- It all starts with the trail. The crunch of the dirt, the smell of a dewy morning ride, or the feeling of brushing away pebbles with a perfectly timed belly scrub. These are the happy memories of a trail dog’s life well lived.
Raven is a 13-year-old retired trail dog from Squamish, British Columbia who’s spent countless days frolicking on loamy singletrack beneath towering spruces. Old age has slowed her down, and now Raven happily lies in the driveway, watching dog after dog, and their human, head for the hills.
Celebrating the joys of mountain biking through the eyes of the trail dog, Raven takes us from her driveway memories in BC to the high deserts of Utah, to freshly cut South African trails and back again. We meet some of the feistiest, four-legged trail personalities along the way, who all enjoy the mountain bike world in their own way, just like us humans do, whether it’s hitting jump lines, lapping through the loam, or setting out to build new trail.

I will never get tired of watching dogs fly over rollers.
didnt you win an oscar last night ?
Agreed 👍
Both parties are having great time.
@@BenDover1500 You, my friend are mistaking Mikkel Nielsen, the character from Netflixˋs Dark with Mads Mikkelsen, the danish actor!
@@danielschwendinger8382 nah. I looked it up. This guy ( mikkel e.g. nielsen) won an Oscar for editing or something.
@@BenDover1500 Hey, you‘re right. That guy‘s name is also Mikkel Nielsen. Now I really wanna know, does an oscar winning editor comment on youtube under a video about dogs on trails or is it some kid whose creativity ended at the last netflix at the last netflix series he saw, when he subscribed to yt 2 years ago 😂
Damn, this really tore me up. I recently lost my 13 year old trail buddy, and this was the perfect depiction of her life. Like me, the only time she was truly alive was when we were in the mountains. This was absolutely beautiful.
She is still shredding the trails wherever she is =)
I'm sorry for your loss
Yes she's in shred heaven ! Greetings from Colorado !!! From me and my two Pitties
Sorry to hear that bro ☹️ dog are the greatest companions
We sent our 15 yr old Ziggy over the Rainbow Bridge in one of our favorite forest spots over a year ago. To this day whenever I'm running on trail I call out " come on Ziggy! Get me up this hill!"
To the producers of this video: god bless you.
What a great video, I have tears in my eyes.
Me too!! Exciting
Me too
me too, i have no idea why ????
youre not the only one :) love to my dog on a trail

“Trail-dog, Trail-dog, Trail-dog, Trail-dog… SQUIRREL, SQUIRREL, SQUIRREL, SQUIRREL…”. I almost spit coffee outta my nose! Priceless!
best one ever!
As someone training a trail dog, it's very accurate
Yesterday my dog and I ran downhill around a corner and straight into a herd of deer. I usually can stop him from hunting if he spots them form the distance, but there was no way stopping him so close and already running. He went from running to flying and I just accepted it and kept going on the trail, still calling his name, so he found his way back 3min later. :-D
Yes so accurate of a dog ..
@samothco Here in NZ one of mine cross lab, vanished for at least 25 mins in thick forest semi remote west coast after coming across deer ..
Thought ld lost her ,,.
I could watch dogs jumping down trails in slow motion all day. Pure, uncut joy.
Impressive, A vide from a company, Focusing on what title says, Not blurring out or blanking other brands shown in video, Not pushing their name after every corner, Genuinely fresh feeling to the video, Thumbs up! Also Top quality video with stunning camera work.
....just to show people hoe great a bikeride can be

I should not have watched this at work. I have a 14 year old dog and he isn't going to be with me much longer. He has been my best friend and always at my side.
Cherish every day with your dog and stay positive, maybe he is one of those who get really old!!
Same here bud ...😢
I always thought Shimano are one of those rare companies that don't have to ever advertise, but I'm not complaining, that was so emotive and beautifully executed. 👏
And when they get old and arthritic, you build a sidecar so they can still go for rides with you.
So good! And best line ever, “trail dog, trail dog, trail dog…squirrel, squirrel, squirrel” 😂
This is a love letter for all dogs, their human companions, & the free spirit of the ride.
There is something magical, powerful seeing a dog fly over land & obstacles
Listen Shimano... that was one of the -no-that was the best dog cinematography on CZcams or anywhere.
You haven’t watched Paws & Wheels yet...
No, I think this is still the best. Are there awards for CZcams cinematography?
Way to go Shimano! Great video! Thank you for a tribute to trail dogs everywhere! ❤️🐾
That slo mo footage is absolutely incredible
Yeah dog looks like it flying
This almost made me cry and the outro was so good
I did cry. Dogs are the best, and we don't get enough time with them.
I basically didn't stop crying from beginning to end...my dog's health has been declining all year and I know I've only got a handful more trips with her into the back country. This definitely makes me want to make the most of the time we have left with her.
Almost?!
I actually did start tearing up haha
I cried like like the little boy i am
My pit mix at 12 years old is also a retired trail dog she never went far but always loved to go fast. Now I have a 6 month old blue heeler in training and he's loving it so far. We also must acknowledge the fact that everything our dogs do off leash we're responsible for we must protect our dogs and train them. I love a good trail dog but they need to be trained or you could easily hurt them or hurt someone else. I live out in the high desert and rattlesnakes are very common on our trails also coyotes. Take care of your best friend and they'll bring you years of loyalty and fun!
The dogs' precision jumps over roots and whoop-de-doos are just like Olympic hurdlers, chests barely clearing the obstacles. Their eyes are always ahead to the next turn like Formula One drivers. We seldom appreciate the physical and metaphysical accomplishments of animals.
That was so beautiful. Whoever created this video deserves a pay raise! ❤️🐺🚲
..not pay raise..money means nothing..these are GOD'S..need to be raised on the highest pedestal reaching the heavens..amen.
i was literaly crying happy tears throughout the whole video
Running is their essence... We have to create the speed to dream of a small part of it,. That they feel.. The real freedom to fly by running,,, they reach it.. Together the patos grows. His joy your joy,. It is something incomparable and indescribable beauty ❤️🐕
I had to watch this again because it's pure joy seeing dogs run in a natural environment. And like the first time, I am crying. So beautiful!!!
Just a week back, lost our family dog of 12 years to a tumour. Watching this now brings back so much. Good times.
But as much I'm tempted to, won't be raising another one anytime soon. Haing grown up around dogs, getting attached to them and eventually seeing them off. . . man it feels like a part of you gets torn away everytime that happens.
The weight of another life is heavy alright. It is no wonder that the older we get, the more appreciative we often become of those around us.
After all you've felt that pain and understand its weight now. And it's one of those that you never really get over.
Just piles up as you continue walkiing forward, to someday leave behind a part of you on someone else's shoulders to bear. That's life I suppose.
My new all time favorite trail dog video. My oldest is almost 15 but while I limit her distance she hasn't lost any enthusiasm for getting out with me and my bike. My young one just turned two and can go further than me and loves to fly.
Watching a dog do something they love , it makes cry for my Dolly who is not longer around.
Well this is something new, youtube recommendations actually recommending me something enjoyable to watch. Great vid.
As others have said, a lot won't truly understand unless they've got one or if they're lucky more 4 legged, trail friends. Just lost one of mine yesterday and lost my true trail Bud just over 2 years ago, so this video really hit home hard. Excellent work Shimano and all involved, the filming was mazing, the dogs put their humans to shame, amazing scrubs and inside lines. Tears the whole time watching.
I love the way dogs just naturally scrub the rollers and jumps.....it's awesome!
Hoover was my trail buddy. He was a German Shepherd black lab mix with endless endurance and a knack for always knowing where we were headed. That was years ago when both of us were in our prime. I just recently got another pup that I think will be his heir apparent. Thank you so much for sharing this video with all of us who are in the know
Dogs running along the trails when you are biking is one the most awesome things that can happen to you.
Cheers 🥂
✌🏼🙏🏁
Edit: Brings back memories. RIP Toby, Tony and Moarse and the two other small ones which used to follow us.
There is nothing on the planet like the love from a faithful dog 🥲❗️
This is life, true life, true freedom. And despite the loss of my dog three years ago, I bet she is always with me, bike or not. Every step of the way. Like she used to.
You can’t tell me this just aint the coolest thing EVER! Go Dog’s and Humans
I haven't reacted to a video in this way ever. It's a master piece. I lost mine 10 months ago and this had me tearing up involuntarily 5 seconds into her narration. Cried the whole video ... a lot of sad tears and some happy ones hidden in there, The dogs are glorious. We don't even deserve them.
Trail dog, trail dog, trail dog... SQUIRREL! 😂
Amazing movie, great job @anthillfilms and @rideshimano 🙌
The slow motion shots of these dogs jumping the trails is beyond amazing!
Your best friend, your bike. This is life.
I am watching this the day it was confirmed that one of my dogs needs surgery in both of her knees and it made me cry to know she won't be able to join me in the trails anymore. Thank you Shimano, both for the excellent rides and for reminding me that we share this with our best friends as well. I'm happy Banana will still be with me in every other aspect of my life.
I'm not crying I just have something in my tears!!!!
Two of my favourite things right here. Pups and Bikes. 🐶🚴♂️💖
If you're in the UK, head to Staffordshire. There is a trail ride called; Follow The Dog, or Chase the Dog. Set up by the owner as he tried to find decent trail through his new land, and his little Jack Russell terrier, always seemed to find the better route, hence the title. Ita in Cannock Chase, Staffordshire. Decent riding too!
Great Film! Emmy has one mean scrub 🙌
Nicest shots when those dogs flying over trail !!
One of the most beautiful videos I've ever seen in my life, we recently lost our partner who would turn 20 in December 2022. Congratulations Shimano for this video.🐶🐾🐾
this vid made me cry. me and my dog used to jog and bike (not on trails though). but he already passed away when the time I can't go home due to local lockdowns. my mother told me on the last morning of his life, he is lying on my cycling shoes waiting me to come home and go for a last ride. he pass away not seeing me tore my heart.
Wow! This is SPECTACULAR. A big THANK YOU to everyone involved in the production. 👏
The focus those dogs have when carving a turn or clearing a roller is amazing.
Espectacular!!!!
Every time it goes "slow mo", I can't help but watch the pooch's eyes... FOCUS!!!!
Oh man, that got to me. Reminded me of all my old dogs. I'm not crying, you're crying!!!
This is what heaven looks like
dogs can do scrubs so much better than we ever will👍👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks for making me cry Ride Shimano, you people and pups are doing amazing things, and this video is one of them. Happy trails and tails.
What a lovely true reflecting film took me back to when I was a kid with my best little friend. Used to go round the Forrest together for hours n hours yeah a lovely film thank you 🙏
Crazy how I managed to get dust/dirt in my eyes from this video. I'll cry it out real quick; no worries.
Sobbing. Thanks Shimano.
Happy tear in my eye and uncontrolled wide smile.... now that's a great video!
Great cinematography. I loved the close ups that showed the perfect calm and focus in the dogs' eyes while their bodies were flying down the trail. Besides being complete goofballs, dogs are tremendously graceful athletes.
Very touching for anyone who has spent time with dogs in the mountains. There's nothing else like that feeling and the ashes of my trail dogs over my life are waiting for my ashes to return to the mountains together for the last time. ❤
I cry everyday second 👏👏👏👏🇨🇱
This is just beautiful! I wish I could take my dog for one last spin.. Can not understand how you could dislike this.
So many memories of my two first Trail Dogs, A Husky who died 10 yrs Ago, and a multibreed pup who just passed away on Dec' 30, I remain with one trail Dog, but Pandemic restrictions and work didn't let us go to the trail anymore and I know he misses so much run like the wind... And be free
Just go out. Exercising and staying fit is saving lives. Staying at home is doing nothing. It's not like you're mixing with people
@@George-je1fs I live in downtown...on a Capital City....the only park big enough to get a decent Trail in less than 10 miles its full of people on the hours than left people in....I mean seriously full of people breathing heavy, swetting and running, without any Covid Precautions...
@@chacaf22 fair enough then

I’m by no means an anti-masker nut. I masked up wherever required/requested inside and got my 2 Covid vaccinations ASAP months ago. One thing I never did from day 1 was restrict my outside activities. Screw that. I continued to whitewater kayak, mountain bike, backpack, ski virtually daily. Same as always. Actually more due to a lot more flexibility in my work schedule. Lots of folks felt the same - the mountain bike trails never saw so much action as last year and now this spring. The sport has exploded. And trail building has continued at an amazing rate. At least in my neck of the woods. It makes zero sense to restrict outdoor athletic activity in the sun and fresh air. This is what keeps people healthy and happy with vibrant immune systems and zero covid transmission. Sometimes it is wise to follow government mandates. Sometimes you just give them the finger and ride.
Put this in the OLYMPICS 💯
This video may just be the best thing on the internet - ever!
True blue trail dog, choosing all the best lines!

Who let the dogs out?
Sorry, couldn't resist 😁.
BRILLIANT! Thanks for sharing this.
Gotta:
1) Share the link with my dog-nuts pals.
2) Watch it again on a big screen to read all the credits.
Chapeau to the folks who shot and edited the video. Ditto Shimano for starring the dogs (and not their bike tech).
Cheers all!
Beautiful. Thank you.
Wow! Bow wow! I lost my little girl on this day a year ago. She looked like the elder pup. This video captures so well the rip roaring times we had as I rode throughout the fields with her at our farm. Swiftest dog I’ve ever seen, she made me laugh hard as I raced her on my mountain bike. I was fine today, until I saw this video, which brought equal parts amazement, joy and sadness. Kudos to the producers. This was excellent.
This is my new no.1 favorite video on the interwebs. Congratulations Shimano, you won CZcams :)
best mtb video ever !
段差や倒木をワンちゃんがお腹擦るんじゃないかってくらい低い軌道で飛び越えていくのカッコいい。
This video always make me cry. My pup is already 12 years old. Soon my best friend will no longer be with me on the trails. I just thank god I was able to have a trail dog, he may not like Mtb but he loves hitting the trails with me.
Those four legs furry buddies are amazing, look at all of those agility on the trails. Great cinematography & beautifully narrated. This is the best video produced by Shimano 👍🏻😭
Nice to see Turvey in a Shimano video. The guy is a legend and deserves all the good karma coming his way.
A year ago my buddy trail passed away to run the trails of heaven, I hope he is enjoying them as much as those here. Run fast buddy!
Dogs scrubs the jumps so well is insane.
Amazing footage, impeccable editing, the only thing missing was a sad-looking cat, or dogs instinctively picking up litter. Presented a new dimension in trail riding. I'd hate to see the wipe-outs in out-takes because it would diminish the magic.
Thank you to all involved with this production, absolutely amazing. A huge shout out to the people responsible for the camera work, first class job. Best video I have watched in ages.
Dog, the most beautiful creatures in the world. Amazing video.
This is exactly why we have so many beautiful, happy dogos in Squamish ☺️ Amazing ❤️ 🐶 🚴♂️
thank you so much for this beautiful work of art. Lana and I go often to the trails, riding staright from our yard, she loves it so much!!
I love everything about this. lol I recently rescued my first dog and now that we've taken care of the heartworms, I'm hoping to get him on some trails this year.
Give me a yard and i´ll run in circles, give me a trail and i´ll run to the end!!!!
that line still my hurt!
How does this only have 1.2m views? I know it was made to sell drivetrains, but it's peerless in terms of cinematography of dogs and bikes, and it has real heart. My go-to dog video.
Beautiful, I wish my dog could run free and not get in trouble.
Sage is a hoot! He would get in trouble lol he wouldn’t follow me all the way down
My dutch shep would absolutely love to fly on the trail but as cool as this is as a concept, it's pretty frowned upon to take dogs on riding trails. Especially if it's also hiked. You might know your dogs cool but other people don't and you don't know if they could have had a traumatizing past experience. Also potential for them to cause other riders to wreck. I'm surprised shimano made this video for real. I guess dog love is more marketable $$$.
Same. She loves to run on the road with a lead but take her off lead and she'd be gone.
@@ClarkBark14 If you go trail riding with a dog when trails are empty, for example in the morning, I don't see any issue. Of course it's not ideal to take your dog there when it's full of other people. Also it depends on how well trained the dog is.
The production value in this video is amazing! Well done.
I shall always remember the Love !
For one who loves...
- dogs
- bikes
- nature....this video is a

Brilliant! Bravo. Goodness knows how would give this a thumbs down. It’s so original :)
This should be award winning no joke! The people disliked it I’m guessing you suck at mountain biking!
Someone must be chopping onions....Reminds me of my best friend Max who we said goodbye to last year, he was an epic trail dog and his favourite places were forests and mountains. He loved a new trail we hadn't been down before.
