- I present you the Evolution of COPS (police) LOGIC in MAFIA games (2002-2020). The cops logic has had an interesting evolution from Mafia (2002) to Mafia: Definitive Edition (2020). Let's see how they evolved across the games!

they just didnt bring any AI. evolution is not a proper word.
Thats why npc vs npc without any involved of player deal NO any damage to each others. Why late 00s games on consoles become press x movies. worse than Call of Duty. More like... a bitt earlier game... Starship Troopers... on PC... khm. So actually PC game start it all.
Wh40k Space Marine use better system. NPC didnt do anything if you do abandon fight scene to lurk some corners for goodies. NPC wont kill NPC. Allies didnt do many damage when you do. But still they did some damage in combat when you stay and watch.
And no. Mafia 3 use another system. In space Marine you can take cover and NPC will kill each others. In mafia 3 actually they didnt do damage. Relic dev chose stick it to your POV camera. They chose to hide scripts.
All nowadays shooter or actions that called platformers - Sony games first of - NPC do nothing. And even your shots do nothing. Its not calculate directly. It is not Call of Duty 1-2 or Starship Troopers. If you pay attention you will notice that.
Mafia 3 they said. Nah. Devs want make GTA SA plot game, bad plot game (unlike GTASA). Not Mafia. Rockstar did great game. 2ks noname studio didnt want make good game. Mafia 1+2 been even more tech and AI detailed than GTA. Mafia 3 no more Mafia - plot and gameplay.
And someone call it realistic... I already saw serious comments in Discord about realism in Mafia 3. Even GTA5 cops are better developed.
oh and what they did with Mafia 1 in DE... ppl who cant make AL and gameplay screw plot too, again. Already exist plot. Realism and logic are raritet this days.

Mafia 1's police system was the hardest to escape, like after they'd call all stations and the whole department starting coming after you you were basically fucked, unless you had a really good car they'd be faster than you, they'd have shotguns and tommy guns instead of pistols and they'd have road blocks everywhere and since the cars are heavy as fuck in this game it was hard breaking through it
they'd literally come up to you while chasing you and shoot you with a shot gun in the face
The definitive edition of mafia 1 was brutal… . Literally got swarmed with cops because I wasn’t surrendering

in DE cars are much faster, handle better and accelerate faster, so you can escape them, also I'm not sure if they shoot with Shotguns and Tommyguns in DE, I don't remember.

in mafia de it gets to that level at wanted 4 and even worse at wanted 5, and since ramming them damn near fucking kills you every time it's not very advised

I really wanna see you do a video on Cyberpunk's police. I swear, it's the worst mechanics I've ever seen ever.
There are NO police chases. They SPAWN behind you instantly and keep spawning until you leave the area. Once you're like 50m away from the area you lose them.
It's bad... very very bad.
once you go in stores they get stage 5 dementia they use excessive force everytime,no police helicopters and extremely glitched out
another impeccable job your videos are fantastic and you bring the smallest details to each explanation and impressive how much you dedicate yourself to explaining these systems a video that i would recommend you to make would be the gta sa wanted system.
You should do Watch Dogs Legion next for a police analysis.

Watch Dogs' police seems to be as bad if not even worse than Mafia 3.

I gotta say I like how far we have come with vehicles in games. From barely any sound. To adding start sounds and running sound. And even the cooldown tick lol. The little things are what amaze me the most.

12:43 Have anyone noticed the serious downgrade in case of mirror view in Mafia 3? Reflections and shadows are turned off in order to avoid lags and it looks like a poor game from 2004!

Can’t say I agree with how dumbed down it is in some parts. Investigations are great and way better than 1 & 2, but I miss tickets and an actual, robust progression of UOF rather than shooting all your problems.
They really dropped the ball on Mafia 3 altogether. It was the only Mafia game I didn’t bother to finish.

Mafia III cops at 1 star behave exactly like Driver Parallel Lines and 76 cops, they don't even pull over you but ram your car like the psycho cops from GTA 5
Parallel Lines was a damn good game in my opinion, mostly because it was fun. However, the police mechanics were absolutely garbage.

Well Mafia 3 even if nobody would agree with me on the cops but really for the most part it was actually real and the police back then in the 60s and before were racists against African American people so maybe the cops details maybe was rushed but actually at the same time it was spot on because in reality that's how the black people were treated by local authorities.

Just Albion as those are main police force. Regular police still there but they play the role as guards in some restricted areas

I don't, I just think it's lazy devs making the police more like predictable police in other games cus it's less effort. Hangar 13 only changed that for Mafia DE to reflect the original game. Mafia 3 cops are just typical game cops.
In Mafia 3 police would keep shooting you since they are racist. Not sure if this is accurate in that year but it is sure is accurate in 2020.
