So pleasing to see michigan have their day spoiled
Didn't affect placement, but 1 hour seemed fair.

They cost japan the win. They wouldn't let them pass for an hour. Without that slowdown they would have been 1st.
The Car from Delft burns down,
Commentary from Michigan:
"We started this morning in fourth place, we're now in third."
Such a contrast to the Belgian spokesperson who was almost crying about it
yeah, he also said something about the best strategy is to focus on your own car. cheap words after blocking the japanese team.
As if Michigan did something to move forward in position.
Arrogant, cheats, utterly disliked!
Yeh michigans are arrogant, they had it coming

*Gets 1 hour penalty* : :( its so frustrating >>:(
In my mind, Tokai were the real winners. They had the best design for the toughest part of the race. They prepared for the slow speed and high speed parts of the race. The speed limits imposed for 2 hours, along with the unethical driving by the American team prevented them from overtaking Agoria.
they also started after Stanford so they clawed their way up
I've been rooting for Japan ever since Michigan messed with them
In my opinion, this behavior deserves a temporary or permanent ban, as it may have impacted final standing with high probability...
I've been rooting since the guy said this is his life's work he seemed humble and conservative I liked the whole team's demeanor
@@Thegbiggamerz Like even in the part where they were saying that the speed limit was hurting their advantage, they chose to roll with it. They were really humble. The vehicle was obviously well designed. They could run top speed in the end without any complications. At least 2 cars burned that way but they did not. Also, the part of high speed and low-speed motors were genius.
@@Thegbiggamerz I also like whole demeanor of the driver. He's so chill and composed when he's explaining stuff.
Me too, actually they should have been given back the time they lost due to the dirty unsporty tactics from Michingan... and then they might have won the race
Tokai's design is just beautiful, they may have won if Michigan didn't interfere but Belgians also encountered obstacles on the road, a crash, a hard fixing night, construction so they deserved it. Also, the Sonnenwagen should be mentioned, their perseverance was inspiring.
Well said, you hit all the important points there
Apart from Michigan, every one deserved it.

gotta love the 'Murricins bein' more brawn than brains as usual 😂🤣 ! (murricaw 1st ; netherlands second ;-) !
Michigan guy ‘we questioned the basis of penalties and it didn’t change the outcome..’, well your team embarrassed the country by playing dirty, that is what has changed.

This one of those rare times i can feel proud of my country, even we „only“ finished 6
As someone from Cleveland, I love to see Michigan having to rely on dirty, scummy tactics to be competitive. Just like in everything they do. It shows how much better everyone else is than them.
As someone from Michigan (the state, not the university) I have to agree and also disagree with this. I hate what they did, and I’m glad they got penalized and sent to the back like they deserved, but putting a blanket statement on it being everything they do is far from correct. They have one of the best medical programs in the nation, and some of the most well renowned and sought after surgeons in the country come out of their, it’s just incredibly unfortunate to see that reputation get pissed on by bad sportsmanship, both in this competition and in some collegiate sports. But yeh just had to clarify that they aren’t scummy in everything they do, and in actuality do have some pretty amazing academics.
University of Michigan really is the worst. The team in this series is representative of every interaction I’ve had with a Wolverine. Their reputation is well earned.
Disclaimer: I’m a Michigan State graduate. Our reputation as a less rigorous party school is also well earned...
Michigan was so far back that they literally stopped mentioning how far back they were.
My sympathies to the teams who did not finish because of adversity. And, to the members of Team Michigan who did not make the decision to cheat. All of your hard work was forfeited by those who did.
Belgium won but we all were rooting for Tokai
And probably hoped that Michigan's battery ran out
Sonnawagen did great , they crossed the finish even after that brutal crash
@Flipinstein you mean high key because i certainly wished michigan had a baftery fire. Their antics had costed the japanese team valuable time that could have resulted in a potential first place finish, but was penalized in a way that didnt equate to the value of the time lost.
"The best way to win is to focus on your own car."
Michigan's Lead Car: [Insert the long dead "Are you sure about that?" meme here]
Yeah I was thinking the same thing. Mate, you should have done that from the start instead of blocking other teams.

Wow. I've never watched Solar racing before but this was fascinating. Watching the lead car burn to the ground was a real heartbreaker.

Probably. I wouldn't take away anything from Agoria. They also worked hard. But yeah. F Michigan.
Dont forget the speed limit
@@emonand5988 speed limits are for nerds
I distinctly remember my daughter, around 25 years ago, when the race ran through Kansas, had me take her to one of the checkpoints, and then to the overnight site to meet the team from a university she was considering. That was back in the day of the super thin flying saucer cars, and before lithium. It was the third or fourth race. It was amazing then, and still is.
lucky her for being able to see the teams, and thats rlly cool!
Kansas? I think you got the wrong race dude. WSC has always been in Australia
Well, ok, it was a solar race across the us that went through kansas sometime in the 90s.
Ok, it was sunrayce 97. Which had a checkpoint in Topeka and an overnighr a kansas state in Manhattan. She was checking out the Univ of Mo. At Rolla team. That race is now called the american solar challenge.
@@RickBoat Still pretty cool. Did she become an engineer?

I began watching this series because of my love for racing and technology. I stayed to watch Michigan lose.

@@ButterflyEnte doesn’t matter. No one’s remembers third. And the penalty bothered them more because now every Michigan team is just gonna look at that time like they look at their competitors.

There are two trophys. One is significantly larger. You can see both at 18:55
8:41 They barely can hold their laugh “OMG WE WON” 😂😂
so true
must've been so hard for them. They're so excited but they can't show it cause of moral issue's xD
I really didn't expect to be this much interesting.
Damn they need like emergency battery ejection systems
Which will add weight, for the same weight you can add more battery safety equipments
I was like, 'That's actually a great idea...' Then I pictured a post-collision flying incendiary object that might also explode on impact and/or rain airborne Blackfyre broadly and at speed...
Ok, so it'd be horrific, but maybe we can still sell it if we include a Sham-Wow... Maybe 2...
that would probably take too much weight and extra mechanical openings which are too expensive and difficult to fix in the car, but it would be more safe
Or make a rule that the batteries have to maintain a minimum charge well above the critical voltage
The easily accessible battery bank as displayed by Stanford’s solar car design is preferable over an ejection system.
Vattenfall’s battery bank was much harder to remove in a hurry.
What a remarkable race and accomplishment for Belgium and all of those teams that worked so hard and raced by the rules to show case their technological achievements. Also a GIANT KUDOS FOR GERMANY FOR NOT QUITTING AFTER SUCH DIFFICULT CIRCUMSTANCES.
absolutlz astonishing performance bz the german team

But this series has got me invested in the whole solar power industry and I'm craving more lol
Seeing the Vattenfall entry go down in flames at the very last leg reminded me of the Icarus metaphor. They flew too close to the sun.
