    In Earth's early days, it was slammed by protoplanet Theia. This left our world spinning on a tilted axis. But what if the Theia crash had flipped Earth 90 degrees? And why could living in Alaska help you live on a sideways Earth?

    He said that all the ice would melt. but wouldn't the just melt form the pole experiencing summer and form on the poles experiencing winter? in this case, the pole with summer will cause the sea levels to rise, and the pole with winter would lower the sea levels, neutralizing each other, so it won'tbe that dramatic. Also the variation would decrease the nearer the equator gets, at the equator there would be a never-ending sunset .

    If mars-sized planet were to collide with earth, there will be nothing but asteroid belt left behind. Earth originally had formed together with Saturn as it closely shares its axial tilt, before Sun captured Saturn with earth and seasons as we know began. Saturn transformed from brown dwarf into gas giant due to mass loss in cometary flaring. Physicist Wal Thornhill talks about it in Star Proto-Saturn video.

      collision with Theia also gave us the moon, so it would bear more consequences than just not happening. no tides would be a problem afaik
      ongoing presence of Theia would require a trojan position afaik. you can place 2 objects in same orbit and both remain stable but they have to keep 60 degrees distance, if i remember correctly.
      such a close Theia would be an obvious object of interest of observation and space travels. as it would stay in the goldilocks zone of sun like us: very interesting if any sort of live would bloom there too, completely separate from us.

    If the Earth were spinning on its side, it would have a significant impact on the planet's climate and weather patterns. The tilt of the Earth's axis is what causes the seasons, with the northern and southern hemispheres experiencing opposite seasons at any given time. If the Earth were spinning on its side, the tilt would be different, which would change the way the sun's energy is distributed around the planet.
    The change in the tilt of the Earth's axis would also affect the distribution of the sun's energy across the planet, which would change the climate and weather patterns. This could result in some areas experiencing extreme temperatures and weather conditions, while other areas may become much colder or drier.
    The change in the tilt of the Earth's axis would also have a significant impact on the planet's ecosystems and the distribution of plant and animal life. It could cause significant changes in the habitats of many species, leading to extinctions, and altering the balance of nature.
    It's important to note that the Earth's current axial tilt is a result of a complex interplay of factors, including the planet's orbit, rotation, and the gravitational pull of the Moon and other celestial bodies. Changing the tilt of the Earth's axis would require a massive amount of energy and it's highly unlikely that it would happen naturally.

    Wouldn’t they just build structures to protect the fields from the scorching Sun during the colder months? Even placing cities in a shield or bubble type of contraption to house the cities so them temperature could be regulated within?

    What if we put a giant dome around the moon like in Futurama (no not the lunar park I mean the one from the tv movie where they built a giant glass sphere around the earth)

    What if the Earth and the Moon spun at the same speed or time?

    • @rivenoak
      @rivenoak Před 2 lety +2

      moon is currently tidal locked; with any change in speed it would show us whole moon surface over time for a given location on earth.
      but if Earth gets lazy and spins once every month only like moon does ? woah, this is a game changer. :)
      great story for another "What If" for sure
