- Because nobody but me asked for it: All videos and translations (barring some alterations) shown here I ripped from "HermanZh". I modernized it to be a little more in line with modern games here and there. I made sure it was polished at the very least.
My reasons are that the subtitles are delivered via Annotations.
1: Mobile users can't see them.
2: I'm paranoid that in the future CZcams just does away with them! I did this out of prosperity, giving them a longer shelf life.
3: An accidental attempt to make them relevant somewhat... Iunno
I AM NOT A TRANSLATOR! (But I'd like to think I make a neat localizer assistant...)
Done in a single day. What a day... I wanted to write on my stories and play F-Zero GX.
I wanted to use a lot of unsound effects*. But I kept it to a minimum. It would've been like *Cocky winner's laugh and Graceful Dodge
I redubbed the 2nd one from "Nature Conversation" to the more literal "Cherish Nature" (it fits better) and the (probably) intended "Nature Confrontation".
I put WAY more work in "Satan is in a crisis" then I should've...
"Rulue's Boots" lips syncing is a bit lackluster. Usually, character's make noises as soon as their mouth's open. "Rulue's boots" is a bit off.
I looked up Minna Puyo Puyo to get a good sense of how Mino would refer to Rulue. Didn't really help, so I made up the 'Milady' stuff.
I like the current art style, but Rulue (and Raffine to an extent) suffer from it a bit. The art style makes make them a bit too cute. I don't get that Rulue's supposed to be a beautiful woman prone to misfortune just like every else. (Raffine does pull it off in Fe2 and 15th I feel.)

This is the most fluid anime short I have ever seen

I wish they can make an actual tv series of Puyo Puyo
Sam, it should be the anime series Puyo Puyo shorts produced first by TMS Entertainment in Japan, then dubbed by Bang Zoom Entertainment and co-produced by SEGA of America featuring some iconic cast of Puyo Puyo Tetris and new different dream voice cast including Kari Wahlgren as Lidelle. In the new anime they not just use some Puyo Pop Fever sound effects at first, they use most sounds from the Puyo Puyo series such as Fever 2, 7, Tetris and best of all, Puyo Puyo 2.
If they ever make an anime of Puyo Puyo, expect a lot of your typical loli and cutesy cliches from these days' anime..
In fact, I bet there won't be a single bit of self-awareness as the short from 5:20.

2. The animation budget and talent was high enough to make them shine within a limited time frame
3. Probably enough money left for in-betweens, those extra frames you saw in more 90s cartoons like Animaniacs and Batman: TAS.
@@PopMusicKiller Animaniacs (the 90s version atleast) was animated by TMS Animation who also worked on batman TAS and Akira. It wouldn't surprise me if they also made these shorts as well.

I kind of feel bad for Minotaurus because he and the others was left behind when Arle, Rulue, Satan, Carbuncle, Witch, Suketoudara, Draco, and Schezo went to Ringo's world due to some Puyo puyo travel to another world while battling shenanigans.
I just went to watch the originals when I was rudely reminded that they used annotations for the translation, so thank you so much for thinking ahead and making this!
(now someone can use this to subtitle the original uploads, but with proper youtube subtitles instead, haha)

The only anime I don't feel so bad for watching, it lacks a lot of the typical troupes and it's better beacuse of that, also you can really tell this short show was made as promotion for Puyo Puyo Sun.
But hey it's actually funny, more than can be said about most anime, I think this style fits Compolile's Madou Monogatari games but it does not at all fit with how Puyo Puyo is after this point.
An americanised cartoon style for Puyo Puyo would be spectacular and it seems like it's already in the works.
They even parodied those stupid ass laugh tracks, this show was damn grounded for what is considered an anime.
More proof these are promotion for Sun is Arle's Theme from Madou Monogatari, which was the inspiration for the Normal Theme in Sun

It wasn't widely available until PPT.
PP1: For the longest time people thought it was a fake it's so rare. It wasn't even legally available until recently with SEGA AGES Puyo Puyo on Switch. Plus that localization clashes so hard with the Puyo canon as we know it.
Minna: It's on the GBA, not everyone might have picked it up.
Fever: It's a newbie boom for sure, but in the US it was only released on GC and DS. Imagine how many more fans the series would have made if it also released on PS2, XBox and GBA like in Europe. The PS2 was THE system that generation. (Incidentally, the GBA version is the smoothest playing Puyo game ever, figure that out.)
A whole bunch of games skipped, and then PPT 3 years after the initial Japanese release.
And please don't point to fan translations and roms. I'm talking about the average joe walking through game store looking for a game that looks fun and they see a Puyo game on the shelf.
SEGA failed to catch those by not releasing Fever 2 to Chronicle...
Thank PPT's popularity. Because SEGA does seem intent to give us more. And we can thank Precise Museum for translating the past.

How the heck the animation of an old ass anime is much more fluid than nowadays anime.
Simple answer. I don't know how big a budget Anime on average had per episode now or back then. But let's say for argument it's 2000.000 Yen or so per episode.
Even if you only had a quarter of that budget, you have put more money into a short than a 20 minute episode on average.
Meaning you can put more frames per second into it than in an anime episode.
Or maybe they had good storyboards and made good use of smear frames.
At least that's my layman's interpretation.

Why is the animation so smooth.
Because just like Western cartoons they need a budget for animation Animes the exception because they work in a lower budget for an episode
This shorts are really funny.
And I like that they even show a PUYO match (with Satan/Dark Prince) being in the middle of it (literally).
That made me thinking though, even in this one short, we see a puyo battle from the player perspective & in the other short we saw Arle and Witch fight with their spells against each other.
According to how the games work, both the chain making and popping, as well as the kick each others butt with spells thing happens.
So what does it look like for them, from the perception of the characters?
Is that ever shown in any kind of media?

Also, futher explanations on where these animations are from : Compile(former owner of PuyoPuyo/Madou IP) used to publish a magazine series named Disc Station. These animations are from Game Compilation CDs in it. Few Disc Station magazines were published in Korea too, so I recall watching Korean dub vers of these.
