have already envisioned in your mind about a certain locale. The videos they craft are produced and edited to give you what you want to see and hear. Stuart is more detached and analytical when it comes to exploring various locales, he see with his eyes and not with his mind. For example, in this video , he notices the cigarette butts on the sidewalks.
This is what I'm looking for , namely an unbiased opinion of Spain. Stuart stays true to his convictions , he tells I like it is rather than telling people what they want to hear and showing them what they want to see. This is so refreshing from the multitude of other travel channels where the hosts repeatedly extol the splendiferous ethereal "wonders" of a particular locale while overlooking its flaws.
Personally, I think Stuart is heading down the right path with his CZcams channel. We're living in age where the world is becoming more "flat" so to speak and thus the world is truly one's oyster. More and more people are shopping around for various places across the globe to travel, retire, work, live than ever before and they want to understand the nuts & bolts of living in a particular foreign country. Anyway, the point I'm driving at is that Stuart provides value rather than appeal to people's natural proclivity for aestheticism.
And after viewing a dozen or so of his videos, I've got a far better idea of what it will take to live and prosper in Spain. Perhaps others don't appreciate the true value that he provides but I do. And just for the record, seldom do most folks provide any value at all, they're worthless.
    Thumbs Up Stuart !!

The Spanish mopped out a large amount of north and south and Central America. And one of the persons in Spanish did upon landing here was Lee everything out properly. I had to smile about the dog no dog poop yes people that are descendants of the people from mysterious love dogs but they don't like the messes they leave. This is literally where my family came from hundreds of years ago. But I now understand why they settled places where there were mountains at as well. The descendants of the people that came from here live on in New Mexico to this day and parts of Colorado

Certainly a part of Spain I want to discover, that and the Basque country, need to look at trains and hotels from Madrid and dates when the towns/cities have something going on. If you went around Madrid around Easter 2019, it was pretty dead in the center. The rain probably frightened off the religious processions also. I went to Spain in the summer of ‘04. Spent about two weeks in Oviedo and two weeks in Sevilla, along with a few days in Madrid and a couple of days traveling between Madrid, Oviedo and Sevilla. I liked Asturias overall, but the weather seemed odd for the summer, as it wasn’t very warm, it was overcast and rained a lot, and it got cool at night. In Areas south of Asturias it got much warmer and sunnier. I have to say that traveling into and through Asturias and also Cantabria was nice and at times breathtaking with the mountains and other scenery. Picos de Europa (we stayed I think in Potes) was something else. Nightlife in all of these places was at least interesting, the coolest and liveliest (and latest) of night lives being hands down in Sevilla. All you need to know is Calle Betis and you’re set. Taking the train from Oviedo to Gijón was a fun outing, and like you alluded to, everywhere you went sidra was the drink of choice, and it was always good. Tapas like queso manchego and jamón serrano were always good. Never really cared much for the tortilla or paella though. With Oviedo, there are a lot of hills, and not the best public transportation (there are buses, or you can take a cab, but they don’t go everywhere) plus, at least when I was there, there were a LOT of very old people all over the place, so I can understand the cars being downtown to an extent. Overall, I preferred Madrid and Sevilla and their climates to Oviedo and the Asturian climate. There are hills in Madrid too, but not as bad as up north, and you don’t have to travel far to find what you need. Other places I liked (for what they were at least) were Toledo (nice old town), Segovia (another nice old town with a cool ancient aqueduct running through it), Leon (another old town lol) and Salamanca (considered a college town, but also a cool old town). If I had to pick one of these towns (haven’t been to Barcelona or other major towns that I can think of), it would have to be Sevilla. Not just for the awesomely cool nightlife, but also for its beauty and culture. If it weren’t so hot there in the summer, it might be the perfect city, or close to it.
