Catching Leach, Swan frames him for dealing drugs, which lands him in prison. After Leach breaks out and again attempts to sabotage Swan's empire, an accident crushes his face. Leach then dons a costume and becomes the Phantom, intent on ruining Swan while saving singer Phoenix (Jessica Harper) from a terrible fate.

This one was certainly very offbeat and interesting. I particularly love that LOGO at 4:49. Most hacks would just use another skull there. But somebody here came up with another image to iilustrate ''Death"' for a change, lmao!
One of the best musicals that never really gets its due! But it was a hit in Winnipeg for some reason when it was released. In (I Think) 2004 and 2007 they had Phantompalooza there where they had a screening of the movie and some of the cast and production people for a Q&A and Harper and Williams Sang Songs from the movie. You can find some clips on youtube.
The only thing about the movie is I think they should have had was more of a relationship between Phoenix and Winslow.
It's also one of the FEW good horror COMEDIES I find. One that manages to actually be FUNNY without undermining the horror element.
@@IanFindly-iv1nl Garret Graham as "Beef" is particularly hilarious.
Awesome video! I adore this movie. It's got the story of "Phantom" with other Gothic literature references mixed in. It's got great music. It's got the theme of reincarnated soulmates meeting again, which is one of my favorite romance tropes. And all this is done in wonderful, wacky '70sness. It's a fantastic film.
All that said, as much as I love the original, I, too, would also like to see a remake. There's so much it could say about the modern entertainment industry, ESPECIALLY on how tech bros are so eager to replace human artists with A.I. Maybe, instead of souls being bound to single videotapes, signing the Devil's contract creates an A.I. version of the artist that stays forever young, beautiful, and able-bodied while the human artist ages and yet has to keep creating work for their A.I. self. But it gets to a point where one morning, the artist wakes up and sees a piece "they" made has gone viral and they're like, "What? I didn't make that."
"Of course not," the Swan character would say, pointing to the artist's A.I. self, "They did. Now you can literally create work in your sleep. Isn't that wonderful?"
There's so much amazing potential for a remake. If one is done, for the love of the gods, get Paul Williams to do the music and/or play Swan again. And have the protagonists be the reincarnations of Winslow and Phoenix to tie into the original film's gorgeous theme of old soul lovers finding each other again.
Sorry for the long post; I could talk about this movie all day. Great reaction, guys! You're awesome!
I don’t know why the hell it took me this long to see this, but bless you both for doing a reaction to this film. It’s one of my absolute favorites and it’s exceptionally rare for anyone to react/review to it. 💜
The whole "sleep your way into showbusiness" thing in Act One brings to mind two things; Phil Spectre and the Quiet On the Set scandal with Nickelodeon.
I will always like and subscribe to someone that does Phantom of the Paradise Fist pump respect from Australia
Open Graves - An international group of young surfers in Spain come into possession of an ancient artifact - Mamba - an old board game made from the skin and bones of a witch executed during the Spanish Inquisition. At a drunken party one night, they casually decide to play. It’s all fun and games until they find out that curses last forever - and death is the ultimate undertow.
2009. Stars: Mike Vogel, Eliza Dushku, Iman Nazemz
The contract might be unbreakable.
Got to love Jessica Harper.
I saw this at the Drive in when I was a kid and didn't understand one bit of it. Same with The Last House on the Left.
Here's a fun fact before they where able to make this movie. They had to deal with some legal issues when it came to this movie. One of them was in regards to the name it went through a few name changes. Because the owner of the rights to The Phantom Of The Opera. Keep saying that they where copying that movies name that one was settled by paying them off. There was others as well basically it was legal hell. Then the name Swan Records was not the original name in the original script or screenplay. But because of all that time dealing with that other legal stuff to make the movie. Someone in real life opened a real record studio with the same name as. In the original script or screenplay so they changed it last minute to Swan records. You can see the original logo that they where going to use in the movie. Its the one with the black background with a bird on it. Basically they mist those ones when they were putting the new Swan ones on things.
Your a perfect match as friends and a couple I love watch y'all's channel 😇🤘
For YEARS Brian De Palma and Songwriter 🦢Paul "Swan" Williams wanted to Develop a STAGE musical version. Unfortunately they never went through with it. 🤨
"A-ny-thing?" (Also one of my favorite lines!)
"Swan Song" belonged to Led Zepplin, so they had to hide the logo and name in every shot.
Dave Grohl - Foo Fighters!
By the number of times I've seen this film, I guess it must be my favorite, and I still enjoy it, even after this long. (I saw it on its original release, just after In graduated high school.)
I, however, have aged a bit.
I just watched the and I love watching people's reactions to certain horror movies to see what their opinions are.
Nice to see you guys again. Just to let you know that I'm sick with a covid-19 and I have been staying home for a week, but I'll probably be getting better next week. So let's just enjoy the movie for now because I'd never seen this movie before.
Here’s some weird trivia concerning this movie, which I’m sure someone else must have left in the comment section:Guess who the set decorator for this movie was?None other than Sissy Spacek
She also auditioned for the role of Phoenix before Jessica Harper. Apparently, she didn't do a good job and ruined a day's worth of shooting.
@@robertmcghintheorca49 here’s something else about Sissy Spacek, although not at all relevant to this topic:she was David Cronenbergs’ first choice to play the lead in his film Rabid.Someone,I think maybe the producers of that movie, wanted to give Marilyn Chambers a chance to break out of porn, however,so she got the part instead.
@@pathatfield2543 Also, she and the late great Carrie Fisher have repeatedly debunked that urban legend that that they swapped roles in "Carrie" and "Star Wars: A New Hope".

You swear you've heard it before
As it slowly rambles on and on and
No need in bringin' 'em back
'Cause they're never really gone
Just an old-fashioned love song
