- Hey house lovers and explorers!
Today you get step back in time to the mid 50`s to early 60`s with 2 mid century homes to look at.
This first takes the cake by a long shot as it is now one of my favorite explores in the suburbs due to the absolute original state and amount of classy details it offers particularly it`s interiors.
A 2 level home built for classic 50`s entertaining in style this home would have been quite the envy on the area back in the day with it`s contemporary design and even for today the interiors still look fresh in an awesome retro way! in my eyes at least. :-)
The second home is still all in original condition although shall we say "Well loved" :-)
The distinct exterior brick/stone work and design on both of these homes screams late 50`s early 60`s here in Adelaide and to lose more of these is a crime.
Hope you enjoy the tour, cheers for watching :-)
Thanks for the video Paul. That first house was my home for 10+ years. Beautiful!
Hi Henry! :-) Wow always great to see comments from former residents and owners :-) An absolute step back in time here Henry, one of my fav homes now!! Glad you were able to enjoy this as your home for ten years! Thanks for watching and commenting. :-)
Lucky you!
There should be a law against destroying such a beautiful home. It wouldn't cost that much to repair that sagging floor and cracks in the walls. I think this is the best home I've seen yet.
Hi Laura! :-) Yep I totally agree with you, easy fix if want to! Cheers for watching :-)
First house was amazing 1956 hmmm year I was born. The terrazzo floors were so cool. Boy they are hard on bones if you fall. And waxed properly slippery. We had them in my schools, as kids we would take shoes off and slide in our socks. You got 1st place if you could slide from one end of the hallway to the other end. Memories
Glad you enjoyed Feathered Life :-)
Good morning Paul,I'm lost for words, with these houses, especially the first one,I felt like gathering lots of people ,dress in that era and have a big party, that was amazing , untouched beauty, they should keep it for movies, this was one of my favourite videos ,poul you deserve a medal for your great work . thankyou again for a great Sunday morning have a great week from a Frenchy in Australia 🇫🇷🇦🇺👍👍🤗
Glad you enjoyed it again Francoise! :-) Def a trip back in time with this home! Really felt the good vibes of yester years in here. I can only hope the development plans fail somehow and it gets restored! Cheers again Frenchy :-)
One little gripe....that 1950s or 60s music as the tour starts...annoying, Mate. Feels out of sync to me. Might just be me, of course. Now, i get it 🤦♀️, it was built in '56. I just don't like the music.
Apologies, Paul.
Apart from that, loving it. .
The terrazzo person who did the floors in the first home was an artist and a true craftsman. What a shame to lose such an iconic 50's house. It's good that you also documented the second one also. Stay safe and healthy. Thinking of you in the warm down under. Here in Michigan, USA the weather is cold and snowy.
I absolutely love the houses from the 1950s. They have so much warmth and charm. That first house was awesome with so much detail! What a shame it is now gone for ever! Thanks so much Paul. 😊
That first house was incredible. What an absolute tragedy that it’ll be gone - if it isn’t already 😕
Hi Ken :-) Still standing mate but probably not for long unfortunately. Glad you enjoyed :-)
Loved this house! My childhood was in the “50’s” and going through this home gave me fond memories.❤
Happy days can of feel lol so Awsome to see house is sweet the 80s kids will all ways love this kind house
They really need to preserve older places like this so future generations can see how people use to live
The first house is an absolute gem! I especially love the kitchen and the tilted drawers. The terrazzo flooring is very cool, it reminds me of the Roman flooring frescos archeologists are still uncovering. Overall, I've never seen such amazing features!
Masterwork terrazzo floor covering! Surprised it was built in 1960s but WOW. It would be interesting to see who designed the house. Kitchen drawers were something I’ve never seen. Ceiling molding and bathroom tile work was also special.
Thank you for capturing these houses.
Hi William :-) The first home was started in in 1955 and the second was built 1960, the second one I relied on the real estate site which is not always accurate. Glad you enjoyed all the special details mate and appreciate this gem! Cheers for watching :-)
Just finished the first home and wowzers! What a spectacular house - it must have a been a real showplace in its day! I love the huge kitchen window with the rounded trim that makes it look a bit like an old TV screen and those fantastic cabinets with the folding waterfall effect of the drawer fronts! The floors are simply amazing. The family/games/party room upstairs would have been so much fun. (BTW, there was a tap for the bar sink in the wall to the right) I think the small room up there was meant to be an office originally which left the first floor for day-to-day living.
Im so glad you found it!! Oh, and I laughed way too hard at the “time out space for the kids”! 🤣
ETA: The second home was once a nice, simple family home. If the kitchen wasn’t such a mess and the rest was cleaned up, it was actually a pretty nice little place!
Hi Lucinda :-) Defo showpiece home in its day! :-) Glad you enjoyed all the great details and good one for spotting the tap! haha. Cheers for watching Lucinda :-)
I always watch these videos with a mixture of absolute anger at the demolition of these beautiful old places and replaced by vile, cheap, uninteresting nasty modern shit. And also a feeling of happiness that you were able to at least record these lovely places. What a stunning and interesting home. Great video and thanks for your efforts! Liking the music too. I’d even go as far to say it’s one of my favourite houses on your channel, the kitchen is to die for ❤️
Bitter Sweet for sure this one mate! Such a great experience seeing and exploring it but knowing it is not going to survive is sad........Def in my top 5 homes!!!! :-)
This was a most enjoyable video. That first house is beautiful. It's such a shame it has to be demolished. The Terrazzo floors are beautiful. I really like the way you spent time showing these floors throughout the exploration. Those bathrooms, (especially the tiles) are amazing. Thank you for all the hard work you do to bring these videos to us.
Glad you enjoyed it S Larson :-) Glad to show this one off, amazing home :-)
Mate! The holy grail of a Wog Palace! 😆 wall to wall terrazzo cona crete! LoL at the mermaid 🧜♀️ in the bathroom. Crazy Zig Zag kitchen draws with leopard draw liners, shagadelic! this place is awesome! Only thing missing is a couple of pink plastic flamingos 🦩 out the front!
Great find! Cheers 🍻😎👍
Haha great comments mate. :-) Cheers for watching :-)
I would purchase this beautiful home in a heartbeat ... even if it meant moving to another state ... I loved everything about it and with the help of an interior designer who is sympathetic and knowledgeable to the era of house... it could be turned back into all its original magnificence ... it breaks my heart knowing it will be demolished ... I really love this house 💙💜💛💚🤍❤️
Hi Black Orchid, it would be satisfying to say the least to know that was the fate of this one instead of being replaced. Glad you enjoyed :-)
These two houses are some of my absolute favourites!! The over the top bathrooms are the best and all the attention to detail, the gorgeous colours, the architectural features, so awesome! Thank you
I realize this video is a few years old now, but I just stumbled upon it. I want to commend you for showing great respect to the derelict buildings you explore. You're careful, cautious and respectful whilst touring through them. You leave the building as you found it. I really appreciate that.
That first home!! Those floors are amazing!! I’m so sad this home is going to be demolished. It’s so neat
Hi Lindsay! :-) Yep it sure is, cheers for watching :-)
Just an incredible house, must have been one of very few houses with that extent of extremely well done terrazzo work. And those kitchen drawers!
That is an amazing house! Must have been in the family for a period of time for it to have been uncorrupted by home improvement ideas for so long. Just beautiful. Thanks, Paul
How original can you get with this retro 1950s time capsule. 🏠I absolutely agree with you Paul this spacious home with both external and internal intricate architecture is amazing. The second home with the brick titled facade was a popular design in South Australia during the 1960s. Thank you for such a fascinating explore of a unique architecturally designed spacious home and also the typical Adelaide suburban 1960s style house. 🏡
Thanks again Julz! :-) One of my favs for sure!!!! :-)
The coolest house I’ve EVER seen! I swear if I could buy it I would in a heartbeat. I love the mid century modern feel, and the terrazzo floors with all the vignettes. The rounded built-ins were gorgeous, even the front door. And it had such a “secret garden” backyard. It felt private and secluded and very tropical. So sad they are going to tear it down and build condos instead. Just…WHY?
Hi Pamela :-) Yep I have to say this one is in my top 3 for design and features! The former owner was getting on in age and she could no longer use the whole home and unfortunately developers got it it the Auction :-( cheers for watching
The floors in the 1st house are amazing, I have never seen anything like it before and sadly probably won't see again. Such a shame to loose such a unique house. The second house is still pretty cool. I like that style.
Oh, what a gem! I enjoyed every bit of this house. One doesn't find an untouched place like this very often. I enjoyed this very much. There may only be two other explores that I enjoyed more...one was an old heritage villa that sat on a very large corner lot. I wasn't able to find it on your page so it muct have been archived. The other one was a house that had been used as some type of heritage center/museum. It also had a very large garden with lots of flowers. I couldn't find it either.
Glad you enjoyed it lladylobo1 :-) An absolute Gem I agree! Regarding the other explores you mentioned they all should be in order from oldest last to newest first in the video section on my channel? Cheers for watching and the support :-)
Wow this was an amazing explore and so wonderful you got to it before the vandals did - thank you xxx
Thanks for reviving more great memories, Paul! I'm from a very working class background. In 1960, I was romancing a young chic very much from the top end of town. She invited me to her school formal at one of Adelaide's premier girls' colleges, & I have never felt more out of my depth than that night. There was a pre-formal party in a place that looked very much like the first house in this top video of yours. I definitely relived that juvenile sinking feeling of ostracism, while watching the vid.
Thanks, mate, ....I think...!!!
I am totally in love with the first house. The Art Deco designs were fabulous. The floors were art themselves. Thanks for taking time in there.
You are so welcome Donna, cheers for watching :-)
What an utterly amazing house!
The first one: What. A. Beauty! 😲
One of your best explores in the first home! The pure joy I felt in seeing it ❤
Paul the round windows are called portholes! Love your episodes Mr History 😀👍
Thanks Frankie Taz! :-) Def now one of my Fav places too! Cheers for watching and the support :-)
You are my Sunday morning ritual Paul ✌️
Cheers Braveheart 01 :-) Many more to come!
Wow, love these homes. Beautiful floors, one doesn’t see that kind of detail anymore. I’m so glad you never seem to have a shortage of wonderful places to explore and entertain me with! Thanks again for another ‘thumbs up’ video. You rock, dude!
Wow...that first one....the cost alone for those floors and bathroom...beautiful,,,,
I am so glad you mentioned that Art Deco made a resurgence in Australia in the 50s! That explained so much about this place (the first house) because you kept saying it was a 1950s time capsule and I kept thinking “no, if it’s Art Deco it has to be from the 20s or 30s!” You’re always spot on with your comments and I was beginning to be disappointed & think you were wrong with your 1950s assessment until that one explanatory comment! Beautiful home, I enjoyed every minute of this video. You did a great job of capturing all the incredible detailing, too.
Thanks Kristy! :-) I am planning on doing a specific video on the Art deco themed homes spanning from the 30`s to the 50`s here in Adelaide for that very reason of it being confusing as they vary :-) Thanks for the support and for watching again Kristy :-)
Art Deco was late in Aussie, in the 30s Aussies still preferred Californian or Tudor if they had cash, Deco trends were postwar in this country.
The first home was absolutely stunning. So sad that is to be demolished instead of saved and loved. The second one was small and cute but may have been too far gone to save. Thank you for another great exploration!
Glad you enjoyd Brittany :-)
OMG! I'm crying Paul, that first home is treasure to be kept alive an the gardens are so beautiful! 💋🇺🇸
I agree Alma :-)
Absolutely love the first home.👍❤️🇺🇸
Thanks for watching Gayle! :-) Yep that first one is one of my favs now for sure! :-)
I showed the first house to my husband and told him I wanted it and he said get it! And we don’t even live in Australia 😂. My childhood dream was always to move to Australia but then I found out so many things there want to kill you. Seriously though I would love to live there except for the fact that I can’t do heat anymore. It hit 7C today and I was turning off the heat and opening windows, watching 2 feet of snow and ice melting in the yard. What a beautiful house and what a shame they want to tear it down.
Haha Martha I am with on the heat! Used to love it but less and less now! :-) Glad your hubby has allowed you to snap this gem up, I will make sure the gardens get done before you arrive haha :-) Cheers for watching
Thank you for capturing this jewel from the past!
Glad you enjoyed it LCNWA :-) Cheers for watching
The first house has to be one of my fav's that you've shown us. The floors and decorations in it were astounding.
Hi Marybeth :-) Yep it is one of my all time favs! Thanks for watching
Wow those floors are amazing
Absolutely fabulous. Thank you sir.
Very welcome Lauren :-)
Great house, So pretty... Thanks for sharing.
Such a crying shame to see this beautiful home disappear in the name of progress and profit. Thank you for finding and sharing this beauty.
I despair that such a wonderful example of this period's architecture can be destroyed.
The models of Bathroom sinks at the time offered a pedestal or a larger sink with Chrome tube support rods at the corners. I wonder if the owner was a Ham radio enthusiast. The Australian heritage of radio communications in the early 20th century was legendary in the outback stations, and was a veritable lifeline for the radio schooling service and the Flying doctor. They should be so proud. Cheer's and Thank you for the look in.
There should Definitely be Laws in the world against destroying heritage like these!
Truly Beautiful and Hard to know it will be gone!
Great video; thanks.
Namaste!!!!
Great explores!!! Love the different architecture! 🥰🥰🥰
What an amazing house, I can almost imagine what it must have been like for the original owners of the first house when I was first built and ready to move in!!! That upstairs room was probably an office judging by all the plugs and things. Thank you so much for showing us these 2 homes.
Glad you enjoyed it Heather :-) Thanks again for watching :-)
I've never seen anything quite like the first home. The ceilings were awesome. Not to mention, that bathroom, wow. Another great explore. Thank you and stay safe, from Arizona. 🙂
Wow. I want that house!
I bet the same family lived in this much loved home most of it's life.
That first place is awesome 😎💕 I would not change a thing
Wow first house is definitely top 5 of the houses you’ve shown over time. I would totally live there. Thanks again for another great exploration.
Glad you enjoyed it Julie! :-) And I have to agree top 5 :-) Thanks for the support and watching
WOW , love it!!
I love this place !!! It's definitely one of my favorites you've explored. All of the terrazzo is beautiful. The 2nd place was great too, I love that Era, I grew up in it. I would have art deco now if I could. The styles are making a comeback, it's a shame these places will be gone.
Those are both great houses. The first one was a real gem. The second one would have been nice in its day too.
The first home is totally amazing! What a shame they are tearing this gorgeous place down…it should be preserved for history like so many you find. This home was built the year I was born and I cannot imagine my parents living in something this spectacular. This certainly was a home of someone with money in 1956.
Hi Sheila, so glad you loved it too! :-) Cheers for watching
👍😊 great video. Gorgeous house.
Wow Paul. That is an amazing home. The best to date. I absolutely love the work gone into the floors. Amazing. The kitchen draws were so unusual. It's is disgusting that a stunning house like this can be demolished. Crying shame. Lol about putting kids in the cupboard for time out. Thank you for sharing this amazing house with us. Take care Paul 😊
So glad you loved it too Jen, def now a fav of mine! :-)
Love the kitchen
Wow fantastic
wow fabulous
Thank you for another inter string video. I always enjoy them. Take care, stay safe, God bless you. Paul! Cheers!
Glad you like them Marie :-) Thanks for watching and you support, many more videos to come :-)
It's beautiful! It's truly criminal to destroy it.
Yep agreed Jean! Cheers for watching :-)
Loved the windows in the second house. I like that style so much.
That’s a nice retro one mate the tile work it’s classic and I love that cupboard with those drawers. Marilyn Monroe I love her this is a good explore mate and Paul loving the tunes there the best and I want those yakkas.
Hey Werner! Cheers mate. Yep Marilyn and this home are both easy on the eye haha :-)
Awesome.
One word ,,Supurb...floors amazing ,,lots of rock and roll in that house ,listening to Bill Haley and the Comets..😀👍
Glad you enjoyed it Talk Talk :-) Yep you can just picture the parties and dancing! :-)
I 💕 it! The old elegance shines through. I'm glad you got to document it.
This is
BY FAR!
THE MOST COOLEST AWESOME HOME I HAVE EVER SEEN MY ENTIRE LIFE SPAN!!!!
And I'm old!!!
Thankyou so much for taking us thru this home! I can't believe it was demolished! Just the floors with that cool tile, was Amazing!! I enjoyed every aspect of this house !!! what a crying shame.
Glad you enjoyed it SRV :-) Not demolished yet but the day will come when the townhouses are all sold :-(
Nice finds 👏
What beauties. You don't have that quality workmanship anymore. Thank you so much for showing these just remarkable houses.
Glad you like them M A :-) And I agree!
Wow! How id like to see the entertaining and party's in that era.
What better way than to turn back time and find that out for ourselves in this home!!
And a perfect time out room, naughty corner for the kids!😂
One great example enjoyed and documented 👍
Hi Prue! :-) Yes I was constantly trying to picture the entertainment and parties that would have gone on in here! :-) What an amazing home. Cheers for watching
Absolutely love it! Beautiful 😍
Wow on the first home.
Had to share this video on my fb page! What a joy to watch.
It's a darned shame that such beautiful house wasn't maintained and is abandoned. You can tell that it was once loved and lively, will lived in. Certainly a loss to the world.
Agreed Mari :-) Thanks for watching
Oh, wow! What a cool place! That would be one of my favourites too 😄
2nd house - what weird brickwork!!
@29:58 All the way over here in Fremont, Ohio, USA, I have the exact same vintage light on my garage as that one. I just went to look, and it is an exact match. Small world.
Hi Tom :-) Cheers fir watching. Nice light that one too :-)
Absolutely in love, this home has stolen my heart💓. I love everything about it. Lucky you P. Stunning, I think my fav. explore to date💓💓💓💓💓💓💓💓💓
Thank you so much Jo :-) Yep one to remember this one! :-)
Very lovely home!
The first home was such a Gem , I absolutely adored it.
Thanks for sharing
You are so welcome Jaime, glad you enjoyed :-)
Thanks for the video Paul.
I love this place🎉❤
I love the stone work on the first house. That house was amazing. He second house I really like the sand stone but not too much on the bricks.
Cheers Brenda! The first wins for sure but both are ideal examples of the late 50`s here in Adelaide :-)
Wow! I don’t even like 50’s architecture but that house was amazing! The floors were something else!
What was that metal box under the hardwood floor upstairs? The gardens were lush and nice...Amazing find Paul!😊
Hi Eileen :-) that metal box was a power socket and switch outlet for something :-)
Possibly an electronic safe ?
Cool find Paul. Thanks for sharing. I really enjoyed the first home it has some awesome features.
The first home was stunning! So glad you got to it when you did! The second home was nice with the original things in it! I loved all the natural light in it! Thanks!
Thank you so much Susie, glad you enjoyed :-)
What a beautiful place, I could only dream of owning somewhere like that!
What a gem💎 Sad it's going 😢
Omg this home the first is amazing so beautiful the bathroom was incredible such a stunning home and sad that it will be going soon ❤️😺 Melbourne
What an awesome explore that was . Time capsule home that's screaming 50 s. Thank you for the tour Paul cheers.
Glad you enjoyed it John! Cheers mate :-)
What a great 50's Art Deco home. Good thing you were able to document it. Really enjoyed this explore and great music!
Glad you enjoyed it Dianne :-) Cheers for watching
Great video again Paul...my OCD kicked in with the second house when you filmed the kitchen, yeah it was grotty such a shame
Both terrific explores for different reasons. That first, of course the floors and deco features. What were the numbers on the wall in the “entertainment” room. Almost a “Hollywood” vibe with the mermaid on the bathroom floor. 2nd house wasn’t large but the stonework and the large windows were very nice. Thanks so much for the tours!
Love that first house..where that bar was upstairs looked like it was added or closed in at a later date..to me the roof doesn't match the rest of the house. The big room looks like it would have had big doors that would open out to the outdoor area..
Agreed first one ❤️❤️❤️
