How to Master the Cross Court Net Shot

  • The Cross Court Net shot can be one of the most powerful weapons in badminton when you play singles as you can score from an offensive position but also completly turn around the really when you are under pressure.
    However only very few player practice and use that shot, so with this video I want to give you practical tips how to master that shot and encourage you to use it in your game!
    -Additional Info-----------------------------------------------------------------------
    Here you can find the videos, that i mentioned in the video:
    Grip Tutorial: • Badminton Grip Tutoria...
    Practicing technical Skills: • 6 Steps to make your B...
    Especially from a low position, the cross court net shot needs a good touch and is not easy to master. I would recommend to start from a higher position and then work your way to situations, when you are under more pressure. Like I said in the video, from low positions you also have to use your wrist and turn the grip into direction of the panhandle grip. Otherwise it will be impossible to get behind the shuttle.
    If you need some inspiration on top level I would recommend to check out some videos from Tai Tzu Ying and especially Ratchanok Intanon. Both of them can play the cross court net shot almost to perfection and also use it on a frequent basis in their game, even from almost impossible situations.

    Aloha Coach Tobias, awesome video. I like your key thought of guiding the racquet instead of hitting. I have found that so much of the touch shots executed in the area in front of and around the service line reqires this high sense of feel in the fingers. Repetition leads to mastery repeating the mantra, see shuttle, guide shuttle. Works for me. Thanks and take care.

    Always good to see your tutorials on techniques and enjoy the clear explanation. I am an intermediate level, and play socially competitive matches every week - mostly doubles. I think I want to learn more about where (middle, side, back, front) and how (drop, drive, lift) hit back from different positions, especially when under pressure. It is a tactical question that I’d love to see. Happy to clarify if needed.

    Which racket do you think is head heavy, not too head heavy and is also lightweight?
    Astrox 100zz, Astrox 99, Astrox 88d or do you recommend any racket?
    I play singles and like attacking a lot. Intermediate club player

      Thank you. Yeah I am struggling with an injury and with the lockdown here so not so easy to make any new videos but now I try to get back on track ;) From the rackets you named I tried the 100zz and the 88d. The 100 is great to attack but I had the feeling that my swing of the racket got quite long with it. The 88d is a little bit more balanced. I liked them both but in the end i sticked with my ArcSaber 11. With stringing I can really recommend to try out the Aerobite, I use it at the moment and absolutly love it!

    Hey Tobias
    I am a singles player, between beginner and intermediate
    I know all the basics and my footwork is also pretty fine.
    I am also pretty good at generating power
    I trust you with helping me with my racket selection.
    I thought I wanted a head-heavy racket but when I watched the nanoflare 800 and 800 LT video I thought why not take that.
    Actually, I am in a dilemma right now, I love attacking in singles but I hate too head heavy rackets like the Voltric z force 2, and the nanoflare 800 is quick and also good for generating power . I was wondering which racket should I get. I don't want to go for the very high-level rackets (in the head heavy section) like the astrox 100zz or astrox 99 or the astrox 88d/s. I would consider a mid-range racket
    So here are my criteria's, I want a racket that is good at generating power and also is pretty lightweight, I dont generally prefer rackets that are too bad for power and we need to add power on our own (head light rackets) but the nanoflare 800 caught my eye.
    If you have any suggestions or any comments pls do get back to me.

    • @tobiaswadenka8435
      @tobiaswadenka8435  Před 3 lety +1

      I love the ArcSaber 11 for exactly the reasons you named (powerful but not too head heavy). Have you tried it already? I also tried the NF800 and liked it a lot, defintly a good one as well!

    hey tobias, good to see another video from you. i see this type of shot (勾球)made several ways, but the technique you teach is exactly as i was taught by my main chinese coach
    a point about tactics in singles vs. doubles: in singles play this shot is required in the repertoire, since to play effectively you should ideally be able to hit any of the 4 corners in any reply. however, i do not find this shot useful in doubles, since you will have an opponent covering the net, and a good net player should be able to anticipate and kill most of these as they cross the net, or at least make a tight net reply at the other end of the net. in club play i see many players attempting this shot in doubles because they think it is cool or impressive, but they are almost always relying on a weak or sleepy opponent at the net to get the shot through. for doubles players, it is probably better to practice straightforward net shots and try to get them as tight as possible. that way you can play the net even when it is well-guarded and force the lift
    for example, in the clip you played with lcw getting the shot in against peter gade, although lcw's shot is of exceptional quality, in doubles play it could still be effectively countered by a skilled net player as it crosses the net. peter gade cannot reach it because he needs to cover the whole court and cannot guard the net like you can in doubles. for lcw's shot to be safe from a net counter in doubles, it would have to be even better quality than that. i have seen such shots but they are rare and unreliable. that is why you can watch 10 doubles matches with top players without seeing a cross net

    • @tobiaswadenka8435
      @tobiaswadenka8435  Před 3 lety
