The book scars makes it clear that magnus wanted 0 restrictions or forbidden knowledge to psykers. Jagahatai and sanguinius joined him in designing the librarius specifically to help control magnus' thirst for psychic power as well as help their own psyker sons develop their power and self control. @@MURPHYCHACHO Quite possibly, but look at how much respect Jaghatai had for Magnus - I think this is a case where it depends entirely on the writer who tackled it. Sanguinius was the most beloved by ALL the Primarchs... which might have made Magnus wary, as Magnus might see this as Sanguinius looking to placate Russ in particular. No one knew what Jaghatai was about AND Jaghatai probably had the most open mind of any of the Primarchs (he explored so much unknown space that he had to be able to adapt to new situations, and cast off Dogma when that dogma would get his legion killed), so Magnus might have thought that Jaghatai would have had less of a reason to bow to the pressure of the other Primarchs. (Also, Magnus might have thought he understood Jaghatai more than the rest, and thought he could deal with Jaghatai more easily than with Sanguinius.)
All in all, I think either of them would have been a great choice in holding the "leash", so to speak, of Psykers. No wrong answer with either of them.

Jaghatai and the White Scars are actually a case study in why telling them about chaos would have been a good idea. Their homeworld was already somewhat aware of chaos and demons to begin with, and were thus already taught to be careful and wary of warp threats. This was a big reason why they even stayed loyal, because they already knew joining chaos was a terrible idea.

Well except the issue that almost half the white scars, early on, were traitors from being influenced from the warrior lodges and they were trying to convince Jaghatai and other loyal or undecided members of their legion to join Horace and his chaos daddies, so I don't really know if you're point was valid. Actually I agree with you that teaching his sons, Primarchs, all about chaos and the other dimensions, demons, worshipping them, souls in peril, that they themselves had a part of chaos entity's in them (pretty sure I heard somewhere that the Primarchs souls were attained from powerful demons from the warp, that was part of the big Es betrayal of the chaos gods). Just was truthful to them, it could have been a bonding event with all his sons, helped build trust and it makes since to know you're enemies. Every general in history wanted information from has many sources as possible on their enemies and potential enemies. It's alot more effective and efficient fighting someone if you know everything or atleast as much as possible about them. Just saying the white scars was actually a bad point in this argument based on what happened in lore.

I think it's less the idea that humanity would have different goals and more not trying to keep the best aspects of Humanity in the Imperium.
Faith is key to Humanity and (in this universe) one of our greatest tools is how the species beliefs have affected the warp and universe (look how few it took to make the Tau greater good into a warp entity).
Instead of the Imperial Truth it would have been better to acknowledge malevolent warp entities and give Humanity a set of tenants/values to follow with a focus on lifting all of humanity up.
It also goes with him personally he was too certain that a form of the Heresy was needed and was to quick to mark them as expendable/necessary sacrifice and the Space Marines as another Thunder Warriors.

I have a theory about the nature of the Emperor and the Primarchs that may explain why he made so much mistakes on what was suppose to be mankind's greatest champions and shepherds of a new golden age. Being someone that follows the theory that Primarrchs were minor warp gods, I think the process in which the Emperor made the Primarch souls greatly affected him as well and made him into the strange detached man we see in the great crusade. I surmise that the Emperor went in with the best intentions with him wanting to keep all the Primarchs even after he took the galaxy.
Now here is the meat of the theory, the process of making the Primarchs didn't just merely affect the Emperor, it damaged him greatly. The Primarchs not only have their own quirks but also seem to contain aspects of the Emperor so I believe he gave each of those souls a fragment of himself as well. Even before he sat upon the golden throne, the Emperor was already fragmenting and breaking apart, both from gaining vast powers from the warp AND losing parts of his soul to craft the Primarchs. This would explain why he was in such a hurry to conquer the galaxy, he was losing much of himself as time went on and thus was pressured to complete everything while he was still able to. This is why some of his meetings with certain Primarchs were so perfect, cementing their loyalty and support and alienating others, he was not always there, probably at certain times he was far more fragmented, leading him to treat some of them badly, losing them in the process, while other times he could pull himself together enough to be the father figure they wanted or needed him to be. The cold calculating Emperor could also be explained as the only way he could focus on his goals, and him suppressing his emotions and empathy were because they caused him to fragment further.

My Theory builds on what Malcador once said, he wasnt the Emperor until he met him, and that he changed after coming back from the Warp.
So when big E went through the Portal on Molech, he didn´t just take 20 minor Warp Gods for the Souls of his Sons, he also took one for himself. He was a powerfull and perpetual Psycher before, but absorbing or fusing with a Warp God turned him into the Emperor. It is mentioned multiple Times that his True/spirital Form isn´t human.
Who knows, maybe he took the Warp God of Order back in 24k and is actually the Reason why Chaos was growing and taking over the Warp.

I think the real reason Big E didn't tell anyone about Chaos is because that was a part of his deal to make the primarchs. I think the primarchs were 20 unaligned warp entities who gave a little bit of their essence in order to help them become powerful in various attributes. All of their powers, and flaws are due to these entities, but they are still fully human and self aware.

It could have been a unique and interesting story if the big e just left angron there and moved on. Angron prolly still would have survived but we would have an avenue to a primarch who was discarded and could have been a super interesting agent for chaos that way. Maybe instead of horus, chaos uses angron because they can do so in the beginning without the imperium knowing and still have a bloodthirsty bezerker primarch with an army of, while not astartes, like daemonhost gladiators. It was kind of interesting to think out how things could have gone if he had just thrown angron out rather than kidnap him.

A good example i could point to in the lore would be the infinite and the divine book where Trayzn and Orikan interact with one another in a back and forth exchange over the course of thousands of years yet both of them always act as if it was only recently they had last interacted even though decades if not centuries pass between instances. I believe the emperor was likely use to similar such situations so for him being the human that he is it would be easy to simply view a few decades of silence and minimum interactions as just a brief period of time but his sons arnt like him they are young and don't yet share his same outlook they are like children in a way in the eyes of the emperor getting upset at what he views as just a brief moment in time insignificant against the long road ahead. I have *so much beef* with how the Emperor handled Lorgar and Monarchia (at least in older lore), that it admittedly makes it hard for me to want to side with the Emperor on much of anything.
On Colchis, there was a week long celebration of the Emperor’s arrival, celebrating his godhood. He did nothing to really try and drive the “Im not a god” point home, except basically only once going “Nah that aint me”. He said nothing else during the *week long* celebration.
Initially in the lore, Lorgar barely got any warning for spreading the God-Emperor spiel. Maybe a few terse off-remarks to my memory.
But what the Emperor did to Monarchia and the Word Bearers is equivalent to saying “Stop”, twice, in a very disinterested way, and not explaining his point in detail to his son, then immediately going from that to instructing his son’s more favored brother to blow up his house, and then personally taking a golf club to his knees.
More recent lore, iirc, does try to have the Emperor deny it more, and have it fall on Lorgar being a thick-skulled choir boy and choosing not to listen. However, that bad taste in the mouth still remains.

You don't see that small path that stops humankind from failure. Only the emperor does. Something you might deem single actions of him as a mistake, but every single of those cascades into billions of events leading to something your simple mind does not understand. The emperor protects.

My issue with the Primarchs is that everyone expects the Emperor to put them over his knee and scold them like children.
Like…they aren’t children. Some of them had conquered worlds and made empires without him, they were all grown adults by the time they were found, even more so by Ullanor.
They all had their chances to grow, literal centuries to develop themselves as people and see themselves as individuals without focusing their entire lives around one slight by the Emperor.

Not telling Magnus about the Web way project was so dumb considering it was literally dependant on him.

OK, let's be real here, not telling Magnus about the chaos gods was 100% the right move there, because this is Magnus the fucking Red we're talking about here - he is convinced he's the single smartest and most powerful person in the room even when he's outdoors. If the big E had gone "Yeah, those aren't just echoes, they're sentient beings of great power who'll outwit and corrupt you, so don't fuck with them", Magnus would be entering the warp with a chess set, a rubix cube and a fiddle in half an hour.

Angron would NOT have fought for the Imperium if the Emperor had helped him. Since Angron saw that the Emperor was just another overlord, and his deeply empathetic nature would have kept him conquering worlds, or ever leaving his gladiator comrades. Angron basically tells the Emperor this before saying no and returning to the planet.
The Primarchs are tools though, and to get this tool to work, the Emperor did what he had to. By taking Angron away from the battle, he both eliminated Angron's past ties and created the hatred necessary to override his remaining empathy. Turning him into a tool of war. This is why there's no mentor, or training period, for Angron. He's just handed his legion and orders. The Emperor knows Angron is never going to follow the Imperium willingly, but he'll be effective enough if he accepts the legion out of hate.

I sometimes like to imagine what if someone in the 40k universe found an audio record of videos like these. Like what if the Emperor was digging through some archives for no reason, and accidentally activated this video during the reuinification wars or something.
