    Well done, Scott. Fun to watch the project unfold and your documentary skills are first-rate. From this day forward, WD-40 will be known to me as "ooby-dooby." . (Great music BTW)

      Thanks for the kind words Chuck. It’s been a learning curve, but hopefully I keep improving. Need to sort out a some shaky camera shots and control that auto focus. 😉

    My 1962 LI 150 was grey inside. If you fit front crash bars on the front, you can sit more comfortable. Your heels stay on the scooter floor at the very front, with the rest of your foot resting on the crash bars. Your legs sit wider and your body becomes part of the scooter. Which makes it more stable to ride. From an old 1960’s Mod.

    Excellent low budget overhaul Scott , I had a sx200 way back in the 60s, one thing I remember when looking at the exhaust system on yours was that the rear tail pipe bolt was always coming loose, probably due to aftermarket "flatbox" silencer with long chrome tailpipe, simple fix change bolt for a stud spring washer and nut, problem solved!

  • @Coolrunnings2
    @Coolrunnings2 Před rokem +6

    2nd vote for Kermit. By the way Scott those nuts holding the exhaust header tube to the barrel don’t look to be brass. Plus if they are, couldn’t really see them, they should be replaced or they’ll be coming loose soon. Great vid as usual. Cheers from Finland.

    • @CobwebGarage
      @CobwebGarage  Před rokem

      Thanks Paul. Yeah, they're not brass. And, I forgot to order new ones, which I would normally do, because they always get a bit chewed up, then are difficult to take off the next time. But ran out of time, and they've stayed on so far, so went with them for now. Cheers!

    Super fun to watch--I love how everything you did felt like something anyone with some basic tools and time could achieve. I'm in the process of buying a restored 1960 Lambretta, but this is a great piece of reference for any minor clean-up and for generally maintaining it. Well done!

    I bought a new Vespa GS 160 in 1965, aged 16, and then traded that in for a Lambretta SX200 in 1966. At that time I believe all imported scooters were white and it was dealers that painted them, or chromed them, to the purchasers requirements.

    The patina shit sauce is the lazy boys approach, it does nothing but gather dust and damages the old paint finish. You should use a good quality fine compound, and finish with something like Meguiars + carnauba. It'll take a few hours, but the result is superb, and it can be maintained with a detailer, exposed metal and corrosion hand lacquered by brush then waxed. As for the Tyre Wax, It's a sure way to slide off in the wet or a slick road surface. Who in their mind gets wax near scooter tyres.

    Not sure if you can get Mother's Mag and Aluminum polish on your side of the pond for the tailpiece, horncast cast and handle bar bits, but it's great stuff. I think the 125/150 Specials from that era were either Silver or Gold from the factory with white internals (tank, airbox, cowl, etc.) Maybe just overspray from the green paint? Nice video. Cheers!

    • @CobwebGarage
      @CobwebGarage  Před rokem +2

      Yes, I've checked it out, and you can buy "Mothers Mag & Aluminium Polish" here! Will get some on order to try! Ah, ok so internals could be off white! Robert commented the internals could be 'duck egg blue'. I'll check them both out. I guess the colour doesn't come across so well from the camera, then on CZcams etc. Many thanks for the comment and all the best!

    • @CobwebGarage
      @CobwebGarage  Před rokem +1

      There are several companies that make a 'patina sauce', but after a bit of research, some of these sauces at least, are based on Boiled Linseed Oil with other stuff added (white spirit and penetrating oil type stuff). Some old-school hotrod guys apply pure Boiled Linseed Oil to old paint jobs (which is what I did on Oddbod), but it is a little greasy applied pure..

    Hei Scott so satisfied with Your work on this Lambretta SX125 And great to know that You keep in on the original patina condition, just wondering how to make the "Patina Sauce" can't understand pretty well.. it's just some kind of mixture the WD & White spirit? Or just the boiled linseed Oil.. got some patina Vespa here in Indonesia "so hot and tropic here the rust spread so fast here" Thank's for answer Scott.. respect!!

    Hi Scott, yet again a fab video. What’s the ratio of your patina mix and does it leave a greasy film (will it stay greasy and get on your clothes) cracking scooter. Mike BLC

    • @CobwebGarage
      @CobwebGarage  Před rokem

      Mainly the Boiled Linseed oil, I just added a dash of white spirit and WD40. It is greasy for a few days, but I found on Oddbod it dried out nicely (I used pure Boiled Linseed Oil on Oddbod). Also, you can spend time really wiping it off well (I left a bit of a film on). Patina sauces really work well on vehicles that have a lot of surface rust and really faded (porous) paint (worse than this scoot). I've seen a lot of hotrod car guys putting on old cars etc. Stops any rust getting worse, and brings faded paint back to life.
