  • The 1970 Chevy Chevelle SS 454 was a slightly less obvious pick of muscle car in the 'older days' of Gran Turismo, but a very strong all round choice nonetheless. With a big 7.4 V8, the highest horsepower rating of any muscle car in its time of 450 bhp, and great looks, its a wonder that it isn't even more popular than the Charger or Mustang. Its back now in GT7 though, for the first time in full HD glory, and with some pretty interesting visual upgrades...
''The Chevrolet Chevelle introduced in 1964 was available in an SS-grade sports model, but this version was only for looks.
In the following year of 1965 however, the Chevelle SS was transformed into a full-blown high-performance car, with a 396ci OHV V8. From then on the Chevelle SS was only offered with this 396ci unit, drawing a clear line between it and the previous SS. In 1970, the Chevelle SS went on to be called the most powerful intermediate model on the market. The engine lineup now consisted of the 396ci, an enlarged 402ci model, and an even larger 454ci.
The option codes for the two types of 454ci models offered were the LS5 and LS6. The former produced 355 HP with a compression of 10.25:1, and the compression of the latter was raised to 11.25:1, and combined with high cams and high flow headers it produced 449 HP. This was the most powerful catalog model engine in the history of American cars in its day.
The LS6-equipped Chevelle SS 454 was immediately recognized as a very special model, with its wild power output unheard of for a street car. Equipped with a straight exhaust and carburetor settings, it is said to have easily exceeded 493 HP and was the big contender in stock class drag racing.''

CHEVELLE IS A LOT MORE ICONIC THAN YOU THINK, and using the wide body deletes the vinyl top

One thing I have to say is I absolutely love how this car sounds! They did a fantastic job with that! Overall a really cool addition!

If it sounds so good why does it sound totally different in Garage?

@@user-iy6nu8np5k The garage sounds are real life sound recordings. Every car in game sounds better in the garage due to that.

@@lordmegatron65 That is what i am saying, i hope in next game they get closer to that, GT7 HAS BAD SOUNDS for muscle cars in chase cam.

@@user-iy6nu8np5k Would definitely be an upgrade! The cars sound better in game when I use the interior camera! GT's engine sounds do continue to get better and better, so hopefully at some point they get just as accurate in game as they do in the garage menus!

@@lordmegatron65 As they said in some sort of presentation about how they make and record car sounds for the game, they can't make them 1 to 1 to the real life cars because of performance issues with the console, so with more powerful hardware they can improve on the cars sounds

This was already one of my most favourite muscle cars, and I love it when PD add a car that I already love.

I was very impressed with its stock handling, especially the turn in and front end grip out the box. Took it to Tsukuba bone stock and ran 1:06 on comfort soft tyres

I'm definitely happy to see the Chevelle back. It is one of my favourite Muscle Cars from this time period. I feel like we now have all the iconic muscle cars from the late 60s early 70s time frame and I wouldn't mind not seeing anymore, probably since I'm not the biggest fan of these cars in general since they all just feel and look kinda samey to me. For some reason the Chevelle has stood out to me over the years as one I like more than a lot of them, and I'm not entirely sure why. The drag wing option is unusual, but quite fun, and I may try making a 700pp Le Mans tune for this car and seeing how it goes. While the Skoda VGT is the highlight of this update in terms of fun to drive (since it is unfortunately next to useless for events), the Chevelle is a welcome addition and I'm happy with how PD have implemented it.

One little nitpick I have is I wish PD let us remove the vinyl top without adding a widebody to it.

I wish muscle cars sounded better in chase cam. Like how they sound in garage, they don't sound like that at all when you revv them yourself in track.

That Chevelle is actually more iconic than a Boss Mustang or a Charger to many, It had the highest rated horsepower engine of any car in the American muscle Era of the late 60s early 70s. Also 900 Hp isn't even half what a real big block Chevy V8 is capable of with the right upgrades lol 😆

i think of the chevelle, 73 challenger , Ford Torino , Thunderbird of the same era as Muscle cars for grown ups like one in thier 40s are who like to cruise in it , and not drag race between the lights like a Camaro/firebird , mustang or even the charger

I had a Chevelle years ago. A drunk girl smashed into it while she was driving an Oldsmobile bravada and totaled my car. I was devastated. I was able to recreate her in game and I'm glad they brought this back. A true underrated muscle car. The wing however looks stupid.

I’m curious how this one’s gonna be, I know that the 429 with an old school nascar build with racing tires at 700 is money so that’s gonna be my benchmark
