They are very similar looking but do they ride the same?

I had a Lambretta when I was younger. I loved it. Great video as always.
I really liked the Lambretta. If I bought one though I’d go for a different colour. Few nice ones to choose from.

I would be happy with the RA paint job on the Lambretta
A good few of us in our group have the RA gt125 & they really are great comfy scooters to ride with no issues although my mate has the GP125 LC & that’s a different level which does an easy 10mph faster & is noticeably powerful but at around £1000 more expensive & metal panels which will rust unlike the reinforced plastic GT it’s all down to choice. Great fair video though👍

Hi there Dave in France here. Just had a big shock whilst browsing your vids. 50 years ago I was riding a scooter identical in styling and details to the blue and white one !
Mine was called a Lambretta Li 150 Silver Special and as you probably guessed it was metallic silver.
Yes Dave the RA is actually a fairly decent copy of the original Lambretta but with a bigger body plus for some the Scomadi was the first version then RA copied that
I had the SX150 and the same colours … bought it when I was just 16 which was 53 years ago 😂😂 gave it away with a Vespa many years ago … licence for Lambretta ECU 803 E the good old days

The big point is, the RA looks a lot better. It looks like a retro Lambretta. The modern Lambretta is ugly, does not look retro.
Royal alloy sales in the scooter community out sell lambretta probably 10 to 1, based on the clubs im involved in.
They just look like a scoiter should. If Lambretta had more rounded panels, than the modern chiselked look, they could have smashed the market

In the flesh the v200 imo looks really smart, I get your drift brother, horses for courses, you want the retro look for sure. I really cant get on with the vespa GTS300, it is an exceptional machine, engine, power, reliability but its so fug ugly in my view I just cant imagine myself riding one other than maybe a commuting machine for work purposes, but not in anyway a homage to my mod/soulboy roots. But hey, horses for courses. I think what is important is to accept everybody is different and accept them on the scene, because otherwise the scene will die. We are all late 50s or older, there will come a day when the overprice sx200 or TV175 price at crazy thousands of pounds will not command a lot, simply as there will be no retro market for them cause we will all be past it.
You know what I actually like the new lambretta. I've had many lambrettas. However my first Scooter in the eighties was a vespa px 125. That was totally acceptable modern version of the older vespa classics. This new lambretta looks slightly retro but very modern. And modern is what mods were originally about. Move with the times .

Good review for a normally bike rider the majority of full time scooter riders from what I have read on scooter forums and in real life hate the look of the Lambretta just too modern and go to work ride for most but as you said the engine in the Lambretta is lots better the larger models in the RA range the 200cc and recent 300cc engine are really good as always ride safe
I’ve not tried the RA 200 or 300 but I’m told they are much better. The Lambretta like all modern bikes have moved with the times. It will upset the guys and girls that love the old ones but they need the youngsters to buy them and that generation want modern touches like the digital screens. Maybe Lambretta should do a classic one with old school dials to keep everyone happy.
@@GillyBikes yes you are right they still prefer what they call real scooters ie:2 strokes and with four gears 😆 I've been there done that for over 45 years I love having a reliable 4 stroke auto
I recently purchased a V200, I decided on the Lambretta for a number of reasons, including the under seat storage which the RA doesn't have and was not mentioned.
The 200 is a great choice 👍
I have never owned a 'proper' scooter - despite growing up in the late '60's when Lambretta's were all the rage. [I can't remember one single person having a Vespa]. I wanted a 'Lammy' SO much, but my parents simply wouldn't allow it. Most of my mates had GP200's [which Lambretta had recently introduced] but some had SX's.....even Li's and TV's.
Probably the most beautiful scooter I ever saw belonged to my best mates' elder brother who was an original Mod and a really switched on guy. It was an SX200 - which he had re-bored to 250cc's. He also had it resprayed in 'Old English white' over metallic 'Ice Blue'. Decorated with Perspex flyscreen, a plethora of chromed wing-mirrors, all in one carrier rack and back rest - it was absolutely gorgeous!
So based purely on looks - I would choose the Royal Alloy out of these two lovely scooters. It resembles the SX much more closely than the Lambretta v125 - and it's my dream to one day own one of these iconic machines!
I would have either of these. You should treat yourself to one.

@@GillyBikes......It's ok for a holiday - but be careful! Some VERY dodgy people there and despite the 'myth' that Thais are extremely friendly - that only applies when you are giving them money!
It's also worth noting that Thailand has the highest number of road traffic deaths [and injuries] on the planet! [many Thais have never taken a driving lesson in their lives, are uninsured and regard traffic signs as decorations!]
When they were side by side the Lambretta seemed to be lower to the ground which should make for better handling. And it also looks to have a larger frame allowing for more of an upright riding position which I prefer.
The Lambretta does feel nicer to ride. But I do prefer the looks of the RA.
And how about Scomadi?
I owned a couple of original Lambrettas back in the day. If I was in the market for a scooter to relive my youth, the RA is a closer replica and irrespective of which is the better one I, would have to go for the RA over the Lambretta.

They seem to be a bit lower than the modern looking ones. I’m a big fan of scooters. 50cc bikes are brilliant around town. Still loads of fun. Enjoy your new bike and ride safe 👍😎
Yep, the old original Lambretta’s are way smaller than the modern machines. I’ve got a couple of classics. When you park next to the RA’s or modern scoots, my Lambrettas look tiny. The new bikes look like they’ve been down the gym on steroids!

Lambretta have missed the trick. If the royalloy scooters had the Lambretta badge on them, they would sell alot more. The Lambretta looks very plastic and abit cheap.
When you’re up close to both the Lambretta doesn’t look cheap to me. I think royal alloy have done really well with their colour schemes and the extra chrome makes it stand out more. I think if Lambretta just changed their paint jobs and had similar colour schemes to the royal alloy they would sell more.
Mine has almost 10000 kms, zero problems,only oil change and Two tyres.
My wife has that exact Lambretta and it's the only machine I've ever ridden that doesn't feel a pillion! I include my CB1300 in this comment, which needs a great deal of wrestling two-up. Alright, hills slow it a bit two up, but other than that, it's the easiest bike I've ever ridden, and I have had dozens! I selected this bike very, very carefully as it is my wife's fist ever bike, so I found out how it was designed and by whom (KTM) and what type of geometry they were aiming at. All round? They have nailed it!

I’ve seen a few getting new exhausts but can’t see them making a massive difference. I need to try one of the 200 / 300cc they are supposed to be much faster.

If the beeping indicator bothers you, turn it off, after all you were in a right turn only lane. Also, you are on 2 wheels, use your arm. Sorted!
You could disable this easily on the PX, the bleeper was on the right hand side inside of glove box and you simply pulled the fish plate wire connector off. They had to put them on due to EU regs, so im sure there is an easy fix to disable and somebody will no doubt post how to disable the buzzer on the v50/125.200 range.
I went for the lambretta due to the underseat storage. I love it glad i made the right choice.

The v200 in yellow and had the lambretta classic stickers down the side panels. Front and rear crome racks...it looks fantastic.

Surprising result but respect your opinion. In terms of dynamics if you'd have used the RA 125 LC you would defo go for the RA. Incomparable with the AC version. Regarding looks the New Lambretta is just awful compared to the RA. As someone who has had lots of Lambretta & Vespa 2 strokes over the last 40 years, I do miss the smell of 2 stroke but love the comfort & reliability of the new 4 strokes. BTW I know the RA LC is more money but so much more worth it - if you haven't passed your test and go for a 300cc scooter - now they are quick 😉🙂🤞
The RA wins on looks but the Lambretta is much better to ride. I’m told the 200 and 300 RA’s are much better so hopefully I will get to take those out soon.
The RA 300 lc has the radiator in a stupid position, under the bike where it will collect all the shite thrown up by the front wheel and the cowling it’s mounted in looks awful. I had a Vespa 300GTS hpe, a quick bike and lovely looking. I’m sorry I parted with it now and they have risen a lot in price, over £6000 now which for me is too much.

R A for me the lambretta is very square where as the RA looks just like the old lambretta ,ive looked at both options and plunged for the RA GP300S great machine,comfortable ride,a bit high fr some short arses but im 6.3 so its perfect and plenty of leg room
I totally agree. The RA is a better looking machine. But for ride comfort and performance the Lambretta is so much better. Certainly the 125 version. The 300’s I’ve ridden are completely different animals to these though. I love the extra power 😎

I've the lambretta and the Royal Alloy and to me the lambretta is light-years a head of royal alloy. The hasn't got the classic lambretta style but as they said when it was released its were lambretta is now not then. Would i have buy anther one? Yes

I've been riding motorcycles for 50 years and the only bike on which I didn't sometimes leave my indicators flashing was an old MZ which didn't actually have any. You tend not to forget that your arm is stuck out.

Strange that your "old MZ" didn't have any indicators. I guess it wasn't a brand new bike. Wilf Green was the original Official Importer and both my brand new ES 250 (Leading Link front forks !) and TS 250/1 had indicators fitted. The ES had white nylon/plastic bodied bar-end indicators and the TS had conventional indicators. The same production standard applied to the smaller cc bikes too. However......a few owners removed the ES indicators because they were bar-end and some TS owners removed them because the TS indicators were quite large. Many moons ago I was an MZ Dealer and I still have original East German sales brochures and technical manuals etc. Before anyone makes any silly, un-informed, comments I actually toured on the TS and, interestingly, MZ technology (including Blueprints) was actually stolen by Ernst Degner when he defected to Japan and gave Suzuki advanced MZ 2-Stroke technology (by Walter Kaden) that eventually took Barry Sheene to podium wins.
Note: Being of similar vintage, I totally understand the use of self-cancelling human indicator arms !
Great video, one thing you didn't cover though Gilly was the under seat storage with the Royal Alloy having nothing and the Lambretta having a decent sized compartment. For me, there's no way I'd buy a scooter without under the seat storage. The Lambretta allows a helmet to fit underneath and I'm gobsmacked the royal alloy didn't factor this into the design. The RA hands wins on design, definitely you're so correct... (The Lambretta G350 challenges that with the series 2 'two-tone' designs). Could you do a comparision - Lambretta G350 vs Latest Vespa GTS300 next.

That Royal Alloy looks nearly identical to my old 2016 Lambretta. Are they Chinese? Did a quick search and they're now available in NZ where I hail from...veeeery expensive
They do look like copies of the old Lambrettas. The are a uk company. I think they put them together in Thailand though.

The Lambretta wins on looks, it’s identical to the tv200 I owned back in the sixties, but that little engine sounded gutless. I switched to motorcycles after 6 months but still wore my parka and mod gear. I’ve owned bikes ever since and now in my seventies I ride a BMW F900XR, as smart as any scooter and bike clothing can be equally as cool.

The Royal alloy is a lot safer colour as the grey on the Lambretta might blend in with the road from a distance. The important parts for me are firstly the smiles per miles and secondly the price. If I was looking for a scooter though I think I'd still get an old Honda postie bike before either of those.
That’s a good point actually. The colour of the lambretta will make it harder for drivers to see you. And the Honda postie bike is a decent option as well 👍
Great review. I own a GT125 myself, even the colour is the same as mine. They are not a nippy bike from the factory. I just don't like the angular look of the Lambretta. The iconic fork boots are gone and the general roundness of the panels and frame tha are now angular and pointy , just put me off. I've put a few bob into some Tasso Works upgrades to improve the performance of my bike but I would still take a slower but good looking scooter than a nippier bland looking one. Personal opinion obviously.
I get what your saying. The RA does look nicer. I’ve heard the 300 is really good. I might have to try one of those.

Motoring for the Masses said the V125 was dynamically more capable than the RA in their comparison review. The RA is prettier but I want something less shiny to learn on so it would be the V125 for me. At the moment I can't make my mind up whether to get one of the SYM modern bikes or the Piaggo Melody or the V125. The Piaggo is the most practical in many ways from storage to bigger wheels to it being a step thru. But the V125 look a little more fun. The SYM's sort of sit in the middle.
I was surprised at how good the SYM’s engines are. They seem to be similar to the Lambretta. For me it comes down to looks as well. If I was buying one now I would go for the Lambretta. The looks / performance do it for me. But no storage. If you need it to be practical as well then the SYM’s are a good choice. The ones I’ve tried have some decent underseat storage. I’ve not tried a Piaggo so can’t really comment on them.

@@GillyBikes The V125 has a Sym Fiddle 3 engine. The only difference is it's embossed with Lambretta logos. It's an exceptionally well-made engine.

It sucks that the Royal Alloy now looks the way Lambretta used to look and Lambi’s look modern now. Those classic gill slits on the side and 2 tone paint job are what makes them sharp and Lambretta ditched them.
Totally agree Lambretta should go back to their old styles.

IMO that Lambo looks cheap, similar to a 1980s Honda. The RA is much better looking and the GP model has loads of quality extras for an extra £300. Thanks for the review.
The Royal Aloy is as near a modern copy of the most sort after Lambretta the SX200.
On stying it wins hand down....... its just for me it has to be called a lambretta. I would have to de badge the Royal if it was mine.
Scooters have never been chosen for there mechanical prowess, otherwise we would have all riden motorbikes. Scooters have been fashion item, or part of lifestyle choice..
So, i prefer the look of the Royal hands down, but the Lambretta wins, because of the badge 🙂
I agree, for me its either badged Vespa or Lambretta. Royal Alloy is such a shite name; being they ripped off Scomadi. Now Scomadi is a good name, it sounds Italian and I think it has more kudos. However, in reality the Scomadi electrics were shite, the headset would snap off at the first removal to change bulbs etc; I hear similar stories about the RA.

They are styled on the old bikes. They really do look like 50 year old bikes. Which is Unlike the Sym, Suzuki, honda and such like which I would consider to be modern.

The ...ahem... lambretta... is actually a 'sym fiddle ' which has had a specialy designed exterior that uses styling cues from the original lambrettas. sym frame,sym engine and sym developed. The company calling itself lambretta now has just purchased licensed naming rights to this scooter and therefore can use the leverage of the brand to seem more authentic. Nothing wrong with that and it happens often. They are owned by an innocenti branded company which maybe a copyrighted name or maybe family related to the original innocenti company that produced original italian lambrettas from the late 40s to the late 60s, when they sold it off to british leyland who ended scooter production in 1971. its a fine modern scooter but no matter how many badges it copies, it is not a milan built italian lambretta. The Royal alloy closely resembled a lambretta Gp (dl) in its original guise of scomadi. scomadi broke away from hanway to build in their own factory and hanway rebadged the scomadi as royal alloy and shafted scomadi whos british designers came up with the whole concept. Now both Royal alloy and scomadi make similar scooters based on original lambrettas. Are these machines accepted by purists? who cares,purists are not the market. They are accepted on the classic scooter scene as the norm now and bring new blood into it,who cant afford stupid prices that vintage scoots often cost,and may not want to constantly have to maintain and nursemaid 30/50/70 year old italian scoots. if i were picking one for looks it would be the directish copy Royal alloy, but im old. i also like the lambretta v and can understand why its being bought. Its a nice looking scoot with enough styling copies to make it appealing.Go with your own choice. it dosnt matter what anyone else thinks. me, il stick to classics but i kinda like these new machines and the fact it draws people into the classic scooterist scene.
Really well said mate, exactly my point of view earlier on. Us old farts might not be here in twenty years, £15000 TV175 or SX in shed that nobody wants
@malcymal the thing is,if the scootering scene tradition is to carry on ,it's vital that young uns have a way in. These new machines will become classics one day ,long after our riding days are over. If nothing else at least the vespa survives and the lambretta design and spirit carries on.

The royal alloy only had 26 miles on the clock compared to the lambretta 391 miles so the royal alloy was no way near run in... I would put the lambretta engine in the royal alloy personally and the seat. I have the royal alloy myself... It does turn heads... Just fun to ride...

A few have said that. The lambretta is trying to be modern and the RA is trying to look like an old Lambretta and for me that makes the RA a better looking bike.

It really does. It has the old school look. But the Lambretta is better to ride. More responsive on the throttle and just feels nicer when your riding.
Bought a royal alloy second hand 3400 miles on clock great looking and loved it but the rust started then I realized I should have bought the lambretta also the lambretta holds its price better so selling the RA and getting a 2023 lambretta
You will notice the power difference straight away.
What is the difference in price? Would be interesting in the different in MPG also.
The RA is £3299 and the Lambretta is £3499. Lambretta is approx 94mpg and the RA 100mpg.

I do love a 2 stroke. These are just a modern take on the old 2 strokes bikes. Mainly just the looks. They don’t have the awesome smell though. For me a moped needs peddles and a basket on the front. 😂

just my opinion but when buying a scooter is it not all about looks if it was about performance you would buy a motorbike
I partly agree as some people that will buy these bikes will buy them purely on looks alone. If I was buying on looks alone I would buy the Royal Alloy, however there are some that just like the ease of use with a scooter. The ‘Rev and go’ appeals to lots of people, whatever reason either they don’t like or can’t use gears. They might look at performance as well as comfort. Then there are the Brand snobs. They want the best name not the best bike. Without going on to much we all want different things for different reasons. I however want it all. Looks and performance 👍

if you thinking of sturdy solid build better choose a Lambretta...the design twice sturdy then Royal Alloy cause it combined frame chassis design from Vespa and Tubing frame design from Royal Alloy....for Lambretta it really small, pretty much like Vespa 50cc length....the trend and favor to own Lambretta will dies for next 10 years...if it exist it only exist in my area to prove that I'm wrong...yeah again I'm gonna buy it incase if I have spare money....techno bulky concept most of been influence by indian scooter community...over the century they try to prove I'm wrong so they can be Shiva in their homeland....

Bit daft, isn't it, when by far the better looking of the two is the fake, a very good copy of the 60's Lambo design, whilst the actual Lambo has departed much too far from the retro look. (IMO).
Neither of these are Lambrettas. Royal Alloy is a Scomadi clone, and that V125 is SYM with “new” clothes.
It’s not an old Lambretta I will give you that. But it is a new Lambretta. Also to be fair the sym 125 scooter engine is a really reliable and well performing engine so I don’t have a problem with it.
@@GillyBikes It's not a Lambretta at all. It has no lineage to Innocenti. It is badge engineering which is why it isn't accepted by National Lambretta Clubs. I'm not saying that it's a bad modern CVT scooter and it may be a decent consumer machine, but it is not part of the Lambretta heritage, unlike Piaggio which makes modern CVT Vespas. These are Vespas because the marque's lineage is unbroken.
The lambrettas that we knew will never return due to EU regulations , emissions etc. But they attempt to appeal to the retro crowd which is great; we NEED NEWCOMERS to the scene. Us old fossils in our late 50s early 60s need new blood to drive on the scene. If we all bided by this philosophy that we need vintage, our cars would be a ford escort xr3 and not the nice audi. Ive driven vespas and lambrettas for 40 years, its in my blood and yes, wouldnt it be great to have nod to the past but its never gonna be 2 stroke. The ugly vespa 300 GTS, its a superb scooter mechanically but its ugly IMO and its very heavy. Ive resisted buying one, i still plod about on my two manual geared 2 stroke vespas but starting to feel the pinch of declutching, changing gear, etc due to my joints and bones grumbling. Make the most of these RA/Lambretta auto scooters whilst you can because not far away we will be forced to buy new electric scooters. Buy one of each, look after them, service them and 20 years time they will be the classics. The RA, yes its a nod to the lambretta styling, but is not a lambretta. The new lambretta, well its just a brand badge slap, yes, aesthetically designed in Europe by an Austrian, but using Tawainese engines and assembly, the same as the RA. I think they are both nice but the lambretta might, and i say might, hold value as it is actually, officially a Lambretta. The new Lambretta doesnt attempt to mimic completely the old scoots, the RA does yes. Remembering too, the traditional scooter scene riders accounts for 1% of all scooter purchasers! Live and let live, RA and the new Lambretta both accepted on Rallys, seen tons of them, gotta move forward and choose whatever floats your boat. Quite amusing the other day, local scooter run to my town, all the general public walking along looking at the scooters and a lot of admiring glances going to the new machines, the RA's etc much to the annoyance of the classic owners. I still love looking at Rally 200s, SX200s and the roaring ting ting ting of their 2 stroke expansions, the smell of oil/petrol mix and then a gentle smile to the couple of classics that wont start or are sitting in the layby broken down. Horses for courses folks. RA , Scomadi, Lambretta, Vespa Autos, these are the future classics. Got to go now and work out why my smallframe vespa isnt running yet again. Very tempted to get an auto, my choice would be the v200, not cause of speed, cause its light and 60mph is more than enough at my age.
The autos are very easy to ride, have all the tech but they don’t sound as good as the 2strokes. They don’t have that wonderful smell that the 2 strokes have. The 125 will do 60 but that’s about it. The 200 or 300 would be better for longer journeys. I prefer the overall package of the new Lambretta it just seems better. Better performance and looks more of a premium bike.
Well said Malc because if lambretta were still making scoots they would have evolved and maybe look like the v special. My scoot buddy has had 4 royal alloys and had too much trouble with all of them. So they look nice no doubt but i would hop on the v special all day long. And my scoot only does 55mph and im happy with that.
@@scooterkev6978 55mph for me is plenty too, with all the damn potholes everywhere its not great for any two wheeled driver, especially scooters on small wheels.
@@GillyBikes Yes, its true, the ting ting ting and popping of the exhaust, revving the nuts off each gear change, the small of the two stroke (sometimes nauseating when you are riding in a group of 50), but as I get older and wiser, the thought of having a smooth purring machine, bit like when i got my first p200e with standard exhaust, it was so smooth, unexciting, but it purred along all day long. I think the new Lambretta will be in my clutches soon, i will keep one geared vespa just to hold on to that retro experience, but im tired of farting about with carb mix issues, leaks, and brakes that arent that great.

Don’t be fooled by the names, they are both Chinese and use a cheap under powered air cooled motor, for this money you can buy a proper top brand scoot

Technically neither of them are as they are both brand new. They are just made to look like older bikes. The Royal Alloy like it or not looks better to me. But if you have watched the video in full you would know I would buy the Vespa as it’s a better bike to ride.
The Lambretta is ugly as sin 🤢 the Royal alloy is more Lambretta than the Lambretta.

Both totally garbage, tell me we need to go 4t, OK, need to go auto, OK.... but plastic is a red line. These are junk scooters, you are not going to grow old with them, pass them down, they are not going to acquire patina, they are throwaway things, might as well get a far superior Honda Pcx125. I've a 1962 Vesps GL, l'd swap it for one of these? I don't think so and l'd wager my scooter is going long after people don't remember RA.

I do understand what your saying though. the really old ones do look better. That being said these ride so much better than the old ones, faster, more mpg, much safer due to modern breaks. But will they last 60 years like your Vespa? Only time will tell.
It's horses for courses, and more will want the ease of use of these modern scooters.

Honestly Vespa and Lambretta Screwed up. Their new Chinese versions of their Name brand is rubbish pure rubbish. Royal Alloy and Scomadi had the correct idea. I would far rather drive an RA or Scomadi and an LML than touch a modern so called Vespa or Lambretta. Not trying to be a prick or anything. But there was never a problem with the Look or Design of either Vespa or Lambretta. The Crap Motors and poor brakes and bad Italian Electrical were the only issues but instead of putting a superior motor design upgrade with better electrical etc they ruined the bodies and put generic Chinese motors in. Lazy on Vespa and Lambrettas' end realy. There are millions of Lambrettas and Vespas laying about un restored and discarded all over India Europe UK North America South America etc etc etc would have been better to simply make a new 4 stroke motor of actual quality into these original bodies. Save money on production and keep the true nature and beauty of real scooters alive but alas nope. I chose instead to convert all my original Real Lambrettas and Vespas to Electric and they are all now three times faster, 100% reliable and never need any form of Maintenance, cheap as they cost 0$ in petrol, have four times the range of any petrol Scooter or motorcycle for that matter. Now I strictly ride and enjoy I waste 0 time repairing badly made Italian parts or Chinese motors etc never breaks down. So there you have it. It cost me 3000 to convert an Italian Scooter to what it always should have been, a never breaking down always running immaculately and able to do 160 kph on motorways without a sweat. That is what they should be. But again as for buying a modern Branded Vespa or Lambretta or an RA? easy decision. RA all the way dump those cheap Vespa Lambretta rubbish over the side of the boat.
How many miles do you get on a full charge? My experience with electric bikes so far has been very mixed. The smaller ones only able to do 40 miles on a full charge. The £20,000+ ones barely doing 100 miles. Were as these scooters are doing over 100mpg so are really cheap to run.
LML collapsed in 2017 and they were truly crap scooters too, absolutely awful electrics and worth half than the PX
