Thank you for this video, I have also been looking for captive prince dupes! I want something that makes me feel the way that captive prince did the first time I read it. Right now I'm almost done reading "the Husky and his White Cat Shizun" and it the closest I have come to getting that same feeling as Captive prince. I think it is really good and definitely has two of you must have elements and almost all of the extra ones. The only issues is that the official releases aren't done yet and reading the translation online for the latter books is a little annoying and it is very heavy on the fantasy elements.
U've no idea how much I Needed this video!!
Wow, OMG this video is a gem :)) As u know I LOVE CP so this video gives me a lot to read :) thanks Kat ...great job
Firstly, thanks for putting on the screen what a dupe was. I imagined, but was unsure. That was cool of you.
Secondly, I watched only a minute so far of the video, because I have something to tell you. It was such a coincidence that you posted about this series the day the new covers for the reprinting of the trilogy were announced here in Brasil.
WHAT A MESS IT HAS BEEN. The new covers got me more interested on the story and I was planning on buying them (haven't read them yet, but has been on my to buy and read list cause of you)
But A LOT of people complained about the new design, so many people in fact, that the pre-sale was cancelled and everything! I'll try to send you the link to the images: they look a bit YA to me, and this may have been the issue. I don't know exactly what the issue was.
@@annegc85 Wow messy! The book is definitely NOT in the YA genre. It gets pretty dark... My favorite covers are the Australian editions (the ones I have), the Polish editions, and the Japanese editions. The Polish and Japanese ones have the characters on them, while the Australian ones are more subtle.
The Prince’s Assassin Series by Ariana Nash definitely gave me Captive Prince vibes, but Nash has a different writing style which I didn’t enjoy as much, and the element of fantasy (the use of magic, in particular) is much more prominent in Nash’s series. However, I really enjoyed it 🙂
Zercy by Kora Knight didn’t give me Captive Prince vibes, but I loved the book.
Just a bit Ruthless by Alessandra Hazard was an enjoyable read, but I wouldn’t consider it anywhere near a dupe for Captive Prince. But I must say I have become rather addicted to several of the books from the Straight Guys Series. She has a certain formula to her writing which I really enjoy; somehow simple and easygoing but with lots of quirks which keeps me invested. Many of the MCs tend to be hilariously clingy and needy, with lots of unhealthy attachment going on, which I particularly enjoy 🙂
I haven’t read any other titles from the compilation, but if I were to look for something similar to the Captive Prince trilogy I would probably go for The Silk & Steel Series and The Primal Sin Series by Ariana Nash, as well as The Riehse Eshan Series by Adelaide Blaike.
A maybe somewhat odd (contemporary) recommendation, which I just recently finished reading, is Distorted (book one in the Alabaster Penitentiary Series) by Nyla K. It most definitely isn’t a dupe, but it’s M/M with the elements of captivity and outer power imbalance. The one MC is physically stronger than the other, but not irritably so, I would say. I haven’t read Brainwashed (book three in the series), but it also seems to have the same elements (don’t know about physical compatibility, though).
Yeah, Nash was recommended probably the most online. Sadly, her books run hot or cold for me. Some I've read I liked and some I've read I didn't gel with the writing at all. And I think Kora Knight mentioned Captive Prince in her acknowledgments at the end of the book. There were definitely many elements from CP but not that hate/enemy fire. Zercy was too nice in general imo. And Just a bit ruthless was just a bit toothless for me. He wasn't even that ruthless (or that we were shown on the page). Thank you so much for the Distorted rec! Will check it out!~
@@biblioobscura I also have some M/M manga and manhwa recommendations in your "reading wrap up #2" video 🙂
Ariana Nash's Prince's Assassin trilogy is a solid dupe (and it definitely has the 4 must-haves you listed (in varying degrees, but they're definitely there imo). I read Captive Prince a while back while the Prince's Assassin was a more recent read, but I definitely found myself enjoying both of them for the same reasons :) It filled the void left by Captive Prince and reading TPA made me want to re-read Captive Prince asap... so if that tells you anything about the impression the books gave me then I'd say it is definitely worth trying out!
The Prince's Assassin series would without a doubt be my first recommendation for anyone looking to find something similar to Captive Prince
Thanks for letting me know! So far it seems like Nash is the most recommended for dupes. This makes me a bit nervous since sometimes I love her books and sometimes I DNF them. Fingers crossed it is the former :)
@@biblioobscura She's the same for me! But her Prince's Assassin's trilogy definitely improves upon the things I previously had gripes with (I never finished her Primal sin series and really didn't enjoy it, but I did enjoy Silk & Steel more but definitely had issues with it) Meanwhile this series feels much more polished and intricate than anything else I've read by her IMO and the characters feel a lot more realistic. If you do end up picking the series up, I hope you enjoy them as much as I did! :)
Have you read Dark Rise by C.S.Pacat? Doesn't hit all the elements but the love interest has definite Laurent vibes! I loved it :)
I haven't. I'm waiting for the series to be complete because I want to binge it haha
And I'll let you know when I finish any of them, I have read some already like the Prisoner by Megan Derr which was good but not as good as the CP :)
I read the Fae Tales in AO3 by not_poignant and it is the most Captive Princy I’ve found so far. It’s a little more spice-heavy, but especially A Court of Five Thrones was really good
You Will Never Know
(The Whisper in the Dark series) by Chani Lynn Feener
Beautiful writing, good plot. Xx
Sainted by Jesse H Reign. Again fab writing and good plot. Love this xx
Both of these books meet most of your elements.
Alter Arlo by Nordika Night. Not read this yet but sounds great.
@@snowhunt6614 Amazing!!!!!! Thank you!!!!!! I've not heard of any of them! Will look them up and add to my TBR :)
Alter Arlo does not have cp vibes but I think you will 💗 this. Xx
I just started Prince and Assassin and it's also not it. While the main characters are at opposite sides, there are no animosity between them. I'm enjoying it tho, it's cute.
The only I read is Just a bit ruthless and I can say is not it.
Unfortunately, I read this and I completely agree. NOT IT!
