There was a special on the Discovery Channel years ago that asked the same question. In their version, the shape of the Earth didn't change, but the atmosphere did revert to being a sphere, making the air unbreathably thin at the equator due to the increased "elevation".

It depends whether we were tidally locked to the sun. If we were, it wouldn't be a 6 month day/night, it would be permanent sun - and extreme heat - on one side and permanent dark - and extreme cold - on the other.

Please please do what if the earth was ovoid! I want to know what gravity, oceans, our orbit, the moon, etc would do if earth was somewhat irregular/oval shaped instead of a sphere.

What if the Earth's orbit was a straight line instead of a circle
Its axis is already a straight line, that's what an axis is. You mean its orbit? ie, what if it went through space in a straight line rather than orbiting the sun?
If the Earth's orbit were a straight line it would be a rogue or "free floating" planet not bound to a star - Yes, they exist. They are dark, but not necessarily as cold as you may think. If they have geothermal energy that could warm them, and the lack of stellar winds mean they would be more likely to hold onto their atmosphere.
I could be wrong but I think we would just get too far from the sun and freeze, unless something big enough to wipe us out entirely hit us first
Unless of course the straight line is moving toward the sun, then the opposite would be the case.
@@masonbrownlow3889 I am an astrophysics major and I believe this is the case. If it were a straight line, the Earth would fly off into interstellar space, and very quickly we all would freeze to death.
I don't know why Every time I watch these I have a whole different concept of what I have imagined. No content creator can't even get these videos right.
Like, I imagined what if Earth stood at a stand still but WITHOUT all the chaos and changes building up to that stand still... only until after, those changes start to occur. Like after the stand still. No whiplash included just start the content where the Earth is at a stand still.

Rotation is NOT measured in "distance traveled/time" (in the case of this video, "meters per second"). That is a linear measurement. Rotation is an angular measurement and is measured in "rotations/time". In the Earth's case that is an angular velocity of fifteen degrees per hour, or 360 degrees per 24 hours.

You forgot to tell them that the mega continent that now envelops the Earth is uninhabitable. This is because the air would be too thin to breathe. All the air will follow the water to the north and south poles. There will be a rather thin strip of livable land near the beaches of the now 2 massive oceans.

At 6:43 I think you may have been juuust a little mistaken. My apologies in advanced if I'm wrong. But according to your scenario if the earth completely stopped rotating wouldn't it become tidally locked with the Sun? Only one side of the planet will always face the Sun. This mean one side of the Earth will always be daytime while the other side will always be night time. Oh, the moon is also tidally locked to the earth already which will be an interesting effect and visual! If one day lasts 6 months then that means daytime and night time are 3 months a piece. Your statement describes what's called synchronous rotation and if my math is right, a different video scenario. It'll be "What if Earth's rotation slowed down by half?"!
This depends on your point of reference. Being tidally locked means that the planet is rotating a full 360 degrees in the same amount of time it takes it to make a full orbit around the sun, which means it's still rotating.
Ironically... they actually got that part wrong. Depending on your point of reference there either wouldn't be a day/night cycle, or a day would last a year. So them saying 6 months is wrong.
