      What horror needs more of imo... So many demons these days in most modern horror movies and in general end with the demon screwing over the protagonist but at the end of the day we need more darkly wholesome stories where after killing off several characters the lead is spared and this leads into a friendship where the protagonist decides "I am going to give my new bud some souls" Why can't this be a thing... most of the time it just ends on a downer.. no friendships just as a weird subversion? Yeah okay Hollywood.. way to be predictable and formaliac

    The theme of violence really hits home once you do some research on red caps. If I am not mistaken (mythology geek, but not Irish so corrections are welcome), they got their name because they soak their caps in spilled blood, and according to some stories, if their caps ever dry down they die. Meaning, they sustain themselves on bloodshed - the movie gave a nice nod to it with the blood offerings. The myth itself comes from border areas, where disputes over land allegedly kept the red caps sustained.

      @@baintreachas I reject the assertion of vampires and werewolves being fae, but agree that there's an oversaturation of them (as well as of zombies, even though they aren't fae). But not all fae are Irish, and if you want to yell at someone about them getting details wrong, yelling at _fans_ of that type of horror/filmmaking isn't going to do much good- go yell at the producers of them instead. If you want to have an actual conversation and express yourself without the anger and verbalize why it makes you angry, that would probably be an interesting conversation. it's difficult to convey that kind of non-verbal language in pure words, but clearly, i missed the mark in this case, which is on me. sorry for that. it's the stupidest way to make someone else's day - the day of a complete stranger, no less, no doubt miles away - that little bit more momentarily unpleasant. i don't know you, and our paths would never have crossed, and yet, i have managed to fail you, as well as myself

      XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
      though i do feel the need to point out - 1) i did say not all fae are irish, which is why i said ¨if you mean all fae, and not just irish fae.¨ maybe i'm misreading, maybe you misread, which is perfectly understandable
      2) personally, i don't necessarily subscribe to ¨vampires and werewolves are fae¨
      (especially as vampires are actually seen in cultures all over the world organically, so i do actually take quite a bit of umbrage with people who claim any particular origin to them, or treat them as monolithic, you know? especially when most less common versions of vampires are objectively way more sick. i've a filipino cousin who scared the shit of out me that way as a kid, 10/10, would recommend. perhaps the same could be said of werewolves, i wouldn't know, but...)
      ...i do know that in the specific cases of ¨what the average, modern native english-speaker thinks of when you say ¨vampire¨ or ¨werewolf¨,¨ are most definitely heavily influenced by fae (by which, to be clear, i refer to creatures from all over what is now the british isles, and a bit besides).
      I then accidentally deleted the bit in which I basically poorly summarized what Bob Curran states in this article: www.bbc.com/news/uk-northern-ireland-51053870 . and then explained why i didn't personally agree with that theory, at least not any more than any other, but why i would still say ¨you could argue that...¨ you know? I'M not arguing that, but it is very funny to me that u could point to almost any country and credit it for the entire last century of mainstream horror, you know?
      i said it better in the first draft, trust me dude it was sooo well said and i was sooo eloquent and convincing and i cited uhh so many sources for sure. mwah. .too bad i deleted it.
      3) yep, i didn't mention zombies despite their comparable oversaturation precisely because they are distinctly haitian in origin. tho... i will now cut off the rant for both of our sakes. check out Monstrom's episode on it
      4) i hope this doesn't come off as a stranger yelling a strange, uncited rant about mythology at you... on my end at least, this is more like a stranger passionately ranting at you - you, completely disinterested, idly noting the ways in which your own research completely disproves the point they are clumsily making. this is not motivated at all by anger but rather a deep interest in the subject, combined with having resolved not to spend SO much time in the YT comment sections that I'm MLA formatting shit or editing it to make sense, (or combing through my YT comment section to copypaste an old one on the same topic in which I did both of the above) combined with uhhhhhh trying to avoid going to sleep and confronting the fact that i CHOSE to be awake at this time of night for no good reason at all
      5) i really am in love with the way you wrote that response, you said it so well, can we get married? is that too forward? i'm a lesbian btw and i don't know your gender or where you are or your marital status or YOUR orientation actually but i feel that we could make it work besides. i've always been partial to lavender table runners

      @AllyGatorAnimator Před 11 měsíci +2

      Redcaps are actually Scottish, so I kind of wish they'd set the film there, but folktale creatures are adapted in such vastly different ways it isn't massively upsetting (for example, the original Redcap was a single, beastly-looking elf that manifested in a place where evil occurred and murdered people for fun, other variants have the soaking of the cap be a necessity for survival, but Cornish Redcaps are really chill fae who just like wearing red hats lol). There's so many varieties of fae in folklore it makes me really happy to see and often overlooked one get some attention.
