  • The Tiguan doesn't have the mainstream appeal of a Toyota RAV4 or Honda CR-V, but it does bring much to the table for people that need a practical yet compact SUV. Other main competitors include the Mitsubishi Outlander, Subaru Forester and Mazda CX-5.
Thank you, Royal on the Eastside, for letting me test drive a few Tiguans over the years.

I had a 2018, 2020, and now the 2023 Tiguan, and find they got better with each gen. A tad poky is my only complaint (although felt improved between gens I owned), does get great gas mileage, so a trade off there. I think they need to offer a Tiguan R with more HP.

and i think for a car where is now 7 years in production, this second generation Tiguan is from 2016, they do not have quality and reliability issues more.

I have a 2019, and I always keep the transmission in S mode, which improves responsiveness and doesn't gear hunt or upshift when you don't want it to. S should be D in this car and D should be an Eco mode.

have you concisered get a tune from apr? we just got a 2023 this week. one reason i want to get this was because we had the same engine in our 2017 audi a3. we had a 114k miles on it. plenty of power for the sedan and great fuel mileage. feels decent in the tiguan but def doesnt feel the same with the extra weight. still happy with the fuel mileage though

Good assessment of Tiguan quality/reliability. According to Consumer Reports latest reliability data, the Tiguan is “below average”. However, Volkswagen as a brand is ranked 22 out of 24 brands, and the Taos is ranked the lowest!

All this talk about reliability. My wife had a 19 tiguan se with not a single issue and returned the lease back at 36k. She got a 23 se with black and cinnamon interior. Drives better than the 19. I know 36k is not a-lot of miles but you MUST stay on top of maintenance intervals with VW.

What you should do is call the VW support and ask them to connect to a supervisor, let them know the issue, tell them dealer is not able to fix it, say a reverse camera(screen) is compulsory under the US regulations and you cannot drive it if it keeps shutting down. Leave the car at the dealer and ask for a VW paid rental till they fix it permanently…
