This could of been a really short video. "My new investing strategy is do the exact opposite of what i tell you guys in my videos" The end
Clever comment! Insightful and well thought out and definitely not something other people have ever said before. Thanks for commenting and helping the algorithm!
Being concise doesn’t mean it can’t be well thought out. Don’t be sad that so many are on to what’s been happening. Don’t worry there are still plenty of sheep to scam.
yep, he is clown...deep pockets means can afford the losses.
In other words, buy fewer cards (less is more) and buy a card that's iconic and high grade. Got it. Thanks.
And cards you like.
Low pop inserts and refractors of well known hall of famers is the next trend! Nostalgia is what got us collectors back into the hobby, but with products having so many issues whether it be price, odds, print runs etc, it’s driving people out of the new and back to the old!
Yeah I agree. Card companies are the hobby’s worst enemies. They over price and over print everything and everyone to death driving people out of ripping wax which is one of the funnest parts of the hobby. You shouldn’t have to pull a card that has 1:1000 odds to get your money back, but with how much cards cost and how much they have expanded the checklists that’s what you have to do.
The one thing that I really don’t like is how predictable opening up a pack of cards is these days, you practically know what you’re going to get in every pack, you know where to flip through to find what card, in what order. I feel like it takes the fun and the mystery out of the magic of opening a pack of cards.
Yeah i remember opening packs of Donruss and always be surprised to get a special card.
Will def give your new show a listen. I've been following you for the last few years and I think it's obvious you've learned a lot along with many of us. Unfortunately you have a big platform and more responsibility but I think you're developing a better plan going forward for investing along with many other people.
Here is my sports card investing strategy: When the government is about to give a bunch of dumb people free money, buy a ton of hot sports cards and sell them for a profit. When the government doesn't, stop buying them and dump everything I have. It works everytime.
I'm noticing younger generation starting to discover vintage. The Facebook group vintage baseball cards has really changed the game for selling vintage for me. No eBay Fees!!!! Bottom line and it's a great community. I noticed my high end 70s graded have all risen in value
Love the insight as always guys. You’ve got to get your hands on a flawless or eminence on card Messi auto, Geoff!
Yes I’d love that!
baseball prospecting is done at the minor league level so there is a ton of opportunity there because there is only a small group of people that watch and rate players on the minor league level. Most others just follow those ratings and speculations. If you can do your own rating based on your observations...you can do very well in baseball prospecting.
baseball prospecting is much different in many ways. This is due to a majority of the time you have to sell before they accomplish anything in the majors and sometimes before they even reach the majors
How do you consider the way you collect a strategy. You own everything
You have cards worth more than most folks paid for the home they live in. It’s not a strategy it’s watching the rich is all. Hell you even got your own card. At what point dose it become greed.
He is well past that point.
Football cards has always been about quarterbacks. Never has changed. Been in it since 1980.
Jackie is great. I just can’t stand when people mention him with Jordan and Gretzky and Brady and others. Is he a Top 40 baseball player? I get the cultural aspect and appreciate it but the hobby needs to relax with Jackie GOAT type talk.
He literally did more for sports than anyone you mentioned. And he was really really good on the field too.
I'll say it before and I'll say it again; if Jackie Robinson were a white man, he wouldn't have amounted to much of anything. He would've struggled behind the likes of even AL Kaline and Harmon Killebrew. To bluntly put it, Jackie probably wouldn't have even been noticed with the incredible players of that era.
@@vintagecollector5340 If he was white he would have had a shot at playing much earlier than his age-28 season - granted, he would have missed time due to WWII but his counting stats would have been stronger. As it is now, look at his rate stats-unbelievable for a 2B: .313/.410/.477. Only one HoFer-Charlie Gehringer-can top JRoby in all three of those numbers. Jackie’s rate stats, most of which were compiled past his athletic prime and under social conditions most men would wilt from, are better than Joe Morgan, Ryne Sandberg, Frankie Frisch, etc…. But yeah, if was white he would just another guy 😂😂.
@@miketanguay7389 Even if he had started in the big leagues a few years sooner, he would've been good, but not great. I'm not saying Jackie was a bad player, Im just saying he would've struggled to have been noticed and stand out among the other players. Comparing different eras and what mightve been is all speculation. Morgan, Banks, Mays, Aaron, and about any other black player faced racial circumstances. Robinson is only remembered so highly, because he broke the MLB color barrier. The color barrier break is the only reason he landed first ballot on HOF, and even then, he barely cleared for first ballot. Without his historical color barrier break, he would've still been good, but easily overshadowed by others of that era. His stats alone would not do much for him.
@@vintagecollector5340 We’ll have to agree to disagree on this one. While I think you’re right about the first ballot, I think he’s a HoFer all the way. He was a different type of player for his era . . . he created havoc on the base paths and was an offensively productive 2B. He would have been noticed! He was Joe Morgan before Joe Morgan . . . only better. Anyway, respect your opinion, we just aren’t of the same mind on this one!
Im a new subscriber, and I love your CZcams video. From New Brunswick Canada 🇨🇦
Love the idea Geoff of doing a podcast talking strategy. This is what is really missing from a lot of the content people make - people sharing their ideas and investing strategies. No one is going to get it all right but this is what I like about you Geoff. You aren’t afraid to put yours out there. We have enough market updates, hobby news, and mail day grade reveal videos already. Oh and let’s stop all the whatnot giveaway hype everyone is doing already. Let’s get some people with some ideas!
Haaland was born in Leeds England. His parents moved back to Norway when he was about 3. Not sure if he can or wants to change his nationality though but would be amazing to see him play for England.
He can a lot of ppl do it. Mexico’s national team has people from South America but they have to be residents of Mexico in order to play. I’m pretty sure it works the same with any other country.
A few people pointed out afterward that he unfortunately will not be able to play for England no matter what because he has played too many games already for Norway.
I heard the possibility of him playing for England discussed on a podcast last year during World Cup, but that was apparently,l an untrue statement
@@t-pott4504 yeah i am pretty certain once you play for a senior national team you can't change.
Can't. He's capped to Norway.
@@collectorsfc8089currently depends on age, numbers of games, type of match, country of birth, time in new country, etc & can get a bit complicated. Rules and agreements have evolved over time. The Haaland comment was pretty uninformed😂, but FIFA is such a continual clusterf#$@, I wouldn’t put it past them to change the rules again to get him in a WC.
What’s everyone’s thoughts on bowman university football? I know college cards will never be more popular than nfl jersey cards but with NIL deals and college athletes making money now, does that bump up like a Caleb Williams? At least until he’s drafted and his regular rookie cards come out
Hello everyone. I been thinking about jumping into sports card collecting but not crazy about most sports. But I like the collecting aspect of it. I been thinking about collecting MMA UFC. Do anyone see the MMA collecting becoming a big part of card collecting world?
There is money in MMA cards but I wouldn't buy modern UFC because they stopped investing in the platform and promoting fighters after they sold to Endeavor and ESPN+ started paying them lots of money to be on their app.
In my opinion the last set of "investible" UFC rookie cards are 2012 (Ronda/Khabib) and 2013 (Conor/Amanda Nunes).
Current guys like Evar, Shavikat, Adesanya, Makachev, Volonaski, etc are good fighters but they aren't mainstream names because UFC doesn't promote them enough.
In 2023 UFC Prizm the highest selling rookie is the social media star Hasbulla because he gets a lot of promotion from the UFC.
As far as making money, the size of the collector base is too small and there is not enough financial volume to push prices up long term.
It's only the major sports (basketball, football, baseball, soccer) where you can make a lot of money with quick flips
To all these football card collecting kids, who i assume you mean ages roughly 8-13, what do you thinks going to happen once they hit high school and college? The same thing that happens to the previous generations. Joe Burrow's cards are getting thrown into the closet or down to the basement and the kids are out of the hobby.
How do feel about at Tim Duncan, Kevin Garnett, Vince Carter, Ray Allen etc. For the long term? The ones behind the goats
Helllllllllllloooooooo, banks going under!
What about Brady, Lebron, and Kobe??? I’d put them in my Mt Rushmore for sure
I am about to send cards off to be graded. 4 of them are Tom Brady rookies. A 1971 topps Nolan Ryan (that looks better than any of the psa 9's that have been graded.) I am someone with not a lot of extra money to pay for an upcharge on grading. I remember hearing that 1 of the top 4 grading companies does not charge per card value. Does anyone know which company charges per card and not the value of the card.
you can send to goldin, for auction. When your card sells, they will subtract the grade tax to your payment
I like to save my rookie cards before I grade them. Wait to see if they pan out. Totally disagree with maholmes. His trajectory is that of Brady’s. I know burrow and Lawrence are popular but maholmes is doing HOF stuff in less than a decade.
The old strategy was priceless. You can't do much worse.... if you are honest.
They won’t be.
You should hire a card investment advisor. They would really help you see the blind spots in your strategies.
That is T-Pot's job?
@@sp123 for his sake I hope not. Otherwise he should be looking for a new job.
The Jim Cramer of sports card investing!
Good video!
Geoff will you be at the National this year and how many days will you be there? I want to meet you!
Yes the whole time!
Will Reeves be there I want to meet him too! This is my first ever card show!
10,20, 30 years are too long for most of us who are in our 50’s. 10 years are my Mac, with 5 years my target long term hold. In 5 years many of the super hot basketball & hockey players will be retired. Football and hockey are great options.
10 / 20 / 30 years is too long for anyone to tie up any sort of meaningful capital in cards! there's only 1% of the population that can do this
Ultramodern players who will be worth more 10 years from now
1. Ohtani
2. Sabrina Ionescu
3. Jason Richardson (Dallas Stars)
@@sp123 Ohtani definitely. The WNBA might not even be in existence! They are not turning a profit and if the NBA ever stop subsidizing that league they are finished. Unlike other sports, when their season begins 90 percent of the collecting community could care less. Why else would college players prefer to stay In School over turning pro? Money they can make with NIL is more than what they can make in the WNBA. JRob prices along with many other hockey players will have very high prices in 10 years. In 5 years nice profits will be made. Treat the Hockey young guns like we do baseball prospects. Buy and sit on them. I have a buy and grade them strategy. When one of the hockey players get hot you need PSA 10’s in hand not sitting at PSA.
Buy nice signed vintage cards of Mickey mantle Hank Aaron willie mays etc. the pops are low and will continue to rise in value
What’s the package ?
I think the Football market in particular is propped up by flippers and speculators. Price movement is more drastic and thus liked by those type of “collectors”. Be careful buying into these young QBs, just my thoughts
The Dr Kevorkian of sports card investing advice
in the short term mahomes isnt a good nvestment because he is at the top right now
Expert advice…get the most in demand players…in the highest grade….that’s the way to go……I think that’s why the amount of subs to grading companies is crazy…i saw Zion cards pop report….17,000 psa 9,s….22,000 psa 10,s……now add all the raw cards..plus psa 1-8…..I think they took your advice….but what about supply and demand???
amazing how no one is talking about Sports cards NFTS, yes N F T s. This is where the alpha is, this is where the money will go to.
20 minutes of common sense...where is the science?
You guys think that knowing how to build a graph makes You an investor and hobby insider?
You shrunk Your window to Jordan, Robinson, Woods and Russell?? SO DO THOUSANDS OF COLLECTORS!!!
Please stop spreading stuff everybody knows🙄🙄🙄
Enjoyed the video love the content!!!! Love card collecting with my son age 11!
I have a Tony pollard collection from his rookie year they gone way up all rpas like 6 of them
Good
Basketball was the least next toe hockey ... It went Baseball , Football , Basketball, Hockey ...
Tiger has potential for off “field” stuff to negatively influence his prices
Not really. He’s already had “off course” stuff. He’s still a top 2 player of all time and arguably had top 1 influence. His legacy is solidified no matter what.
You have to see my Alphonso Davies Rookie Cards Collection!
Patrick Mahomes is the ONLY player you should be buying because he is the ONLY player that will meet or exceed the high expectations unlike so many players that have multiple super bowls priced in but may never win a super bowl. I compare buying Mahomes to buying Jordan when he was young.
What do I do if I got ripped off and this person buying sports cards.
Can't go wrong with Jackie Robinson.
I wouldn't be buying too much outside of 1960, with the exception of Jordan, Bird, Brady and Kobe
Ya don't be wasting your money buying any Magic Johnson, Wayne Gretzky, LeBron James or Connor Mcdavid cards.
But deceased rapists are good to go.
Geoff Wilson two words - Panini Treble
Any player playing now is a bad investment in the long term
I think Vini Jr will be on the same level of hype that mbappe and Haaland have. I really believe in his market, and some of this early cards are really low price
If it's not Topps chrome, it will probably continue to be cheap even if he has a great career
Didn't you go against your strategy here by trading Mantle, Ruth, Kobe, etc. for a Curry RPA /25?
messi 71 BIS is so undervalued, compare the pops..
This likely to be a waste of time and money. The problem is the majority of cards are a bad long term investment. Cards are meant to be collected , have fun, and money is a distant third. Its just a random guess on what cardboard will be popular years from now and nearly all predictions will be wrong. I wouldnt be sinking big bucks into any cards expecting to make money down the road. Its possible but not likely.
That’s what all of my uncles thought! I agree with the high printing and buying the younger guys, but I think the goats will always go up. At least I sure hope so 😂
Doubt it. Babe Ruth, Hank Aaron, Sandy Koufax, etc. will only get more valuable as time marches on. Trevor Lawrence will probably not.
@@dwiii1635 some will go up but a lot probably won't. They're already so expensive so its risky. Plus a ton of the vintage is trimmed, altered etc
Romario ,Roberto Carlos ,Buffon and more big Futbol soccer stars you need card make
Must be my lucky Saturday morning. Kids at dance class so it's quiet while I enjoy my coffee AND I get a new SCI video during that peace!!!
I get Baseball had a large part in creating the value in trading cards today, but the sport itself is declining. It's been a popular opinion amongst my age group of it being extremely boring, as it follows the basic principles of school yard kickball. Football is more complex, relevant, and most entertaining. Nothing stays the same forever. I respect baseball's history, but football is the household sport now.
Personally I think you are way off base. I know you miss the boat a lot, but your predictions on this are just off the chart crazy bad. Time will tell. Just my thoughts.
Drew Brees is so undervalued
His value is his value. The market doesn’t lie.
Bradley Beal is going to suprise everyone
Why do you have to always be buying? Has this become a huge piece of your liquid assets? Or do you just have so much money that you can't help yourself? I love your shows, but the hobby has become a monster... especially with grading involved. I've kinda lost the love of the hobby because of the gamble it has become to actually get something as the common collector..ya know. It sux, prices keep rising because big money investors with cases and cases of product being bought up...😢
No prices keep rising because people keep ripping constantly dwindling the supply.
Are you buying Ben Simmons??
I would not buy mahomes cards right now.
Buys hundreds of them at the national.
Until MLS not World Cup is main emphasis
My strategy is to buy a bunch of cards and then making videos hyping how you should buy them.
Only thing about Football is….I still won’t buy outside of QB’s. I wish other positions had real value.
Agreed. Outside of the crazy talented Justin Jefferson or jamar chase, no one besides QBs even hold value
Invest wisely by paying the lowest price on the planet - FREE!
Soccer cards will never approach football, baseball or basketball
They already do on many levels.
Hockey sells better than all three already.
You can't even get .99 cents for most top rookies in those sports.
“Never” is a really long time
definitely will!
I’ve actually made much more on soccer than any other sport
Super back soccer 🔥

Hakeem was not on the original dream team.
You are right. He played on the 1996 US Olympic team.
Lol
Heyyy
Came across this channel in the past month only to notice you’ve lost your ass in “investing”. Would I rather have $10,000 in a Jackie Robinson card or a 1/1 of some new player who will likely not make the HOF? To sum it up, by vintage. Seeing people pay thousands for a parrarel Tua, Burrow is a joke.
Lots of opinions and guesses with almost 0 actual research or even consumer surveys. If you want people to belive you up your analytics
Always important to reflect and adjust the strategy! ✌
The new strategy should be to vote Republican. Everyone who voted for FJB owes the rest of us money.
Why? Data and history shows Republicans in control of government perform far worse than Democrats.

This is hilarious 😆 🤦♂️
At this point, I think I can make more money if I do an opposite of what Geoff does...
Jim Cramer of sports cards 😭
You can't short cards or else we'd all be billionaires.
7:49 Haaland playing for England eh ? 😅😅😅 I suggest looking into soccer basics a bit more before making such a statement… 🚩🚩🚩
Like he was born in the UK. I don’t think he can play for England anymore but he could have
I was listening to a soccer podcast last year during the World Cup and they said this, so I took it on its face but you are correct. He is not eligible because he has played too many games already for his home country. Thanks for watching!
To my surprise it seems like a lot of people actually think this might be a possibility somehow. Regardless, the only problem I have is that next time im at a show im sure there will be lots of vendors pulling the “he might play for England one day” card every time a deal involving a good Haaland card happens 🫣
Next boom ! Soccer. It's going to happen!
- Prospecting in any sport is risky and is an easy way for a new "investor" to get burnt out and leave the hobby early.
- People transcending sports are great to celebrate and remember but at the end of the day, MOST people will buy, collect, and invest in cards of people that they saw play or players that are consistently in the conversation of media as the "GOATS" or favorites. The first people that come to mind. Jordan, Lebron, Curry, Brady, Tiger, Kobe, Messi, Ronaldo. These are the people in 20 years that when that 10-25-year-old comes into some real money they will look back and be interested in buying.
- Short-term investing is all about margins and following the trend/finding the trend before they arrive. (very risky but very rewarding)
- Long-term investing is all about finding the KEY hobby cards of KEY people that everyone recognizes, have the most demand, and ideally in the highest grade you can get. Then you can wait and HOPE that in the next 20 years, it appreciates. (medium risk, great upside potential)
- I think there is a happy medium that people don't consider as often. Buying what would be a long-term investment at a good margin and being open to taking the right offer that gives you profit even if it is short term. This requires patience and willingness to pass on an opportunity if the numbers don't make sense for you but the profit opportunity is very real and easier to realize because the demand for the iconic cards is always there. (Medium/low risk and high reward)
Tiger Woods will be remembered as a womanizer that played his best golf when he had 40 some odd girlfriends. That’s it.
Fools open packs
Omg Mickey Mantle isn’t a good investment?! Everyone sell! Sell! I’ll take them off your hands
