Nikon make a "rear" polarizer filter called C-PL1L, I use it on my 600mm f/4 & 500mm f/4, it also work for this lens.

yes there is a cap provided, (it's the hard back section of the nylon pouch)- courtesy of a piece of cardboard/plastic installed in the pouch itself.

Compared to my Nikon AF-s 600mm f/4, I find the AF-s 200-400mm f/4 to be not as bright, is the real aperture T5 and not f/4 ?
If you had to choose would you rather go for the new 300mm f2.8 or the new 200-400 f4 ?

iv been offered the 200-400 f4 vr for £1700. really good condition , all original boxs bags etc , i was toying with the idea of the 200-500 . but think this lens 200-400 would give better results .and crop in a little to make up for the 100mm of the 200-500 mm would i be right in saying this ( using a nikon d850) thanks

I followed your advice and took the plunge when a friend called me and told me there was a second hand 200-400 f/4 at a camera store. It is by far the best piece of glass I've ever held in my hands. Ummmm..... you dont need to take out the polarised filter to adjust it..... doesnt look good for a review to not know the item they are reviewing
