  • Hey house lover's and explorers! Thought I would surprise you all with an early week surprise of another old farm house. This one was a beauty and only ever had what seems to be a very basic attempt and lighting off a battery or generator. built in the early 1900s there is old wall paper with newspaper dates as well. a magnificent old stove/ and some outbuildings. And all while myself and Werner were out here filming as the full moon came up over the hills. Hope you all enjoy the explore. Cheers for watching 🙂👍

    Greetings from Florida! 🦩🌴🐊 I love the quiet of the countryside and enjoy your videos. Hope someone can tell us about those lights. Had thought they might’ve been gas fed? 🤷🏼‍♀️ Had also never seen this wallpaper method. Very cool. 1917… Armistice Day was Nov 1918.

    • @JohnShinn1960
      @JohnShinn1960 Před 2 měsíci

      I was thinking gas fed as an electric light needs two wires to operate at that one in the summer kitchen had one, a thin gas tube I'm thinking.

    You beauty! 😊 A lovely old home! Someone truly loved it, judging from the condition of the mantle and stove. It was exciting to see the date on the newspaper. I bet the missing floor is being used in another home. And the light! Wow! Loved the shot of the full moon and dead tree. What a great find! Congratulations!

    Full moon rising. Very atmospheric, Paul! The verandah posts seemed to have "feet" which were a later addition to try and prevent them from rotting. My grandma (she was a "Cousin Jenny" from Moonta, S.A.) used to have a stove exactly like that one & the goodies she produced from it were extraordinary. Sunday roasts & Cornish pasties to light fluffy sponge cakes...

    Love to see the original ones. Wallpaper and original colour schemes are my kind of thing. Paint colours before the 30's where mixed by hand by each painter. So colours varied slightly between painters and areas of the country. Wish there was an easy way to scan/paint match the colours in these homes for historic sake. As once their lost, they're lost forever. Was able to paint match several of my original paint colours and reinstate them.
    Also newspaper was put behind the wallpaper, I am guessing moisture has caused the ink to transfer into the actual wallpaper. And if Wallpaper was hung on lining boards it also had hessian behind it, most likely to smooth out the lining boards.

    • @urbexindigo5164
      @urbexindigo5164  Před 2 měsíci

      Hey mate 😁 it is certainly always interesting when Lino or flooring is up along wall falling wallpaper to get a glimpse of how things were done. Your place must be very nicely done by the sounds. Good stuff and Thanks for watching 🙂👍

    In some cases newspaper was used as a lining between old wallpaper and new wallpaper to achieve a better grip for the wallpapers especially if one of them had a smooth face. 18:00 When in the kitchen I thought you were going to tell us the wiring was for a door bell.😂

    Read the writing on the wall there, one would never be bored.
    👍😉
    Looks restorable and I like the corrugated ceilings, never seen those before.
    Thanks for the tour Paul, I almost let this one slip by.
    Note:
    13:55 It being only one conductor, that would not light a light, if it was a hollow tube maybe it was for a propane gaslight, the fixture in the summer kitchen. It could've also been a ground wire for an old battery powerd radio set.

      @urbexindigo5164  Před 2 měsíci +1

    Someone could make a killing retrieving and selling (and refurbishing) all the beautiful old stoves in these abandoned properties. Such a shame they’re sitting there, rotting away… I noticed this home didn’t have a bathroom 🤔 I wonder if that open space to the left of the kitchen where you thought the generator may have gone was where they showered?

    The centered door knob just grabs my heart. The wood and wire coat hanger next to the old work jacket is a great find. An electrified wire channeled through a metal roof is kind of scary. Oh thank you for the shot of the moon over the hills and the dead tree in the foreground. It is wonderful!

    G'day, such a shame that people walk away from the farm it must have been hard times and heart breaking, my grandparents were on a farm when l was a kid and they only had a 32 volt generator for a lighting system and water pump, the fridge was run on gas, no television so when visiting we played games and cards at night, l love them so much, all gone now, thanks for the videos love watching them, cheers mate, Neil 🤠.

    Such a treat to see such history within this just spectacular home, I,d love to restore a building like this for free if I knew of it, should get birds out and shut it up to prevent more damage, is storm water rain tank getting any water, if not roofs and spouting is the start point, with water comes clean walls doors frames floors windows and cardboards, clean flues on fires and then light them up to wake this house back up
