- Hey house lovers and explorers!
Today we take a look at a couple of homes built around 1940. The first being an absolute stunning art deco/ginger bread style home with a 2nd level loft area and art deco themes everywhere!
I have had these homes on file for a while and have some history on the first which will have to be added in a follow up video.
The second home is very much the same old English stone Tudor style with steep pitch gables but in a larger version. Sadly the second was in the salvage stages so much of the interiors were pulled apart. These style homes with stucco rendering on the exteriors were distinct to the late 30`s and early to mid 40`s here in Adelaide.
Hope you enjoy the tour, cheers for watching :-)
Two things about tin lined cupboards, they were used mainly for bread & cakes to keep them fresh & also tin was often used to deter mice activity 🙂
Magnificent...retro.
The bathroom is trippy❤
The original cupboards, yes please!
The glass in those doors beautiful, and the fireplace OMG❤.
I believe up stairs is original.
I didn't see any major problems with the structure.
I would snap it up in a instant.
What a shame
Hi Kerrie :-) Great summary! An now elderly lady lived there for 50 years, she had to sell and move in to a home a few years ago. A neighbor informed me. Thanks for watching :-)
Two beautiful & interesting homes, what a loss for Adelaide, the people who destroy these homes probably have no souls.
Nah.... But ya should see our bank accounts !!!! HaaHaa.... We've soul doubt !!!! Hahaha
The first house was spectacular. The hardware, the art deco styling, the kitchen, the leaded glass and fireplaces, wow, just wow. The grab bars in the bathroom left me thinking that the last resident was possibly old. Who ever made the decision to take down this beauty should be ashamed of themselves. So glad you got to document it before it was gutted. Seems that developers are the same the world over. Tear down well crafted homes, built to last for many years so they can throw up shoddy built structures. Destroying beauty, replacing it with junk so that they can gather more money. Take care, stay safe and healthy.
So sad!!! I agree!!!
I love the rose and black bathroom with the art deco layout of the tiles. Another home that has no business being destroyed, but loved and lived in.
The first house is gorgeous.
It sure is GB :-) Glad you like, thanks for watching :-)
Oh…everything about the first house was perfect!! I am sad that these precious old homes aren’t saved as they can never be replaced!
That first house is just beautiful, so many cool features; the fireplace, that red bathtub. Everything very well cared for over the years. I think the castle in the yard was a water fountain.
Second house looked Iike it was very nice prior to being disassembled. *Sigh* all in the name of progress, what a damn shame. Thanks, Paul
Absolutely loved 😍 the first house and wow that salmon colored bathroom ❤
I would absolutely LOVE those kitchen cabinets in my house! (the green ones)....and that bathroom? YES PLEASE! Poor house just needs a little TLC, I would totally live in it and keep things as is. So sad the cool ones are knocked down :(
Loved the front outside of the first house. Nice inside too. Love the lead light glass. Always one my favorite things in an old home. I didn’t notice any cracks. It’s a shame to demolish it. The second house was a shame you could not get to that one before they got that far in the demolition process. Thanks for another great video ❤️.
Love that house, such a shame it will be torn down! Love the rose bathroom!
Oh I love the pink bathroom and the kitchen cupboards beautiful handles on the bedroom wardrobes the lead doors and fireplace are stunning
Cheers for watching Cat :-)
The structural integrity of that first house doesn't look comprised, it's too bad it's being torn down. From the art deco themes to the billiard room upstairs, what an amazing house!
The first home I would have moved in and loved forever … how sad to see this exquisite piece of architecture gone
This first house is stunning. That rose tiled bathroom is gorgeous! And the leaded glass doors, art deco ceiling decoration, incredible fireplace, door hardware, etc. I would live there now, and take that upper room as my bedroom! Another great video Paul.
Glad you liked it Kathy! Cheers for watching :-)
I believe the galvanized steel lined cupboard 9:25 was for dry goods, flour, cereal, etc to protect them from insects, vermin and moisture.
It is a crime to simply knock this down, the home is in good nic, and the property is beautiful. The tin lining in cabinets was to keep rodents from chewing their way in. Loved the downstairs bath…very dramatic.🖤🇨🇦
What a gorgeous home! Those stained glass windows and doors and that beautiful lounge room with the gorgeous mantle!! Thanks so much for sharing this amazing piece of history
Sorry I meant led light windows and doors
That first home was an absolute delight.
I want that fireplace,wow! Fantastic!
Paul , we sure are lucky to see the first house beforehand ,,lovely house ...The second house was huge ...Thank you Paul , for showing us these amazing properties....
Thanks, Paul. VERY peed off that house no. 1 is for demolition. Despite the sheds being empty, I'm pleased you had a look. 😊 Cheers, Ken
Hi Ken! :-) Yeah the sheds had zero in them unfortunately! Cheers for watching :-)
My fav one out of all you’ve done. Live Art Deco
Awesome MsCheermom2007 :-) It is a real gem
Awesome video Paul of two art deco homes Glad you got to the 1st one just in the nick of time. Luv that fire place, bathroom & leadlight doors of the first home, keep up the good work Paul cheers ❤️👍.
Glad you enjoyed it John :-) Thanks for watching
The first house has so much beautiful art deco from the 50's, it too petty to be demolished, it's a gem, and it was so cared for, for all those years
The first house still had so much of the original deco touches left that it was just amazing that they would allow it to be destroyed. The bathroom, door handles, glass doors, everything was still there. Such a shame.
Watching from New Jersey, US 🇺🇸 and I just love your content! Thank you Sir!
Hi Beth :-) Thanks for the support and watching :-)
I fell in love with the first house. What charm. Lovely tile and flooring.
My home was build in 1945 and I love it.
Someone loved this home and took pride in it. Beautiful kitchen, and what a fireplace and mirror. Thanks Paul.
I love the first home. Very stylish in my opinion.
Thank you to the people who are your eyes for lovely homes on the chop list like the two featured. The first home was just gorgeous, I enjoyed all the features filmed. I am picking the second home was also nice too. Yup I check your channel on FB in case I missed anything. Shame some homes cant be moved off and sited else where like Brittons (Removal Company) do here in NZ. Thanks Paul :)
You have really found some very interesting and beautiful old houses.
Thanks again for your excellent exploration.
Hello Paul well you have done it again with the first house was just awesome. Last weeks and this weeks houses would be great to see with the our own eyes. You do a great job filming these houses for us Thanks again Paul great video.
So glad you enjoyed this one too Anne :-) Cheers for the support and for watching :-)
First house - great lounge room and fire place. The billiard room would make a fantastic place for my model railway! I could even go to OO gauge.
Such a beautiful place. I would have loved to I've in that first house. Loved the fire place, flowers and vase too.
The second one look Ike it would have been nice too. Thanks for sharing
Glad you enjoyed it again M&A MT :-) Thanks for watching
Magnificent beautiful love all the interiors, the glass in the doors I would have it the stunning pink and black bathroom wow the mantle beautiful I love the expression gingerbread house good enough to eat haha! 😂. Beautiful homes gone forever such a shame really enjoyed this one thank you:-) :-) ❤️
The bars on the windows take right back to living in South Africa! It’s definitely a kitchen
A loud speaker in the bathroom. That’s different. 📢 “Come for your dinner!” 📢😂
Awsome mate yer you gotta love those art deco door handles, that old cupboard shes so retro terrazzo floors so cool. And that kitchen on the first one is magic and that impressive bathroom im loving it. And yes definately loved the first one mate cheers.
Hi mate! :-) Yeah all the fixtures and details of these places are what really adds up to compliment the era. Shame they are dropping like flies. Cheers for watching mate
Hi Paul, I always wonder what those tanks were now I know. Great tour first house was very nice. Love the colors in bathroom. The garden was nice I'm sure in it's day.
Glad you enjoyed it Patricia :-)
Great little house. Love the features. Sad it's going down. Good job filming
It's already a tradition to see your explorations with my paúl family... Excellent work friend 👍
I'm not a real big Art Deco fan but I must say that house was fantastic and if I lived there ... I would become a fan.
Urbex Indigo Thanks my friend for sharing with me this video about Abandoned- Ginger bread style cottage with Art Deco interiors! Similar 2nd home but in salvage stage it was a really nice home and i really enjoyed his video i am from the U.S.A. and i will always will watch your videos on your channel and God Bless and thanks.
Lots of good salvage between the walls , and elsewhere, the house can be moved as a whole, or disassembled then rebuilt at another location. Seasoned 85 -90 year old lumber holds up well in these older houses. Gingerbread art deco houses are a real challenge & a treat to work on.
Cheers Stephen :-) This one is still standing too! I may go back for a follow up to see if any hoons have wrecked it. Cheers for watching
Two more really cool places. Thank you Paul. 😁
Beautiful home.
The first house had so many beautiful features, I especially loved the leaded doors and balcony.
I fell in love with both of those places!! They were absolutely stunning. such a shame to see them both being demolished!!!
There wont be any left before long if this keeps up!!! Cheers for watching Heather :-)
That's a beautiful fireplace
Beautiful cabinets, love the kitchen.
I wish I could move in and take care of it. It's just too beautiful!
A fine example of our late 30`s and early 40`s Adelaide homes :-)
Can't beat art deco, stunning ❤
Great explores here, love the kitchen cupboards, Geeez that bathroom so much rose pink i can't decide if i love or hate it haha. Shame you got to the other house a little later with all the floor pulled up, but at least you got what you did. Cheers for documenting, MM :)
Glad you enjoyed again MM, thanks for watching :-)
I love those countertops!
Thank you for another great video. The first house was beautiful, such a shame that they tear them down. It makes my heart sink. Stay safe, take care, Paul. Happy Valentine's Day! Cheers!

Thanks so much Penny :-) Glad you are enjoying, yes many more to come :-)
@@urbexindigo5164 awesome 😁 I truly appreciate and enjoy all your videos hon😁🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆✌️😇🌹💖🌹💖🌹💖🌹✌️😇
What a bloody ripper mate!
Glad you enjoyed Ian! cheers mate :-)
Such a beautiful home ,so sad it is going to be demolished .I would love to live there .
I never really knew what art deco was till I started watching your channel Paul, I absolutely love it! I would live in that first house in a minute! It's a shame that the government can force people out of their homes, I would tell them to build the road around my house! Thanks for a great video!
can imaged how beautiful in its day
The first house is still quiet beautiful in appearance and condition. I agree, the gardens would have been quite spectacular and well balanced in its layout and planting. I found it unusual how the washing line was the centrepiece of the backyard.
I would say that the kitchen sink is the original by its overall size and rippled surface, most likely made by Lytton (? ) Australia, I know they were made from 1946 onwards. The Shower head @ 11:25 isn’t original, this type of pin-jet outlet came out during the late 1980’s as a water conserving fitting where low water flow would still give high pressure water jets, almost in a massage type fashion. It’s a shame this house is being demolished as it would still make a great family home with great character requiring very little work inside and only a few days work outside.
Hi Tim, so glad you enjoyed this one and yep good call on the shower head, I did rethink that when I saw it again editing the video haha :-) Cheers for watching
The first house looks in really great shape. Very nice
We love Helen! First house was amazing. Second house had great layout. (We are considering building with our move to the south and it kills me to see all the building materials etc. just get thrown out.) I do not understand having an indoor pool in your climate. One of the great joys of having a pool is to float and lay in the sun. Another great explore. Thank you once again.
OMG, that first one is absolutely charming!! Can you imagine if that bathroom sink was originally the same color as the tub!?! I'm wondering if all that in the back was water features......
I'm surprised they didn't take the windows in the second...
Agreed Patti, I so wish the original sink was there!!!! :-)
The charming Art Deco Gingerbread style home 🏡has so many lovely original features. The second house 🏠looks like might have been used as a carers or respite facility. Both interesting explores thanks Paul.
Hi Julz! :-) Yeah that second house had been arranged and redone for something. Cheers for watching again :-)
I love that kitchen
My Nan used to have an Electrical heater just like that one , and we now have it in our garage but haven't used it for many years
That rose and black bathroom in the first house was beautiful
I loved that bathroom in the first house, 2nd house the kitchen seemed small. It would be even smaller with all the kitchen stuff inside.
What a stunning place, love the leaded glass in the lounge doors, Art Deco is my fave era. The best bit for me is the loft room and the lovely balcony! I’d always be up there. The castle in the garden is hilarious… possibly a water feature? Great explore Paul!
Glad you enjoyed it Richie lol yep on that water feature too, makes more sense haha :-)
What a beautiful home-I would love to have that and refurbish it!!!!!😍
Absolutely gorgeous wish we could save this beauty 🙏❤️
Good evening Paul the first home was beautiful love everything in it didn’t see anything wrong with it. Second one was cute. Thank you for sharing have a wonderful week 😊
Paul I loved the first home the cabinets with the Art Deco the fireplace was amazing the glass doors and pool room and balcony area, I could live in this home sad to see it go. Great share Helen and Paul.
Good morning Paul, what grand couple of houses ,the first one that backyard would of been so beautiful and they left so much things ,I wish they could save it and everything in it my heart aches everytime I see these gorgeous houses being demolished , great work as usual . have a great week till next Sunday big 🤗 from a Frenchy in Australia 🇫🇷🇦🇺👍👍👍👍
Hi Frenchy! :-) Yes it is sad that this period and the art deco influenced homes of the late 30`s and 40`s are not really valued or sought after like a lot of us think they should be. Out with the old it seems. Cheers for watching again :-)
Thanks for the video Paul.
Love the first house. Wish it was here in Texas USA.
Wonderful video
so pretty and so unique features.
Wow love that bathroom amazing ❣️
cupboard is great love the cracked ice counter top.
That's a beautiful home and should be saved and not torn down.
The Gables was beautiful. A real character home, not to be seen again. So sad.
First home - hoping they salvage, what wonderful bathrooms and cupboards.
Man so sad that these last 2 or 3 places have been slated to be demolished because they have been so cool and would be great first homes for a lot of people.
Edit (1).....
This kitchen is huge ....love it and the cabinets, cupboards are nice. Love that dark rose colored bathroom beautiful color.
That first house is amazing, love it. Such a shame its getting demolished.
This one is nice too.
sad to see that house get tore down, that is a very nice house,
Nice kitcken cupboards and the pool table was a ikea version i guess, the second house had a great pool wow.
Very nice 👍
At least they're salvaging what they can before demolishing. In videos I've watched in Europe they often leave everything in the homes or mansions and the places are left to decay. The Deco house was fascinating.
02:06 i like those chairs
What a beautiful house
That has to be the coolest place I have seen from you yet really cool 😎👍 place
What a beautiful house. Its heart breaking. Why is adelaide knocking all the beautiful old houses down, its so sad
It's such a shame that these homes especially the first one are disappearing from the towns, its seems nobody is interested in preserving history of these homes until it's too late.
Nice 😀
Just finished the first home and what a heartbreaker! That was a fabulous home!! The tin lined cabinet in the kitchen was for storing things like flour, rice, etc as pests can’t easily get in with the tin lining. And the tin lined section in the tall cabinet may have been similar - perhaps for storing breads and rolls or veggies. They could easily be switched around, of course.
All the details in this home, inside and out, make it so special. Or should I say, sadly, MADE it special. 😢
I’m wondering about the loft space as well. I think the billiards room part was original, but wondering if the French doors originally just left to a Juliet balcony (the same one that’s there) and that little enclosed porch room was added later and the balcony attached back to that? 🤷🏼♀️ Don’t know, but it would seem to fit better…
On to the second home! BTW, Thanks for risking life and limb in battle with the rose bushes on our behalf!
