What do you want to see in Blake's Bike cave? Let us know đ
personally i wouldnt put a tool board , i would put wooden planks like seth (seth bike hacks) did in his garage , its looking awsome : P
Global Mountain Bike Network instead of putting knobs on the doors (since you have a great clean look) you should put on a magnetic door catch so you push on the door and they pop open! đ
Deffo like mentioned previously go for the magnetic popping doors it is a proper clean look and when it comes to asthetics go for the metal look on the floor and run LED's under the kickboard so the light reflects off the floor (plus it would be easier for cleaning etc), and for the corner you could have a truing stand for wheel builds or even wall mounted containers for, rotor bolts, stem bolts, cable ties, all your little bits and bobs đđ»đŻ, hope this helps blake
Coffee machine and soft drinks cupboard like Seth's bike hacks
I think a properly sorted tool board looks amazing. Surely you are considering a tea station somewhere in there. I dont know how much you have in the way of electronic stuff to charge, and likely you do so inside, but there is a pretty cool shelf you can build with ply scrap for a cordless tool dock, the chargers and the kit for your tools is up top, and your drill and impact driver hang in slots below. It's pretty handy to keep it all in one location and tidy
Dude, GMBN needs to make this a regular series after the quarantine. So good.
But he will have finished it?
@@donaldduck389 Blake builds could be this fantastic person building anything. Such energy!
Yes, and when Blakeâs done get all the other presenters build one
Blake's bike cave and Matt Jones' trails are what's getting me through this lockdown đ
scottymtb stoked!!!
Same
Same dude
Agreed
hhahhhahahahahaha litterly same here man
Idea: Use bike chains as handles for the cupboards
Erik Griffin like the welded ones
Jockey wheels or stem caps.
Cornwall's Answer yeah, bar ends for the drawers!
Am i the only one that wishes they were older so they could convert there whole house to a massive bike cave
Tom Stefaniak ye lol
Tom Mtb I also would love to do that
same
me too
Or be like seths bike hacks and have your own trails aswell lol
As a professional carpenter and an amateur mountain biker, I am impressed with Blake's work. It's not easy to make nice looking cabinets without much experience, they are a complicated thing to work out in so many ways! Great job for a first time especially without a table saw! You might have more talents than you thought.......
I like how he wares the POC goggles
Gotta keep that sawdust out the eyes!
Was thinking the same. Blake not riding, still finds a use for goggles.
Eye protection, check. Hearing protection... whoops.
Wears*
Global Mountain Bike Network yeah man gotta stay safe while corona is on
I think you have a future in woodworking. For someone that has never built a workbench before, you're doing an excellent job! Keep up the great work Blake!
Canât wait to see the finished product
Me to
Watch the Dirt shed show and you will have already seen it.
Yeah same kieran đđŒđđŒ
@@M3PH11 Nah, we want to see the process, some cups of tea, some mistakes and a lot of weird dance!
GMBN should definitely keep this series going. It's only been two episodes but I am stoked for episode 3!!! It has inspired me to build my own bike cave.
Love Blake builds, I need his energy. The animation on this series is cool. Now we need a GMBN animated series starring all the presenters đ€.
Blake! Blake! Blake!! What a fantastic job you are doing with your Garage/Bike Cave, I just love IT! and your energy is so addictive on all your projects. As a 56 year old watching you inspires me to get out there and ride so thanks. Keep up the good videos and Stay Safe.
Blake could put a drinks fridge on the right hand side of the units on top of the worktop. Enjoying this series of building a workshop, amazing work Blake.
Nice progress... Suggestions: Overhead shelf over window, mounted just below gas pipe to hide it... with hooks on underside to hang stuff from... you need a TV in there somewhere, and make your garage door more secure (maybe deadbolts from inside and enter the space through side door, plus good mesh on the windows and side door locks - see Doddy's video on security and locking your bikes up at home... a ground anchor maybe? with that corner, think about other things besides bicycles that you may want to do in the space... motorbike stuff, mechanics tools... what bike repair stand are you planning on?... free standing, or a bench or wall mount one from Park Tool? With the shadow board for tools, add strips of scrap to the back to clear the pipe... and layout all your tools when the board is horizontal, draw around them for place holders, and then, when it is on the wall, just add the pins / screws / nails or such to hold them in position... Don't forget lots of powerpoints - at both ends, some with USB ports for all that stuff that needs charging... phone, cameras, lights, etc... but with that gas line and meter inside the place, not sure if a bench grinder would be recommended...
Blake, you should use old bike components/spares as door handles for the cupboards đ
Loving this series, canât wait for episode 3 đ€
Yes yes yes!! So gooooood!!
Few ideas...
Lighting in the over head storage ?
5cm holes as door knobs ?
A bar for hangers ?
...
Definitely lighting under the wall cupboards. Lights in the cupboards are also amazing. You'll never lose anything ever again.
just when i was bored, GMBN uploads Blake's 2nd episode, nice~~
DustRaptor SICK!!!!
Watching Blake build is really satisfying and therapeutic
Iv been a joiner for about 6 years and I think Iâd struggle making as good a job as Blakeâs done here! Thatâll outlive any modern kitchen đđŒ
This made it to the trending list on CZcams. Congrats!
Would look awesome if the door handles, knobs etc. weâre all made of old bike parts. Chains, gears, levers, grips, axel nuts etc. Any workshop stool should also incorporate a dropper post! Maybe some bike lights for work lamps?
Blake is freakin' awesome! Haha. Hope he hangs his bike there somewhere on the wall, cause for "inspiration", nothing beats your own sexy bike and helmet gear etc on display (instead of just tools). Can't wait to see the finished outcome!
That right hand corner should be your studio set up for future GMBN videos and blake builds. A flood light installed there would be good for work and videos.
Just finished re organising my garage.. again. It's really really nice now but its crazy how long it took. I'm talking organising bit biding the whole garage so Blake's project is crazy! Really looking forward to how it turns out. A round about what it all cost would be super interesting as well if the diying is not just more customisable but also cheaper
It's shaping up really nice! It would look mint if you painted all the cupboards to hide the nasti looking chipboard grains, sand and seal the bench top. I'd say mostly overhead shelves and try keep as much bench space as possible. Maybe wall mount a small tv on a swing arm in that corner and can be folded flat and out of the way? Just keep it simple and clean, especially IF you might record videos in there. What about a fold down island bench!? That you can use when needed or as a desk when doing sit down videos/presentation? The end and legs mounted on strong gate hinges that can be golden up flat against the wall when not needed and can still store your motor bike in front of it then roll the bike out and fold down when needed
Love the look and build of this. Really well crafted. Only thing missing is power sockets for your tools/chargers/GMBN TV etc. Plus the obvious bike part decoration that comes later.
For any gaps in joints of wood, make a slurry out of wood glue and sawdust and fill it in. Let it dry and sand and youâll never see it! Great job Blake
Martin Joyce great tip. I remember doing that in wood work at school. Canât go wrong with that technique
I think there should be a wiggly Blake doll on the countertop. You know one like the shaky
Elvis. Blakes moves are so awesome đ
Good work, Blake! You mention door knobs at the end -- you might have some trouble fitting these into the right angle corner cabinets, based on the tight clearance demonstrated @11:27. Just spacing the handle further toward the middle of the door would be the simplest solution, but might look a little weird. Other possible options: switching which side one of the doors' hinges are on, cutting a recessed "finger slot" type handle instead of a protruding knob, or redesigning around a "lazy susan" style door (a single, two-piece, hinged door covering both cabinets with specialized hinges; this would obviously require the most re-working).
Separately, for the three adjacent cabinets I would definitely consider flipping the hinges of one of the drawers to the right -- this will essentially make two of the cabinets a pair that can be easily opened together by spreading the doors left/right outward from the center. As you have it now, with adjacent cabinets open, there will always be a door sticking out in the middle. This could make it harder to find stuff if you are not sure which cabinet it's in, or if moving stuff around as you decide how you want to organize your workshop.
Honestly, Blake and the energy he gives off is why I love GMBN
Love the jeep! Should do a walk around of what its got for off roading and for the bikes! Garage is lookin deadly! Love the top planks. Much nicer than plywood!
Tyler Ross Iâll do a walk around for sure.
This is making me want to rip out my garage/bike cave and start again similar to Blakeâs build. I bought off the shelf items but really like the homemade and bespoke build going on here. Canât wait for the next episode.... awesome work guys, well done Blake - youâre right to be proud!!! Love and peace, stay safe fellow mtb bikers!
Awesome!! don't forget some work station lights, some lacquer to protect the wood, right corner, cover it in plywood and hooks to have wall mounts for your most used tools (easy quick access). keep up the awesome work!
Idea: drill holes in the cuboard doors as handles
Jack Edwards Big holes, sand and smooth the inner surface, perfection!
Could cut triangles in the top corners and fix his cutting boo boo on the gas line cupboard.
I like how Blake is wearing POC goggles instead of safety glasses Lol
Looking wicked! Donât bother with door knobs. Drill a hole in each door (like 25mm) and use that to open. Will look very smart and be flat. Or better still cut two holes a little apart and cut out the middle section to achieve a rounded rectangle hole. Vertical on cupboards, horizontal on the draws.
Looks so good, your content is still amazing even though weâre on lockdown
L & R speaker shelves or a long shelf above the gas line. A mini fridge for popsicles and drinks as well as a mounted fan. Besides bike mounts, I think those are the only things left that I would need.
I would say leave the corner until you finish and see what you still need. If nothing needed then a cool memorabilia area to make it look cool. Big respect looks dope .
The quality of the eedits is getting better day by day SO GOOD BLAKE!
"Hi my name is Blake Samson and Im going to build a pimp ass bike cave"đ
Pimp my cave
Some good way to store your bikes. Also somewhere to have your stereo setup. Perhaps speakers up on shelves in the corners. Nothing better than having the tunes blasting when working on your bikes! Looking great so far!
I would 100% recommend a Karcher WD 2 shop vacuum, pretty inexpensive and does a great job of keeping your bike cave tidy and dust free!
love the attitude man and the simplicity of the design. Inspirational.
Got to have a neon sign somewhere, maybe some old school bike memorabilia. Seriously impressed with the work, basic and simple yet effective. Or I love the thought of an old damaged bike cut in half or a quarter and attach it to the wall.
Blake man all you need is a car wash roller system to was you and your bike at the same time EPIC vids youâve got more tools than me and Iâm a builder. Canât wait for episode 3
Dave Parrish hahaha more tools than you. Never have enough tools
You make it look possible for anyone to attempt a workshop build with a bit of planning... shows nothing too tricky if you take your time and measure 3 or 4 times and cut once.. plus overcoming mistakes is all part of the learning process. Maybe not how a joiner would make it but who cares as long as it works.... Good Jobđ€đđ€
Looking great there Blake. Very high standard for diy
It would be wise to get some of those moisture trap silica gel things to leave inside each cupboard to help prevent mould. They don't cost much and will save your kit getting ruined or tools rusting if the garage is unheated. I also chuck the sachets that come in electronic stuff in my drawers.
Put sound panels on the ceiling to cut down the echo when filming. It would also be cool to see everything stained or painted.
Shane Harder I was thinking of painting the units and varnishing the tops
Been waiting for this for so long :)
Put a Tea station in the corner? And perhaps knobs on the doors make it look abit better and help you open the cupboards đnice building Blake.
Mate you're doing a cracking job. Looks proper man-style.
Can't wait to see it all finished.
I've got to say as a subscriber to a bunch of woodworking channels, seeing someone use metric feels so good. When you said 9.5 centimetres my brain automatically tried to convert it to centimetres and I was like wait, I don't need to convert. It's not in freedom units.
Blake is a riot. I love this guy.
I love how Blake is using his bike goggles instead of safety glasses
Did the same while rebuilding my bike cave the other day, actually works sooo good!
Samuel probably works better with all the saw dust.
True
Great work Blake. Can't wait to see the finished project. Just bought a house next to the woods and I'm grateful for some inspiration.
Blake, Thank you bringing laughter to us! This was awesome to watch. Suggestions for the cave includes:
1. Radio Shelf, maybe on the right side of the window
2. Park tool wall mounted bike stand
3. Shelving over the window
4. Shoe rack in wardrobe
5. Hooks everywhere for anything
6. Pegboard for tools
7. Long 12 outlet power strip
8. Over head lights and interior shelving lights
Blake's have some serious Carpenter skills wow!
French cleat wall would be nice for storing and hanging a variety of tools and consumable items.
Save that sawdust man, mix it with a bit of pva to rub in any gaps on the worktop if there are any.
What a build man.
The first 2 episodes of your bike cave build where great Blake, can't wait for the 3rd......all I need now is a garage!!!!
Sick build Blake! One thing I would say is to put a small lip around the bench to stop any small parts from rolling off.
Amazing job Blake, I would be over the moon with that.
There is a perfect place in the corner for a fridge with a stuff that biker can't live without. I mean for golden sparkling drink!
So good Blake! Don't forget about the lighting, a workshop needs proper lights!
I would put a thin sheet of galvanised tin over all or part of the bench top. It's great for overhauling shocks and other greasy/oily jobs. You just wipe off the mess and it doesn't soak in. Get it folded up somewhere if you can't do it yourself so it covers the front edge of the bench and isn't sharp.
Could be a nice finishing touch there Michael!
I was literally looking for this last night, and waking up to the notification, GREAT!!!!!
A couple of ideas
A vice on the workbench
Helmetor mounts ( just for the bling )
LED strip for lighting in cupboards
Bike clamp on the opposite wall
Very cool Blake! If you go for door nobs be careful on the corner cupboard. You don't want them to stop the other door from closing. The holes in doors is a good idea. Keep up the good work dude.
Smashing it bro! Loving the handiwork!! Keep the vids comin bro!
Another episode of my idol!!
Happypill: energetic blake!
Maybe some corner shelves for the RH corner? it would be awesome to see some cool lighting installation! and perhaps some bike inspired/repurposed handles for the cupboards and drawers. Cool episodes man! đ
Top tip* when cutting out an intrigate part like at 3:56, tape over the parts you dont want to cut. The red insolation tape will stick out like a sore thumb and youll avoid scrapping the wood.
I'm in the process of building my own bike cave right now and this has been really helpful for ideas. Nice work! Can't wait to see the next episode.
Blake,
Please tell me you going to paint it all.
Definitely should paint the doors 1 colour and all the frames and the drawer pulls another. Would make it all pop!
Also, your doing pretty well there mate. Being a joiner/cabinet maker myself, there was definitely a lot you could of done to make that all easier for yourself and to look better but hey for your first go, not bad mate, not bad.
Hey Blake, Excellent carpentry work. Its looking really good. The flush fit cabinet doors are a nice touch.
Whatâs funny is that gmbn blurred out the number plate at 15:11 and then in the next scene you can see it clearly.
Look out for those tiny details guys! Your doing great just watch out!
Gotta hand it to you Blanke, I did not expect this level of quality đđ
Looks spot on, depending on your door knobs you might have to have the corner cupboards opening the other way round so they don't hit each other.
Absolutely epic video. Love all of it. This series is getting me through quarantine
Been waiting for Ep2 đ, another great video, can't wait to see what's next Blake! Keep them coming đđ»
In stead of doorknobs i would drill holes in the cupboard doors. Like 2-3 cm in diameter, that way you don't risk things getting tangled on the knobs when your working there. :)
Love following this build and the channel in general,
For above your worktop I would say shelves shelves and more shelves
Mainly for all them reach to items
Like sprays/ nuts/bolts/parts/rags/boxes etc
Look forward to the next
i dont know why this series is so satisfying to watch. cheehuu!
Never, never, never underestimate the pleasure of having alot of bench space. Do not fill up the right bit. Some shelves, absolutely. But do not block the bench!
Blake you should add
Lights under the over head storage
Hooks in the cupboard
A peg board under rhe over head storage
Line the draws with silicone mats or something
Just a few ideas loving the series so far
Callum Blair those are all rad ideas. Love them.
I saw you had an attic in that garage. If itâs big enough you should make a hangout place with chairs and a couch and a mini fridge. Me and some buddyâs did that and it worked out amazing đ€
Everything looks great so far. Just add some handles or knobs to the doors and drawers. Love watching the videos. You make everything look like a blast
A man of many talents đđ» if you have any old scrap kashima stanchions kicking around, use them as cupboard handles đ€đ»
G'day from Australia
Enjoying the build the dancing is priceless. As far as that right corner gos I think you should leave it as is. So when you need to have a bike or something like that up there you have the room.
You should paint it, put handles on and install some lights into the overhead lockers for extra light. I would put some cool lights everywhere just for estetics
Blake's energy always make my day better ^^ sick build mate! đ€đ€đ€đ€ now, plan on something on those walls! ^^
Blake you should have a wall organizer for tools :) good light and electrical socket and of course garage chair :D
The vice is also useful :)
Maybe you can install some led strips? Think thatâll look cool :)
Love the work! Lighting is always important- good for working and good for videos as well
would recommend putting a computer in that right corner just for practicalities sake, however if you get an arm mount for the monitor, a small form factor pc, and a wireless keyboard and mouse you can just move everything out of the way and use at as a perfect bench space.
Damn dude!! Some quality craftsmanship. Nice work.
Dude Iâm so glad you mitred the worktop!đđŒ
Great episode! Looking forward to the next one. Forgot I was watching GMBN.
You're awesome bro! Mad skills on the trails AND with a skill saw! Also never thought of using ski googles as safety glasses. What a great idea.
