--Overview-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Here a short overview about the different sections and topics in the video:
0:00 Introduction
0:27 The V-Grip
1:40 The Thumb Grip
2:18 The Backhand Grip
3:34 The Panhandle Grip
4:40 Grip Variations
5:32 Three Tips for a better Grip
9:03 Outro
There are so many different ways of holding the racket and you should use your racket always depending on the situation you are in. The four most common grips are:
1: The V-Grip:
The V-Grip is especially useful for shots where you want to generate a lot of power, like a smash or a clear.
2: The Thumb grip:
The Thumb Grip helps you to generat power on your backhandside with the fingers, when you only have litte time for the swing of the racket, like a drive or netkill.
3: The backhand or bevel grip:
The backhandgrip helps you to use the thumb and fingerpower, as well as forearmrotation at the same time, and it is mainly used for backhand overhand shots and backhanddefence in doubles.
4: The Panhandle Grip:
Like the thumb grip on the backhandside, the panhandle grip is good for creating power with a short swing but on the forehandside.

Just the video I was looking for the grip selection. Thank you.
Please create more videos on grip usage while power smash and separate video on defense against smashes.
It's a very good tutorial video for the badminton learners who are really confused about the grip selection on their games. Thanks for gifting us such a wonderful tutorial video
This video gave me the best guidance and rectify my mistakes which I was doing in the past. Now the game has improved a lot.....Thanks Genius !
Really helpful. Been trying to up my game recently (Albeit casual play with intermediate to advanced level friends). I also really hate losing, so this was definitely a good review!
Love your videos, been checking out a few and they've all been easy to understand!
Thanks alot!
Tobias, this is the best video on grips I have ever come across. Most people tell only about V grip and Thumb grip. I have seen many players try using Thumb grip for backhand clear which turns into a drop or not using pan handle grip as required in some cases coz of which shuttle goes outside the court. Thanks for this amazing video, brother.
Thank you- during the pandemic I recaptured my love for badminton as a means of fitness, weight reduction and “social” distancing all in one. Thanks for the videos!!’
With BWF TV and Victors channel
The best tutorial channel for me good job keep posting video like this to help many people over the world 💪🏽
Out 1000 channels on YT I finally knew how V grip generates power. Thanks man .. appreciate it.
IT was so easy to understand......This is the best badminton channel.
Great! The best explanation and demo I've ever seen.
Your tutorials are always awesome.
This video is very complete and clear, thankyou
Thank you so much for this. I had seen lots of videos about grips and this video alone more or less beats all of them. Such complete elaboration.
Ps. Watching a lot your vids. You are a great coach.
Thank you so much for your awesome feedback!
again, excellent tutorial! It's so easy to take this kind of information for granted, but loosening your grip and shoulders in preparation is so fundamental to reaction it's not even funny.
Also, pointing small things like relax and tighten just before impact are very useful tips. I've honestly never used the panhandle grip or the front/back in-between grip. I reckon those are slightly more advanced grips. I still find myself too often losing grip on the handle when switching FH and BH.
Wow, awesome. Very clear instructions
thanks for explaining about all important grips.
It was a great help, really genuine information. Thank you for these amazing videos. Keep up the amazing work.❤️❤️
Thank you bro this video helps me a lot in improving my game
I have been playing over 6 months...i have only heared was there’s only 1 grip for playing all kind of shots.....& finally i got this video......i had a lot of problem before but now its crystal clear
Very nice video with great editing and production quality like always yet, I just have one remark it would be helpful to “zoom in” on where your fingers are on the racket to see exact finger placement from all angles for the different grips.
This is what i need to see to make my badminton play enhances.. thk u
Best tutorial in badminton thanks for your explanation (I have seen a lot of tutorial)
Thank you so much! This is amazing!
Thank you very much Tobais. I am a college student in India, and I love badminton. This video of yours has corrected my forehand, and I cannot express in words how good it feels to me, because I'm so passionate about badminton.
I also saw your smash and clear video, and I have to say that your channel is by far the best CZcams badminton channel. The patience with which you explain, the clarity, the details and the step-by-step explanation feel like an elder brother teaching the game.
Can't thank you enough. Looking forward to more of your videos, and wishing the best for you.....
Thank you, your words mean a lot to me 😊 really happy that I could help, and let me know if you have any specific wishes for future content 😉👍 all the best wishes from 🇩🇪

Thank you so much 🙏🏻 very simple explanation 👌🏼
My wife dragged me to badminton training a few times to try it out and now I'm hooked an want to make sure I learn some technique from the beginning. At the training, there is only playing, no technique drills. Great videos to learn basic technique!
Thanks, great to hear that =)
Answered all my queries even without asking.. thank you
Hey brother.. Really helpful video 😍😍😍
Thank you for this video, it's very usefull for me. Good job !!
Excellent tips!
Excellent video Tobias!
I learned somethin , thank you very much ! :)
Really clear explanation on the different grip, perfect for beginner. Its is one of the best i have seen so far on youtube. Just one thing i think u forget to mention: for forehand clear/smash, the neutral grip shld be adjusted ever so slightly so that the racket head hits the shuttle squarely, else the shots will end up to have some slices in them. Coach lee jae bok also talked about this in one of his video. Keep up the good work, will definitely share your video to my friends who are just getting into badminton.
Yes, you got it right.
Man, u r just awesome, ur videos are really helpful for me
Gracias por tus videos...muy buenos para mejorar y para enseñar
Another excellent tutorial....thx so much!
You are incredible and I admire and share your great passion in badminton ❤❤👍👍🙏🙏👏👏👏
Best grip tutorial I've seen so far!
Really clear, great job!
Great video, great advices!
Badminton used to be hard because I didnt know how grip but now I do thank you
Great video clip including slow motion which I can follow easier. Thanks so much.
I have watched a lot badminton coaching videos throughout the years and I must say your videos are simply the best! I wish I would have seen your videos years ago because a lot of crucial things are not mentioned by the other coaches and I had to figure them out myself. Many talented players and coaches naturally acquire the correct techniques simply by training a lot and they actually don‘t know why their shots are so powerful and precise. Being a German probably helps you in approaching the game systematically and scientifically ;) I wish you a successful coaching career!
Thank you very much! I think you are right that a good technique can come natural especially for motorically gifted players, but knowing how the movements work is in my eyes very important for coaches and a lot of players can also benefit from it. Still it is important to see the whole picture and not always make things to complicated or go into details when it is not nescessary. So there i think "being german" can also be a challenge but i try to find the balance ;)
@@tobiaswadenka8435 I am not sure about the other players but I personally like everything explained to me thoroughly:) I only have time to play once a week. That's why I always try to learn more about the game offline to further progress. In fact, I managed to improve my game a lot compared to other players who play much more regularly. Although you mentioned in this video that one should have a loose grip and only tighten it at the last moment, you did not explain why. I might be wrong but here how I see it. The force generated by the racket is largely determined by the racket head speed (F=m*v^2). By tightening the grip at the very last moment, you inject more speed to the racket head. Combined with the pronation of the forearm one can generate much more power than a big racket swing alone. Moreover, the angle when the racket contacts the shuttle also affects the force. That's why one has to change the backhand grip almost to a panhandle grip when the shuttle is much far behind, just to keep the angle right. Hopefully I am not talking bullshit and I am happy if you can correct me :) Viele Grüße aus Wien.
Thank you very much for covering
This was really what i was searching for. Yes i am a beginner...

It’s not just for beginners believe me it’s really helpful for an expert. I have been playing badminton for over forty yrs now and I learnt a healthy amount dear friend.
sonia birdi Many years of experience doesn’t automatically make you an expert. I know guys who are playing for many years and they still suck.

Thank you for this excellent badminton grip tutorial! I was wondering if you could consider creating a new CZcams video focused on workouts specifically designed to enhance the power of badminton shots. Specially smash and backhand shot . I believe your expertise would make for an excellent resource.
Thank once again, Tobias!!!
Thank you for your kind words! I defintely want to share some more work outs and follow alongs in the future!

Thank you 😊
Great great video tutorial.
Love it !
Suprb.. it was very helpful for beginner players...👍
Excellent Video
Superb brother
I keep losing to my friend and I hope this channel will help me. So far I have notice that I use only panhandle grip and thumb grip . I think I have used thumb grip somewhat correctly, but not with good
technique. I have used panhandle grip pretty much everything else and I didn't know the difference so thank you for the tips!
Kotkan joulupukki use v grip to hit clear shots. V grip if used correctly generates lot of power. You can send from baseline to base line.
You have to hold racquet initially loose and slightly tighten it just before hitting bird. You have to hit bird at the highest point.
For smash also you need to use v grip.
It’s not easy to understand and implement this grip initially. But when practice you will get it.
@italkcrab True
Valuable lesson
Very well explained.. Would be great if you can also make a video on exercises that would improve the arm power and pace of changing the grips..
Once again Thanks a lot for the explanation..
You are welcome :) Great that the video did help! I keep your wishes for armpower and grip change in mind for future videos.
good explanation. Tq bro
Your videos are very useful. Kindly put some videos on practice of badminton alone in home
Informative 😊
best badminton tutorial
Your teaching is great
Great Video - Thank you Tobias. Please can you record a few videos for Serves?
I will make some tutorials on doubles, as well as service situation soon ;)
Great tutorial. Please make more videos
Thank you. I am workin on it ;)
Thank you.
Thanks for the info . U make my problem solve . Haha . God bless you 👍
Thanks man❤️
Great video, would like to hear more about changing grips :)
Also if you're doing the forehand, backhand exercise in the forehand it's more about the panhandle instead of the v grip right? Because i feel like the v grip is not too optimal for drives and hitting in front and i'm kinda struggling to switch and differentiate between v-grip and panhandle, they feel really similar.
Yes exactly. When you hit in front of you panhandle or thumb grip are way better than V-Grip
Very good video
I have really enjoyed the video.A very useful one.Btw which is that bat with you?
I use the Yonex ArcSaber 11
I understand know, thank you
Very nice tutorial.
Can you make clear the following?
When do we use index finger above thumb?
When the grip is loose your index finger shoul be above the thumb. As soon as you really tighten the grip (for example when you want to hit with power) than the index finger moves under the thumb
plsss do some video about how to change fast on grips
Very good ☺️ ☺️
Love you tobi 😍
A very nice video to learn the grip basics.the subtitles seems to block the view of the grip while explaining.suggest lowering the subtitles a bit so that we are able to see the different grips explained here.
Unfortunately i cannot adjust the youtube subtitles but you can switch them off
Great video! Do I have to flip racket 180 degrees when switching from V grip to thump grip? Thanks
Hello, I was always wondering how thick should badminton grip be should I go thin or should I go thick grip? Thank in advance. Love your channel
It depends a lot on the size of your hand. As a guidline I would say if you hold the racketgrip tight the tip of your middlefinger should slightly touch the inside of your hand. A lot of players tend to have a grip that is too thick and that makes it difficult to quickly change the grip and and it is also harder to feel the different edges with the hand. They help to get a better feeling for your grip position
this some good shit man
Thank you! 🤔
