At the beginning of quarantine, i was 16, and 265lbs. I worked my ass off to lose 100lbs during quarantine. I hadn’t left my house much during this time, so i didn’t have much experience in my “new body”. At the end of quarantine, i went from being obese to toned and muscular, and noticed i was treated completely differently. Women actually noticed me for once, and guys treated me with more respect. Lookism felt like i was rewatching the last few years of my life. People really do treat you completely differently based on looks and i have lived it firsthand

fatness, obesity, it's not related to looks though. loosing weight and becoming muscular isn't going to magically turn a short little 5'1 guy into a 6'1 basketball player. gaining muscle mass doesn't put hair back on a prematurely balding mans head. weightlifting doesn't pin back dumbo ears, or shorten a big nose, or thin out big fat guppy lips, or increase the size of a dudes jawline. do these things really matter in the long run?, NO, not really, not like some of these looks obsessed guys claim. but it's extremely disrespectful and offensive to conflate things caused by poor life choices, eating too much, being a greedy pig, and things that people can't change due to poor genetics.

The switch to a gangster fighting genre in Lookism is a great decision because it exposes the negative aspects of Korean society while improving on the original story. By introducing characters such as Johan, Eli Jang, and Big Deal, the story delves into the struggles of those living in poverty and how they cope with the harsh realities of their lives. Johan, for example, had to fight and steal to afford an eye surgery for his ill mother. Meanwhile, Eli Jang had to protect his new family, because his biological family had abandoned him as a child. Big Deal's current leader, Jake Kim, was also struggling to make ends meet to be able to protect his street, only for it to end up in the hands of the largest criminal organization in Seol. These stories paint a vivid picture of the struggles of those living in poverty and the lengths they must go to survive. By exploring these themes, Lookism offers readers a more in-depth and nuanced look at the issues plaguing Korean society. It is ironic that some people are repelled by the switch in genre for Lookism, as the show is actually trying to make an important statement about how people judge things too quickly. Through the story of its characters, Lookism illustrates the power of stereotypes and prejudice and how they can shape people's perspectives. By introducing the gangster fighting genre, the show highlights how even something as seemingly innocent as a television show can be judged harshly for its genre. In this way, Lookism serves as a cautionary tale about the dangers of making snap judgments and speaks to the importance of taking the time to get to know something before passing judgment.

Yeah, it's been known for a long time that attractive people have a significantly better life than unattractive or average people. IIRC, it's called the Halo Effect. If you're attractive people will ascribe all sorts of positive traits to that person, find it difficult to believe negative things about said person, be more forgiving of mistakes, and are more likely to jump to the defense of the attractive person. As David and Andrew said, all these little things DO affect the formation of someone's confidence, self-esteem, etc...
This is also something all groups can recognize (lookism), even if some groups are more extreme about it than others (as stated, East Asia is insane about imposing this one, really narrow beauty ideal for men and women).

    • @nunyabaznus7851

that's false. the Negative halo usually overrides any small benefit. watch that Netflix show "The Boys". they portray this captain america type superhero as an evil sociopath douchebag, and the ugly guys are the brave noble heroes fighting injustice, while this tall handsome good looking guy is the true villain of the story. the media has been pushing this same old drum beat since Revenge of the Nerds in 1980. the King of Queens, and The Big Bang Theory. woomeen are influenced by this propoganda and will view good looking guys as cheaters, players, fu*kboys, Mimbos, male bimbos. and view unattractive guys as sweet, kind, caring, lovable goofballs with a heart of gold.

    • @RicochetForce
      @RicochetForce Před rokem +3

@@nunyabaznus7851 Please go reread the studies done on this. Tall, attractive people are significantly more likely to benefit from positive appraisals than average or below-average people.
The Halo effect is strong, and frequently leads people to seek wisdom, guidance, advice, etc... from people that are flat out LESS qualified uglier folks. This winds up overlapping with we see from the Dunning-Kruger effect where folks who aren't as skilled as experts feel the most confident to chime in and believe themselves competent.
In our media dominated age we are bombarded with this nasty confluence. A lot of low skill, incompetent people who are getting attention mainly because they're attractive, tall, and attractive.

I'm a guy that people would look again or turn their heads whenever I pass them. I'm good looking based on Asian standards, though I'm not so tall.
But what you quickly learn is that looks may attract people, but keeping them is a whole another beast.
I don't have a strong character, I'm not shy but an introvert and I'd rather stay alone than with a bunch of people talking about a bunch of useless gossip, and even when I'm with people, I don't say much, and that slowly but surely pushed people away even though I'm good enough looking to have people turn their heads whenever I walk past them.
So even if you are not that good looking, if you have the personality that's likable, you can put it to more uses than just looks alone.
And with girls, I was asked out by a number of girls and I did with some of them, but they were always first to break up with me because they couldn't feel any vibes in me. They couldn't tell whether I liked them or not,or they couldn't tell whether they are with a man or a robot.

Every culture has a historical beauty standard, with the mangwa of 'Lookism' I notice western shallowness with brand name materilism was prevalent in what was portrayed, I know various asian cultures vary, but I'm ignorant to what is trully Korean culture before western and world interaction influenced forty years ago to present day. Lastly on the subject of having above average looks whether male or female, I lived enough to know it can lead to narcism, pride, and arrogance add to it being a cut throat rat in the race you deserve the karma you will eventually get in this life or the next, beauty can be aquired by good or evil people and their is nothing more I can say.

Where as Europeans, I'm going off of Caucasian standards here, look at the eye color, the hair color, and smile for the most part.
Proper hygiene, good style and life style are nothing but bare minimum. So you need to have all the elements above right on top of proper hygiene, life and clothing style in Asia.

I'm not bothered by those elements since I'm pretty good looking even based on the picky Asian standards though I'm not tall. I'm not buff buff but I do have a fit body as well and I do dress trendy unless the trend does not suit me. so.
And I have to say again that is a talking point of again a Cockasians because it's a default that you guys don't care about those minor details about your facial features. That's why plastic cergery is so common in Asia, particularly in Korea and Japan, because they are all about those minor details.
Not saying it's healthy. But there is a cultural difference at play here and what's healthy depends on different cultures I'd say.

You can do all of that and still be average or below. What truly makes a person attractive is genetic. A fat guy can become fit just to find out that he’s still not attractive

@@TricksterLawlet Have you tried to become fit and found this out or know many guys who had to face that? In my eyes a simple fact of having a fit body makes someone more attractive. It doesn't reduce, only adds.
