Just for the avoidance of doubt all these bikes are RIDDEN regularly not decorative pieces as somebody suggested. Covid stopped a bit or riding of course except for shopping for essentials like Pork Pie and Beer . Variety is great isn't it ? they all have a value and who knows there might even be a Japanese one lurking under one of the covers.
All machines ethically sourced before anybody asks!!
Thanks for sharing some of your great collection. Very interesting.
"All machines ethically sourced before anybody asks!!"
Are they free range though?
During Covid I loved my regular trips out for bread and milk, occasionally to the next village 4 miles away. 👍
What I learned from Arthur`s interview is that he doesn`t have a selfish bone in his body, but he's`rather a very caring and giving person. His family, friends, and neighbours know this for sure, as do all of us that watch TCMC now. For it isn't normal to find owners of such a collection as Arthur's to share his bikes publicly every time he leaves his house.
Sure, some of us seen these bikes in museums, but when do we get the chance to hear the engine? Hear the gears change? And smell the exhaust?
That is what Arthur brings to those lucky enough to run into him during his outings sharing his wonderful collection.
I envy his neighbours that get to hear and see these great machines on a routine base's.
What a guy, what a collection. He's living the dream.
Thank Heavens .....for gentlemen like this who take the time and spend the cash to keep these wonderful machines and this mechanical heritage alive. I salute you and this channel. Merry Christmas to all.
Thanks for sharing Arthur's collection with us. It's an amazing collection of bikes, but even more impressive is Arthur - he's a font of knowledge. Best of all was learning that he rides these bikes!

Awesome bikes with a great story and story teller, thank you
To drill rubber, put it in the deep freeze first, depending on the rubber, it should be firm enough to drill.
Good idea, thanks

True to the motto "everything has already been said, but not yet by everyone": Beyond brilliant! With all collections of this kind, I always hope that they will stay together and that there will be young people who will continue them in the spirit of the founders.
I had a green and silver Ducati gtl500, bought it new in Sydney in 1976, 30,000 klm without fault. I forced myself to check the points one day at around 25 k, perfectly gapped, platinum, every thing was first class design and quality. Under the seat was a masterpiece in clarity and order, amazing design. I loved the look, it rode beautifully, craven rack and top box fitted, never a issue. I traded it for a Gts 900 bevel drive tourer, what a mistake that was. Nothing but trouble, electrical, big end, gearbox, you name it it failed. I wish I still had my lovely little 500.
Me too. But 1978. Paid $900 IIRC.
Thank you for sharing this unique collection of British and Italian machines. Arthur’s enthusiasm and knowledge is inspiring and thanks John for just letting him tell his story.
Wow! What a collection! And it looks like that's only a portion. You can see his love for bikes over decades. 👍
What a great old boy Arthur is….such knowledge. The silk motorcycles looked ahead of their time
Hello,
On your H-R-D, Rubber blocks and drilling, I have found a good way was to set the pieces into a small container filled with Dry-Ice, long enough to thoroughly freeze them, which will vary according to size.
Have everything to drill them ready to go, and even do some dry runs with the pieces, without actually drilling them to be sure you will have no problems. Sometimes the dry runs will help you streamline your process.
Your antagonist here will be time, and using it the most efficient way possible before the rubber begins to warm, and soften !!! To complete your drilling while the rubber is still hard will be ideal !!! Try a practice piece first if you can in your trial runs.
Happy is the man who can indulge his passion endlessly over the course of his life.
Restoration Tip: I have had to fabricate rubber bushes myself a couple of times. Look for a rubber part that is close in shape to begin with. Then place it in the freezer for a couple of days first. It can be drilled, machined much easier and to a better tolerance if frozen. I have even beadblasted it. But you must get everything set up beforehand, due to a limited work time. If it starts softening before you are finished, put it back in the freezer and start again in a few days. As with all restoration work, patience is your best asset.
If my late father was still around, he would be turning green with envy. His dream machine was what he termed an "HRD 1000". Needless to say he never owned one but at one time, he had a Rudge 250, which was his favourite of the bikes he owned.
Thumb's up for that splendid show-and-tell. I hope you'll reprise that visit with another to look at the rest of Arthur's eclectic stable. Honestly, I could watch that fellow share his knowledge for hours and hours. Thanks again!
Thankyou for a tour of Arthur's collection. A real prevelige😍
This gent has superb taste, thanks for sharing
What a beautiful collection bikes .
Wow ,a man that has so many very rare machines who actually rides them and knows everything about them a bit like my 40 years in collecting records, hats off to your channel and Arthur 🇬🇧🍀👍
Every bikers dream , thanks for showing .
Thanls. it was a good watch and great to see bikes in such great condition and obviously cherished.
Wow used to love the look of Silk's. Only seen one in the wild though.
This is a proper gentleman and enthusiast here. Enjoyed every second of that video. Many thanks to all involved!
Hi... From India🇮🇳
What a great bloke.
Lovely. Thank goodness for people to save and care for these beauties.
Those old bikes are Beautiful, more like art.'
I'm in total awe. Thank you Arthur for sharing your collection with us
What a boy..What a boy.!! Thank you for sharing this .I saw my first Scott 350 in car dealership in Guildford ,astounding never could afford one ..still love them today long live the squirrel
What a collection ! I'd Love to have just one of them , like that 1926 HRD !!!!! A lucky man he is . That's a hard working man !
My late father owned a Rudge bicycle when he was growing up. Wasn't into motorcycles himself, but used to zoom up and down the East Lancs dual carriageway post WWII on the back of a BSA 650. No speed restrictions in those days.
very interesting collection. Arthur is a very knowledgable man. Enjoyed the video.
Fascinating episode.
collezione veramente straordinaria,di un vero appassionato della storia della moto
I owned a Sport Desmo - a container of them were shipped out here to Australia in the early 1980's - a bike now much missed.
Likewise Graeme, unfortunately I wrote mine off in an argument with a Datsun 180B.
I had a red 500 desmo sport : Beautiful bike , great frame , great brakes but no power for a 500cc...
wow what great collection of bikes
Fascinating collection. Thank you for the glimpse
thanks for showing your bikes
Drilling rubber: You may have luck with a cork borer. Anyway, thanks for a very interesting video!
That 350 HRD is beautiful, what a machine.
Fabulous collection of bikes - sounds like he's packed in the miles and the fun over the years - great stuff . . .
Extraordinaire. Merci
well done arthur, he probably realises tyat although he owns the bikes he is also a custodian for all of us, thanks arthur
Danke für die Vorstellung dieser absolut interessanten Sammlung. Schön auch zu sehen, wie bei Arthur jeder Handgriff sitzt. Er lebt Motorrad Enthusiasmus. Klasse!
Ausserortdentlich! (hope that`s close, its the only German word I can think of ;)
Great video of your collection, Arthur! Take that rubber and put it in the freezer overnight. Pull it out and drill it immediately. It certainly helps!
wow, unobtaineum, and a fascinating look at a unique rider, thank you
What an interesting and knowledgeable man, and of course with a fabulous / unusual collection! We may have met as I lived in Leicester for the entire 90s and attended many shows. But my entire collection was stolen on a night when about six other enthusiasts were also attacked. Nothing was recovered for any of us as far as I am aware. Nowadays I live in Devon, but don't sleep with my only bike - a Honda Valkyrie Interstate as it's a struggle to get her into bed. A shame as she's seriously pretty and never wears a chain, even on a weekday.
what a treat! thanks to both of you!
Never heard of Silk. This man is a saviour. Keep up the good work.
He is wonderful man and has a fantastic collection of beautiful motorcycles. Thank you for sharing .
Incredible! The man is a national treasure.
Thanks for the tour Arthur loved every moment 👍
What a wonderful collection of rare an interesting bikes. Thank-you for sharing them with us. It is nice to see bikes ridden and not kept as museum pieces.
Excellent video. I remember all those bikes from the 1970s but could never afford them.
Thanks so much to Arthur for sharing some of his mouth watering collection with us.
Silks.... Now We're Talking!!! 😁😁
What a fantastic video, I loved seeing Arthur's collection of amazing bikes, he's the kind of guy I could talk to for hours and hours, reminds me of Peter Murray from the I.O.M who is a lovely bloke and has the same passion for bikes of all makes and shapes. Thanks for sharing :)
Wow was gab es für super bikes thanks
I hope you have a couple kitty cats to keep the mice at bay.
That desmo idles nice & smooth!
It's the first one I've ever seen.
Super bikes!
Fabulous bikes , I am jealous !
After seeing a Flying Squirrel in a local garage some years ago and talking to the owner I always fancied one, this never came into fruition, then to my great surprise I saw this modern looking bike with a Scott engine, I thought at first it was a special! only later to realise it was a Silk. I saw a riders review in a bike magazine and was pleased that the tester gave it a great review, still never managed to own one! but great to see.
have had some success drilling rubber by first leaving in the freezer to be more solid then drill slowly to avoid heat
Thank you for opening your garage to us love the passion!
Lovin that Ducati, Looks like it would be a lovely ride.......
What a beautiful collection of bikes,
Really enjoyed the video and commentary , fascinating 👍
very nice collection ❤❤❤
Gotta love this video. Could see myself on that green Duc 500.
Absolutely brilliant. Love Arthur's collection.
What an amazing collection of classic hardware; what an amazing man.
Drool drooool droool did i say i was droooling at this collection 👍wow.....
I have only seen the Silk bikes in green never any other colors. I am very interested in them , thanks for the video.
I've been into riding since the 1960s and Arthur has several motorcycles I never heard of before. The Hesketh was big news when it came out, magazines gushed about its brute of a twin and quality construction, and here sits one all ready to go for a ride. If you want to learn of British motorcycling, Arthur has the personal experience and knowledge to pass on to the worthy.
Thanks for posting this.
A friend of mine (my best man) worked on those Hesketh bikes, during their development. Once they went into production I test rode an unfaired one and also the faired version. Turned out they were the same bike! A great thing to ride, but way too high in the saddle for this short-arse to be a practical purchase.
Proper gent and moto enthusiast there. Thanks Arthur and thanks for another great video CMC.
wonderful collection! drilling rubber... is a pain in the .... however, when we do it, we use a hollow kind of drill and perhaps some washing soap as lubricant. thx for sharing!
Thankyou Arthur such wonderful motorcycles and some motorcycle history..well done 👍✨🏆🌞🐝
Lovely trip down memory lane my late father had lots of the marques shown here a lovely Velo Rudge multi Coventry eagle to mention a few I myself had a Morini Strada in about 1980 rode like it was on rails thanks for showing us your marvellous collection cheered me up on a cold Welsh morning
brilliant stuff. many thanks 👍
Arthur (my old mate). dont forget me in your will!
always great admiration for private collectors
What a great video, well done to the owner for allowing you to see and hear some of his bikes.
I briefly had a 500 GTL years ago. Best thing was selling it for what it cost me. 😂 Seriously, although it was beautiful to ride, small, pretty light, great brakes, beautiful handling, and I didn't mind the looks, the standard motor was as slow as a wet weekend. A Honda 250 was quicker. It wasn't reliable and things would be fall off. I'd bought it with plans of long distance two up riding. Yeah nah, it was never up for that job. Bought an 860GTS which was up to the task, taking us many happy km, except for... well, that's another story. 😁
What a brilliant collection and so wonderful to share it with us!
What a brilliant show ...I knew Arthur back in the 70s through Morini riders club ...his collection is superb so many different motorcycles..last time I a series A was in Milton Keynes...I was overtaken by a Silk once ....they really handled well I could not get near it ...thank you for this one its my favourite
Brilliant. Loved every minute of your tour.
Ok Arthur, I will tell you how to drill, saw, slice rubber.
Use water, get an assistant with a squeeze bottle, thin but continuous stream right close up to the hole.
Back up your workpiece, clamp 2 pieces together as drilling through to the second piece avoids a ragged end.
Don't drive the cut, exert pressure only just sufficient to take a shaving & no more.
Slowly goes without saying, the work must progress cold.
The bits you use are of critical importance. Don't use conventional bits as these have "lands" & they tear the work. Use instead.........
For small diameter holes, use the "landless" bits made specifically for drilling thin sheet metal. Ask a sheet metal where they get theirs from.
For large diameter holes use a woodworking bit made for an auger. These are various, but the one you want looks like a spiral shaped shaft, it has a tip worm to center & draw the bit in, it has twin beveled bed cutters that take a shaving from the bottom of the hole, & it has twin side cutters in the form of two nibs that simultaneously cut the sides of the hole cleanly on the landless principle.
Same principles apply for both sawing & slicing rubber. If sawing, use a saw with no "set", that is the teeth are straight, as opposed to the alternate tooth set side & side. Again, the landless principle to avoid the tearing that results in a ragged cut.
Have fun. AU
Thanks for putting this together so much knowledge about his bikes
What a beautiful collection,and great chap👌❤️
Wonderful eclectic collection! Those beautiful machines were built to be ridden and Arthur has and continues to do so. Good on him for it! That Egli Vincent is the stuff of dreams! Cheers!
Fabulous! Thank you both for sharing this wonderful collection. Happy Holidays!
Thank you Arthur for sharing your passion and your exquisite motorcycle collection. You obviously like the quality engineering touches on these machines. It’s also lovely to see you ‘share’ them with trusted people. Your right, theses motorcycles are for sharing and how better to get the next generation interested in them. I live in Australia and have a Ducati SD900 Darmah that I’ve owned for forty three years now. It’s currently going through it’s fourth rebuild.
Cheers,
Col
