I have the Predator Trilogy on Blu-Ray, I found Gary Busey really good in this movie... It's just a shame he stared in Fullmoon Productions... Gingerdead-Man.
And What I think of the Predators Dancing outtake in this... It is one of the most Outlandish, Funny and awesome things I ever came across.
Oliver Harper I completely agreed with Siskel and Ebert. Predator 2 is not a low-budget and not a pleasant sequal. The special effects is elaborate, the violence is too violent, and that insulting foul-language. I gave it 2/10 and thumbs down at IMDB.com.
uh dude, the violence is meant to be exactly that, as it's supposed to be in the middle of a drug war after all. Now I might agree with you somewhat about the excessive use of foul language, but at the same time, it also fits into the story of Danny Glover's role of a "take no shit" kinda guy
Siskel and Ebert didn't have a clue. Listen to them. And comparing the second movie to the first? Danny Glove to Arnie? How? They are 2 different actors and these are 2 different movies.
I agree with some of the stuff you said but I think you get lost with the rest. Watch it with low expectations? Really!? I think you'd find the real Predator fans loved this movie. It was different and took good risks. It showed us there are different Predators out there. So what did people want? Same jungle scene rehashed? Macho men again? It's a different movie that gets more right than wrong.
Can't even begin to compare it to AVP, AVP2, Predators and the new one. Tells you a lot about a supposed "trusted site" like Rotten Tomato when Predators gets a higher score than Predator 2.
I actually liked Shane Black's "The Predator", and I rank it higher than "Predators", but still not quite as good as the first 2 films. not to mention, the new movie actually references the 1987 and 1997 incidents, but yet, the filmmakers (particularly that of Robert Rodriguez) fails to mention the events from "Predator 2"
I don't get why people care about the foul language. This movie has people getting skinned, impaled, and decapitated. It's not Mary Poppins or Kindergarten Cop.
It is that Puritan arrogance that people have
It's just critics being critics...
Ebert and Siskel whine about everything. They're just pretentious critics and always have been.
PUT THAT COOKIE DAAAAOOOOOWWWNNNNN!!!!!!!!!!
@@LuxBellator92 Well, I don't miss Ebert. Horrible llittle gnome.
The part when Glover was chasing the Predator through that old lady's apartment brought us some classic dialogue. Glover: "It's okay, ma'am. I'm a cop." Old Lady: "I don't think he gives a shit." As a kid I never tired of this.
Don't forget she had a broom to fight the Predator lol
That line was hilarious 🤣 I remember seeing it back to back in ‘90 and the the audience erupted w/laughter!
Yes... that is seriously my favorite line… nearly top ten of a load of movies for me. It works in English and also the language I watched it the first time. I enjoyed the movie a lot. And actually I still do. Any new Predator movie should have picked up from there.
I alway thought that whole ending was pretty good I love that line one of my favorite parts was the train scene but I always wondered 1 how did predator get on the train and 2 how did he know those people where armed
@@jgedutis The Predator wouldn't have stood a chance against that fatal broom!!
Predator 2 is criminally underrated. Loved Danny Glover and Gary Busey in this.
Lone Wolf it’s not that great. The predator itself was great but the story was weak and character development sucked.
Exactly, man, I find it very good. Compared to these days movies like Bird Cage or Marvel movies this one can be even considered an Oscar level movie.
Why did I mention Bird Cage I have no idea. What a great movie that was. That's because I write these comments late in the night and my brain is to tired to thing straight. No alcohol included, just a programmer being a programmer.
I was at university when this came out and went with big group of friends. We absolutely loved, it and came home raving about it, a few of us went back again the next night. I still really like this movie. It’s not as good as the original, but it’s a great sequel, and I still really enjoy it - if I watch the first, I have to watch the second right away.
It expands on the first one, but avoids being a total retread, expands the background of the Predator a bit, shows us some new tricks, and has a style of it’s own. Mostly it gets one main thing right in that, like the first movie, it doesn’t really start as a sci-fi film, it starts as a different genre of movie, an action cop movie in this case, then the Predator shows up to spoil the party. I think that’s the characteristic that Predators and The Predator missed, and it meant they didn’t seem to fit in the series, and weren’t as good as the first two. (Predators isn’t bad, just kind of forgettable). Predator 2 jumps in a bit deeper at the start, showing us more of the alien, and admittedly, a bit more character development would have helped. A second sequel should have kept that basic idea though - start as a different genre - a heist movie, or a western, or a WW2 movie, then have the Predator shake it off course.
@@chrisward000 totally agree with you there.
Predator 2 is a DAMN GOOD 90s movie !!
Facts
It's actually very poor.
@Pk Suleiman no, it's fucking shite. Nowhere near as good as the first.
Its not really a 90s movie, its super late 80s one.
@unlock_the_poppins @Shit_Heap.. get out losers.
@JPToys97- The horrific AVP and all the other cheesy teen flick versions after that made it evident that although P2 was not anywhere near P1 it was TRULY GREAT ;)
I think it's a great sequel. Did I want to see Arnie in the jungle fighting the Predator again? No, why would I. It's been done before. Having a different kind of hero in a totally different location was the way to go.
Rods toy box Personally, I was rather happy to see Danny Glover be in a film of which he was mostly outmatched. In the past, he seemed to be the sidekick of other actors.
For this one, for Danny Glover's character being compared to a lion only makes me speculate about his character. Of how badass he has to be for a Predator to isolate him out.
I loved Predator 2 as well and was not disappointed that Arnie wasn't in it. Two classic movies in my opinion with their own look and style.
I love the sequel. It's very badass having the predator alien in an urban jungle fighting gangs.
Agreed, it was neat to see a common cop go up against the Predator and not some pumped up soldier. Don't get me wrong, I love the first one, but the second one was it's own thing and did that great.
Predator is a better film, but P2 is great in it's own right. Both are re-watchable and never get old! I have the 4K versions...fantastic picture on both!
Siskel and Ebert complain that Predator 2 changed things, it didn't have Arnie, it's not set in the jungle. Then they accuse it of being a carbon copy of the first movie? So they complain that it changes things then complain that it's not different enough! Make your minds up.
+Rods toy box didn't they complain about the first movie too?
Gene Siskel generally had accurate insights about film even if you didn't agree with him but Ebert was always a bit of a libtard twat.
Keep in mind these are the same people who said Speed 2 was great
It's only through this uploader's videos that I get so much exposure to S & E. And my conclusion is that other people's opinions for reviews are worth nothing until you experience it first. Same goes for any type of review when it comes to entertainment. Products working is separate.
Siskel was a snobby idiot who complained about everything. Ebert had a lot better judgement.
Bill Paxton - the only actor to be killed by a Terminator (the punk in THE TERMINATOR), an Alien (Hudson in ALIENS) and the Pred (in PREDATOR 2 of course). This was a feat not repeated until the Pred offed Lance Hendrikson in AVP in 2004.
+Jim Pepper
Technically speaking, Lance Henriksen hasn't actually been killed by an Alien.
britbloc123 well, he was left impossible to repair because of the alien, so...
Technically he committed suicide by ripley
Kelvin Casing ha!
Don't remember Lance being killed by The Terminator or even being in Terminator for that matter lol
Predator 2 was a great movie. The tension never lets up.
*Predator 1 was Alien crossing Rambo, Predator 2 was Alien crossing Lethal Weapon & Robocop. You don't get films like this anymore.*
This film is very under rated and a solid sequel. It grows on you over time
One of the most underrated movies in history
I think this movie is quite underrated, I always liked the story of the predator moving into the city and duke it out with cops, I dunno why its considered bad by some fans because the ending and last 20 minutes or so are absolutely dope :D
The ending with the whole tribe is the best scene of the whole predator franchise
I love the concrete jungle feel that this movie has. Sure, LA has been seen before, but I think Predator 2 made it look so... well, alien and hot and grimy and interesting. I don't agree with that bit.
The mean spiritedness and the swearing and what not are all positive in my book, although I do agree it could have been gorier.
I read it actually was much more gorier, but they cut it all for the reason of saving R rating, otherwise they would've got NC 17. Sadly it's no director cut for this movie.
Totally agree!
TheAzatec
Really? That would be really interesting to see. I hope someone finds an uncut version somewhere one day.
"WANT SOME CANDY?"
still gives me the creeps
Shihab Hasin 😂 I always laughed that line every time it was spoken! That and “Danny Boy!”
I loved this movie. I actually think it's a classic in my opinion.
It's funny how people complained about Robocop 2/Predator 2, yet look at all the sequels, reboots, crossovers, and possible scripts on the horizon that came afterwards. Things got much worse.
so fucking true man, so fucking true, what was at the time a crappy sequel now looks like one of the better in the series
Couldn't have said it any better myself!
That's called hindsight. At the time the only thing to compare R2/P2 with was R1/P1 and in that regard people were right to complain (not that the sequels were bad, just not as good as everyone hoped). Now we know better and hope there won't be an AvP3.
@@abadenoughdude300 if "Alien vs. Predator" had taken place some years after "Alien 3" and added the Colonial Marines, it would've been a damn good fuckin' movie
DrQuagmire1
Or after Aliens. The Predator heads to LV426 to make sure no Aliens survived and so do some colonial marines for the same reason. And then all hell breaks loose. But they find the Sulaco and rescue Hicks, Newt and Ripley before the events of Alien 3. We find out that Ripley was having a nightmare of losing the only humans she loved and Alien 3 never happened
I don't know about you guys but i kinda like the predator being in the city.
For predator 2 yes for the predator no
At the very beginning there's a police car that explodes and Hopkins cuts multiple shots of the car flipping in the air. This was striking and unique at the time. Loved his style for the movie.
Want Some Candy?
i say that all the time when i have candy lol
MYT MIC NEVER
Danny boy...
Emityna
I do!!
I always found it interesting how a lot of films in the 80's and early 90's always had a future setting in 1997. Escape From New York was set in 1997, predator 2 was set in 1997 and Judgment Day in the Terminator films was to happen in August 1997.
+Lieutenant Yoshi They were writing on a hunch...1997= Titanic everywhere.
I think 1997 represents the beginning of the downfall of major movie franchise. At this time Lucas was busy writing a shit script for EP1.
@@professionalgun6674 Batman and Robin came out in 1997. So did Spawn. You might be onto something.
This is a good sequel and I will never understand the hate/crap it gets.Bloody fun action/sci fi flick what more do you want?
Because it isn’t part one yes I love this movie and certain parts of it I prefer over the first but predator one is the better film but predator is underrated
Predator 2 is so underrated movie.
excellant movie highly underrated
Agreed
I loved both films equally. So blessed to be an 80's kid.
A better movie than it's often given credit for and oddly is more enjoyable once you've already seen it a couple of times. A little flawed but always entertaining and holds your interest.
Great movie, love it almost as much as part one. The hate it gets makes absolutely no sense, none.
"You can't see the eyes of the Demonnn . . . til him come callinnnn'."
Also one of the last decent acting jobs with Busey before he went batshit crazy
He's brilliant in Point Break
Solid sequel. I prefer this one over Predators.
of course bro avp1,2 and predators are like movies made by college film students E grade movies all of them
I actually really enjoyed Predators when it came out and still do, because it did come a bit full circle, with being on an alien jungle world and having more than one predator alien involved.
Predators, although fun, was really just a soft reboot/retread of the first film. Predator 2 was a wholly unique concept that had a few loose ties to a comic series Dark Horse had done in the previous year entitled 'Concrete Jungle'. I personally love this movie as well and haven't never really understood the hate for it, especially considering there are just as many cheesy moments in the first film if that's a complaining point for some.
Predators was absolute dog shit...such a wasted opportunity to bring back the glory days of Predator 1& 2. Adrian Brody as the lead?! gimme a break. Laurence Fishburne was the only character I enjoyed and he was under used.
uh dude, alot of people prefer THIS movie over "Predators"
I actually found Danny Glovers character to be fascinating. I always thought that he has some kind of anxiety disorder. He is afriad of heights and he also has those outbursts of anger which shows weakness in him due to his anxiety but he will always get the job done despite his mental condition. And i honestly think that The Predator was facinated by him because of how he handled drug criminals at the start of the movie despite having this mental condition and i think thats why The Predator wanted to hunt him. I may be looking too deep into this but that is my take on it. My opinion lolz
Madfella Duke good take
Would love to see an uncut version of Predator 2 some day.
Fuck yeah!
Same here
What I loved about this sequel is the immediate action scenes started in the beginning post opening title. Environmental setting in the city, funny dialogue, music score, and the introduction of predators weapons, med kit he used to fight treat his wounds.
I loved this film. My favorite scene was the confrontation with King Willie. The score, the editing, and the overall buildup and editing was fantastic. Plus, that reveal shot in the water's reflection looked great.
Predator 2 is better then predators.
Predators is just a rehash of the og. And takes out all the fun of those scenes and the Beserker Predator is awful
Predators are not that bad, compared to AvP it's even marvelous, but the ending is somewhat lame. Laurence Fishburne
was waiting for his fight with predator for so many years and in the end died as a complete noob. That was so stupid. They somehow did not know how to end it I think.
@@keenmate9719 It is just a remake of the first movie
@@DJDonnelly Not to me, at least not completely. For me the biggest problem was the amount of characters that really were more like cameos. They were dying way to fast for my liking. I would also removed the dogs, I mean why would a predator that enjoys a hunt more than life send a dog to do the killing?
Looking back, I think this is the only Predator sequel that reveals enough new information about the Predator aliens without revealing too much or disrespecting the essence of the character. I just watched the new film, and sadly, it was quite bad.
I didn't mind Predator 2. It wasn't a patch on the original, and had some silly moments...but it wasn't as bad as some people make out.
The thing I like about Predator 2 is that it really seemed like a hunter who preferred to challenge itself. Rather than sit back fully camouflaged and firing its plasma caster with lock on targeting, the Yautja in this film leaps into the fray against opponents armed with deadly ranged weaponry and slaughters them in close combat. Also, I like how taxing the fight appeared to be for Glover, and how luck seemed to be an integral element in his victory, but in a believable and not plot convenient way. I'm not hating on the previous film - I do like it - but these elements make this film a lot more entertaining for me.
Even though it was a loss that Schwarzenegger was not in this, Terminator 2 made up for it
Glad he didn't show up. His character turned into a bad guy. He was the original Keyes.
@@incanticle699 what
Is that real ? ok then
@@loayprettyboy206 yeah. He was supposed to be hunting the predator in the city with the same exact character archetype.
I actually don't consider it a loss, he was good in OG it but he didn't make the movie for me. I didn't mind his absence in pt2, his story was told.
One of my favorite sequels ever
2:32 I love how Ollie can't stop himself from laughing at the future of 1997
Predator 2 was not a letdown it was fantastic. I decided not to see it when it came out in the cinema because Arnold was not in it but boy was I wrong. This is on par with the first. The characters are not as fleshed out, however the main character the predator is. We get more gadgets.
They did get the thermal imaging right in this film compared to the first for Predator
The dancing predators rock.
Roger Ebert is disappointed that a slasher movie comes across as a slasher movie.
lol thank you! my gosh i'm sitting here screaming that ebert thinks violence in a movie entitled, 'Predator,' is a bit much. what?!
Reminds of today's "games journalists" complaining about fanservice in fanservice games. Really...
Feds I never relly thought of predtor as a slasher it a.ways seemed like a glactic hunter film to me
I love hearing these reviews from decades after the fact, at the time it's release, though it wasn't successful in theaters, it was a huge cult hit with most fans of the series that I personally knew. We loved it.
"Less violence," are you fucking kidding me?! Its the Predator! A ruthless brutal hunter that skins his prey and takes their heads as trophy. To ask for less violence in a movie featuring the predator is like asking for a comedy to have less jokes and funny scenes.
What, no mention of Morton Downey, Jr. in the film? "This is Tony Pope, live with Hard Core. On the scene and in your face!"
That dance clip was freaking awesome! Thats how you do the PREDATOR STYLE. 👍🏽👍🏽
This movie had some weaknesses but damn it was still amazing with Danny Glover's and Gary Busey's energy fleshing it out. I loved Kevin Peter Hall's more aggressive turn as city hunter predator code named GHost. Veteran actor the late Calvin Lockhart aka King Willie faceoff against Ghost is indeed the most memorable scene in the movie. Bill Paxton just brought heat no matter what movie he was in.
I really love Danny Glover in this. He REALLY gives it a lot of energy. The scene after he is disciplined & he threatens Keyes is such a great scene. You really believe he is pissed off. I wish there were more African American stars in roles today but I guess Hollywood is just not interested in that market. It's everyone's loss though.
@@tonypass15 I have to agree to a certain extent. Schwarzenegger is a body builder & looks good on film, but Glover is an actor. His work on Lethal Weapon gave the films a certain modesty & class which Gibson couldn't offer.
This is better than Predators(2010) and almost better than the 1st. In some ways it is even.
The creatures of the Alien and Predator movies are so good, a film quality level of Predator 2 (or Alien 3) is perfectly adequate to carry the awesome world building and extraterrestrial genetics mythos it needs and what I mostly require!
Though Prometheus, AvP, and AvP:R were real stinkers, especially the latter two which were real letdowns too.
And let's not mention the disgusting abomination of Resurrection....
Would of been amazing if they had made a predator 3 in around 1992 with both Arnold and Danny brought back to help deal with a new predator treat and in a different environment like a desert
I like your review series, and wholeheartedly agree with a commentator from another review. You don't need to include segments of Siskel and Ebert's reviews. You don't need their help.
You're reviews, and personal style are good.
+Thomas Hudson Thanks Thomas, don't worry i stopped using Siskel and Ebert clips about 2 years ago :)
+Oliver Harper Thank God. Every time I hear them ripping on a movie you're reviewing, which, btw, you have excellent taste in cause I've seen/loved most of the ones you do, it just pisses me off. If I wasn't so damn lazy/lack editing skills, I've been told I should do movie reviews. Mainly because I'm not big on ripping movies to pieces.
+Oliver Harper If you wont be using Siskel & Ebert then maybe have some similar segment of what critics tought of the film at the time of release.
+Thomas Hudson My thoughts too. I got so sick of them although they're relevant in the godzilla review. Just I saw enough of them as a kid, I'm quite over them.
I agree; the review stands on it's own, the informative style and detail are enough to provide a quality review.
The S&E segments are not only unnecessary but aggravating in their trademark cluelessness, one of them criticises a film about an intergalactic sport hunter for its violence.
While i've always enjoyed the original Predator, there's something in Predator 2 that makes me like it more.
It always just felt more grounded and relatable than having a bunch of body-builders walk through the jungle...
markotark there were 1 ex bodybuilder , arnold and then ex navy seal wrestler, jesse ventura... All others were normal
Well that's one of the reasons that Predator 1 works better in the horror aspect. It takes place in a far less familiar harsh jungle. I know neither of the two are horror movies per se, but the first is objectively scarier. When there are comedic bits with an old woman in an apartment, we all can relate to the setting and thus tension evaporates right in the middle of the third act. Going into the depths to wind up inside the ship was a good call to get the audience back into unfamiliar territory and salvage the ending. Now P1 had a subtle gag when his arm blades slice right down with Arnold's neck in between, but the tension spikes right then instead of making us laugh. It's more of an oh snap moment, but still leans toward the funny side. P1 has a very consistent tone whereas P2 jumps from scary gorefest to "want some candy" kid to special forces team getting slaughtered to old lady one-liners.
markotark Their physiques would not be out of the norm for current/former SFOD-D guys.
The first one felt like the only thing they were going for was having multiple Rambos go at an alien in the jungle. The basic premise wasn’t all that creative, and the scenes involving the Predator were easily the best and most memorable. The 2nd movie took the first one’s strongest points and built the movie upon that. You can feel and see the desperation (especially with Danny) in the fights against it, especially as he and the Predator become more and more wounded as time goes on. It was just an all around great action/horror/sci-fi movie and although it is obviously a product of its time, it’s still a great one.
Loved the picture and especially Bill Paxton, RIP brother.
Criminally underrated sequel. It's much better than this review would have you think. Great popcorn action movie
They talk like this movie did poorly and was not well received..... yet everyone I know and pred fans online talk praises of this film. not as good as the first, but still right up there IMO.
Who's they? you mean me the reviewer?
Oliver Harper Not you in particular, I meant Siskel and Ebert. They rated it harshly, yet many people enjoyed and liked this movie that I know.
It's a pretty good movie in its own right. I just think people were expecting something along the lines of what the first film was like and were caught off guard by the direction the sequel took. Personally I find it a very well made film and MILES better than the AVP films.
My dad and I love it. It is actually our favorite one of the two. Don't get me wrong, I love the first one and am a big Arnie fan, but this one feels more exciting.
Don't forget, it's a satire, with a black actor in a lead role. There are lots of good things about this movie, interesting things, not least Danny Glover looking like a white guy covered in dust at the end. I like the fact the monster has a taste for Yardies, and obviously he doesn't kill a pregnant woman, like a gamehunter wouldn't kill a pregnant female, as she produces next generation of game etc. I agree with the two comments below, this is an underrated sequel.
+TheGreaterGood80 Yes. I think both franchises, this one and Robocop, went down the toilet according to the law of diminishing returns...
+James Barnett Well they have an honor system they wouldn't kill her because she's just a mother defending her child or at least that's what it saw instead if an opponent to fight
i like how you research these films... most youtube reviewers just blurt out their opinions, but you back it up with real work
The thing Ebert is tho the swearing is like of los angles back in the day 97 , it not meant be a upper middle class family story ,
I'm actually in the minority here and think this is as good if not better than the original.
I'm probably pretty rare in this opinion, but I find it just as good as the first. At least it wasn't as unoriginal as the third movie...
A worthy sequel. I've always liked this since I was a kid. Shocked to find it's reviews so low. Took the Alien character & expanded on it(but not too much) and in a different location. Deserves an expanded retrospective Oliver Harper!!!
dancing predators..WTF !!! lol...that would be a good t-shirt lol.....n i think im the only one who likes the avp movies, granted the first one was far better than the second but the second did have its moments. ive never heard anybody say anything good about the avp movies tho, oh well to each there own right. great review for both predator movies oliver !!
I know first Predator is a better movie, but i love and enjoy Predator 2 so much more
I'm in the minority here but I always preffered Predator 2. I thought the idea of taking the predator out of the jungle and into the city was a nice touch and made the movie more interesting to me. I'm also in the minority of people who enjoy AVP.
This movie is by far one of the best action movies made in the era
I was sooo happy when i got this from Santa at the annual Christmas family reunion when I was a kid. Love you Mom and Dad
They should release the NC-17 version.
I wish they would I am dying to see it like real badly
I actually liked Predator 2 a little more than the original
ina way i do to, though i think dutch is better character than harrigan i like the city vibe better than the jungle
No
My favorite Predator movie. The action scenes are varied and pretty awesome. Love King Willies death. Just so well executed (no pun intended). Mean spirited?! No more than the first film.
11:15 Funny if the film ended like that. Instead of giving Danny the pistol and blowing up the ship, Danny and the Predator just breakdance.
They should've made a Predator/Lethal Weapon crossover.
bimapringgo kinda what Predator 2 was minus Mel Gibson.
Riggs would be a great match to a Predator!
The Batman vs. Predator comics are dope
Ive just found your videos and man are Siskel and Ebert the most joyless miserable little piles of church ladies in them!
CaptainRufus hahaha some folks love and some hate them. I stopped using clips of them about 2 years ago. Caused to many arguments with my followers.
I see. What a fun thing to deal with.
+CaptainRufus It's mainly because their views/opinions were well out of step with a lot of audiences, even at the time, and especially now.
KRSsven I dunno. There are more church lady types now, mostly on Tumblr. Though at least some of them actually are disaffected not white straight guys.
+CaptainRufus Not white straight guys? What the fuck are you even talking about.
This is a great movie and great sequel. Absolutely underrated as it takes the mythology forward and a different take on the franchise. Love it
Predator 2 i s a masterpiece movie for me. Def a classic 90's movie you can go back now and still enjoy.
Talking about foul language, how about Predators? the copious amount of cussing in that film is hideous, but people seem to be ok with it these days? My, how our standards have dropped.
Excellent review, very easy to watch and enjoyable insight.
***** It's called having standards... and "sheltered"? please, not possible in this day and age.
anyone else notice the illuminati pin on Garry Buseys tie...
This movie is fantastic and never boring.
That cut where King Willy gets his head cut off is wicked. Good review mate.
I've watched 2 more than one - love it to bits. Bring hardrated sci-fi, big budget schlock fests!
This a great youtube channel. Especially if ur a movie buff!
One of Oliver’s best reviews, in my opinion.
I liked Predator 2 a lot.
They added a lot to the Predator mythology.
Underrated IMO.
I remember the girl in the yellow halter top in the subway scene.
I really don't get the hatred this film gets.
Me neither. Most excuses are so assbackwards and stupid.
What would be wonderful to see is the NC-17 original cut. Especially in 4k
Great video, really good review. I actually love this movie, it's great to just watch.
Those guys reviewing this are idiots. No clue how leaving the monster out of sight and unforgiving makes it so much more terrifying. Nor do they realize that leaving the motive of the monster vague grabs people's attention and leads to more fan theory. Which has lead to at least 4 more movies.
I was a fan of the original Dark Horse Predator and Aliens comics. When Aliens vs Predator came out, it was AMAZING! The art and story were second to none. How could the studio go wrong if they made an AvP movie. Right? Wrong. Instead of using the breadth and wealth of good story of the comics, Fox instead decides to err on the side of repetitiveness and make a movie based on the 'mouse in the dark maze' formula. Just like all of the rest of the Alien movies. Every single time, the protagonists are stuck in some sort of maze-like environment as the alien picks each of good guys off one by one. Very formulaic and most of all: boring.
I shake my head all the time when re-reading the comics because they are so intelligent and good. Yet Hollywood does the same shit over and over and over. When will they ever learn. There is a famine of good movies and we are bombarded with stupid crap day in and day out.
+MICHAEL MAH PHOTOGRAPHY If they'd filmed AvP: Prey, with maybe a few tweaks, the AvP films would've been a fantastic addition to both franchises. As it is, most people have only seen them once or twice and have largely forgotten they even exist, which is for the best.
But AVP is based on the first AVP comic its just on earth and they switched the asian hero to a black.
The setup ofc is different but there is also a old Alien comic with a identical setup, a lost temple in the desert.
Overall i liked AVP but the pasing was rushed and in the end it was just the a mix of the first AVP comic, a Alien comic and HP Lovecrafts At the Mounten of Madness.
Agreed. They did some interesting stuff with the comics.
This movie is criminally underrated and I will die on this hill
Underrated movie, i think its just as good as the first one but for its own reasons
You do awesome reviews. Giving new insight. I love this stuff.
Odin Aesthetic Thank you very much buddy!!
I totally agree. I always learn a thing or two at least from each retrospective!
Graphic violence is absolutely fine but god forbid there's more than one f word
I think you and your format are awesome.
I liked how you almost laughed when you said "The Future of 1997". LOL!
Damn. Siskel and Ebert were garbage critics.
AvP 1 is okay. AvP 2 is horrible. AvP 1 is a popcorn movie. Its just stupid fun. The second one is too dark to be entertaining.
So true avp2 is so dark, if you watch it during the day, you can't see any thing and even at night with the light out you get really fusturated
over the years it's grown on me. Watching I realize its a clever play on "Dante's Inferno". One of the characters even say "It's Dante's Hell down here!!!!" Then everybody is always sweating and complaining about the heat, then Harrigan has to go into the bowels of the city to get the predator. And that score by Alan Silvestri is some of his finest work. granted all his early work was great it sounded "back to the futurish"
Loved Oliver keeping it together after saying the name John Thomas at 2.32 😁
