Anybody else think the quiet/creepy skeleton costume person in the audience was going to come into play at some point?
I figured he is the Devil in the title
i thought that too honestly
Yeah , me too
Heck , consider everything that happen , I wouldn't surprised some of audience were actually people of the cult itself and everything has been planned .
Wasn’t he one of the cult members ?
Yeah he was apart of the ritual at the end
As someone who’s been delved in the horror rabbit hole. The scenes in this movie generally unsettled me, specifically the scene with Lily and her giant mouth. The demon on the other hand reminded me of the ghost from Scooby-Doo Cyber Chase.
Man, what a ghost!
😂😂😂😂
Actually crazy dude i watched the movie today and thought the exact same thing about the scooby doo cyber ghost
Yo, they should do an R rated zombie island movie, lol.
@@chrisarbourthat and a rated R version with the vampire chicks would be fire asf
100% agree it's great to see Dasmalchian getting some love, he's been an incredible supporting actor but I feel like we still have yet to see just how good he can be, looking forward to his future work.
I totally agree!
same.
He was in a movie called prisoners as well with Hugh Jackman and Jake Gyllenhaal. Directed by Denis Villneuve. Highly recommend it
I love your profile picture you reminded me to finish watching eyeshield21
He is channeling Hank from the Larry Sanders show, and doing an amazing job of ot.
I loved how little bits and pieces of real paranormal were spread out from the beginning
Wha- really?
“Real”
Ok so did we all miss something? Care to explain that?
@-redacted_by_youtube His wife's reflection can be seen multiple times in glass surfaces. There's static and distortions every time the cult or anything used by the cult is shown or mentioned, there's voices in the feedback
There's more I'm sure others have noticed, but just off my first watch, that's all I was able to observe
The movie implies what we saw at the end is what the cameras saw.
That ending really happened.
so it was not his hallucinations??!
OH MY GOD YOURE SO RIGHT
So then Jack killed the girl in self defense. He should beat any murder rap.
Wait like the hypnotize thing?
sort of. Him killing the girl is real but the different camera and aspect ratio signifies the change from reality to his delusions. Think of it like the black and white is us seeing the real world behind the scenes from the time, the in color parts were the live broadcast, and the modern camera and aspect ratio was us seeing his mind
Found this from another youtube video and they perfectly explained the doubts I had in the movie.
I think the head split was just an illusion but the Demon definitely ended everyone else, as the Skeptic was burned to a crisp but his suit was pristine, Gus was turned into a turntable and June was slumped over with damage to her neck.
So I think the entire night was the Demon and the Cult finally getting what they wanted out of Jack.
As the people in full costumes in the audience were Cult members (like the Skeleton and the Frankenstein's Monster).
The way I seen the film was at first Minnie was trying to contact and warn Jack by making contact with Christu, then the Demon took out Christu as a way of stopping any warnings from Minnie getting through.
Then June mentions how Lilly went into a fuge state a few days ago and was constantly talking about Jack in a familiar way, so I think ever since then the Demon was in constant full control of Lilly and playing pretend that it was a young girl, as it instinctively knows what camera is on them and follows it in-between each camera cut.
There's also how Lilly reacts to the mass hypnotism, she's giggling and laughing the entire time asking "Why is Gus acting so silly?" ... that's because the Demon isn't falling for the hypnosis and it's genuinely confused as to what everyone else is supposed to be seeing.
Lilly also knows the name of the random make up person who comes up to her during the break and she is able to know when even the backstage cameras are filming her.
Theres also a ton of subliminal images of Minnie surrounding Jack, she appears in the mirror during one of the backstage segments, she faintly appears beside Jack when Christu is talking to Eddie's family, she appears in the occult items on stage, she also appears superimposed over Lilly during the hypnosis and conversation with the Demon, and then eventually behind Jack holding his shoulder.
I think Minnie is trying to warn Jack about what's about to happen, as she still loves him, and realises that the deal Jack made "Amongst the Tall Trees" came at a price that will be taken in the form of everyone that he loves being taken from him, that's why his wife suddenly got an illness that she shouldn't have gotten and that's why June was also taken at the end, as the price for a deal with a Demon is always a twisted interpretation of the deal.
During the hallucination at the end when Jack finally sees and talks to Minnie, Minnie says something like "Oh thank God, I didn't think they were going to let you see me!" ... I think the "They" she is referring to their is the Demon and the Cove Cult, but at some point during their conversation the Demon takes control of the hallucination again and then tells Jack to use the occult dagger.
Which in turn completes not only the Abbraxis Cults ritual (as they exclusively used 13 year olds and Lilly was 13) and it fulfils Jack's contract with the Cove Cult, as he will be "No.1 in Late Night" but not as a famous presenter but as an infamous butcher!
... and by having the entire thing broadcast it also unleashes the Demon into the homes and lives of the viewers.
That’s a great breakdown
Thank you for posting this! It broke it down so well
what was the channel name ?
Thanks. I didn't notice the wife's spirit until the slowmo!
Wow thanks
That skeptic character was hilarious. I've never seen a character more obviously based on James Randi in my life.
Randi wasn't quite so obnoxious though
they did my man dirty though ;_; at least they showed him giving the Diabo the check at the end lol a man of integrity
Randi would've kicked the demon's butt.
@@maybeyourbaby6486That was such a funny scene man. And then the demon still just “Abra Cadavra” the slip into dust followed by Carmichael 😂
I deadass thought he would end up being the devil in disguise lmao
I was the only one in my theater who saw the wife's ghost in the bts segments. i legitamately thought i was going crazy until the reveal at the end... where my friends promptly pretended i didnt call it.
Your friends are right
You asked everyone in the theater?
@@hannahmanaman every single one. Which was easy considering it was me and 3 of my friends.
@@Bryandan1elson fair enough lol
That part scared the fuck out of me
I feel like I'm the only one that's noticed when the psychic starts screaming his accent disappears. I haven't seen that mentioned anywhere
I also noticed but agree no one is discussing it.
O M G! I WAS YELLING THIS WHEN I WATCHED WITH FRIENDS IN DISCORD!!
I took it that he was really a fraud to begin with, but then became the conduit for Millie which meant the facade of his Kristou persona went out the window!
Good catch! That really sold his “fraud” status to me
Nice catch, but sometimes accents dont always go through when screaming or singing even
The amount of logos at the start of this movie was one of the wildest things about the film. I thought it would never end
I thought the same thing too. "Is there an actual fucking movie...?"
Someone has to produce it lol
I thought it was meant to be like the beginning of Tropic thunder where there so many fake movie trailers
Its like the gag in family guy
@@I_Like_Ike53 😂 LOL exactly, I think of it when I realize why is it take so long with those studio/sponsor logos
I just saw this movie in the local theater and I loved it
My favorite detail was the conversation between Gus and Hague when Hague promised that everyone's head would turn, and then poor Gus died from his head turning
This felt like a segment in a VHS film and someone decided to turn it into a feature film
That's what the vhs of this film does.
@@Dravianpn02 idk what that means. I was talking about the franchise “VHS” the anthology films. This feels like it could have been a little segment in one of the VHS films. Especially the ending when her head splits open lol.
True, it really does
Thought the same thing felt like a part of a VHS segment or same vibe/style.
@@zachsmith1634 I meant the vhs version of the film is just the on camera film segments. Vhs 1 and 2 are good but 2 has quite a bit of cringe acting. 2 more than 1. The cult story was awesome though.
Is it implied that the reason Jack never quite takes the #1 spot is because Carson has a deal with a higher entity, or perhaps even the Devil himself? And this outranks Mr. Riggles?
I honestly don’t think so. I think it’s more likely that James Carson is popular based on pure talent, whereas Jack is popular from a deal with a demon, hence he was unable to beat Carson in ratings because it wasn’t based on talent, and you can kinda see that in how he hosts the show.
@@josephfreitag568two both very plausible reasons 🤔
@@domotemujin7780i know righttt 😭
He will be a star as a murderer not a late night host
@@josephfreitag568Johnny Carson
one thing i thought was really cool is that there are some audience members who are likely (or definitely) occult/grove members. like the skeleton guy who shows no emotion or moves when jack asks him questions whereas everyone else around them laughs and moves normally, he is there observing jack. there are a few other audience members who are wearing masks that act in this same weird way in the background of shots. super eerie and i feel like its occult members watching jack and the program to make sure the abraxis plan comes to fruition. also these same people are seen in costume during the mind trip/flashback sequences, so it’s super cool to see
the producer guy being so insistent on doing the show despite the guy dying n all that, made me think he was in on it too
8:19 you forgot to mention that we see the ghost of the wife in that mirror for half a second. Creeped the fuck out of me.
THANK YOU!!! I thought I was the only one who saw her.
@@MsSamiam2 It's honestly the scariest part of the movie tbh
@@matheussberant lol. Really? After watching it twice, I think the wife’s spirit was there to warn and protect the main character but the fact that there were two entities present: wife and the demon was creepy. Also the skeleton character in the audience! We thought it was a demon.
I don’t think that’s her, those types of mirrors have glass cut on the edges for aesthetic, but it warps that small bit of image. I honestly think that’s the producer in the sliver to the right if that’s what you’re talking about
You can see his black pants in the sliver of reflection
24:45
I'm a horror vet, but this scene was truly unsettling. Never have i see a demon / human possession shown as it was here. Its so artistically different..... that its scary. Also how it says little to nothing, besides abracadabra 😂
I also really like that scene. The actors did a good job communicating there was some kind of heat or energy that close to the demon. I can almost imagine what that would feel like.
@@donnamurphy8551 - 100%
And when it happened and Lilly's head spread open....I didn't know if she would survive. Such a entirely cool scene. I wish It was longer, but it's brevity is what gives it the effect.
Loved this movie
This was very unique. One of my favorite parts
The bad cgi thing? Boy standards have fallen
Imagine being a "horror vet" and thinking CGI use for horror is appropriate. Any 'horror vet" would laugh and instantly tell you practical effects or bust
You really hit the nail on the head at the start about expectations. I feel like my hype prevented me from liking this movie, but I know I'll have to watch it again now. I didn't remember the wife being glimpsed earlier in the film and it makes me wonder whether she was watching over him in the first instance?
Yes you can catch her throughout the film in reflections if you pay close attention
@@evandaymon8303 I wrote that a little before the ending of this video, just before he clarified that it was a trick to make Jack kill Lilly. But now I'm left wondering whether the part filmed in widescreen was an illusion to make him complete a ritual or possession/ psychic communication by his wife to protect him and prevent Abraxas from crossing over through Lilly...
@@skachor It is left to interpretation of viewer of what happened. ether he has gone insane and everything was in his head and he killed them all, it was all real, or the cameras caught everything as it was shown and he was innocent of the killings.
as for the wife it could be his own wife trying to warn him from continuing further or a trick. this film is more a interpret whatever you feel fits better.
I like to think this film is an allegory for how far tv presenters are willing to go just to get to the top. I mean if you look at how in the industry how many show hosts end up spiralling into drugs and alcohol all because they have become famous but at what cost? Easy their souls! Also their home life, their family and friends all just to get a chance at fame, glory and fortune!
I saw a comment about this and it said that this movie is 'analog horror'. and I agree! Its polished and doesn't have the same aesthetics of the backrooms or the walton files, but its analoge horror. Which I think is super cool. Mainstream big shot movies are taking inspiration from the trends that are beloved in the online horror community.
23:55 Oh that reminds me of the Inside Number 9 live Halloween special _"Deadline."_ The ghost edited into 'A Quiet Night In' scared the PISS out of me back then, along with the techinal announcer getting attacked and screaming. This has the same energy and I love it.
_let us be._
I watched that when it came out and it fucked me over for a while
I think the way that messed me up is exactly WHY I loved this movie, lots of bits that have that just kind of pulls you out of that stasis, it’s so cool
Omg it reminded me of inside number 9 too. Sad its ending this Yr. Such a good show
Yeah, this did feel like an extended episode of Inside No 9. Bits of it reminded me of the gameshow episode and The Devil of Xmas.
There's another new film, Abigail, that feels like the plot could have been used as an IN9 episode, albeit on a smaller scale
I love how no matter how many times I watch his videos I just zone in and vibe and I love it. Voice is just so calming, and I don't have to watch a whole movie, I get distracted easily, and I can just watch this lol.

May be just what I talked myself into hearing, but I could swear at the end, Jack's plea of "Dreamer, here awake" changed for the last repetition, maybe the last two, "Dream her awake". Works either way, I just thought I'd mention it.
Pretty good movie but the ending was a bit underwhelming
Agreed, I was hyped for this but it fell short.
i thought it was good
I thought it was good. Even the ending.... just wish the runtime was longer
Wasn't underwhelming to me, but whatever 🙄
@@kobemarion1137Shit was mid, even bro said to Temper your expectations. 🙄
I quite liked this movie. I was just along for the ride and enjoyed most of it. I didn’t find it scary but got tense with the worm scene. The existence of a cult pretty much spells out the ending from a mile away, but it was fun to watch.
This movie is absolutely fantastic. David is always on his "A" game in every movie he is in. It was so creepy and eerie when Lilly first appeared on stage with her stare and smile. However the thing that was the most unnerving was her unnatural arm and hand motions that immediately tell you something is off.
agreed David Dastmalchian is a great actor
At 27:05 there's a guy in a skeleton costume amongst the cult members. You see him near the beginning sitting in the audience, further implicating that this was all planned by the cult.
I literally looked up "late night with the devil ending explained" hoping to find this, then it comes out the next day. Great timing, been a big fan of yours since 2018 or so. Your the best Foundflix.
I have been waiting for you!!!!! Thank you!!! Came right on time😊
I didn't understand why the "James Randy" guy got so much heat as over-the-top or cringe acting. The real Randy was very close to this, he was except Skeptic also an entertainer
It wasn't super scary, but it was a decent movie. I enjoyed watching it, and my ADHD didn't have me checking out on it. So as far as I am concerned, that is a good review in of itself. I enjoyed it. I think the AI controversy is a bit played out. It's one thing when a multimillion-dollar company uses AI to avoid paying an artist, and an indie group using Ai because they can't afford an artist. I dunno. I certainly believe there is an ethical way to implement the use of AI. But BESIDES that. I did enjoy the movie, it was plenty fun to watch, the actors did a really great job too!
I have horrible ADHD, do you also love classics and yet finding yourself torturing yourself to watch it all the way through even though you know it's good?
There’s been an outpouring of horror artists who said they would’ve done images like the AI ones for free or at least heavily discounted 🤷 (or even for just a simple name in the credits!) considering AI is actively stealing from other unpaid artists, there’s really just no excuse. Get a solid color backdrop if you can’t afford to pay an artist or ask a favor (or do it yourself 🤷)
But I’m glad the movie was cool! It just really turned off a lot of ppl who were excited to see it. 😢
@@caradregs8782 bullshit. Acting like AI is a monolith and can only be bad, or that these people just magically will work for free. That's cope. It's one thing to push for ethical uses of AI. It's just fucking stupid to pretend like all it does is steal from unpaid artists??? When you learn from someone else's art, right??? Do you pay them? When you look at Mona Lisa, or Jujutsu Kaisen for inspiration and influence on your own art? Do you have to pay them? You are making an impossible standard and then saying people would have done it for free. IF people would do it for free, they wouldn't have had to use AI. It's not like they have access to every person beforehand. You sure seem to illogically put a lot of emphasis on things only known in hindsight. You want to argue for ethical uses of AI, I'm with you. But saying that machine learning from artists and calling them unpaid seems like an exception made just for machine learning. You know since, all other artists learn from looking at other artists work too. Using something to learn something and stealing something are two different things. Like I said. I agree with Ethical AI usage, you just seem to think ALL AI is unethical. Being this restrictive on AI, when you don't even know the story behind it or why it was used... That is just as gross as the CEO's who want to try to use it to replace people. If the response to AI is unreasonable, then we won't get the chances to ever enforce ethical use, because they will use the ridiculous standard to wave off legit criticisms. This breed of extremism of any use of AI = bad will cause the process of regulation to miss some of the important aspects that do need regulation due to seeming mundane next to the abject sensationalism. BTW I am an actual artist. I was a tattoo artist for the vast majority of my life, and switched to digital art during the pandemic.
@@sage1682 I just watch short media these days. But I'm in between psychiatrists, so I have been off my ADHD meds for several months
@@caradregs8782 Cannot agree more. Hell, I could easily pay an artist to make something far better than what they presented and I'm just an individual. As you said, plenty of artist would have done it at a discount, or even fre for the exposure. I do think boycotting the movie based on this was a bit too far, as it hurts the MANY other people on the project that had nothing to do with that decision. I'm glad people are having the conversation, though.

I saw this video post and it reminded me to watch the movie. I went into it pretty blind, but I really did enjoy it! It managed to scratch a particular itch that VHS horror seems to give me, it might be best for best cliche, but when cliches are done well, they’re amazing.

Not gonna lie, the thumbnail had me thinking, ‘MAY CHAOS, TAKE THE WORLD!’

Its not that its scary. Its that its memorable. It leaves a mark. It makes you really think about it, instead of using cheap makeup or scares. This movie disturbed me and left me with a similar vibe to Ari Aster films. The set and costume design are amazing, just enough of the 70s to be fun and not boring. The build up...oh man the build up. The suspense is crazy. The characters are so believeable. This is one of the best movies ive ever seen. Doesnt matter if it isnt traditionally scary. Youre shallow as shit if you think that breaks a movie.
I disagree the psychological horror involved in the charismatic night show host realizing he (somewhat) unwittingly made a deal with the devil is outright horrifying as everything unravels around him. I'll take well written psychological horror over gore and jump scares every day of the week. You said it yourself - suspense..people complain the devil isn't in it..but if Delroy casually interviewed the devil there would be no suspense to be had.

I feel there was also a macro plot for the Grove and Abraxas. In the interview with the Cult of Abraxas, the cult leader said that anyone who sees a ritual is "under Abraxas's spell".
So the Grove sets up the wifes sacrifice, gets him famous enough that a boat load of people are watching on the tv (more than the moon landing even) and then the main dude completes the child sacrifice while the world watched
