The Volvo P1800, driven by Simon Templar, alias The Saint. ... The classic image of Roger Moore driving his Volvo sports car in the 1960's TV show, The Saint
i looked this up and every where it does sat that as well as the only sexy volvo ever built was the p1800, i cant disagree with that lol
@@lordi2009k true i have seen couple of those in sweden and in finland because i live in finland
Bond, James Bond .... had a Volvo P1800ES
Haha.. you beat me to it!
@@carmineredd1198 The white painted Volvo P1800 S used in the TV series was actually owned by Roger Moore in real life. In February 1967 he received the Swedish coupe with the British license plate ‘NUV 648E’, while on television the show license plate ‘ST1’ was used. At that time most of the 118 episodes of ‘Simon Templar’ already existed, the Volvo only appeared in a few episodes of the fifth and finally in the final sixth season of the crime series.
Later Sir Roger Moore sold the car to his actor colleague Martin Benson, who played the role of Mr Solo in ‘James Bond - Goldfinger’. After various other owners, the car was mildly restored to its original condition in the early 2000s and finally acquired by Volvo Cars Heritage, who will now show the P1800 S with further exhibits of the series at the Techno Classica in Essen.
Dude..you need to share your friend's story..how the heck did you manage to meet a guy with so many cool rides, what was he like, who was he?
It's amazing that a fellow would leave a friend a legacy like this..
Ill do a video on it
@@isaacitllbefine7231
That'd be cool..
A little praise for ya if you don't mind..you're a pretty damned entertaining guy..got a great sense of pace and humor that works well in these little stories you produce here.
Some of the stuff you do here and at Cars & Cameras inspires a guy to do his own goofy mechanical exploration, but mostly it's just plain entertaining.
Keep it up!
@@zrxdoug I agree, he does make a guy wish he had some mechanical know how, so a guy could have, and make some great memories working on some old cars, so a guy could enjoy, and ride around in some cool cars!!
@@isaacitllbefine7231 I sure wish I had ur know how, my mom inherited a 65 Rambler convertible from her dad, wish u could see it, but it probably wouldn’t take much to get it back on the road. It hasn’t ran since mid 2000’s, he was having some problems with the carb, or should I say carbs. He tried different ones, even buying a couple new carbs with no luck. Other than the mechanical problems it’s in great shape. O how I wished my mother could ride in it, or drive it before she, well u know what I mean. Great channel by the way. Thanks so much for the entertainment, and the laughs, from both channels!!!! Say hey to John for me. Much love and respect to y’all!!

that tactical move to dodge the wasp was professional AF
he's had a lot of years of practice!
Love the car. Dad was Swedish, and we moved to Sweden for a couple of years 76-77, and Dad worked at the Volvo factory there. They really took pride in their craftsmanship.
i really dont think volvo ever made a BAD car. some of em might not have been INCREDIBLE or whatever, but they were still solid, well made, reliable, and in the case of this old 1800, really damn good looking. i love an old "woe-woe"
@@ghomerhust they made some bad choices at times, like using renault engines and stuff, but old volvos are rad.
They really do. All of modern precision machining started with the Swedes(The gauge, or Joe Block. Short for Johansen).
@@bradyoung6663 Interesting.
the moment you found the joint.. you could tell you were laughing and thinking of your buddy. I'm sure he was laughing as well
The guy you inherited from had excellent taste. The bus, the panel truck, and now this Volvo.
Very glad that you decided to keep this one, even here in sweden those p1800 are rare, cheapest here is a rusty import for 13k USD next step up is 25k. Keep the vids going and thanks for the great content :)
For that much I'd rather buy one of the many lathes you guys have over there, some of the best machine and other style lathes in the world.
Very cool ride would love to see more on this car.
A friend of mine had one of these back in the late '80s. It was a nice car. But he couldn't depend on the thing. He spent untold dollars under the hood trying to get it to run right. It wouldn't last long. Every road trip he tried to make the car ended up on a rollback. He got so frustrated with it that one day he decides he's beaten and had enough. He and another friend pulled the engine and trans out of it and stuck it under a workbench where it still resides to this day. Back then turbo V6 Buicks were everywhere. It wound up with a turbo Buick V6 between the fenders. It took some work to make everything fit. But once it was done, he had a very fast Volvo that would drive anywhere and bring you back. I never knew why he couldn't keep the original 4 banger running right. All I do know, a turbo Buick V6 in one of these, is a rocket.
So glad you decided to keep it. Beautiful car. Cant wait to see more of her.
this might be the most charismatic car you have. i LOVE this old thing!
To quote one of the best movies ever, “She’s a runner.”
Road house?
@@frankfedewa9769 Yes
@@frankfedewa9769 You're damned right. *Peter Griffin voice* Roadhouse.
The P1800 is a VERY collectable (and rather valuable) car these days, and yours is in exceptional condition for its age!! One of my all-time favorite "must have" cars that I will probably never find.
What an inheritance! I had a '68 for about three years back in the early 80s. I miss it still. In poor condition, they go for $6k to $15k. In excellent condition, up to $35k - $50k. Definitely worth keeping and reconditioning.
You are a very lucky guy. To have inherited a really nice car like that. That are pretty close to being worth their weight in gold
Those seats look immaculate! That’s a really nice car too. Whoever had that car previously liked to have fun 😂😂😂
Deadly car way ahead of its time . My old boss bought one brand new I went with him to pick it up . It was a quick trip home in those days . They still turn heads good score
I had a 1972 p1800 station wagon for about 6 years. Loved it . Was a fantastic and fast little car with the 4 cylinder fuel injected four speed with overdrive. Still a sporty good looking car today. Was extremely fast on the open highway many times at over 120 mph and handled just like a well built European sports car. Don't sell it. You'll regret it if you do. I still like the lines of the wagon over the coupe. The glass rear hatch was way ahead of its time. Wish I still had mine.
Yes the station wagon model looks amazing. They are super rare though. There used to be one parked close to my school when I grew up. I saw it every day for almost ten years, and since then, twenty-five years hence, I think I have only seen two others.
Upon my death i'm leaving my lifetime's worth of unfinished projects to him.
Me, too! Maybe he can finish painting that fence that I never got to! lol
Those are extremely cool cars. I'm not normally a big Volvo guy but I'd love to have one of those.
I'm so envious of this car , mate it's a real prize!! That half of a joint was probably saved in there for you to injoy 🤫 ..I love this Volvo..they are certainly as rear as hen's teeth. Your friend must have known that leaving the car /cars to you was the right decision. And it was!!! Your a neat guy and I'm catching up on the videos asap, always injoyable and inspiring... I'm just a little jealous 🙄 .
Great candidate for Resto-mod, brakes, suspension, tyres and about 200hp and thats a cool looking and fun little car.Would love to see that!!!
I saw a guy on TV who put a Million miles on one of those, same engine and everything and it still runs.
Grady Browning
That car eventually achieved over 3 million miles(3,2 million) on the original engine.
It was stripped down at the Thatcham Research Laboratory in Berkshire ,UK and varified as original.
Sadly the owner, Irv Gordon, died in 2018 ,but i doubt this mileage will ever be beaten.
I own a 1970 Amazon with the B20 engine ,similar to the B18,but i doubt i'll put that much mileage on it!
"You know it's bad when it smells bad" Words to live by..
I had a 1966 P1800s for many years. GREAT car! I agree that one looks like a keeper. Thanks for the video
Wanted to add that my '68 could cruise at 85 mph at about 3500 rpm in overdrive, fully loaded with myself and all my stuff ... full trunk, full back seat, full passenger seat ... going back and forth between college and home ... and achieve 33 mpg! A car built in 1968 that was 15 years old, had over 100,000 miles on it, got 33 mpg at 85 mph, fully loaded. What a car!
Alex
One of the best looking cars ever designed.
Hey Isaac good to see your keeping all these fine motors on the road.i was tuned into your s and johns podcast last night also .
Damn.I forgot.
in 1962 I bought a 1960 bugeyed sprite from the Volvo dealers used car lot. They had the P1800 on the showroom floor ( I think that they had just came out) what a beautiful car for the time. I have never owned one but have always admired them.
I’m really enjoying your series on your friend’s cars.
Fixed up, these are worth serious money. Love 'em.
@S.p Bean wow, that could be one of the dumbest comments I’ve seen on Issacs channel, let me guess, you’re an American muscle car guy!

The Volvo P1800 is in the Guinness book of world records for going over 6 million miles. It's now in the Volvo museum.
Do you mean Irv Gordon's? It's been driven just over 3 million miles.
@@bobjohnson205 Good catch. I thought I heard somewhere that it was more but you are right. These were great cars in their day and still worth a real pretty penny today.
@@al1561 your mistake was probably reading the units wrong it's about 6 million km
@@ricky107_ Sounds like a good excuse that would save my ego, but unfortunately this mistake was all mine. Thanks for trying though, I appreciate it. FYI 6 million kms would have been 3.7 Million miles. Only reason I knew that was because I'm Canadian. LOL
I have always lked those and the Studebaker Hawks. Very nice original, unrestored. They're only stock once, keep it that way. What a wonderful car for a future grandson to inherit. So you live out in the middle of the pucker brush behind a locked gate. I like that.
That is one of the coolest Volvo cars around... Great one to have!
Happy Birthday Russ ... my 4th daughter turns 17 today
That Volvo is like the one Roger Moore drove on the show The Saint. Very cool car.
I love that series.
Outstanding
Holy crap. Nice Hearst. Cant wait to see you fire up that big station wagon
Those are cool cars. Used to work next to a guy that had a really nicely restored P1800 and a couple of other old Volvos.
Wow, a P1800! :D

possibly the prettiest volvo, the styling is really up there. and i love the wheels that look like porsche fuchs. damn fine looking machine

Can't believe it cranked. Dude, it's a Volvo. 😄 What a nice car!
That Volvo is the pinnacle of their body designs. Painted in black is just the icing on that cake.

I’m 18 and knowing that I’m not the only one terrified of bees makes me feel great! I’ve had many bad experiences getting stung multiple times. Not fun
I’ve went my whole life only being stung once and I believe it was a wasp, I’m scared of them cause I feel like the fact I’ve made it this long probably means I’m allergic to them and I don’t wanna find out lmao
I got stung by a ground bee in the bottom lip once. It suuuuucked. I looked like Bubba from Forrest Gump for over a week. I also got stung on the soft spot between the thumb and finger by a hornet. Would not recommend. Swelled my arm up to the elbow. On the bright side, I got to flag traffic for a week instead of trim trees.
Not a volvo guy but that thing is sweet. Might get a few dates with that one haha
FYI. My wife is allergic to bees also. I learned a long time ago to keep a can of brake cleaner handy when I know I'm going to be around bees. Spray them with brake cleaner and they die quickly. Acetone works well too. But, brake cleaner can be sprayed. Use the straw that comes with it, and you can aim really good.
Trooper II & a Datsun 510??
Damn man!!
Classics!
Volvo isn't in bad shape @ all for almost 50yrs old...Russ is in pretty good shape for a '50....
Wheres the beard!!!!!!!!! Getting too warm for facial hair. I feel ya!
You know you have to smoke that doobie... Share a last smoke with your buddy that has been gone for a while.
What a wonderful friend and car. He will be happy that he gave it to you.
One of my favorite Volvo's... Dig the videos you have been posting. cool tribute to your friend!
Roger Moore drove one of those in The Saint, English tv show from early 60’s, Simon Templer, modern day Robin Hood.
That’s a cool car
Very nice. That model Volvo is starting to bring good money. Nice collector car. Please take care of it
Man that is a very very nice car! Your a lucky dude for sure! My boss I worked for 35 years had a couple of those and there really high dollar automobiles and highly sought after.
This is the kind of stuff that makes me want to play forza horizon 4
yeah my uncle had one that he left sit at my grandfather's shop for years.
I saw one of these on Craigslist forsale. Came to CZcams to research the car and watched the whole vid. This is awesome thank you. And congrats on finding a joint 😂😂
That p1800 even has the factory original alloy wheels.
Good chance that it's numbers matching as well.
