Remote play has been a godsend as a parent. The ability to pick up and play for a few minutes comes around a lot more than the ability to sit in front of the TV for a longer period of time.
As a Dad of two wild toddlers I 100% agree. One thing for sure my boys won't touch my portal, too fragile of a device and it's hard to get. I'm picking mine on Friday this week...super excited.

@@rjgt87 If you have a steam deck oled the chiaki app even passes the HDR signal :). Thing looks insane playing anything with HDR. Additionally it has more settings than the stock PS app. I find the ability to use 720p and cap the bit rate really ads stability to the stream
I absolutely love mine and is exactly what I was hoping would come out eventually. It's a ps5 in my hands and is a fantastic experience so far. I don't understand the hate people have for it.

My cousin has one and i must say it's really nice. I just wish that it was the vita successor we want with it's own library. Had that been the case, i would have purchased one in a heartbeat.

This is the most convincing review I've seen so far for Portal. I'll buy this for sure once it gets a nice discount.
That being said I wish Sony tries to bring back the PSP/Vita with some classic games, just so they can know how much people love these. Sega did this to their old consoles, so hope Sony makes one as well.
They won't make one . U have to do research . Alot of game Developers aren't going to support it. Making games ... so it will be a loss
@@gregoryburkhead7813 Yeah you're correct, but I really wish there is some handheld competition for the Switch. It already has a lot of third party titles, so I don't see why Devs would avoid if Sony also made one with ARM architecture. There is Steam Deck, but it's battery life leaves a lot to be desired. So I am really expecting someone that competes with Nintendo, be it Sony or Microsoft to release an ARM handheld.

I can see this being awesome for people who are big on handheld gaming say for example people who really like playing switch handheld. It's not for me however because I always prefer to play using a TV. That's a pretty cool feature though that you can connect on somebody else's wi-fi and play your console that way

i was never really a handheld gamer but this device changed my mind. I love my PS portal its awesome. And i get zero lag too. PS5 power in your hands.

When I heard about this thing coming out - I instantly fought about you. A perfect thing for you :) Doing a "bedtime" gaming, like a switch but with a ps5 power seems perfect.

I'm getting it as a Christmas present! I bought a PS5 a couple of months ago but I haven't really played with it a lot compared to my switch. I find I can't really immerse myself into a game when I play on a big screen, I much prefer to play handheld, with headphones, lying in my bed. This device is gonna be perfect for me, it's exactly what I needed to fully enjoy my PS5.

What people don't understand is just how comfortable and fun this thing is to use.
Wipes the floor with the backbone or any other mobile streaming solution.
I have the new updated Backbone paired w/iPhone 15 Pro Max, it’s really comfortable playing for me.
And unlike the Portal, the Backbone collapses and easily fits in a pocket or bag. Plus I get all the features of the iPhone…mobile AAA games RE Village, RE 4….GTA Definitive (Netflix)…better display, better sound-speakers, Wifi6, Bluetooth, Apps, Streaming, PS Remote, Web Browser etc etc.
You get PS Remote -that’s it. Yay.

Coral island starts of really slow I would say but once you get a little further into it the gameplay loop starts to get addicting the only pain is how little energy you have and constanlty have to bring food or go to the hot spring
I love my PS5 and this would be great if it could also work like a Wii U gamepad (not as a second screen, but if you could connect directly to the console and have almost no input latency), but since it has to be online it's kinda disappointing to me. I don't really care about playing when i'm not at home, and if i want that i'd just play the Switch. I do, however, enjoy bed gaming and pretty much beaten BOTW lying down on with the Wii U gamepad (yes, i was playing it on the Wii U even when i have a Switch and had already beaten BOTW on the Switch) and it's amazing

It's so interesting how so many people have so many different experiences, I've seen a few youtubers have decent reviews/experiences including this one but then I've seen some absolutely awful ones too. I think I might pick it up if it goes on sale cause I do enjoy hand-held gaming and i'd love to play kingdom hearts in bed! :)

Those negative experiences have an issue with their home wifi setup or/and their PS5 is not wired.
That horizontal PS5 is upside down disc tray/slot is suppose to be on the bottom

@@ircha after watching this video, I couldn’t get hold of a ps portal yet, but I love my bed gaming. I got a ROG ally and it’s my new baby. I can play so many steam games I couldn’t before (I don’t have a pc to play on) and I can do it in bed. It also streams ps5, although I’m sure the portal will be cooler. But this console is so perfect for bed gaming. I love it.
I got ps portal and i really like it i got 300 mbps internet i had being playing more games when i am out side of my home and surprised work really good, i got hondread of games since ps4 so it is really nice you can play them outside

I wonder if it will suffer from stick drift. I had a duel sense replaced recently but it'd be terrible to have to replace a remote player
Some users reported that left stick stopped working going up and down, that's a bigger worry. I'm picking my unit from Best Buy this Friday. I'll keep an eye on this.
I got a PS portal for Christmas and a parent of 3 special needs children this was a must buy and I’m glad that I got this! And I’m loving it! Even got the Platinum trophy from ff1 from playing on it!

It's connecting to my PS5 miles away, indeed! That's what's so impressive. The signal goes over the internet, like a stream that's instant. It's weird I know!

This remote plays the PS5 console. But you can of course play PS4 games!
I’m a big Remote Play user. Have been using it via my iPad for years now, but cannot justify purchasing a PlayStation Portal for the price. It’s simply not worth it. Especially since there’s no Bluetooth capabilities. You can literally get the same exact experience already on other devices that are a fraction of the cost. Or you can alternatively purchase something like the Steam Deck or ROG Ally for a little bit more and have a device that can do everything the Portal can and way way more.
As someone who has dabbled with remote play in the past but never really liked it much, I can say the cheaper options don’t match the convenience you get from the Portal.
I guess you can still get the Dualsense features by clipping your phone to a PS5 controller but the combination of the screen size, controls, the battery and the ease of use in the Portal have me using Remote Play every night.
Plus, I only charge it like every 3 days. I think it’s worth the price (at least in the US).
If you’re really into remotely play I’d suggest you give it a try and just return it if you don’t like it. You might be surprised.
I know there are ways around it, but the no bluetooth thing kills me. And the only earbuds that would work for it aren't out yet I believe. I may still get one but no BT was just a dumb decision on an other wise pleasant sounding surprise.

You need an unlimited data plan for that. Other CZcamsrs have shown that it can work well on good 5G. One vid showed a guy even playing on a plane somehow
What is internet like in Norway? For me its a no my internet is average at best and most of the bandwidth is used by family on netflix etc

Although I like the idea of the portal, I already have a steam deck that I use to remote play my xbox and ps5 games, and not supporting bluetooth is severely criminal, so for me I can't justify the heafty price tag
I have pretty mediocre WiFi (I live on a university campus and our WiFi is touch and go). Has anyone tested the Portal on WiFi that isn’t the most reliable?
I’ve been playing a good bit on my old iPhone 11 Pro Max using a PS Backbone Controller with not too many issues. There is occasional lag/skipping/frame drops here and there but nothing crazy. I don’t play any online multiplayer games so I don’t think it would be an issue there.
I much prefer handheld gaming due to some visual impairments but am nervous to spend so much money on one!
If anyone has experience with it on dodgy WiFi, I’d love to get your input!!!

@@ircha That's good, but I'm still going to wait a few months to see if people are having the issue. Drift is just so annoying and if it happens to the Portal, it becomes unplayable.

Although I like this channel very much, it's confusing for me since the majority of gaming youtubers I follow were very critical of this device, and the reviews were very heavy on footage of the device not working at an acceptable way, with delays, input lag and disconnections.
Maybe this device requires a state of the art wi-fi/internet infrastructure that may not be present in most countries.
Am I the only one concerned about the PS5 being upside down? I'm pretty sure that's not recommended for the discs xD

Yeah, but look how the Vita bombed in the end (I own a Vita) -- I think this so of device makes more sense, because you don't have to buy games twice.

Why is your PS5 upside down???
It seems like Switch but PS5 performance. Now you can hide your PS5 in a closet if you still think it looks ugly. Although if you have to buy PS5 also then it's gonna be about 800$ total. That will give Nintendo a lot of breathing room with Switch 2 if they aim for the 399 price tag again. I hope that Switch 2 will be revealed 2024.
Since Launch (Day 1), my Portal has been flawless. Sharp screen, near perfect connectivity (no complaints, even on friend’s Wi-Fi 40 miles away from home PS5).
I’m even enjoying the new Pulse Explore buds! Not the best bass, but still a good crisp experience 👍👍
To add, I enjoy this more than the Steam Deck so far. Just amazing for getting back into my PS Library (Monster Hunter World Iceborne, absolutely a blast)

Depends how much it costs to manufacture. They have to recover the design costs, tooling for moulds etc. We all love cheap stuff, but they know that every PS5 owner won't buy one, so the price is based on costs to make it, plus the revenue they wish to make on it.
True. What you said. And the DualSense controller on its own is also having a higher-end price because of the functionality within it.
