  • so bloating is trending. which some would say is a good thing. i beg to differ. Try ARMRA here: www.tryarmra.com/STEPHANIE15 and use code: STEPHANIE15 for 15% off your first order! bloating is extremely common and certainly nothing to be embarrassed or ashamed of, but normal it is not. bloating, whilst once in a while it can be nothing more than an uncomfortable feeling, chronic or excessive bloating can actually be a sign of something much more serious that needs to be checked by your healthcare provider. normalising bloating, whilst is admirable in this day and age of ridiculous beauty standards and #bodygoals is not the way to go. lets normalise bellies of all shapes and sizes yes, this is sorely needed, but that doesn't mean lets normalise chronic bloating. bloating is bloody uncomfortable. and you shouldn't have to live with it! considering it's usually a symptom of something deeper, getting to the bottom of the bloating is important, and treating it like a #relatable social media trend is not necessarily a good thing, no matter how well meaning.

I have been dealing with bloating on and off for my whole life. I've tried various diets (cancellation diets, keto, vegan, mediterranean, etc) and could never figure it out. I spent thousands of dollars (of my own money out of pocket, American healthcare system lol) getting tonnnnnnns of tests done to try and see what was going on. I even had to take my own stool sample during COVID. Nothing helped and my meals were so painful that I knew I couldn't eat during the day or I would be in so much bloated, burning pain that I couldn't even work, so I'd only eat in the afternoon and just spend hours crying in bed and waiting to fall asleep.
I finally got insurance early this year and was able to see a dietitian. She looked at where I was raised and my symptoms and was able to determine that I had SIBO, most likely from being raised near SuperFund sites as a child and never developing good gut flora. We did testing to confirm this, and I've been on a SIBO safe diet to repair my gut, which has been so fantastic I could cry. I finally can eat without fear of being in writing pain. I am finally digesting nutrients!!!
Bloating is horrible and I really hate the "all hot girls have IBS" trend...girl, if you are displaying IBS symptoms, go to a dietician or nutritionist!! You deserve a pain-free life!!

I used to get painful bloating. I would look significantly pregnant and sometimes my waist would increase by 5 or more inches in a matter of an hour. I finally did a blood test and found out I’m intolerance to sesame and all types of dairy. I quit both cold turkey over 6 months ago and haven’t had an incident since. I also started probiotics and have never felt better! I had no idea I was chronically sick for at least a decade if not longer.

I think it's important to note that there's a difference between bloating and literally just relaxing your abdomen/having food in your belly. Growing up, I thought you were supposed to have a washboard flat stomach 24/7... even when not flexing or engaging your abdominal muscles. I didn't know that when you just relax your muscles, your belly distends (even more after you start eating in the morning). Yes, chronic bloating isn't normal, but not having a super flat, nonexistent tummy is super normal, too - even for very fit people with lower body fat. 🌸

Can we remember that "bloating" is not a medical term? It's either oedema (water retention), flatulence (gas), constipation, or a combination of all three. These three symptoms can be caused by gynecological issues (endometriosis, ovarian cysts, etc), gastrointestinal issues (gut dysbiosis, intestinal bacterial infections, intestinal parasites, autoimmune conditions e.g. Crohns/IBS, etc) or just poor diet or insufficient water intake. That means these symptoms are on a spectrum of NORMAL to NOT NORMAL depending on the cause, yet it will look the same from the outside.

So glad someone addressed this! I'm currently studying to be a nutrition coach and the only time in my life where I bloated daily like the girls in the pictures is when I was struggling with my relationship with food. I barely ate anything, limited myself to very few food choices and only let myself eat at certain times. After one meal, maybe 200 calories, I would look severely bloated like those pictures. My pants would no longer fit. it trigged acid reflux, and I overall felt awful. Now that I eat enough calories and am incorporating nutrient-dense foods that personally agree with my body, I rarely bloat at all. I am still quite petite with a narrow bone structure, my waist is a size 23 in most pants, and due to being thin, you can tell by the end of the day that I have eaten. It is not bloating and nor does my stomach change drastically at all, but it is naturally fuller by the end of the day. It is normal for your stomach to change by the end of the day, but to outsiders it will likely barely be noticeable if you have a healthy gut. The only time I bloat now is when I get an extremely poor night of sleep, if I ever throw off my meal times drastically, or if I eat something that doesn't agree with me (for example dairy, as I'm lactose Intolerant, or the time I got food poisoning and my belly immediately ballooned. I was bloated for about a week as my gut recovered).
So long story short, you should not bloat like this everyday! It goes much deeper than what you can see on the outside, it is important to take care of your gastrointestinal tract.as it plays into other factors of your being such as your metabolism, health of your cells and the quality of their mitochondria thus affecting your energy, and also your immune system. Please see a doctor if you believe it's something severe or even just a nutrition coach to learn what healthy lifestyle choices can help you. You are not meant to be pain everyday. If you're attempting to lose weight or maintain weight that results in you experiencing what is mentioned in the video, please get assistance. It is not worth being skinny, having a low body fat %, or visible abs if these symptoms occur, we should not be promoting it. If anything they're revealing how dangerous unrealistic some body standards can be.

The female calves will have the same fate as their mothers, and the boys will be slaughtered. When products like this become popular and mass marketed it can never be done ethically, because the demand is too great. Damn Stephanie I‘d really like to give this video a thumbs up because this is an important topic. I can’t, though. Colostrum is the milk that is meant for the newborn. As empathic people and a woman in particular, we shouldn’t advocate for stealing infant‘s food that is produced for them by their mothers.
I feel like the distinction between milk and colostrum here is making me nauseous. It’s weird enough we‘re drinking another species‘ milk beyond toddler age, let’s not add colostrum specifically to our diets.
For anybody who doesn’t know: Usually, animals are lactose intolerant when adult. That includes humans. Us being able to digest lactose as adults is a genetic mutation. That doesn’t mean it’s bad, I just wanted to point out that per default, we‘re lactose intolerant and the only species that takes another species‘ milk MEANT FOR THEIR BABIES.
Well researched information about the production of milk and meat etc can be found in the amazing book „Eating Animals“ by US author Jonathan Safran Foer. He interviewed slaughterhouse employers and employees, farmers, activists and researchers and looked into our history of keeping animals for their products.

Wether someone’s bloating is normal or not I think what we all want ultimately is to not feel ashamed or embarrassed when we get bloated. I’m 24 weeks pregnant and it’s been so refreshing to not have to worry about needing to hide the shape of my belly because it’s obvious I’m pregnant, but this shouldn’t be the case.
I’m already dreading the bloat that is sure to come immediately after giving birth and once again feeling the need to live in oversized t shirts to hide it. Also random but are you Scottish? I always assumed you were Australian 🥲

If you’re confused here’s the point: normal bloating is just generally your belly growing temporarily for like a couple hours after a good meal because your body is trying to fit all the food in one place and digest it all. THAT is normal. However what’s not normal and should be looked at is very intense, uncomfortable, painful bloating after a normal meal. Like your belly immediately blowing up after a normal meal and not really going away and is very uncomfortable. Bloating is not meant to be painful it’s meant to make you feel full and satisfied. And of course menstruation is a completely different thing xx

Thank you Stephanie! - as a woman who went undiagnosed with celiac's disease for many years, I really appreciate this. I've learned to accept that I'm prone to bloating a holding a little fat there, but it's nothing on what I was like before being put on a gluten free diet. I think learning to listen to our bodies is an important part of learning to love our bodies. If we see bloating as a "normal" body image flaw rather than as a health warning, then we miss an opportunity to take proper care of ourselves. I think the process of loving our bodies is just as much about appreciating the incredible survival systems they have as it is about letting go of indoctrination about visual "flaws". I think it's learning how our own bodies speak to us, so that we can live longer and fuller lives. It's a whole other way of thinking and I'm finding hard to shift to that while living in a looks-based society, but I'm trying. Thanks for your insightful and encouraging video.

What Steph was trying to highlight is that there’s a difference between your stomach being relaxed and having eaten and severe bloating. When influencers call it bloating everytime their belly isn’t perfect skinny washboard abs, they are normalizing something they shouldn’t. Does that make sense?

being bloated once and awhile on a period is normal (although if it is painful you should still see a doctor periods should not be debilitating)
Chronic bloating/distention is 100% sign of underlying illness, lets not get delusional about it.

    • @_oaktree_
      @_oaktree_ Před měsícem

What she was actually saying was that bloating is not the same as just not having a flat stomach all the time. Actual bloating is very uncomfortable, even painful. You’re not able to suck your stomach in at all because of the gas in your intestines. It’s an entirely different thing. Yes, actual bloating happens to everyone once in a while, but it’s not normal and fine for it to happen frequently and could be a sign that something’s wrong if it happens frequently. So normalizing “bloating” that isn’t actually bloating could lead some people to not get help to improve their health. What *is* normal, though, is your stomach not being at its flattest after you eat and drink. That is normal. It just isn’t bloating.

I am ALWAYS BLOATED. No matter what I eat or drink, it will bloat me. I assume that it’s some sort of food sensitivity, because I eat very well, and get lots of fiber. My doctor told me that in order for them to find out what’s wrong with me, I would have to long every single thing I ate for multiple weeks, then every few hours log how I feel. But this is WAYYYYY harder than it sounds… especially for someone who can’t remember where she put her phone 2 seconds ago 😅.

Wise words as always. Bloating is really uncomfortable, often downright painful, and so frustrating - I can start the day a size 16 and end as a 20 (around the middle). So everything I buy, I have to look at from the point of: will this cut into my middle and cause excruciating pain, or will have enough stretch to get me through the day/evening? Been to a gastroenterologist, had all the checks, colonoscopy, the allergy tests, you name it - nothing other than IBS. I'd love a flat stomach but honestly I'd settle for one that just doesn't go up and down all the time like a time lapse loop of bread rising.
